What really gets me most about this song is that Kendrick KNEW every single person who'd been following the beef would be tuning in - this is THE song to listen to on the album, the one everyone's thinking about, purely because of the beef. Look at other peoples' reactions; a lot of them say something like "oh, here it comes, this is what we've been waiting for" once they get to this one - And what does he do with that opportunity? Where does he direct the eyes of the world? He talks about his roots. He talks about struggle. He connects with the old heads who've been with him forever, and the new people that only started listening because of the beef. "This is where I'm from, this is what I've gone through, and these are the people who've had my back every step of the way." He shifts the spotlight away from drake, away from current events, and turns it toward his day ones, his team, giving them the recognition and respect they deserve. It's such an amazing move that I can't help but think it was done intentionally.

Kendrick just keeps giving us master classes. He’s a good guy. I pray God covers him. There are a lot of egos in the industry that are jealous of his creative genius.

that's such a fine reflection of his intrinsic character. you can tell what really matters to people depending on what they choose to uplift with their voice and influence. i think it speaks volumes on kendrick's mindset for him to stay on task despite how many of his own colleagues disrespected him out of envy, pride or vanity. my respect for him has grown exponentially ever since gnx dropped, and it was already pretty high before the beef peaked. this isn't even about the beef anymore, it's about culture and youth fighting back against bad cycles propagated by the industry. i hope everyone's paying attention to these little details, especially newer fans / listeners who don't really know his older work. i wasn't a hardcore fan by any means (in the past) but now i'm just so in awe of him. i don't even have the words to explain. yeah, he's still making moves that guarantee he'll stay on top as far as his public image goes, except that's not the point because all of those moves come from raw talent and authenticity. wishing the best for k-dot, his family and friends.

Truthfully, it would have stung more if he went to the heart part 7, leaving that weak ass track to forever be a step in a new listeners "The Heart" journey.

IMO this song was the biggest shot on the album against drake. He could have made this part of the general track list but giving it that name is him making a direct contrast with drakes version. This is a song of unity, respect, and acknowledgement of his need to have been helped by others to get where he is. He also leans heavily on how little he had growing up and how small of a chance he actually had of making it. Contrast these with everything he’s said about drake

@espada7997 yeah because he raps on good beats with in your face bars, don't have to do any work to understand, much easier to get into, these days everything has to be simple or it'll be ignored that's why Kendrick had to lower his standards bare wise in Not Like Us so people can get it instead of 6:16 with the divinity bars and wisdom, and Euphoria littered with entendre.

"jack in the box" = jack antonoff in the producer box in the studio

@thegreenrose147 i looked at the sample for SWV song and it says it is the sample from of it don't turn you on (then leave it alone). But when I heard their song I heard Michael's song sped up a little. That is my take and of it was part of the sample, then yes it is another layer
