I was saying to a friend how I thought the "not real women" bar was about how Drake is too comfortable around underage girls, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed.
i dont think that specific line is about that, i dont see kendrick calling underage girls "the bitches you fuck" as he said, i think is just about them having just as little character as drake himself
Kinda sad that Kendrick’s biggest points of contention are the fact that Drake isn’t black enough and makes a comment about Drake being gay. Pretty weak shit.
When he went on that whole “raising a son…” bar, he literally the lists different things fathers do, so he was literally teaching him how to be a dad 😭
Wakin' him up Then tell him to pray Then givin' him tools to walk through life like day by day Teachin' him morals, integrity, discipline, listen, man, Speakin' the truth and consider what God's considerin'
Kendrick dropped on April 30th which is the Day of the Child. Then he titled the song “Euphoria” alluding to Drake being a producer on the TV show that heavily depicts teen sexualization. This is Kendrick saying Drake likes children (teenagers) and then he later calls Drake a child not knowing how to act like a man. There's layers and levels to this diss title so Kendrick is up.
I am a 52 year old black woman that was sleeping for the last 20 years on this wonder of Kendrick Lamar. He has me woke and invested. Thanks Knox for helping me understand the entendres; let alone doubles, triples. I have just become a new subscriber. You, Knox, are studying the hip hop culture like you’re getting a PhD. 😂. Thank you, because I can tell it’s a true appreciation.
I ate at a restaurant this evening. The waiter came and asked how i was doing and i replied “drake” the waiter kindly handed me my check and cleared my table. She knew i was finished
That backwards clip in the very beginning is Richard Pryor saying 'Everything they say about me is true' when he was playing the Wizard of Oz in 'The Wiz'. You can take it further with him implying that Drake is a man hiding behind the curtain. The Wizard of Oz wanted everyone to think he was big and powerful but he wasn't. Nastyyyyyyyyy
I definitely think he was referring to drake like the man behind the curtain because in drakes buried alive interlude it sounds like that’s how Kendrick originally thought of him
Black is black regardless of how you walk or talk. That said, his Jewish half does allow him access to things most might not have access to. But if you think "the culture" is anything more than the most elaborate bs act on earth, you don't know black people at all. I'm black so I can call it like it is. It's always an act. It's an act that was taught to us while our parents were at work and we were at home with the TV on watching bet and MTV. The entire thing is an act.
As a Southern ADOS black American, I believe it's okay for me to think that a Jewish Canadian actor is wearing my black American culture like clothes and taking it off when he gets home. Drake is not J Cole! When it comes to my culture, I can scrutinize who is wearing my culture as an act. Period! His ghost writers have black culture, though, but not him. Kendrick made that so very clear. Lil Wayne told him to "Keep it Canadian," yet here we are.
@@J-Hue Black is not Black because Black refers to both a race and an ethnicity. KDot is saying that Drake is pretending that he is Black (ethnicity). Which is true, Drake wears American Blackness (ethnicity) like a costume.
@@bishop2410There are fully black artists who do the same though so are they just not Black at all? I get what you’re saying about him acting when it’s convenient for him but there is so many sellouts around hollywood who emulate black culture for profit when they don’t show out for the community elsewhere.
What I really like is that he didn’t just call him white. He pointed out the REAL issue a lot of folks have with him, which is how his insecurities about his own identity has made him appear fake and cringey. Him being mixed isn’t the issue. Him not being comfortable in his identity is.
Facts. I know I'm going to get a lot of hate from drake stans unpopular opinion. I think Drake lost against Meek, but he was more popular. Meek said a lot of what Kendrick said in this diss back then
*"Emperor Kendrick Lamar, Third of His Kind, Most and Biggest of The Pantheon of Lyricists, Heir to the Line of the Tupac of The Westerly Coast, Most Revered On This Black Planet of Sound, Unifier of Blacks, Slayer of DRAKEs" B1 from a Carib cousin
Drake is actually a producer in the tv show euphoria. it's another reference to his involvement with visual arts, and besides that, the show has received a lot of criticism about how it portrays minors...
Bro dont apologize for pausing! Thats literally why im here. if any of us wanted to listen to the straight up song, wed do exactly that. Keep breaking everything down brother!
Yeah, i came here exactly because i follow absolutely nothing about the rap world and i rarely get the references, his breakdown is the entire reason I'm here
I teach literature at college and I will be assigning this video to my students to show them what analysis should do. Great work animated by love for this.
They call me Professor Knox for a reason. I know I’m not a real teacher and respect for you and your profession (most important job in the world imo). Just doing my best to educate and help others
It’s the reason why we come to Knox Hill. I didn’t catch half the bars Kendrick was spitting, and now I listen to it with so much more appreciation and I thought the song was crazy the first time I heard it
Nobody’s catching the “love em to death, and in 8 bars I’ll explain that phrase” and then on the 8th bar he says the melly line. Nobody can touch this man
Also cops confirm there were 8 bullet holes along the right side of the vehicle in the shooting Kendrick said he'll explain in the next 8 bars alluding to the 8 bullet holes Drake wanted the triples and quadruples. He got it 😂
When Kendrick Said “I love them to death, in eight bars I’ll explain that phrase.” If you notice that EIGHT bars later he mentions YNW Melly. Melly killed 2 of his friends in the backseat of his car. When I realized it it was crazy!
For those who aren’t black , to give further context . There’s a large segment of black people that take issue with Drake wearing urban black American culture like a costume when it’s convenient essentially. That’s what Kendrick is speaking to
New Ho King is a Chinese Resturant on Spadina Avenue in Toronto. New Ho King is ALSO where a Toronto rapper named Sizzlac filmed his last music video before being shot and killed. Sizzlac got shot and killed days after dropping a diss record titled “Realest in the 6”, and in the music video for the record he’s at New Ho King. Sizzlac is also rumored to be one of the people that robbed Drake at gunpoint in 2009 Drake recently has aligned himself with another Toronto rapper named Pressa, who is apart of the Driftwood CRIPS gang. The Driftwood Crips and Sizzlacs gang have had a long rivalry. So, when Kendrick says that he’s at New Ho King with a blammy and that he can do it on camera. He’s saying that unlike Sizzlac, he’s in Drakes city (Toronto) at New Ho King with a gun and that he’s ready to do it on camera.
@chief500 - There's a video of teenage Drake on a dating show calling Toronto street lingo ignorant. Is that what someone from Toronto's black culture would say? - There's a video of Drake saying the N- word with the hard R. - There's a recent video of him talking about his "blackest friends". No one from the culture says things like that.
“Oh you thought the money, the power, the fame would make you go away” is a hard line. Drake trying to hide his true self behind money, power and fame.
Knox. Bro when I tell you NOBODY is catching these references the way you are. It is ridiculous!!! I just love how locked in you are with your reactions. And I love it for the culture. You’re turning young casual hip hop fans into bar aficionados. Keep doing what you doing man. We need this. Hip Hop needs this 🙏🏿
The backwards line at the beginning is Richard Pryor as the wizard of OZ from the film THE WIZ…it’s the part when they expose the wizard as a fake and he breaks down and screams “Everything they say about me is true, I’m a phony”
The big thing about the hate lines is that--while he may actually hate Drake--he's referring to the elements of Drake that are cosplaying what Drake perceives as blackness.
Kendrick wasn't saying "Crodie" b/c he's a crip he was saying "Crodie" b/c that's what Toronto crips say instead of Brodie and he's making fun of them saying Drake is attaching his name to them (b/c he's homies with Pressa, a rapper and crip from Toronto), but that don't help his cred b/c they're fake and just imitating LA Gang culture so he's imitating them
Even in the definition of euphoria the sentence example is, “They had almost a week to recover from the euphoria of Tuesday's series-winning victory”. He dropped this on a Tuesday.
Idk if it was intentional, but the daft punk line had a double meaning. Off stage, Daft Punk is silent. They ain't talk on anything, to stay out of drama. He was telling Drake to stop talking shit off stage.
Kendrick just spit one of the best diss tracks I've ever heard. 6 minutes, 3 switch ups, layered, entendres, full of style and substance. This is truly one of a kind.
Kendrick deliberately confuses Haley Joel Osment (star of The Sixth Sense and A.I.) with Joel Osteen. Osteen is a televangelist whose voice has been appropriated using AI, which adds to the lyricism since Kendrick jokes that he can't tell who he's battling. Freaking crazy bar. 🔥
The Sexyy Red line goes even deeper than that. "When I see you stand by Sexyy Red, I believe you see two bad bitches." is also referring to the "Rich Baby Daddy" music video where Drake stood by Sexyy Red as she was pregnant, implying that Drake thinks that both Sexyy Red and the baby are "bad bitches." 😭
@@FloBro31But he picked this since 10 years ago when he chose to deem Dot's Control verse as an offense rather than a competitive jab which was the ORIGINAL intention 🤷🏻
@@zenoevol5991 No dude the real first shot happened on the like that verse. If that would have never came out none of these diss tracks would have ever happened.
@@Vitaluv No he didn't. None of these diss tracks would have happened if Kendrick hadn't dropped like that dissing Drake which prompted Drake to drop push-ups. You literally can't dispute that because it's 100% facts.
I read a comment under a post that explained how the title “Euphoria” is the quintuple that Drake asked for. 1) Euphoria definition 2) example of the word definition 3) The series sexualizing kids 4) Drake’s allegations 5) Him producing the show If any one is a reach.. here’s an extra. 6) Dropping it on a Tuesday
7) dropping on April 30th the Day of the Child. “This day recognizes children, their importance to society and their well-being. This celebration of children was started in the US on April 30, 1997 and promoted by Pat Mora a literary advocate and award winning author who thought people in the US should join many Latin American countries in this celebration.”

@kewlfn9463 he's mistaken but he did switch his CADENCE 3 times, the slow from the top, then into the breathy flow and then once more with each beat change which is 3

@@StayBlessed47 not just that, a Toronto crips member that’s tied to Drake shot and killed the guy that robbed Drake in 09. Kenny is saying he will go there in the middle of Toronto crips territory strapped up and eat good. They won’t do shit to him.
Don’t speculate just google Drake robbery 2009. He got Mona Lisa’d. They took his chain watch and money for being a snitch. Two of three were arrested and he got his shit back. No gun found. The Rapper dipped sauced (got away) with the blammy (gun) and was never caught.
@@billywilly1586Drake didnt snitch. And how you say he got robbed Because he snitched?? Yall just make shit up. Drake didnt even cooperate...so they got off...even though they already plead guilty. It is what it is.
Also the whipping feet bar is a reference to the black community, they usually whip light skin children on the feet so the bruises dont show on their body lmaoo. My mom heard this bar and started dying laughing, got me going down memory lane.
That music is meant to represent the state of Euphoria, also its a Teddy Pendergrass sample, meaning Black soul music, which ties into the bar about Black American heritage being copied by a Canadian. There's so many layers.
It’s also a flip on Drakes bar about him being inspirational to these other rappers. The Teddy Pendergrass melody KDot uses is called you’re my latest, my greatest inspiration.
People are saying that Kendrick mistook Haley Joel Osment for Joel Olsteen but I think the pronunciation is intentional, because Joel Olsteen is a christian televangelist that most people consider a fraud and a scam artist, and he says that Drake's feeling like both the actor and the fraud.
I can't stand the way you Kendrick stans reach. Read that back and look how embarrassing it sounds...Why would he say joell olsteen and then drop and AI/Sixth Sense bar? He clearly got em mixed up

He was covering that angle but after that video he dropped it completely.
Lol... It's not even a light skin thing, it's the fact that he not connected to Black American culture in any way. He grew up in an upper middle class area with a jewish mother. He is truly acting. His entire persona is an act... I mean, he is an actor after all. 😂 Im so glad Kendrick exposed him. D-Rake has never truly paid homage to Black American culture and from old videos of him in Canada, he has never seen himself as a Black man. 2 months down the line and i can confidently say that this diss is a masterpiece! Its a diss, a prediction, a warning all in 2 beat switches and bars all over the place.
Im 34. Got out of work and been listening to the track and reactions since. THIS IS HIP HOP!! No matter what your opinion is, THIS IS HIP HOP HISTORY.That being said.. Kendrick the goat 😂
The beginning when Kendrick is shouting “Shoo!” It’s a double entendre for saying shoo away a dog and he’s saying it in the way Drake makes his Ad libs, clowning him like he did to Big Sean.
Even the ad libs are double entendres 🤯 you guys are MFn over the top ridiculous so Gucci is a F’n genius cause “Skrrrrt” is the sound sports cars make when peeling out and that what girls wear!!!! Wow 🤣
@@_truthBtold I've said it before. Kendrick Lamar is the Christopher Nolan of rap. Started out brilliant. But now, fans are so afraid of being called stupid for not understanding his art that they overcompensate and makeup all kinds of bs to try and make it make sense.
And don't forget, grunts and sounds were the first form of audible communication human beings came up with, tens of thousands of years ago, so every noise he makes is a double entendre for him being an example of intelligent life as opposed to AI...
He called Drake lame and then he said you thought money and fame would make YOU go away. Referring back to him being lame and saying that he hates himself.
I thought more people would catch that subtle bar, but more folks than I thought didn't catch it. In the words of Hov's P.S.A. - "You was who you was before you got here!"

I watched this video yesterday, but I had to come back and leave a comment on it today... I've been looking at alot of the Euphoria reaction vids and yours BY FAR is better than all the other ones I've seen! No gimmicks, no loud yelling and screaming, no bias from you as far as I can tell, no personal comments to interject yourself into the conversion, just straight to the point. You addressed many of the bars and lines the best you could and it all makes sense with how you broke it down. Weird thing is, many of the guys I see speaking on this record are in the music business somehow be it mainstream or even battle rap and have big followings, yet your analysis is FLAWLESS. I can honestly tell that your music journey comes with hard work and studying. And The fact that this reaction was immediate makes it that much more special! Keep doing your thing man!!
Have to say kudos to Knox on how he runs things, just plugs merch once then gives us what we want, no sponsors, nothing else, Knox is a man of the people!!
The Terrance Crawford “whooping feet” bar also has another meaning, because Terrance Crawford’s main mandatory to defend his titles against is Guy called Jaron “Boots” Ennis, so the “whooping feet” bar is referring to whooping “Boots” 🔥
I can't even lie I have watched three reactions that led me to you. And this is by far the absolute best breakdown of everything that's going on in this song and I love it. You have a fan for life here.
I am legitimately impressed by your ability to instantly pick up double and triple entendres in songs. So many of us (and reactors) take a few days and sometimes weeks to realize missed points. You did in a fast reaction about 80% what What’s The Dirt? did in his video. And that took him nearly a month to do. No hate to him cause I respect the hell out of his dedication, but you did pull references that most reactors missed in their videos.
19:48 "I'm Terrence Crawford, yea I'm whoppin feet" could also be a reference to Jaron "boots" Ennis - who has been calling out Crawford for a fight; Crawford meanwhile has bigger fish to fry and has moved up to Jr. Middleweight to fight for a title in that weight class. 🔥 Bar for those in boxing..

It's not a lightskin thing. Drake wears blackness like he is an actor. He takes it off when he gets home.
That shit white thing and rap, i hope not poke EM.

Sizzlac is also rumored to be one of the people that robbed Drake at gunpoint in 2009
Drake recently has aligned himself with another Toronto rapper named Pressa, who is apart of the Driftwood CRIPS gang.

The big thing about the hate lines is that--while he may actually hate Drake--he's referring to the elements of Drake that are cosplaying what Drake perceives as blackness.

“My first one like my last one, it’s a classic, you don’t have one, let your core audience stomach that then tell them where you get your abs from” 😂
A thousand words just to say Drake's abs are fake lol.
@@kh7688his first and last works are instant classics while drake, who is fake, and his fans, who will never be able to stomach how shallow and forgettable his music is, both seethe. hope this helps.
@@kh7688that’s all you got from that lol copium
@@kh7688 Do you know what songwriting and rap is bro?
Just say you don't.
You can't downplay Kendrick lol
Drake brought the energy and shots and he was great but Kendrick shit on him and buried him too.
Hope the song Drake kept has some gas because if not...boooy. LMAO
@@Xeltos but boooooy 😂
We love Eminem because he is not faking the funk! He also knows he benefits greatly from black culture, “ White America” was a good song. He actually can rap, be goofy and put out a killer diss track.
He gave Kendrick the stamp of approval…that’s from one word smith to another.
Knox is the only one that got it. Everyone else is like "thEse lYriCs aRe aLl ovEr tHe pLaCe"
Have to say kudos to Knox on how he runs things, just plugs merch once then gives us what we want, no sponsors, nothing else, Knox is a man of the people!!
nah when you explained the start of the song i got shocked fr i haven’t heard anyone say that you are the goat man
The Terrance Crawford “whooping feet” bar also has another meaning, because Terrance Crawford’s main mandatory to defend his titles against is Guy called Jaron “Boots” Ennis, so the “whooping feet” bar is referring to whooping “Boots” 🔥
I was going to post this and it’s absolutely nuts how he referred to it. That bar is tough as nails
Thanks for posting this
Also, whipping feet is a punishment to inflict pain and embarrassment. Seems relevant.
Holy shit that went over my head damn literally not a bar wasted
Thank you for saying this. I had no idea what was going on with that.
I can't even lie I have watched three reactions that led me to you. And this is by far the absolute best breakdown of everything that's going on in this song and I love it. You have a fan for life here.
The shooo line is crazy to me cuz it calls to drakes “out on the loooose” but also the shoe size angle. Also telling the Owl to shoo away
KNOX HILL THATS WHY HES THE GOAT, THE GOOOOAAAAT!!
🙏🙏
This guys knowledge is so underrated. Guy knows all music references, movie references, sports references man doesn't miss
Kendrick is saying he's in another weight class now, but will kill boots (feet)...
in addition Bud is pfp number 1 rn so Kendrick saying he is the best. Big Me!!!
and Crawford’s ringwalk with Eminem vs Spence? maybe there is something.
It's funny how some of this influencers are calling this mid while they are missing so many layers to it
