The ninth and final circle of hell in Dante's Inferno was reserved for the worst sinners.... it was for Treachery and betrayal towards loved ones and close friends.
Solid opinions man, a lot of people just focus on the context of the story and remove themselves from the situation, so they'll say Griffith was justified because he had no other option, but raping Casca proved he was acting on petty feelings as much as his other emotions. And the biggest thing is, if someone knew a guy like Griffith who screwed them over, they'd never forgive them, that real world aspect is key to making people get it.
Femto /=/ Griffith God Hand states that when you sacrifice something, it's like giving up a part of yourself which is shown with Griffith as well. He can't be held responsible for Femto's actions because that's a different form of him
People are justified in pursuing their ambitions by any means but it doesn't mean you should just forgive a slight against you lol, your logic isn't sound. Something being justified doesn't mean that there should be no retaliation.
You know, you could make a case Thanos was right. But Griffith? Thanos got nothing out of his deal. Matter fact he gave up the power he had. Griffith was purely self driven.
An underrated detail in Berserk: there’s nothing I find more unsettling than Griffith/Femto’s eyes now that he’s a full fledged apostle: you can actually FEEL just how much of a monster and a madman he actually is now that his eyes look more bestial and demonic.
Griffith has every sign of being a narcissist. I don’t mean that in the way anyone gets called that but an actual full on narcissistic psychopath. He never truly saw Guts as a friend but as a took that Griffith owned and could be disposed when needed.
You asume that Griffith sees the band as his friends. He does not. He specifically says to the princess that in order for someone to be his friend first he has to become his equal, to have a dream of his own. The Band of the Hawk was nothing but a tool for him to achieve his goal and he used them till the very end to become a demi god. He did have feelings for them once but he came to the realization that attachment to soldiers that can die in the next battle is foolish and he was right. The only stupid thing he did was sleeping with the princess and in that state he was very depressed. People can say what they want but i personally think that he was very confused how to feel about Guts. He saw him as a friend but the same time as a tool as well. Guts leaving made him feel lonely and isolated again, just a leader among tools. Mind you it was not Guts's fault. I have seen a lot of people claiming that they are morally good but in reality they are just fooling themselves. If they got flayed, tortured for a year, being cripled for life not being able to bathe, use the bathroom by themselves they would want to fix that and death would be the last option. Idk how the Behelith got triggered but the moment the band entered literal Hell they were dead no matter what choice Griffith would have made. I doubt that the God Hand would have returned them back into the real world if Griffith said no. All i see is that Griffith saw the band as a tool because he suffered mentally if he got attached and in order to become a god, he sacrificed a hundred tool soldiers so that all those who died under his flag wouldn't have died for nothing. After he became Femto he truly died as the last humanity in him got extinquished leaving only lust for power and cruelty.

There's a massive difference, galactic-wise even, between *understanding* Griffith's choice and *defending* Griffith's choice. One entails that you're a fully functioning human with empathic capabilities. The other entails that you're a psychopathic time-bomb waiting to blow up. There are some victories that aren't worth it. Sometimes defeat is the only choice, sometimes death will save you from becoming a morbid, inhuman joke of your once noble form. Nothing is above your humanity, no matter how obsessed you are with an specific goal. Once you become a monster, there is no turning back.
But did he really do anything wrong tho? I mean, he just sacrificed everyone who had fought and bled for him, raped his most devoted soldier and tortured his best friend over his petty feelings, while turning into a demon lord. Idk, seems pretty normal to me.
Raping casca was far too much only main reason i can never accept him but sacrificing band of hawk was with his character cause he was the type of person who can sacrifice anyone for his goals even himself
I do believe that Griffith wasn’t entirely to blame for accepting the Godhand’s offer, the universe literally conspired against him to get him to this point and after all the shit he went through with the king, his judgment was impaired. However, once he had been restored to a godly body, renewing his chance to become a king, he faces full accountability for his horrid actions, like raping Casca, and not telling anyone how he gained his awesome power. A good man would be honest, not hide his crimes through a veil of false light.
Griffith definitely did a terrible thing by sacrificing all his friends, but anything after that he can't be held accountable for because becoming an apostle or member of the god hand severely warps your personality and removes almost all your emotions of empathy and compassion
Post-torture Griffith is just an insane broken person, there is no point to talking about betrayal after that. He is basically no longer human. The fact that makes him horrible and unforgivable is what he did when he was on his peak. He just couldn't be happy unless everything went 100% his way at the cost of others. Guts and Casca had to remain his inferiors serving him until their dying breath. Most people show their flaws when pushed to the brink. That can still be unjust, but you could at least somewhat factor in fear and survival instinct clouding their judgement. You know Griffith is truly an evil bastard cause he even showed ugliness to his most loyal friends when he was winning hard.
