It’s as much fun watching your face as it is rewatching these old clips. Now you must sample Damon as Homey D. Clown, hilarious with his catch phrase, “Homey don’t play dat!!”
Damon Wayans was the best of the Wayans brothers, especially on this show. Of course, Keenan-Ivory Wayans was the creative force, Damon was just so naturally funny.
You know I saw Damon do stand up back in the early or mid 90’s and man was he good. I always felt the same about him. Funniest and most talented although Keenan was a badass himself
For context, I'm 53. I remember an episode where one of the two critics was accidentally hit on the head with a heavy object. This (somehow) resulted in the character becoming a stereotypical straight guy who loved violent movies and female nuded. The episode ended with him getting hit on the head (again) and he was magically gay again. The critic was so happy to have his gay partner back. But more importantly, so was the audience. Everyone laughed and cheered with joy when we had our outrageous gay duo back again. No one was happy that the film critic was finally "normal" and no one was disappointed that he went back to being gay.
Yes, there was stuff like this on tv back then. In living color was a huge show. We all loved it. All the stereo types were made fun of, and people just laughed about it. Because we all knew it was just comedy. And didn't get but hurt with a simple joke
Fox was a pioneer of sorts when they started up. There was this, Married with Children and the Simpsons. Once they became big enough and earned the NFL rights to broadcast NFC games, they became a powerhouse. These shows shaped how TV has evolved, but also were the early creators of the backlash we see today. Lots of "Karens" particularly hated and protested "Married with Children".
One of the most controversial shows in the late 80’s and early 90’s was “Married with Children”. It ran for 11 seasons on FOX and was controversial from the first episode to last episode. The main characters were Al and Peggy Bundy and their son and daughter and their next door neighbors. Al works as a shoe salesman and is miserable. You can find several “Best of” videos of his best insults which are absolutely hilarious! It won’t take long to get the controversy.
If you are shocked by them you should check out All in the family from the 70's. Please do more of these 2.I have always loved them. We were all going around stealing their phrases.
The way Britt reacts to In Living Color is the way I (almost 50 years old) feel about All in the Family. I would love to see reactions to AitF. But as we learned from Norman Lear (AitF) and the Wayans brothers (ILC), talking about these topics can be extremely controversial, but also brings certain taboo topics to the forefront so that we can talk about it openly and honestly. By depicting the stereotypes as absurdly as they were, they did more to quash false stereotypes than they did to spread them.
Yes we have progressed where any curse word is allowed , nudity is allowed , soft porn can be seen and the talk shows are now either political or trash journalism but shows like this are banned because someone's feelings got hurt . Yes we have really progressed as a society .
I was a kid when this came on. It was a phenomenon. And it was on Fox which was a new channel back then and they were the renegades of the tv networks. They did things very differently and it was wonderful
IF I remember correctly, this aired on FOX and this station was just in its infancy stages. Therefore, they pushed the envelope on alot of things. Early (married with children, X-files, Beverly hills 90210, Melrose place. etc....) they were give some latitude with content.
Television was more censored as far as language, but content was fair game, especially when you were trying to push buttons. The 90s were wild, in the best way. Jokes were jokes and taken as such.
Those two were notorious for trying to crack each other up. Absolutely hilarious whenever they were on screen together. Check out Men on Art. It was the first one of these skits
Nah you’ve it got it backwards actually lol. Back then you ONLY had cable tv, radio etc. all censored and monitored. NOW with all the additional platforms you can get away with WAY more. How many tv shows on cable you couldn’t say certain words?, sitcom on Netflix and let the curses fly because theirs no one monitoring the same way. Satellite radio where again you can curse and say what you like.
Here's what you have to understand. "In Living Color" was a Fox show. The network was not that old at the time, and they were trying to be noticed like "the big three" networks. They allowed shows to be a lot bolder with their content than the other networks did at the time. Shows like this and "Married with Children" would never have flown on the other networks. That is why Fox put them on. While "the big three" went right, Fox went left in order to attract viewers. It was the perfect strategy.
I loved Sunday nights. Simpsons, in living color, Herman’s head. Also j lo was a fly girl in living color. Brings back memories. Also seeing this replay I forgot what they used to get away with.
This was a great series on In Living Color. I think there were probably about a dozen episodes or so. They are all worth a watch. Especially the TV Show review episode when Blaine hits his head. YOU KNOW THE ONE!!!!
In Living Color was great for its time. And it was definitely adult television, but they were making fun of everybody. The Wayans boys did great sketch comedy.
The reason that this kind of show was able to be on TV it's back then people didn't get their panties in an uproar and the PC crap wasn't around to complain. The audience was laughing hysterically and having fun
We had Censors back then... But we got away with FAR more than you can today! But back then, one slip of the tongue or misunderstanding wouldn't cost you your entire Career! You may have been "busted" (I.E. Pee Wee Herman or Mel Gibson), but eventually they were forgiven... and that's something that DOESN'T Happen today! When someone decides they don't like you, they HAVE to tear you down... Why, I'll never know. People don't just walk away the way we did.
Back then we didn't have to worry about offending anyone or anyone offending us. We didn't have to worry about locking our doors at night or school shootings, we could walk down the street and not have to worry about drive by shootings. I grew up in one of the best generations ever. Afros, Bell-bottoms and Platt Form Shoes was the era (late 60's - 1970's) I was just a kid during those years but it was the best time to be living in unlike today.
@@LeShawnTho Oh I lived my childhood in the 70's and it was the best time back then. You didn't have to worry about strangers coming in your house at night or during the day. I remember when it was halloween all the houses had their lights on giving out candy you didn't have to worry someone putting anything in your candy back then, you heard about it but they were few and far between. As for going to school I was young when the riots of the 60's were still happening in school but it all went away by the time I was in 1st grade and never really experienced it as much as my older siblings did they remembered it. I had a better experience in then they did when I graduated from high school you could feel that the times were changing you feel it was starting to get bad within 3 years of my leaving school they had police patrolling the school grounds which was a shock to me. So yeah I had a wonderful childhood without any kind of worries or drive by shootings.
Around the same time as this was on, there was a skit show from up in Canada called Kids in the Hall. It was five guys and they played the roles of the women often, with lots of stuff that wouldn't likely get air today, plenty of dressup, social commentary, I think they dropped the f****t word numerous times. It wasn't even a specialty network it aired on, it was the national broadcaster
haha - girl - u are my new favrorite! just love ya - and thx for ur beautiful heartfilled reactions to gabriel and putri - u make me laugh- smile -and cry also ! great music hits our souls - love u for that - and yes-men on film - in loving color was a breakthru back in the day -one of my favs too ! much love to u and urs
Malkovich has been in a lot of good movies: ConAir, In the Line of Fire(with Clint Eastwood), Dangerous Liaisons, Johnny English, The Man in the Iron Mask, Places in the Heart, The Killing Fields....to name a few.
When I worked at FOX (The network! Not "News") I passed by Damon Waynes talking to someone in a hallway & we smiled. He may have winked. But, I'm not sure bcz all I can remember is how sparkly his eyes were!! I've never seen anything like it before or since. Just... damn.
If you don't know who John Malkovich is, you need to watch the late 90's movie "Being John Malkovich". They say his name something like a hundred times (exaggerating) in one scene. You'll never forget his name. ;-) He's also amazing in "Rounders" with Matt Damon. More of a guy film since it's about poker, but his character is as unique as you'll find.
This show, ''Married With Children'' and so many other television shows, classics and masterpieces in their time couldn't be done today! The movie industry has the same issue, political correctness kills creativity!
Omg "Clutch the pearls"!!!! Also this was on late night on early Fox also. You could get away with a lot more after 9pm which is nowdays almost seen as normal lol
If you don't know who John Malkovich is, you really need to go on a movie hunt. You'll love him. I think he's most known, today, for his role as Humma Kavula from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. My favorite role was in Making Mr. Right, which I highly suggest you watch. I didn't care for any of the Karate Kids. They were fine if nothing else was on, but... not my thing. I did enjoy The Next Karate Kid with Hilary Swank, though. She was awesome, and the whole thing with the monks was kind of adorable all around.
Mad TV, In living color, Married with Children, all great shows during an era of censorship. They werent allowed to use certain words, but you could imply and innuendo the hell outta things, oh, and we understtod comedy, laughed not offended
I was a kid when In Living Color came out. There was nothing else like it really. You had Married With Children first, which really pushed the boundaries of the late 80s. Then The Simpsons also very late 80s. But they were also different from what In Living Color was.
Fox was where you went for outrageous content. I saw a comment about All In The Family, very controversial in the 70's. Along with them, we had Maude, The Jeffersons, and Good Times for a new source of edgy comedy.
This was one of the best times every, people could just have fun, poke fun at things and no one got offended. That comedy wouldn't work today. Too many soft people. Thanks for sharing.
Any time there is a woman starring in the movie "Hated it". John Malkovich is a brilliant actor; but he plays a seducer of women in that movie and, to me, that fell flat. Great Balls of Fire was a movie about Jerry Lee Lewis. He was very controversial in his day. A rock- a- billy star with tons of energy and could play the keys off of a piano.

RIP Biggie. Love the shirt! My favorite one of these skits! I was waiting patiently because the laughs this one brings are throughout! Thanks again Britt✌🏻 Always fantastic

Here's some suggestions for more In Living Color reactions(Men on Film/Oswald Bates/The Brothers Brothers, The Wrath of Farrakahn, etc) It was CLASSIC & still funny!
You need to watch more older shows, it was censored in some respects but not to the humongous level that it is now because people are so offended about everything and worry about being "disrepectful". People knew how to take a joke, they knew how to be strong and not weak, they learned to stand up for themselves, people understood differences and racism was pretty much extinguished until the recent generations brought it back. We had a hell of a lot more fun back before 2012.
You should watch every, In Living Color, show. And not be so shocked and sensitive. It’s comedy. Get over it. I’m 65 white male I grew up watching, sanford and son, Chico and the man, Good times. All in the family, The Jeffersons, I laughed and did not get offended by anything. Married with children, Tracy Allman show, In living color. 👍
😂 every movie starring a woman they 'Hated It!"
The Simpsons, In Living Color, Married... with Children, Martin. Fox was wild.
Hell yeah and York Undercover
It’s as much fun watching your face as it is rewatching these old clips. Now you must sample Damon as Homey D. Clown, hilarious with his catch phrase, “Homey don’t play dat!!”

I reacted to ur 1st "Men on Football". I knew u would luv this too. All I can say is "Clutch my pearls, what a sneaky thing to do". Enjoy the 😂
Damon & David were hysterically funny as they played their characters so incredibly perfect.

"Great Balls Of Fire" was a biopic about the late great Jerry Lee Lewis. 👍👍
In living color was must watch TV every week
This was the very 1st sketch of these characters on the show.
That was always my favourite.....when Damon said "Don't get mad....." :-)

My favorite part of the show !
There's an entire movie called "Being John Malkovich," which is wonderful! "Dangerous Liaisons" is great too ... also stars Michelle Pfeiffer.
This was the very first Men skit. Notice they are much more contained and not as animated.
I didn't miss an episode of ILC. They did get away with a lot of shit, and I couldn't wait to see what they would get away with next.😂

The early days of Saturday Night Live in the late 70’s to early 80’s had their moments which opened the way for later shows like In Living Color.
IF I remember correctly, this aired on FOX and this station was just in its infancy stages. Therefore, they pushed the envelope on alot of things. Early (married with children, X-files, Beverly hills 90210, Melrose place. etc....) they were give some latitude with content.

No. Television was LESS censored back then. We have way more censorship now that we had in the 80's and 90's.

This aired on FOX, which was aimed at a young and more open audience than the traditional networks.
The younger generation has been lied to about what the past really was sadly.
I love David Alan Grier’s strumph…
This was a great series on In Living Color. I think there were probably about a dozen episodes or so. They are all worth a watch. Especially the TV Show review episode when Blaine hits his head. YOU KNOW THE ONE!!!!
In Living Color was great for its time. And it was definitely adult television, but they were making fun of everybody. The Wayans boys did great sketch comedy.
This was on Fox, which you could only get on UHF! This was a different antenna that you had to buy to get this. Wow this brings back the memories.
This wasn't even on cable this was just broadcast Fox TV from 1990 to 1994
The reason that this kind of show was able to be on TV it's back then people didn't get their panties in an uproar and the PC crap wasn't around to complain. The audience was laughing hysterically and having fun

This show was the shit !!!!
Nothing beat it cast of characters was unparalleled. I miss them.
In Living Color did try & push the jokes as close to the edge as possible to get away with it,which made it all the more funny

Lol you must have lived in a really nice area if you didn't lock your doors in the 90's! I remember drive bys happening all the time back then.

They talk about Lethal Weapon at the end, and Damon Wayans went on to star in the Lethal Weapon TV series. Nice coincidence there.
Malkovich has been in a lot of good movies: ConAir, In the Line of Fire(with Clint Eastwood), Dangerous Liaisons, Johnny English, The Man in the Iron Mask, Places in the Heart, The Killing Fields....to name a few.
I went to a taping of In Living Color and the cast keep busting out laughing so they had to retakes over and over.We was there all damn night.
No television is more censored now then it was back then.

If anyone is overly sensitive these days, as so many seem to be … I just say “Well, clutch the pearls.”
Comedy is having an understanding of someone else's differences... laughter will brings people together and that is true🤘

Communication was an issue with my teen daughter at the time, but we bonded with this show. Two snaps up!
Don’t forget 2 snaps up with a twist!
Two snaps, a twist, and no kiss!
That gets two snaps up. It was better back than, then it is now
Fox was where you went for outrageous content. I saw a comment about All In The Family, very controversial in the 70's. Along with them, we had Maude, The Jeffersons, and Good Times for a new source of edgy comedy.

Great balls of fire is about Jerry Lee Lewis staring Denis quade

Hi Britt. I just found your channel. I love the content. You've got a new subscriber from Toronto. All the best!!!!
Glad you enjoy the videos!! Thanks for subscribing!!
This was hilarious then and now
In Living Color is the pinnacle of sketch comedy
I think Chapelle's Show surpassed it.
In Living Color was comic genius.
You should do some reactions to Archie Bunker and George Jefferson if you want to see what shows got away with on tv back in the day !
Gene Anthony Ray played Leroy in the movie and tv show Fame
RIP Biggie. Love the shirt! My favorite one of these skits! I was waiting patiently because the laughs this one brings are throughout! Thanks again Britt✌🏻 Always fantastic
The big 3 networks ruled the ratings back then and cable tv was mediocre at best. Fox was the young upstart network and 4th in the ratings so it was the Wild West. What no one realized was the people my age (gen x) were laughing our asses off every night.
Hush. The truth is not disrespectful. And.... Respect isnt earned, its taught by a father, so many dont even know what i is
everything isn't disrepect, sometimes people are just being cute

Best Show❤
Things, in many ways, are WAY MORE CENSORED today. So much more you cannot say today
These guys were hilarious!!!
Here's some suggestions for more In Living Color reactions(Men on Film/Oswald Bates/The Brothers Brothers, The Wrath of Farrakahn, etc) It was CLASSIC & still funny!
No people back then knew how to have fun and not be offended by everything
Back then you could say or do about anything as long as you weren't swearing.😂very funny reaction.definitely miss those shows
You need to watch more older shows, it was censored in some respects but not to the humongous level that it is now because people are so offended about everything and worry about being "disrepectful". People knew how to take a joke, they knew how to be strong and not weak, they learned to stand up for themselves, people understood differences and racism was pretty much extinguished until the recent generations brought it back. You thought TV was censored back then?you must have never saw All in the Family, the Jeffersons,Sanford and Son,Married with Children.
Homey as Santa
You should watch every, In Living Color, show. And not be so shocked and sensitive. It’s comedy. Get over it. I’m 65 white male I grew up watching, sanford and son, Chico and the man, Good times. All in the family, The Jeffersons, I laughed and did not get offended by anything. Married with children, Tracy Allman show, In living color. 👍
This was back when people actually had a sense of humor
