I'm fairly certain that this film's conception was the writers brainstorming with "okay, obviously we want Sam Rockwell and he will be the nucleus around which we base this script."
The Thermian's particular way of speaking and moving came from Enrico Colantoni, who played Mathesar. He auditioned with the peculiar sing-song intonation and the alien kinesics (e.g. the arms swinging with the leg on that side, instead of opposite the way we normally walk). The producers were so enamored of it that Colantoni was asked to train the other Thermian actors.
Tony Shalhoub aka Fred Kwan was playing the character that was stoned throughout, hence the munchies and just taking everything he saw in his stride. Sigourney did in fact keep the blond wig as she liked it so much. At 15:19 Guy screams (adlib) and it makes Sigourney jump.
My connection to this film is that as an actor I have worked with Tony Shalhoub on an episode of Monk, and I worked with Enrico Colantoni on an episode of Veronica Mars. Both men were delights to work with. Also, I keep forgetting about him, Kevin McDonald is the guy doing the announcing at the convention, lived across the street from me in W. Hollywood. He was a member of The Kids In The Hall, a comedy show that I loved.
Veronica Mars was good, but two of my favorite shows were Monk and Person of Interest, in which Enrico was amazing in the recurring role of Elias. Two fine actors to have worked with. (I just looked up your Monk credit; I remember you as the copier technician.)
Pound for pound, Shaloub may be the best comic actor of recent history. . .starting with Wings (and one of my favorite bits from him is as the cabbie no one in NYC can understand in Quick Change)
As a Trek fan I totally enjoyed this movie. Side random trivia: a few years later, Alan Rickman and Sam Rockwell would appear in another movie with the word Galaxy in the title...
Great reaction Cami and welcome back, like always, Absolutely adore this movie, and im so glad it's gotten a well-deserved revival these days. The scene when Tim Allen is in a men's room overhearing how the cast of Galaxy Quest are nobodies and all the co-stars can't stand him mirrors an actual event in William Shatner's life. He discovered the exact same things about himself when he attended a 1986 convention. And a fun-fact That scene on the rock planet, Lt. Laredo chides Dr. Lazarus for holding his tracking device upside down, claiming that he actually thought Dr. Lazarus' character was "smart or something" by the way he was leading the group to find the nearest Beryllium sphere, before realizing he was using the device incorrectly. This is a subtle reference to the first season of Startrek (1966), where Mr. Spock often held his tricorder back to front, possibly on account of Leonard Nimoy being not yet familiar with the prop. The N.S.E.A. Protector's serial number is NTE-3120. N.T.E. stands for Not the Enterprise. And the character Gwen DeMarco (Sigourney Weaver) laments that her TV Guide interview was "six paragraphs of my boobs and how they fit into my suit." This actually happened to Jeri Ryan, who played Seven of Nine on Star Trek Voyager (1995). Keep up the good work.
Another fun part of the Beryllium sphere scene happens just when they land on the planet. Guy gets upset with Kwan for opening the back of the craft before checking for air. Kwan takes a breath and says "Seems okay."
Back in the 60s the California coast guard actually recieved numerous phone calls and telegrams from concerned TV viewers, asking them to do something about "...those poor people stranded on that island."
Justin Long, the kid, does a pretty good job along with Bruce Willis in "Live Free or Die Hard. This one is a pseudo love note to Star Trek fans. Good reaction.
I can only think of one reason why Alan Rickman had his character keep his headpiece on throughout the movie. It's my contention that he feared audiences would have a hard time seeing Alexander Dane as his TV character anymore had he not worn it during his phone call with Gwen.

Worf of course offers to share at which point Riker just smiles, chuckles and does that wave of the hand thing saying no. Meanwhile: “tastes like corn fed Iowa beef”. The Thermians introduced themselves as being from the Klatu Nebula. I remember Klatu as the band who sang Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft. It makes me wonder if that's why that name was chosen.
The interesting thing about this film, is that the trailers pretty much made it clear what the film was about it, so the main twist was known by most viewers going in to see the movie. I think the limo being taken might have even been included. So, if you felt like you already knew the plot, there might have been a good reason. The real surprise about this film, is how well the drama works as a serious sci-fi film. It does have its comedic moments, but it's mainly situational. The world still holds up, and it wasn't distorted for comedic effect. Perhaps, this story could have happened, in a different Earth timeline. The story idea has been floating around for a long time, but I think this film was the best implementation of it. There was a published Trek fan story, that involved the original Trek crew swapping places with the actors. The action is great, the effects are great, and the film even has some good funny moments. It also has some very touching emotional moments as well. It continues to be one of my favorite sci-fi films. If my other favorite films had all been confined to only one film. I'm not sure how I'd rank them. Anyway, I enjoyed the reaction. It has been a while, since anyone has covered this film, and probably the majority of the reactors have covered this already. I am just glad to see another sci-fi fan fully appreciating this film. It really bears a few more rewatches, because there's a lot to notice, that you might not get the first or second time through. It's a great mood booster, like Back to the Future. Dreamworks rarely disappoints.
I saw this in the theater when it came out. I thought it was hilarious even though I wasn't a fan of the Star Trek show, just the first 3 movies and the JJ Abrams. This kind of parodies nerd convention culture without being mean.
I've never considered myself a trekkie but I've always enjoyed the Star Trek films: The first six films are focused in the OG cast, the seventh film (Generations) is a combination of both OG and TNG cast, but focused in TNG cast. Films 8-10 are focused in TNG cast. Films 11-13 (the Abrahams trilogy), give us a new "perspective" of the OG characters. Love your reactions!

@@Letstunein The movies began 10 years after the last episode of the show and. frankly, don't have the same "feel" as the show. I'd say that the movies aren't as good as the show. Please watch the show, and if you do, remember that the 3rd and final season of the show is more or less no good, since the creator, Roddenberry, had left in disgust with the network's behavior. Watch the first two seasons. I assure you that if you haven't seen the show, you don't know "Star Trek."
The joke about Fred Kwan is two-fold - the old TV and Hollywood habit of having white people or people of the wrong ethnicity playing ethnic characters (in this case, he's not actually East Asian), and also that while he did the original TV show he was very obviously on Bolivian nose candy (it was the 80's after all) and now he's on the devil's lettuce. 😁

It’s gonna be hard to hide! She is one of my best friends hehe 😁Also, thank you for the name!! It was bugging me during the movie!
15:07 Star Trek Enterprise series guy
The young guy's name you were trying to think of is Justin Long.
you will have to watch "The Orville" it is the best parody of star trek.
If you like this, you should watch The Three Amigos.
Watch Band of Brothers ,,8 or 9 CD from Spielberg and T .Hanks
Why is it always ducts? Oh you mean like in Alien?
Don't be a red shirt!
Funny movie..I don't watch Star Trek and I don't consider this a 'Star Trek movie'..just a great sci-fi comedy.Just my opinion.
So you never watched a single episode of the original series?
I’ve watched the movies! And one episode “space seed” for this channel. I’d love to watch more.
Miners, not minors.
Hi Cami hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤️
You too! Thank you John! 😊
"Star Trek trilogy"?
If you want to Trek off on a real Star Trek parody watch The Orville! Seth Mcfarlan is a Trekkie! This is garbage I feel bad for Weaver and Rickman! This makes Star Trek a joke!
Please do marvel your views will double if not triple
I read "Treks off" as something way different when I saw the title lol oh god
