Hos parents kindof used him so I dnt feel bad for them and he literally went thur life. You brake up with girls it's not a big deal. Was he ever 1 paycheck away from losing his home... or working a job where the boss is racist but you take it to survive. Or family member murdered and the killer gets off. I don't think that just because a person has money and "a 99% better life than most ppl" that their struggles don't matter. Yeah, breaking up with girls probably isn't a big deal, but I imagine having a camera shoved in your face while doing it just the way someone else wants you to is a different story. His life may not have been as difficult financially as it is for most ppl but the amount of pressure he had put on him at such a young age WAS sad. I think it's pretty arrogant to just dismiss someone else's hardships because you feel you/most ppl had it harder...

There was an Etnies demo in my city and for w/e reason he wasn't skating. Instead of just staying at the hotel or w/e he went and sat next to a wall and hads kids sitting down in a semi circle around him. He just sat and talked with those kids for the entire demo which was around 2 hours. He never got up once or anything just straight kicked it with them. I guarantee just like you, that left a life long impression on him. Before then I didn't really have any strong opinions on him but just thought he was a gifted skater who sold out. After that though it fully humanized him for me and you can tell he's just a legit chill dude.

As someone who personally spent time with Ryan Sheckler and his wife, I just want to say that Ryan is a sweet man! I met him through a friend, we drove from Los Angeles to Orange County to meet up at Ryan’s private skate warehouse. Since it was so late Ryan insisted that my friend and I stay the night. Keep in mind he did not know me from a can of paint, he didn’t want us driving back in rainy weather or super late. We literally stayed the night in his house, stayed up talking about various things and God and many more topics.oh yeah, his dog ate my playing cards. LMAO Ryan popped up with some new playing cards “omg I’m so sorry” and gives me some new cards, as if it was a big deal. The next morning Ryan and his wife asked us to go to church and breakfast with them. I can’t even describe how grateful I was to meet Shecks as a 90s baby I grew up watching his reality show and skate videos, and what made it even more special was that Ryan and his lady were so hospitable humble & sweet. Ryan will forever be one of my biggest motivations, I loved his style and the attitude he had towards skating...sucks how he was treated when he was a kid

I've been involved in martial arts since the same age that Ryan took up skateboarding, and never even came CLOSE to being world-class like he was. Just goes to show, you either got "it" or you don't. No shame if you don't, but it's a nice "what if" thought exercise to imagine reaching those heights. Hopefully minus the drawbacks of being a child star, of course.

Shoudlve taken up boxing and you would’ve got eyes on u: I wish I could’ve started something at a young age. I whole heartedly believe that anyone can make it w the right talent n dedication

It's not about you have it or don't. It's about the work you put into it. There are plenty of athletes that it didn't come second nature. They worked their asses off which is probably something you didn't do and there's no shame in it. They probably ran laps around you in terms of practice hours

@YoungCorruption I competed at the amateur level in Muay Thai and MMA, but after a few too many concussions, I needed to preserve as much brain health as I could. It had nothing to do with dedication; I spent more time in the gym and on the mat than most of the pros, but I'm not a natural athlete and stopped seeing my health as something worth sacrificing for money and/or glory. I'm still involved in the sports, and still actively train to stay in shape and remain capable of defending myself, but my plan to be a world champion lost its luster when I started having medical issues associated with head trauma.

I have watched this vid a couple of times now 😂 brings me so much nostalgia. I remember being like 10 or 11 and being obsessed with skating and thinking Ryan was the coolest kid ever. I always wondered what happened to him since the show ended so suddenly. It sickens me that all these adults put him through so much and that he never had anyone to keep him in check. I’m so happy that he’s doing so well tho. Seems like the most genuine guy. As a married man myself i know what a good woman can do for you and im glad he’s got that kinda support. I miss skateboarding being this popular. Skaters used to be up there with singers in popularity. Hopefully he’ll bring it back now with a whole new perspective and spreading a positive message. Wish him the best for real.

Ryan seems like a good dude. Screw MTV for doing this to a young kid all for their own personal gain.
