Néstor Carbonell (Bates Motel, Lost) joins us this week and shares his experience coming from a family of Cuban exiles, following expectations of going to Harvard, and then using leverage to make a name for himself on one of the biggest shows of all time… Lost. Néstor was great this week.
We talked about his humble beginnings, and never ‘taking for granted’ his countless guest-starring roles.
We also talk about his curveball on The Dark Knight, handling rejection, and the funny story of his first gig in a Zest commercial.

NÉSTOR CARBONELL: Leverage on Lost, Family Fleeing Cuba, Shooting the Dark Knight & Overcoming Impostor Syndrome #insideofyou #lost #batesmotel - Розваги
Nestor is a great guy, family friends with my Cuban grandfather, we get his families Christmas card every year! Met him in Miami when I was ten and the first thing out of my mouth was "You're Richard!" he had a good laugh and chatted with us for about 20 minutes. Great dude, very humble, and entertains my Papi's granddad jokes better than I do sometimes. Great stuff Michael!
I think Jacob's touch was real, this man is still ageless.
I try
exactly what i said he hasnt aged at all
He’s got old in Japan
Nestor is amazing in the series Bates Motel, definitely one of his most iconic roles.
Richard
It's always great when the guests are genuinely interested in talking. Great episode!
It’s Bat Manuel!!! 🦇
Best episode of Lost is his solo episode in season 6. Such an incredible presence.
My favorite episode, too!
Cool interview. Nestor Carbonell impressed me on Suddenly Susan, Lost, Bates Motel, and Psych. It was great to hear a long, detailed interview with him. Laughed when he was talking about his writing.
Nestor was humbling and insightful. Great reason and love towards his wife and kids while tempering his career. Thanks Nestor for a great conversation. And thanks Michael for a great interview! Bravo guys!
This week’s episode is delightful. Nestor definitely opened up and he has so many great stories. I enjoyed his role on Psych. He definitely has a positive outlook and attitude. A part 2 would be nice. Best podcast ever!!
As a Cuban, it was great seeing another Cuban on your show. Great interview as always
Nestor is an outstanding actor. This was a really good watch.
Nestor is such a lovely gentle and down to earth man and I like the way he interviewed you as part of the episode it definitely made for a more in depth conversation. Thank you for having him on the podcast I will certainly be checking out his work 😊💖
Micheal saying "providing a roof and food isn't enough" hits so deeply with me 'cus I went through the same.
Loved Nestor in Lost
One of the best mysterious characters
I'm so glad that you said that college is more than an education. I was bullied and an outcast from kindergarten through high school graduation. Starting college was my first experience with people accepting me for who I was and realizing screw the kids who didn't. I grew up so much and learned how to interact with people for the first time in my life.
The ending of LOST was spectacular, can't believe people hate it
Yo, I kid you not I just finished rewatching Lost yesterday. I love Nestor in everything he's in!
I am so thrilled you had him on the show! I have loved him since Suddenly Susan! And then of course, LOST and The Morning Show! 😃🥰❤
We love Nestor!!!
Nice to see Declan Rand on here, he should invite Curt Smith for the music.
Michael I LOVED Lost's ending and I love Néstor Carnobell's Richard, thank you for this!
I really loved his little story arch on psych!!!
I love Nestor!!!!!
Not only from SS and Lost, but huge fan of Bates Motel!
And Michael, I too loved the ending of Lost.
Just about to start watching this!! Thank you Michael for always getting the best guests ❤ Thank you so much for asking my question too!! You are the best ❤️❤️❤️ Happy Tuesday 💙
I started watching shogun recently and Nestor’s acting Rodríguez is GREAT!!
Great podcast every week on Tuesday with Michael, Ryan and incredible guests. Love this one! Gave to me so much to think about. Thank you Michael!
Beautiful episode, ty for this gift.
Nestor such a talented character actor. It's a nice Justice League Unlimited reunion since he voiced El Diablo in the episode Weird Western Tales, part 1.
I'm going to be so psyched to watch Nestor on screen and will think back to how charismatic he was in this interview. You bring out the best in people Michael!
Thanks Michael for making this interviews with amazing people that most of the time we audiences do not get to know in depth.Greetings from Argentina
Another pleasant discovery !❤ I know Nestor Carbonell a little through The Dark Knight and Lost. I’m always eager to hear about your different carees through your families stories , what you do perfectly, Michael, as always !🙌🙌💙💙💙👌 and 🙌🙌💖 Ryan.
Looking forward to listening to this one and learning more about him.
Lost is my favourite show of all time. And Bates Motel is up there. Nestor is absolutely brilliant. This was a treat.
A DJ at a Roller Rink! That brings back memories of the 1970's eh!
Thanks folks, awesome guest!!!
I can't believe they didn't talk about The Tick. He will always be Batmanuel!
this was such a great episode! hope he comes back❤
Your podcast is so inspiring, always look forward to every week. Another amazing guest like always, Michael you Rock!!
Killer interview - Thank you
Great episode!!! Will be ordering Shannon Kenny book thanks for sharing it and always being honest about your mental health!
What an amazing interview... just do personal therapy is life!❤️❤️🌹🌹
Amazing!!! Guest!!!!💙🤘
Another great podcast.
I was lucky enough to meet him at my local comic con and was just awesome. He is such a great person . We had a nice conversation and took some picks . The man is truly a great person .
Oh, wow. Wasn't he also in The Tick sitcom as batmanuel and later in Dark Knight (I think he was the mayor or something, but I always thought that was cool and wondered if that was an homage for the fans or just a really awesome coincidence)? He's great. I haven't seen him in anything in a really long time but I would say I always noticed him in anything he showed up in after The Tick. He's awesome.
Guy is such a great character actor. He's one of those guys who's a bit of a chameleon; you know you've seen him before, but the roles he plays are so varied that sometimes its hard to nail him down. I'd completely forgotten he played Pasquale Acosta in Smokin Aces and had that epic scene in that movie with Ray Liotta where the two of them had the close range shootout. damn, I really wish I could've submitted a question, because I would've loved to hear him talk about shooting that scene (no pun intended) with the late great Ray Liotta.
Ohmygoodness I love Nestor❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thank you!!!
Great episode 🎉
Glad that he happens to give us the opportunity to talk about Smokin' Aces (2006) appropriately during the Dark Knight bit (because movies)
Gawdayum, this was great interview!
Love Nestor ❤️❤❤ Wonderful podcast, as usual 🎉🎉🎉
He was great in Shogun!
Hell yeah!! BATMANUEL is in da house!!! :-) #IStandWithWGASAGAFTRA
Tick fans against corporate greed
Nestor is and always will be Batmanuel, hes great
Great episode.. Rosey, have you seen the glasses for colorblind people? I've watched a few videos of people using them and it's life changing for them... Good luck on the strike and keep up the awesome work!!!
😊 Wow. You have the most interesting guests. As a failing actor myself, it's so interesting to listen to you guys swap stories that are so relatable. I am looking forward to your next interview 👍.
Love Nestor, he's such an exceptional actor and director. He's also a PhD person and beautiful soul 😍😍
Though I am not familiar with this person, he is really inspirational! Makes me want to watch Lost. Very good podcast, Rosey! Can't wait for next week!
He's wonderful on Lost!
The ending of LOST was amazing, a lot of people don't actually understand that they wasn't dead the whole time haha
Amazing guy.
I really enjoy your interviews man, they're unprententious without being dumbed down or dull. Theyre unpolitical and uncontroversial, I mean im sure you have liberal leanings, but I feel like you could have an interesting open converation with anyone sound and interesting, and theyre grounded and touch reality in a genuine real way. I love how youre not looking for zingers or soundbites or even obvious attention grabbing questions just good pleasant conversations on interesting topics with interesting people. Its also cool that theyre not the most famous people but the next tier who I think are probably naturally a bit more open and relatable. And this was a great interview as well.
Love Nestor from Lost, The Dark Knight and Psych. Dude is the man. I love how they addressed his scene in Smokin Aces with Matthew Fox.
You have to watch him in Bates Motel. He played the sheriff who may not have always been on the up-and-up but was a terrific guy and he was awesome in the part!
Did not think it was possible to like this kind, humble, and talented man more than I already do. Thank you so much for this very endearing and uplifting interview. You both are a true inspiration 🙏❤️.
Hey Michael, watching this episode a 2nd time.
Just like Tom Holland and AMH, I love it when you invite my favorite creators on your show, Bro!
very nice
10/10 interview
I love Nestor! One of my favorite roles that he played was Alex Romero. He was so bad ass but calm and cool at the same time. I loved he and Norma's relationship, I was so mad that Norman ruined it.
His wife was BRILLIANT in The Invisible Man
Been a casual fan of his since the Brooke Shields show, didn't realize he was this thoughtful
Hi! What is the book that"s he refere about acting? I can't understand what he said.thanks
Loved him is Psych, but he's been consistantly good in all of the shows he's done.
I was hoping he would mention Batmanuel in The Tick
Batmanuel in the house.
He was good on The Morning Show
Love him lost dark knight and psych
Bates Motel anyone??
The Cuban Anthony Perkins
Nestor will always be BAT-MANUEL!
Huge fan and I don't know if you will see this Micheal but do you remember chainsaw lollipop
Oh, please, oh please let him be talking about playing Batmanuel!
Gunn should hire Néstor as Lex Luthor
His performance on Lost and Psych! And off topic in relation to this video but.. Bring Allison Mack!! Want to hear her side of her twisted crazy story (I dont know if it is possible since her is still in sentence at home and we dont know if her mind changed to something good, but Im cant wait to hear her version of the things on NXIVM topic)
Lost after season 2 blowed. I don’t care what anyone says haha but I’ll forever remember mr. guy-liner 😎
I wonder how Nestor's family built their wealth in Cuba.
Him and Carrie Anne-Moss have made you one degree away from Christopher Nolan!
You got an hour and twenty minutes with Nestor Carbonell, and *no one* mentions "The Tick"?! I don't understand anything anymore... 🤨😵💫😩
It's batmanuel!
My friend Jon…clearly header I’m guessing lol
he should play miami mayor
So is he Steve O's brother or something? when I heard about the whole living in London, American school and father working for Pepsi international that was my first thought.😅
Mayor Eyeliner
It’s still crazy to me seeing Ryan working with Michael, his UA-cam sketch group the warp zone who I grew up on have done endless superhero sketches, so seeing him with the greatest Wally west in our time is still a bit jarring
I enjoyed Lost but I still dont understand what it was all about!
They were all dead and went to Purgatory lol the end episode they departed to Heaven, watch it again haaa
others say the the island was real and they werent dead!@@artscafe9371
Then you didn't watch the final episode... YOU COULDN'T HAVE; they explain it lol They are ALL dead since the start and went to Heaven, don't care what anyone says, thats the plot.
Damn the 1080p has become bad after they introduced that Premium HD stuff... YT's beginning of the end...
Loved him in Lost..but he was AWESOME in Bates Motel!!!
Rosenbaum a liar I saw that interview with him and Conan they did talk about the sketch and he wasn't annoyed by it he just trying to play victim
Mike, get mAT sMITH, ASK HIm AboUT, DoctOR who.
"Indoctrination into marxism"
LOL
I guess you don't know much about Cuba
@@FervAnimalLover I know enough, as I know about the US, and about marxism.
