  • At some point every toy collector has asked themselves this question. Do you have too many toys? Or maybe it was someone else posing the question. In today’s episode, Tom and Dana discuss how many is too many? Does it matter?

I can completely relate with everything that was said about the Derek, and Dana, and I, and our connection through toys. I also relate to what was said about each purchase being a snap shot in time. Both of those things are substantial components of the happiness which emanates from my collection, but I would like to add to that. In one of our spare bedrooms I have my toys, guitars, media collections, and KISS stuff. It's all packed in there, but all of it mindfully displayed and accessible. That room is my fortress of solitude. It's where I write my songs, it's where I read, it's where I listen to music, it's where I go when I'm on the phone with somebody, but most of all, it's where I go when I need a minute. It's where I go when I'm overwhelmed, or distraught. It's where I go to think, and work things out. It's where I go when I don't really know where I'm supposed to be. Every film in my film library, every collectable, every record, compact disc, photograph, and every other idiosyncratic knick-knack was crafted by someone other than me. The room as a whole, is a Single piece of art I created. It's the most interesting and wonderful place I know, and it's mine. I get to go there any time I want. It is not merely a collection. Each piece is a single brick in the construction of my sanctuary.

Thank you for sharing this Dale! That is really cool, I can definitely understand how having those items around you can inspire and even help push your creativity. It's so nice to be able to look around and be surrounded by things and items that bring you joy and allow you to have some peace of mind when everything feels out of whack or when everything feels like it's on fire. Especially when you have items that are a grail of some kind, seeing those and knowing that you put in a lot of time and effort to acquire it, but now it's yours!

@@2guystalkintoys Also worth noting is the fact that so many of the things in that room were gifted to me. This adds another layer of depth to my feelings about it. Hey, there's that cool Iron Maiden EDDIE figure Derek bought me, there's that KISS neon light my mom gave me, there's all those Classified figures Dana got me, there's those Spin Masters figures Mike gave me, and the Boomerang my friend Nikki got me in Australia, and the Toxic Crusaders frisbee Doug bought me on E-Bay!!!! I'm surrounded by love. It's wonderful.

@@2guystalkintoys The lion's share comes from Dana, Derek, Mom, and Mike. Without them, my collection would be significantly less awesome.
