@@MDLuffy1234YT Good question. The short answer is, there are other stories in adventure game speedrunning that I find more interesting for the moment, so I don't know when I'll get to those two. KQ2 has roughly the same story as KQ1. First, people ran it without zips, then ChuckGrody and Lumophile routed in zips. There's lots of RNG. Then SantaClaus (of KQ3 fame) came in, optimized the zips, executed better, and brought the time down a lot. That's basically it. KQ4 is a great game, and the top runners are very skilled. And there are a handful of neat optimizations, but not a lot. Most of the history would just be: "they did it again, but a little faster." I'm currently finishing up a Monkey Island 2 video. There's a ton of neat history, with many twists and turns. Next up after that is Gabriel Knight 20th Anniversary Edition, which uses one glitch with hilarious results.
Glad to see you're finally covering more complex speedruns! Can't imagine how long it took gathering and compiling all of this information and research, not to mention how much you had to have gone through to get all these interviews.
I mean, its not that hard in theory, all you gotta do is find a game that uses a signed INT for the counter then use ACE to overflow it and bam, you gotta -2147483648 Game Unit speedrun.
I'd love to see an any% no cheat vid at some point in the future! I don't even play these old adventure games but the way you cover their Speedrun history is great!

I actually beat the game in negaive time by travelling back in time before it was even programmed yet!
Meanwhile in my Space Quest 2 Speedrunning Attempt it took 15 minutes because I had to dodge a lot of bullets while trying to spell the word cheat, it became it even harder when “follow me unafraid” showed up and I had to bomb a lot. Let’s just say I’m not getting on the leaderboard anytime soon.
Man, as someone who missed out on these games because I was born wayyyyy too late- I love seeing these get more love in our current era. These games defined a genre and made PC gaming a thing and it sucks that not many know that.

There's a bit of meta-cheating going on there. Everything from 10:50 onward was generated by ChatGPT, with some editing. I told it the story I wanted to tell, and to do it in the style of H.P. Lovecraft.
The effort that went into this was just... alright how do I buy that cheating hat? Only three people on Earth will get the reference so I must have to have it. It'll be like when I dressed as that kid from the edutainment game Midnight Rescue for a convention... on forklifts.

I new this video is coming and it was so undersold to me it's insane. I really expected an hour video, where we would have the "cheat" thing in the first minute and then just never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down... for an hour
I mean it would max out at what, 8 frames? Consecutive frames of an identical input will register as a held key unless broken up by a different or blank input. So, 1. ESC, 2. Enter, 3. Nothing, 4. Enter, 5. Nothing, 6. Enter, 7. F3, 8. Enter would be the minimum possible number of frames unless new discoveries are made.
And for all these years of not being able to complete the game, this is what I could have done? I never knew about this special command, amazing what you find out 35 years after the release of a game. :)

Years ago I learned how to use Adventure Game Studio from Space Quest Historian and that sort of set me on my little game-making hobby so I am always delighted and a little nostalgic to see him in these videos.

Then the feeling creeps up that - after 35 years - this is the exciting return of _"CURRENT INSIDE COPY"_ with a new Space Quest expose, but that delight rapidly descends to a *bleeding HP Lovecraft psychological breakdown ambush from the space/time between 8 Bit!* That's an impressive 14 minutes my good man, And you know the perfect Sierra music and clips to build whatever mood you want. Props to RetroTKS also. This channel is a unique delight!

Meaning you failed to 1cc Ergo you failed to solve the incident (it was probably a Mordak Conspiracy or something). Guess you gotta start over again.
I remember one time back in the day I was at a friend's house and got a 3.5" floppy disk stuck in the drive. (The metal shutter had bent slightly loose, catching on the insides of the drive when trying to eject the disk.)
There's nothing quite like stumbling across an April Fools video months later and not figuring it out until you're 10 minutes in. (I mean I knew it was a joke but I kept waiting to see the cheatless run.)
