      Great tour of the island. I love what you guys are up too. Have you tried blue and green water filters on your go pro, it will help with the vividness of the colors while diving. Which model are you using hero4?

    9:05 I sadly didn’t make it to this part of the refuge but may I just say the water quality that day was just remarkable, amazing quality, clarity and color. Still can’t believe it’s in the US and even Florida to be honest the fact that a 22 year old dog is buried there and has his on tombstone drives home how unique this place is.

    Aloha Ryan and Kelsey, came across your video and thought I would let you know I used to be stationed on loggerhead key back in 1985 while i was in the Coast Guard and lived on the island for a year. Yes, Wally was a great dog and friend. Since seeing your video it has given me the idea to write a book about Wally and all our adventures while i was there as I also have a few pictures of him as well. Great job on your videos.

      You'd think so but lithium processing is an incredibly dirty process (in addition to the large amounts of nickel and cobalt also used in battery technology). Therefore its typically mined in Australia (and now Afghanistan since the US invaded and secured mineral rights via military occupation). Its then shipped (via 2 stroke diesel container ship) to China b/c of the lax controls on industry there. Nobody cares how dirty it is to refine since China tends to not mind when holding ponds holding the chemical slurry used to leech the lithium from the ore invariably lose their waste into the nearby waterway. Its then shipped again to be made into cells, then shipped yet again for assembly and then one more time for distribution (all via diesel). While impossible to actually measure, I imagine one could use their current petrol outboard for the rest of their cruising life and emit less pollution than the amount they contributed to the day they decide to "go green" and buy an electric. That said they are pretty awesome in regards to weight and maintenance. Can't beat an electric there.

    Nice waters. If you get up near Key Largo you should anchor near John Pennekamp State Park. Nice coral diving and the statue of Christ underwater. Hint - ALWAY wear a t-shirt when snorkeling in Florida. I learned that the hard way. That dingy motor is quite impressive. Love that it is so light.

    Just a quick note: the oxybenzone in typical sunscreen is an endocrine disrupter that prevents coral reproduction. Try to use sunscreen with zinc oxide instead as the active ingredient!

      Drew Maglio, We actually do use sunscreen that is paraben free, oil free, cruelty-free, Oxybenzone and Octinoxate free and is also 100% vegan and organic. What we put on our skin and how it affects the environment is very important to us.

    Coast Guard Apprentice William Graves lost his live due to a chain saw accident. Was stuck in the leg and cut his femoral artery. Died next to the pier with his dog but his side. We anchored just off the pier that evening. The dog, Wally, lived on the island (key) with the Coast Guard personal stationed there manning he lighthouse. Yes the dog would bark, but was friendly, loved people and the little treats he wasn’t supposed to get.

    Binge watched them all this weekend. :) Thanks for sharing your journey.
    Perhaps it's tiresome hearing advice from your subscribers, but please be careful in that portaboat. We had folks drown on reservoir up hear in Montana when the wind picked up and they had a similar craft. I'm not a fearful person (commercial fished the Pacific for 5 summers). Just don't count on that thing to stay empty of water if the wind suddenly comes up.
    Would love to be living your dream -- and thanks to your sharing I sort of am! Keep dreaming big!

    One other comment: I kinda doubt a 1-1/2 HP dinghy motor will cut it in most circumstances. The Sailing Uma crew have the same dinghy, and in one of their videos they struggle to make headway against a river current using a more powerful motor - I think it was 4 HP.

    Thanks guys great video the electric outboard held up well, how do you recharge? is this with solar or from the engine when motoring? Had a freind how had a tinker inflatable dinghy, this comes with a mast and sails so you can also sail the dinghy. Very cool also good for a trip like this as you can always get back without a long row!

    In case ur not aware ... when snorkeling or just being in the water and u happen apon a jellyfish, fear not. Just steer clear of the long hair-like parts underneath or u can grab them from top squishy part and fling them out of way. They do cause severe pain if stung because those hairs just cling to u everywhere. No need to fear man'o war either, like one floating in vid, u can swim all around them but def do not touch those and have a heathy respect for them. Jellyfish sting will ruin ur dive ... man'o war will ruin ur day!

      Kids can die if stung...adults maybe not unless it was a big one or you have an allergy. Read citation 21 on Wikipedia regarding death. The big ones can pack such a punch that many people have died from their sting. Read to the end of the Venom section on Wikipedia.

    Thanks for the video guys - always look forward to your new stuff. Some armchair quarterback advice: I think you guys are squandering your most marketable assets - yourselves. I think part of the reason Delos and La Vagabond are so huge is because the story is about them, the travel/destinations are just context for their personal story. Also, you guys are hot and in the tropics - put some more skin in the b-roll and watch the coffers fill up!

    • @alastairrobson5234
      @alastairrobson5234 6 років тому +1

      Well I don't know about the last part of your advice, but I totally agree that AC should focus more on themselves and sailing and (this really frustrates me) reduce the long pieces with the fancy music - sorry guys, but I always fast forward through that when it gets too long and boring.

    • @AbandonComfort
      @AbandonComfort  6 років тому +2

      Appreciate the armchair awareness but something pretty much all of our viewers get wrong is we aren’t doing this to become the next SLV or Delos. The way we measure our success of the channel is how many people message or email us saying they’re pursuing their dreams now.

      Awesome KPI and big ups for keeping inspiration your priority! I'd argue my suggestions would help towards your goals too but in the end, you're on the boat and I'm on the couch. • @thatguyryanissocool
      @thatguyryanissocool 6 років тому

      Abandon Comfort yup! going small and going now has never been my MO but the idea behind the huge house bank is to be able to self-contained (even have an RO system to make potable water) so I’m all about the free campsite trip. I’ll be fully electric (no propane) and have gone pretty far down that rabbit hole so let me know if I can help answer any questions if/when you decide to go that route. I got my battery from a manufacturer in FL I’d highly recommend if you want their info.

    7:45 portuguese man o war!!! for heaven´s sake, stay clear of it! the pain of pains is the least it could earn you touching it or its almost invisible up to a hundred feet tentacles, but it could just as well kill you. lesson 1: if something in the sea looks like an unprotected lump of meat, no teeth, no stings, it is at least painfull if not lethal to touch it - otherwise it would have been eaten long ago.

    Nice work guys! Anything you want to share about how the boat is treating you now that your actually cruising? I’d love to hear how your feeling actually cruising off shore vs sitting at the marina..Any surprises or revelation’s yet? Hows the food at the floating cafe? Lol thanks for keeping the content flowing!
