Honestly love how chill they are. It's basically just training for them, and they have pretty good sportsmanship. They'd made pretty good friends if El Fuerte ever shows up again in the future.
They're both wrestlers, one cooks, the other eats to bulk up. The "rival" matches in this game aren't really "rivalries" but comparisons bewteen people with similar or conflicting ideologies.

I find it strange to call these ‘Rivals’ when most of them don’t even know each other.
Diran Jirū yeah the only ones that work really are Ryu and Ken/Akuma, Cody and Guy, Sakura and Dan, and Gokken and Akuma
I mean the trailer did show C. Viper as Chun-Li's rival. Plot-wise, it made sense. Then Juri showed up and Capcom decided to make both Cammy and Chun-Li rivals to Juri.
Rufus has an unexplained grudge/obsession with Ken.
Ryu/Ken, Ryu/Sagat's, Ryu/Akuma, Ryu/Gouken, Adon/Sagat, Abel/Seth, Guile/Dictator, Guy/Cody, and Ryu/Sakura's are given.
Fei Long is kinda famous, which would at LEAST justify Makoto's rival cutscene.
Gen was a friend of Chun-Li's father and I believe Gen trained her at least somewhat.
Chun/Vega got popularized because of the animated movie.
Boxer/Dudley's something that fans were probably wondering since they're both boxers and this is the first game where they're both together.
Fuerte was a new wrestler. It would've made sense for him to rival either Gief or Honda (both of whom are wrestlers of different styles). When Hakan came along, it at least made sense to rival him with another wrestler.
Guy met Rose in Alpha 3. They kinda know each other.
The rest...yeah. No idea.

This is one of my favorite interactions in the game. They've both come a long way from the angry grudge matches they had back in the Alpha days and in SF2. Sagat's moved on from being Bison's muscle, and Ryu is working to overcome his inner demons. They aren't the same men they used to be, and they respect each other for that.
That Ryu facial expression was cool as hell...as if they were friends now doing a lil sparring.

I absolutely adore these cutscenes. On the surface, the people of Street Fighter are violent maniacs that fight at the drop of a hat, but they're not just "people," they're WARRIORS. They say more with their fists than words ever could, and that's what makes them special. Every punch, kick, and energy ball carries behind it the weight of each fighters personal beliefs and ideologies, with some being deeper than others.
I pray Capcom will have a return to form in Street Fighter 6 and focus on characterization like this again, rather than some puffed up, overdramatic story line.
Given the new footage of sf6 your dream may just become reality.

Its just inconsistent that some characters have their native accents like Zangief, Rose, Dudley... but some non-American characters sound completely American like Ryu, Abel, Sagat...

Its not really inconsistent since irl being from a diff country doesnt determine whether youll have an accent or not
Rose has an Eastern European accent, but she's from Italy. It's kinda weird.
Abel got a French accent in SF x T to kinda rectify the lack of a French accent, but since he's probably created in a lab, it's kinda OK.
Ken's and Guile's are fine, since they're ACTUALLY American, but the other ones are just major characters that got big ticket VA's (Ryu - Kyle Hebert, Chun-Li - Laura Bailey, Sagat - Isaac Charles Singleton Jr.).
...no idea why for Sakura and Ibuki, though.

They should do interactions like these in sf6. And them getting along.
You know, in theory rival battles are a really cool feature, but in practice it boils down to:
-chun li trying to arrest people
-"yo dude wanna fight" "mmm okay sure"
-hakan getting his shit beat by SIN members
-HEY YOU'RE FEI LONG
-bison being awesome
And I love it.
The Chun-li ones are mostly good vs evil, but there's emphasis on her relationship with her father. Both she and Juri are orphans who fight because of their lost loved ones, C Viper fights to protect her child rather than avenge them, and Gen is the one who taught Chun-li and is basically her godfather.
The Fei Long ones are about nobodies fighting someone famous, Makoto trying to save her Dojo and earn respect, and while everyone knows who Fei Long is, even Abel has no idea who Abel is.
Hakan is a rich family guy who fights for his own fun and glory, while Seth is a rich monster who fights for power, and C. Viper is a normal person who fights to protect her daughter.
I wish Smash Bros. had these kind of character interaction cutscenes...

I like how Ryu and Gouken already start their fight after a few seconds of seeing each other. Ryu has questions, but he asks them the only way he knows how to.

For those wondering why there aren't any cutscenes for the fighter from the SF4AE to USF4, blame Capcom for being lazy.

OF COURSE SETH WOULD LOOK NORMAL SWAPPING WITH ABEL, because abel literally has some of seth's same DNA, which is exactly the reason abel's eyes become dark when he does his ultra.
Makoto’s one is funny because she stops Fei Long only then to say “Hey! I recognize you” like she didn’t recognize him before and then proceeds to point at him for 2 whole sentences
Is it just me, or was Adon's much more well-made? It was just as short as the others, but I feel the dialogue was much more well-written and mindful to the story and it has an actual fight scene.
Because it actually draws on both characters backgrounds. They only do this rarely in street fighter for anyone other than Ryu and Ken, so it's pretty awesome when they do it with other characters.
