Speckled Trout Faceoff Rough vs Calm Weather in Galveston East Bay
Rainy Fishing Trip - Galveston East Bay
Called up my buddy, Capt Mark Allen (Reel Bolivar Fishing Guide), to see if he wanted to fish through the rain and the dreaded east wind. He was going on a scouting trip so we toughed it out in the early AM. Mainly fished the intracoastal at steep drop-offs next to the north side of the ICW. We fished a lot of other spots in East Bay, and it looks like the bay finally recovered after all the storms we've had this summer. Salinity levels and water clarity is looking better. Fall pattern is definitely starting up.
We fished topwaters, DSL lures, Marker 54 artificial shrimp under a cork and some live shrimp, just to be sure. Caught fish on all of them including:
2 - Oversize Bull Reds
3 - Slot Trout
2 - Solid Flounder
1 - Big Ugly (Black Drum)
Also caught a lot of dink trout. Didn't lose any big fish. The constant rain and nagging east wind, made it a real grind. Glad we caught what we did despite the weather conditions.
