I’m 42, so naturally i don’t have any people in my same age that Iwith BMX, when I go to the skate park so I can go up and down ramps but nothing flashy whatsoever. I have to ask the 14 and 15-year-old son for some tips, and it feels kind of weird but they’re usually very happy to show me some stuff
I like your 4th tip & it's the reason I started to bmx. Been skateboarding for last 2 years & feel like it's good to switch it up to a bike & not get burnout skating all the time. Plus riding BMX feel really boss!!
That's awesome, I like bmx a lot more just because of the air time you can get and the flow of riding a nice bowl or dirt jumps! Glad you liked the tips too!
6. Research different measurements and actually take them seriously. Having a bike that's right for you will help immensely. When I started out, I thought the diff between a 21 inch and 20 inch frame was negligible at best, it isn't. The most important measurements you want to know (in order) are: top tube, chain stay, bar rise, bar width, crank length. If you're 5'9" and you're riding a 21 inch frame with 175mm cranks and a 13.25 CS and your friend the same height is riding a 20.6 inch frame with 170mm cranks, 12.8 CS and cut down bars, don't be surprised if he's learning things like 180s, manuals, feebles, footjam tailwhips, pull-up bars etc faster than you are.
I wish I would have watched this and listened to putting a helmet on like 2 weeks ago I just started riding and tried to drop into a bowl and well I fell 13ft right on my face and had a seizure and fractured my skull and don’t remember 3 days of my life because I didn’t wanna look “uncool”. Keep up this awesome content bro I’m definitely gonna listen to this next time :)
Haven't even begon yet, that would be a great feeling i bet, first landing that! Did you already learned a fakie out or started with the 180 first?? Keep it up!
simon vs thanks man. I felt that learning to roll out of a fakie helped me be able to learn quicker as when I could actually rotate my 180 properly I could roll and do the full thing first time I fully rotated and landed stable
Thank you for your insight, i am just beginning, ride every day for about 20 minutes doing exercises to learn bunny hops, fakie, bike control and confidence building. I am 42, but nonetheless commited, no not to ride as an 20yr old but just to enjoy and to strengten myself, it is tough and if i do more than 2x 20 minutes of biking per day i get really sore knees and wrists but i am trying to get stronger en more relaxed on the bike. Question: for bunny hops, is it best to pull up solely using shifting of weight to the back (bit like a manual) with knees bent so that when the wheel is up you can jump up, straightening your legs and get upword motion? Does the timing need to be that just before you bail out, like can happen with a manual, you use that energy to lift your body up so that the bike also goes up? I cant manage yet, hopefully you can explain to me if i am on the right track with my thought process or that i am totaly wrong, Thanks! Regards, Simon, Netherlands
simon vs try to pull the bars up directly to your waist/chest without moving your body back too much and as soon as your bars are high up push back forward while trying to keep the bars up and that should lift up the back wheel.
I can’t get a new helmet because they are sold out. My only helmet is a single impact downhill mtb helmet, and I have to ride so careful because I don’t have 500$ to replace it. My buddy’s shop got only 1 brand new bmx bike this year. Being a new rider sucks and being an old rider sucks, odd times I guess.
Bmx is really hard... I feel like i can't do any tricks. Always feel like i'm too scared. I'm starting to get good at bunnys and right i'm learning manuals, but doing 180s, fakies and whatever seem unaccessible too me, i lack so much confidence.
Pads that I don't seem to see anyone wearing are elbow pads. I went for my first session just over a week ago, wore my knee pads and helmet, and what do I do... fall straight on my elbow 🤦♀️ hard. Carried on for 3 hours after in a fair amount of discomfort and now I've got a bad sprain so can't ride for at least 3 weeks 😑. Kicking myself about it now because I realised after putting the elbow pads on that they actually weren't uncomfortable so could of avoided a sprain 😂. Had to go for an x-ray just to be sure it wasn't a brake yesterday🙄. Any reason why people don't wear them??? I'm certainly wearing them from now on 😂
Netherlands representing!! I too watch your clips because you are a good teacher, you have a very relaxed attitude and take your time to get your point across, appreciate it man!!!! What is your opinion on doing simple tricks on a wet street ?(lots of rain here in the Netherlands) Non slick tires for instance? Or better to not try manuals etc on a wet pavement? Appreciate your opinion! Thx
Really good video. I have been wondering about things. Sometimes I find that giving a break and letting m,y brain do the math of a certain move helps too. I can come back after 3 days and it just clicks
I hurt my back, fractured my rib and bruised a lung 2 weeks ago. I've been in bed, i can't ride it hurts too much and I have no shoulder strength. I'm buying a chest and back compression protector.
Anytime you are trying a new trick pads keep you progressing all day after crashing over & over instead of worrying about hitting your sore “whatever” you hurt earlier that day. Later after you land the trick, you drop the pads ( not the helmet ) and you feel lighter.

Yeah, it really sucks sometimes when you keep wanting to try a trick more or ride somewhere new, but your body is too beat up and needs a break
He left out the most important part, only ride street and only do kickflips and pullupbars.

I'm going to make a how to bar spin video soon too!
Aird Bmx would be nice if u made one before August 10 or close to that
make a 'trampoline' bike from old crappy parts, that will help you get the feel for doing bars a lot more than a scooter will, trust me.
How often should I ride and for how long
I would say for as long as you are having fun, if you arent having fun then you're not going to want to learn new tricks.
