I worked the alert barn in Keflavik, Iceland and seen F4's and F15's go in less then 5 minutes with no warning. They were very skilled men and very impressive.
I had an opportunity to see both F-16 and F-22 airplanes in 2018-Air Show in US, these men are amazing heros and looked like gods when they completed 30-45 minute aerobatics. Every pilot is a hero and god to me. :)
both 16 and 14 provide technical advantage in specific tasks, while the hornet can do EVERYTHING and EVERYWHERE, you just have to compensate for the lack of speciality, with your own skill and brains. opportunity beats numbers, prove me wrong!

F-16 is by far the best looking jet of all time!!! It screams fast and nimble! The F-16 should have been upgraded for stealth and weapons platforms!. F-18 has 2 engines but can't south maneuver the F-16.

JetMechMA I think if jets are 'scrambled' it'll be a lot quicker... While they are being briefed quickly, others may check the plane and do a walk around, and brief them on maintenance very quickly also... I reckon it could be done in 20-30 minutes.

There are more things to check on an F-18. Not only 2 engines but tailhook and launch bar checks. An F-15 would of been a more fair comparison. But where are the times?
rallyguy132321 16 has a tailhook too. I was a maintainer on F-16s. Also, since that 18 was on ground and not carrier, it would only start one engine, just like a F-15 or an F-16 would.

John Moore this is a test. So as fast as possible. In Belgium if a scramble alarm sounds, they should be airborn in less then 15 minutes. This includes getting to and in the plan, startup and take off. 2 pilots and 2 planes are always on standby.

Please correct your caption. The Hornets are USMC aircraft, NOT USAF. Also, Navy and Marines don't have Crew Chiefs, they are Plane Captains. Those men and women work their asses off for that title, and deserve the respect of it being noted, not lumped in with someone else.

Keep in mind the F-18 is actually the same F-17 that lost in competition to the F-16 USAF. The F-16 is far superior, and the Navy wanted it too, but the Navy can't buy a single engine fighter… thus the F-17 came back as the F-18, and replaced the F-14.
All fun-ness aside for a minute, this is what it would be like if we were attacked. So as fun as they are making it, scrambles are incredibly necessary practice for the real thing.

I was a navy f/a18 plane captain, jet mechanic from 90-96. Alot of good changes but still embarrassing having to wear that dang cranial....lol
The F-16 crews looked like they where faster then the F/A 18 crews.

John Moore this is a test. So as fast as possible. In Belgium if a scramble alarm sounds, they should be airborn in less then 15 minutes. This includes getting to and in the plan, startup and take off. 2 pilots and 2 planes are always on standby.

Please correct your caption. The Hornets are USMC aircraft, NOT USAF. Also, Navy and Marines don't have Crew Chiefs, they are Plane Captains. Those men and women work their asses off for that title, and deserve the respect of it being noted, not lumped in with someone else.

We each work hard for our titles and should be afforded the respect to be referred to as such. Not mad... just sayin. :-)

The F16s have an unfair advantage, starting up a single jet engine is much quicker than twin engines. It should have been F18s vs F15s.

Keep in mind the F-18 is actually the same F-17 that lost in competition to the F-16 USAF. The F-16 is far superior, and the Navy wanted it too, but the Navy can't buy a single engine fighter… thus the F-17 came back as the F-18, and replaced the F-14.
