That fireplace was part of someone’s actual living room a hundred years ago! Make sure the landlord fixes the hole in the wall or gives you 3 months free rental to fix the hole, check out the fire place, remove all layers of paint, an electrical safety check and finally redecrate the place. What I do LOVE about your videos is that you give a brief glimpse of the neighbourhood around the apartment which extremely helpful especially if you're new to NYC.

Disclaimer-New Yorker here and I have lived in N.Y.C. studios for most of my adult life. This is not the worst apartment. The windows need to be cleaned but they are actually quite charming. The hole definitely needs to be fixed. If you put a rectangular table bar height right by the kitchen and two stools on the opposite end, it could function as counter space and a table. You can get a couch that folds out into a bed and put it opposite the first place. T.V. above the fireplace like Cashew said. Overall, not bad for one person, but $1950 is still a lot for pandemic times. So, ask for a month free, ask for the hole of the fixed, cleaned windows, and I think it is doable.

I got your dropleaf table right here, and raise you a futon. But giving up my wall length under-stair closet would be a hardship. I love NYC. My glitch, from experience, is that living in a beautiful city is not as beautiful when you spend all your money on rent and cannot afford to enjoy the food or plays, galleries, museums and musicals. Now I'm back to living affordably in a small town. Loving the grass and trees and no bars at me windows. Its cool. :)

@@DailyRants89 Yeah, absolutely, many of the same amenities are available elsewhere, and, thanks to the internet and modern communications, remote work has become practicable for many professions so you aren't necessarily forced to live only in a few large urban centers for many jobs. The cost of living is much lower, taxes are lower, crime may be lower, living spaces are larger on average and you aren't living in one of the most crowded cities in the world. Also, my wife and I both have new vehicles and don't have to bother with nasty public transportation with possible crazies or criminals on board. How often do most people go to the museum or go see a Broadway play? You can do those things on vacation & about as often as you would have anyway. What else do New Yorkers go on about? The restaurants? They can be very expensive there, and, again, if you live in an urban center or suburbs, you probably have a good range of cuisines available now. I can drive twenty minutes and get good Vietnamese, Lebanese or Venezuelan food, and I am not living somewhere super trendy. LOL

@@julianhermanubis6800 The remote working thing definitely makes a big difference, I like living in big cities because I feel like I can always find another job pretty easily if I need to. I like to look at real estate listings in cheaper places with better weather but that would mean moving somewhere where I have no friends or support system, my family is in Boston which has become almost as expensive. Plus a lot of the things you list as negatives are things I enjoy, I like the subway, and I mostly like crowds, apart from Times Square and Canal St.

    • @julianhermanubis6800

@@BCThunderthud Before the rise of telecommuting/remote work, having access to the job markets of the larger metro areas would've definitely been a strong selling point. Until I settled down a few years ago, I'd moved a lot, so the support network aspect wasn't a factor for me, besides friends in those locations. But, now, my last two jobs (covering eight years' time) have been remote. Pre-COVID, there were some employers who did want you in their area, but, post-COVID, it looks like even that has shifted. If you like public transportation, then that would be a selling point, but, personally, I hate it, at least in the U.S. I've seen some public transportation systems I did like, but they were all abroad, like National Rail and its subsidiaries in Britain (at least, the intercity trains, but the in-city services can be about as bad as American ones). And I'm done with crowds. Where I live, I am fortunate enough to have a lot of wildlife plus some reasonably dark night skies, and I definitely prefer having a red fox come sit down a few feet away from me to having loud drunks clamoring near my property nights. I do travel a lot, so I can get my city fix while on the road, but I then get to leave.

What I’d do, as an architecture student is, to the right of the fireplace, put a desk set up. Probably a combo unit with storage on top. In front of the FP a nice futon, so you can sleep there, without having your bed having to be seen. In front a small table with storage, for your bedding. To the left of that a two-person slim table with the option of a fold-up leaf so you can fit four. On the opposite wall put a storage island, a place to put a microwave or another appliance, and see if the land lord is trying to put an outlet in that hole in the wall. In the closest space, take out the second bar, so you can fit a drawer chest. In the bathroom, fix the storage on top. Can fit TP and paper product up to there, also it looked like that was some more space to put a small wire rack next to the sink for other stuff. A small and old space, but the location is what's great about it.

I appreciate that you always look for a dishwasher & a sprayer in the kitchen.
    I live in a 2-bedroom apt. It doesn't have a dishwasher or a sprayer.
There are portable dishwashers that can sit on your countertop, or you can put it on a rolling cart for example or table as long as you can hook the hoses to the faucet.
I got a countertop dishwasher & I love it. The only complaint is I wish I had got the bigger rolling stand-alone dishwasher because it will hold more dishes. But the dishwasher I got does an excellent job of cleaning dishes. It's easy to hook to the faucet & I love it. I will get a bigger one in the future though.
As for the sprayer, there is a sprayer that screws into the faucet head & it is cheap. You can find them at a hardware store like Lowes or Home Depot. I got mine at Lowes. It is pretty neat. It will spray my whole sink. It can either pour water or spray it. Cost around $4. Changed my life!!! Nah but it has helped greatly.
