Most all of the Drumeo videos have drummers listening through the song, making notes/charts, having multiple passes...but this video with Chad Smith was something special - he jumped right in and was awesome! Great reaction!
and now because of Chad any drummer that has came on after has made a comment either "I'm doing it like Chad" or "I'm not gunna do it like Chad did." lol He slightly changed the format for some of the drummers without even trying to.
You really think a musician.... That listens to multiple different types of music daily never heard this song before? I'm sorry to burst your bubble but I can guarantee he has heard this song on the radio before. Stop being a simp. Dude is a joke
I think this is the same kind of pop/rock song structure that ALL such bands understand. It's super intuitive, but then you get to see the more dramatic stylistic flourishes different musicians make (or don't).
Drumeo does quite a few of these videos and they are all amazing. The ones with the drummer from Megadeth doing Paramore and The Killers are on the top of the list to see.
I'm old. 55. And I remember his debut with RHCP on Mother's Milk. He killed it. It was an amazing addition to such a great band that suffered some tragedies early in their career.
For me, the most impressive part is at 9:25 . The guitar is building, probably a breakdown or the chorus is to follow and he's about to hit the crash, but stops midair. This guy is the drum goat. Edit: You probably will also enjoy Dirk Verbeurens attempt on Mr. Brightside. Also a banger video from this series
What strikes me in these drumming challenges is that drum kits are so different. (I don’t play drums.) The way they play for certain songs is not only dependent on how you’ve been trained but also what your drum kit is. Chad is so clearly an experienced and intuitive musician.
I second the Dirk Verburen (Megadeath drummer) videos. He's just a really funny, upbeat guy, but he's also REALLY talented and good at coming up with drum tracks for songs. He has 2 videos with Drumeo. One of them for Mr. Brightside by The Killers, and then a song by Paramore. Both are great videos of another craftsman getting to work their skill and talen.
You gotta show her Dirk's (Megadeth Drummer) episode where he learns Mr. Brightside or Paramore! Or if you wanna go the other way round, Domino's episode, where she figures out a metal song as a pop drummer.
He is a genius level drummer. Some snobs dis him but it makes no sense. He is a master of this instrument. These artists make life so much better. We need to celebrate them. Not worry about the money they earn but celebrate the joy they bring.
The series is also of other drummers listening to drum less tracks. But usually they listen to the whole song and takes notes, Chad is just a giga chad and couldn't give a shit and just jumped straight into it jamming style.
this was such fun! Very good choice, Rocky !! ❤&🤗 🥁 If you're both such drum aficionados then I think you'll enjoy the "Talk Talk" tracks I recommended. Their drummer (Lee Harris) reminded my of the Animal from the Muppets Show the first time I saw them live back in the days.
It's a returning concept of them. And yes they all have to do the same. And it's not just drums. The same studio has also a Keyboard channel. Pianote One of my favorites is: Jordan Rudess Hears Alicia Keys for the FIRST TIME! Same concept, musician hears it for the first time, and has to play along with it. Both channels have many of these video's.
They've done a few more videos likes this, though not a ton so far. This was probably my favorite one so far, but they're all interesting to watch. Blue man group doing MCR feels a bit rehearsed, but I wasn't mad at it because it was so much fun overall.
I found your channel because of your Pete & Bas reactions and ended up subscribing because Rocky and I are essentially the same person! lol. Even down to mimicking hand gestures! It's crazy! Definitely going to tune in more! Sending tons of love from NYC
Yes, there are other amazing drumming videos including the First Interview with II from Sleep Token. It's an hour long and fukn emotional for some of us musicians lol.
I'll also make another suggestion of a very recent band that I would love to see more reactions too. Long Island Hardcore is having a big resurgence right now and the band "Koyo" are my current favorite. LIHC is a bit more emo tinged than NYHC so I actually think you'd really dig the band. They just released a brand new single and music video called "Mile A minute."
Stix and cakes ‼️💯🖤.is it chad or is it will 😆the lack of fear is why he’s a rockstar.its an entire channel of exactly that type of stuff. Chad vs Will is a thing they were on the tonight show
Ow I may have an "Emo" band for you. They were really popular here. there is a English and a German version of the song. Tokio Hotel. If you already know the band and the song: Monsoon, Then there is still the German version, Durch Den Monsun. It's not really the music I listened to often back then. But I like this song. In those times I was more listening to VNV Nation, "Beloved" is still a favorite of my. Then there is the band Qntal With the song, "Entre moi et mon amin." Don't know if these songs can be called Emo in the US. But here in the Netherlands they were part of the Emo scene. Lets say, it was never really a form of music here. It was more a way to be, and it brought with it some sort of music. Most of the time sad songs, not gonna lie. 😅
He's not a million miles away from that type of music and he knows it. You see at any change he kind of finds a middle ground to hear what's next. I think most rockers know an interlude/solo etc is comin
Right! The song structure is super intuitive when you're used to it. I've also had directors swear Mozart is super intuitive once you know a little because the classics usually follow their own rules. Or, as we also learned, one must learn the rules of the [blank] so they can break them creatively.
Ok, let's get weird with it...if you want me to, I can give you guys a list of incredibly amazing songs/artists to react to that nearly nobody else does reactions for...I'll start you off with a groovy/bluesy song from my favorite cult, The Black Slug by Church Of The Cosmic Skull...and I've got a TON more where that came from...
Love how your appreciation for music shines through, so obvious that you felt EXACTLY the same way as I was when I first heard this masterpiece. I'd also recommend you to check Dirk Verbeuren doing this same thing with Mr. Brightside, another epic performance on Drumeo :) ua-cam.com/video/tbUYVcaF_l0/v-deo.html& He made the song so much better than the original :) BTW, you asked how can he possibly know what's next - if you watch closely, you'll see how he missed a couple of first bars after the part switch, but he adapts insanely fast. Geniuls.
1 min and 17 seconds and I'm laughing! 😂. I've seen a few of these drumming videos before! YAY? Gotta say that in this case they didn't really push him to much out of his comfort zone? There's the female drummer from the Warning? They really pushed her limits? Did better than OK. I don't pretend to know much about drumming and drummers but Keith Moon the Loon from the Who was so out there it was the bass player, The Ox, who actually held the band together. Animal from the Muppets was allegedly based on Moon? No wonder he's my favourite Muppet? I also loved felt sorry for Beaker though.
Speaking of Emo... I can't not suggest Midwest Emo. The "real" emo haha. Quintessential band that pretty much kicked the whole scene off is 'American Football' and their first 3 LPs. Song Suggestion - Never Meant. Need a suggestion for a bunch of videos that could bring in a new community and such? Beatboxing; their community is super massive and supportive! I suggest a "produced song and video" with some of the scenes legends for a quick intro. - 'Hiss, Alexinho, Colaps, River' - If only (Official Video)'
The fact that he got it first take is impressive. Especially knowing when to pull back. But let's be honest. He wasn't reacting to an experimental jazz song. 30 seconds to mars is about as basic as you can get.
You reaction is one of the best I saw...not only because you love this song but also because you catched so many crazy parts about this performance edit. I'm watching this again...I just enjoy this so I'm subscribing.
Please don't use "were just girls" as an excuse. Being a girl, or a woman (which is what you are) is not a handicap. If you don't have your shit together using software - LEARN! Or pay someone to do it for you. Or say: "It may look wonky because we don't know how to do it right yet, but at least the sound matches and that's the most important thing. But NEVER throw your arms up and try to use your sex as an excuse. I'm raising a teenage girl and I don't want her to adopt this sorry attitude.

Absolutely! LOVE his Mr. Brightside. Totally worth your time to listen to.
There's a great video of a Jazz band hears Nirvana for the first time. Cool to see this concept with an entire band.
I'm old.

And Dirk's version of misery business. And Chad's version of bring me the horizon.
9:09 is even more impressive to me. He caught it mid fill and adjusted when he heard at best one bar the tempo change.
What strikes me in these drumming challenges is that drum kits are so different. (I don’t play drums.) The way they play for certain songs is not only dependent on how you’ve been trained but also what your drum kit is. Chad is so clearly an experienced and intuitive musician.
You guys should check out that Drumeo vid with Domino doing Slipknot...its amazing because of her pop punk background❤
Domino Santantonio doing MASTODON is badass !
To me, this is a big honor to Shannon Leto that what he did with the actual song was perfect for the song.
He the goat Top 5 drummer all time
Him with the dua lipa track is a fun video
Yes. It's a Drumeo series. I anticipate your future reactions to Dirk Verburen and his takes
I second the Dirk Verburen (Megadeath drummer) videos. He's just a really funny, upbeat guy, but he's also REALLY talented and good at coming up with drum tracks for songs. chad is an icon
There are quite a few drumio videos of Sleep Tokens drummer II. He even git drumio drummer of the year last year. Loved this reaction. ❤😊
Neeeed to check this out ASAP
He is a genius level drummer. Some snobs dis him but it makes no sense. He is a master of this instrument. These artists make life so much better. We need to celebrate them. Not worry about the money they earn but celebrate the joy they bring.

The chad smith bring me the horizon video is very fun, as is megadeth drummer hearing mr brightside. As well as Domino doing slipknot!!
Chad is the music
this was such fun! Very good choice, Rocky !! ❤&🤗 🥁
If you're both such drum aficionados then I think you'll enjoy the "Talk Talk" tracks I recommended. Their drummer (Lee Harris) reminded my of the Animal from the Muppets Show the first time I saw them live back in the days.
That reaction was great....gotta admit it......sooooooooo good.

Gotta react to Chad Smith doing bring me the horizon on drumeo to 😊❤
that's why he is who he is lol yeah!
They've done a few more videos likes this, though not a ton so far. This was probably my favorite one so far, but they're all interesting to watch. Blue man group doing MCR feels a bit rehearsed, but I wasn't mad at it because it was so much fun overall.

hand gestures for lifeeee 🙌🤭🖤
12:22 No. He knew 100% that the song was ending/over. He threw this section in entirely for comedic reasons 😊
Yes, there are other amazing drumming videos including the First Interview with II from Sleep Token. It's an hour long and fukn emotional for some of us musicians lol.
OMG I need to see this!!
I'll also make another suggestion of a very recent band that I would love to see more reactions too. Your broken hero - a letter to ashley
A UA-camr living out his dream and bringing emo back
Stix and cakes ‼️💯🖤.is it chad or is it will 😆the lack of fear is why he’s a rockstar.its an entire channel of exactly that type of stuff. Chad vs Will is a thing they were on the tonight show
It’s more “melodic hardcore” than emo, but the song “Analog” by Strung Out. Fairly underground in the punk scene and still making music today.
Oh god, if you're gonna do drumeo videos, I'm dying to see you two react to the Megadeath drummer doing Mr. Brightside!
My friend's brother has a band he plays in. The Nearly Deads. "Never Look Back". Give that a listen. I think you would like them.
Liked and Subbed! :) Just because of this video lol
9! 😂😂😂😂 I love you 🖤🖤🖤🖤

Check out the Larnell Lewis ones....
Chad: "Oh it's in 3" My nerdy ass: "Oh that shit can't be 3/4, lemme see it's in 6/8" *nods* Can confirm, thanks to my sheet music sub.

They have whole series with drummers hearing the first time song
But most of them listen to the song first
Have y'all seen the Danny Carey drum cam video for Tool - Pneuma? It is another great drum video.
Will definitely be checking this out - Danny Carey is one of the greatest drummers of all time..🖤 - Roc
The video he play a song of Dua Lipa is good too.
1 min and 17 seconds and I'm laughing! 😂.

Chad did another one on Drumeo Bring me the horizon
Google Chad Smith Will Ferrell drum off. You're welcome 😀
The fact that he got it first take is impressive. Especially knowing when to pull back.
But let's be honest. He wasn't reacting to an experimental jazz song. 30 seconds to mars is about as basic as you can get.
Check out drumeo Domino Santantonio- Mastodon Steambreather. I think it's better than this one, much more complicated to learn
please, stop leading the other girls reaction. CMON
You reaction is one of the best I saw...not only because you love this song but also because you catched so many crazy parts about this performance
edit. I'm watching this again...I just enjoy this so I'm subscribing.
Go check his Bring Me The Horizon he did!! Better than the original!!!
