Like I said in the pinned comment of the previous vidya, I'm doing AI thumbnails for all of these because I find the contrast between the plastic AI hyperpolish and the retro pixel graphics terribly amusing, and in fact it reminds me of the bait and switch back then of game box art vs. the actual game.
Having tried Barbuta once and then watching this video I went back at it again learning some important things: - the falling blocks at the beginning are caused by a trap on the floor (you can hear it click) - the terrible skull that appears happens when the red dot on the map is also on your dot on the map - this is a terrible game but with patience can be solved like a puzzle, slowly but surely
@@coffeedude this was a big genre on Amiga. A lot of good ones there. Not sure the genre name but my favorite was Rick Dangerous, there's also a newer game called Lala Prologue that's very good.
I had a lot of fun with this one. I got out my graph paper and worked through it. It is ultra obtuse and yeah, the movement is painfully slow but it just felt like I was playing some games on the Commodore 64 in my youth. Like going back to a simpler time. Probably my only real gripe is that the bats and the mushrooms are ultra OP.
@@ElBlargho it definitely can be, but it’s also extremely satisfying when you figure things out. I understand if it’s not for you, but if you record it, I’ll definitely watch it.
Well done on getting through this game, but it's a special case - one of those where we want to keep the old style of mapping out and retrying. It's part of the Barbuta experience. Mr. Yu and his team have done it again.
I enjoyed getting the cherry disk on this one. I would have gotten it on my first clear even, had i made just one less mistake. But once you know the route to clear the game fast its not too bad to do.
I don't like how this game is unplayable on purpose, and the scraps of immersion you get from that stylistic choice are taken away once you see bats move much faster
Well, I'm overwhelmed in a bad way by this game. This game is obviously shitty. But what's even stranger is that this is intended for sure. Developers of this is clearly competent, with deep understanding of classic game design. I'm wondering, why developers doing such a prank? Well, it's matching with meta-narrative as first game made by a rookie amateur. But do you want to immediately scare off your audience with such antics? It's really qurious...
I don't think they intended to scare anyone. Games where presented in chronological order and just because it's a first game in the series of fictional developer it doesn't mean it's needs to be the first to be played. Everyone just playing what they like.
It's really cryptic and I think it's intentional. I would have never figured it out. And it's not all. There is not even a hint of feedback when you damage an enemy. I have seen people hit the mushrooms a couple times and conclude that they are invincible.
it's very sad to see such a good artist using ai generated thumbnails..

Interesting to see all the negative reactions to Barbuta, as this is the kind of game I love.
Got some recs?

I really would've been 100% into it if the whole game was sped up to 1.5 speed, it's kind of a real shame
@@theOfficial476 Thanks!

Watching this makes me want to watch you play la mulana. Honestly can’t believe that hasn’t happened yet.
I bounced off La Mulana real hard many years ago when I tried it. I remember feeling like the game was like work to figure out :-/

YES it's barbarbugo
Let's be real. I've played a ton of spelunky, so have most of us. Derek's target audience is masochists. Barbuta is perfect LOL
Broooo i remember Barbuta back in the 80s i didn't like the price but the game was pretty lengthy so it was well worth it to pick it up
If we count our collective viewership as ad revenue does that total up to the $20?
🧠
The good about watching this game is that I can put the video on 2x speed 😂😂😂😂
Playing barbuta is a miserable experience

The knight moves way too slow to be enjoyable. What a shame.
bro i played all of it without spoilers i am crying that i managed to do it
I wonder if there's any sort of achievement for completing all the games. That being said, I could live without ever seeing this one again.
Considering how much money in total we threw at you, you should beat BARBUTA like at least 30 times. ONLY PAIN AND SUFFERING FOR OUR GOD DEREK!
You raise a valid point :-/
I don't get how anyone could think moving that slow would be a good idea.
BARBUTA
It is great
This looks like it plays worse than Zelda 2, that's an achievement.
El Blargho do a SPELUNKY 2 101 Shopkeepers plz \('v')/
Sounds like a plan, will do!

Because the game is actually quite fun and satisfying and with 50 games they can afford to have one that doesnt appeal to everyone
Skill issue

i feel the reasoning between this is the same reasoning behind a lot of the choices spelunky makes: because it's funny
10:42 i hate that he only tried to push the push blocks from the wrong side. tbf i had to look it up and it's not very obvious
