Honestly, 1) Nice little Clock Tower: The First Fear references (The "bad ending" with the car is very similar to Clock Tower, complete with little panicked eye in the mirror), 2) nice touch that they made your cursor shake when you're running from the killer. I thought this was gonna be like Cursed or the older games like Uninvited or Deja Vu, but it's like if Clock Tower was a NES game.
There is an actual new sequel to ShadowGate that recently released. The music and graphics are in the 8 bit style. Fun playthrough if you love the original NES game.
I remember playing this at a PAX demo years ago. Obviously an early build, but what was very funny was I hit a bug where I picked up the corpse in the pool and had it in my inventory. It's great to finally see the finished game!
Thank you for this... the funny thing is I didn't see the thing I was stuck on for the bad ending delivered, I just finally saw what was in front of my face the whole time.
@@CrankyTemplar Ooh, that's a tough question. Mostly because there's so many good games in UFO 50! But if I have to say which games that I like the most out of all 50 games, I have a list for that so far, consider it a top 15 games in no particular orders: Ninpek, Mortol 2 (I like the first game too but the game pace is a lot slower there), Golfaria, Pingolf, Night Manor, Warptank, Caramel Caramel, Vainger, Valbrace, Grimstone, Elfazar's Hat, Mini & Max, Cyber Owl and Seaside Drive. That's all of it
@@CrankyTemplar Also, I'm aware that you also covered Valbrace on your channel as well as this Night Manor game, which both I love very much. If you need a recommendation for another game to cover from UFO 50, I'd probably say Mini & Max. Although to be honest, I only bought UFO 50 yesterday and haven't played any of the games there to completion yet
Thanks for the suggestion! I've tried a few casually but haven't really found one I want to focus to completion (I have tried Valgress and Warptank a bit but haven't been super hooked) so I'll check out Mini & Max too.
@@CrankyTemplar Thank you so much for considering it! I don't know what's the end goal for Mini & Max just yet, but I definitely would love watching you play it. Also, you earned my sub already, man
The story is of a man who starts writing in a journal and drinking a special tea his doctor gives him. The tea is made from some kind of fungus and starts making the family sick but the man keeps drinking it and eventually everyone else dies and he loses his mind, with the last journal entry being gibberish, like the Itchy Tasty message from the first Resident Evil.
@@TyeNee Weird choice to have you play as Leda Eisenhower, a rookie cop on her first day at the Possum City Police Department, but I really liked her arc over the course of the game!
I tried smashing the car windows with the crowbar and that didn’t work, so I got stuck whenever smashing something with the crowbar was required. Really great game tho.
The opening moments of the game are pretty much taken from The Uninvited. It says the last thing you remember before the car crash and blacking out that starts the game was a shadowy figure standing in the middle of the road, which is what happens here.
lmao had to look at this video for a guide cause I was stuck at the end of the game looking for how to get the item out of the sink. Of course it was the tweezers right above it.
@@TyeNee Awesome, good luck with it! Once things click and you have the feel for fighting each monster it does seem maybe a little too many monsters spawn but it was overall a really well-done game.
Having to use the piano wire at the end really messed with me after trying to use it on everything else in the game. I really thought I needed to find a fuse for the fusebox.
I think at the end of my first play I didn't have much else besides the wire and was looking for it's time to shine after carrying it for so long. It was kind of the same with the magnifying glass and the password but it took me ages to see where to use it and was more from sheer dumb luck of checking everything.
There are, but some of it is also experimenting with variant death text. I'm not sure I'll find all of those but there are a plenty of ways to meet a terrible end.
using the crowbar in order to get the egg was where i got annoyed and gave up, dont see how i would have figured out cutting up the doll or using the crowbar in the mirror either
Hey CrankyTemplar, do you plan on doing beyond shadowgate the full game? You did the demo about a year or 2 ago and the full game just released this morning at 10:00AM and I think you might like the game since you did enjoy the Macventure series and the different ways the protagonists can die in them, like I imagine you might even show off the many ways Del Cottonwood can be killed if you do Beyond Shadowgate videos.
I'm playing through the game right now and will be trying to get a deaths and endings video up for it. I may upload a playthrough after I finish the first time so that I can have things a good bit more optimized (like with this upload).
I've finished with three out of four endings and will have some more stuff to experiment with death-wise but it's definitely good if you want a Shadowgate sequel.

small correction but the cursor shaking when the killer shows up is actually the game doing that, still cool effect though
I wish there were more new games like this. Definitely inspired by Uninvited.
have you heard of the "cursed" series of games? there's 3 of them, although the first one is showing it's age. they are free on steam
Just wait a couple weeks for clock tower rewind 😊

Now I'm picturing just throwing the corpse at the killer and running.
A mix between DéjàVu/Uninvited/Clock Tower. Good thing the genre "point and click" game made his come back.
I REALLY wish there were more games like this -I even liked how they handled the "gacked by the stalker" situation.
Thank you for this... the funny thing is I didn't see the thing I was stuck on for the bad ending delivered, I just finally saw what was in front of my face the whole time.
No problem, hopefully you were able to finish!
Reminds me of Personal Nightmare and Waxworks. Two Horrorsoft games I played on the Amiga back in the day.
Such a great game for a great collection. Love it so much, and love your direct playthrough too

Same! The two solutions i had to seek out help were both crowbar vs glass lol; you're not alone there

I actually missed the tweezers for a while on my first play. I should have realized that was a medicine cabinet and not just a mirror.
Thanks for sharing this gem with us 💎

It's a combination of hints and explaining the story that led to the infestation and deaths of his family.
