    The Portland, Oregon, rockers rolled into Nashville, and before their show at the Exit/In, guitarists Bryan Giles and David Sullivan, along with bassist Aaron Beam, spoke with PG’s Perry Bean about how a lot of their gear decisions have two common factors: Delta and keeping up with hard-hitting drummer John Sherman.
    In a 2016 interview with PG, and for most of Bryan Giles guitar-playing life in Red Fang, he was seen with a heavily-modified 5-string Fender Mustang from the mid ’60s. That all changed when the band did a quick jaunt over to Europe for a few festival dates and Delta misplaced Giles’ guitars and ultimately shipped them back to the band’s HQ in Oregon. Giles, being the true professional, used his bandmate David Sullivan’s backup-the Nik Huber Krautster II you see above-and it’s been his main jammer ever since. Still not using the high-E string, Giles uses Dunlop Heavy Core strings (.014-.049) and Dunlop Tortex 1mm picks.
    David Sullivan was an early rider on the Nik Huber bandwagon and his main hog right now is this single-pickup Krautster. The pickup is a Häussel VIN+ B A5 Bridge model. And like his 6-string bandmate, he uses Dunlop Heavy Core strings (but are gauged .010-.048) and Dunlop Tortex picks (.73 mm).
    Bassist Aaron Beam gets all his work done with this 1986 G&L SB-1. He generally uses any brand strings that are gauged .045-.105.

    Just been to their show. I must admit it was one of the strongest shows ever seen, you can clearly hear that they are professionals. Also, one of the most down to earth guys. We spoke after the show about the gear, etc. All hail RED FANG. If they are ever touring in your city DO NOT MISS IT.

    That is SO FUNNY that Bryan talks about that Bassman 50! I got that amp for him for $75 in about 1988! We were playing in a band called Haus in Tucson, Arizona! I got that amp from Bill Cuevas, who played guitar in the U.S. (Tucson) band, Conflict. I really wanted the amp for myself, but I didn't have 75 fuckin' dollars, so I got Bryan to buy it! At least it was in my band, and I ended up with a Marshall 2204, instead! We sounded pretty good, for a couple of kids!

    I bought a Nik Huber because I loved the look and sound of it. Didnt know red fang used them. I had just bought a Gibson CS junior and frankly it was a $1000 guitar with $3000 namebrand. The one I got was just bad; bad wood, bad pickup, and bad fit and finish. So I bought the Nik Huber krautster II because its very junior-esqe. I can't say enough good things about it. And it cost less than the Gibson.

    • @drpibisback7680
      @drpibisback7680 3 роки тому +2

      Distortion tends to eat low frequencies. That's why most bass distortion pedals have a blend knob for the clean signal, so you can add some of the lows back. It's those low frequencies that blow guitar cabinets when they're used with basses. The Beta Bass, despite the name, is a guitar amp with distortion voiced for a guitar. The gain channel on that will reduce the low frequencies to the point it's not dangerous for the speakers.
