Too much of a good thing can also be bad. It's just a bit unusual for King to stick with one character over several stories, outside of the Dark Tower. But hey, more power to him for changing things up, I guess.
I agree that Holly is a wonderful character. In fact, I tend to enjoy each new book featuring her more than the one before it. But after so many books set in her world, things are starting to feel a bit stale.
What I find compelling about Holly Gibney is the fact that if she hadn't met Bill Hodges, she most likely would have remained a broken person constantly under her mother's thumb. Her character arc in the trilogy was very satisfying. "The Outsider" was OK, but I thought "Holly" just average. Here's hoping for a strong comeback in "Never Flinch"!
I wish King would create an anti-hero like Tom Ripley. I know King is a good vs evil kind of guy, I respect it, but he’s just so good with villains. Would be great to see him blur the lines a little bit. Also I’m gonna buy you the leather-bound limited edition Holly Gibney box set whenever it comes out 😂
I'm sort of sad to say this but my heart sank when I heard Holly Gibney there. I don't hate her, I don't love her. But I don't think the world needs another Holly novel. Sigh. I love the guy though, so I will buy it and I will read it, like the dutiful Constant Reader I am.
Dave, do you have a link to the Amazon post please, can't seem to find it. Also Lilja’s library doesn't have the news post, so do you have the link to that too. Thanks. 👍🏼
So both of them got taken down between me recording the video and posting it - I think I added a note to that effect in the description. But King has since retweeted the ClubStephenKing post so it’s official. Nothing back on Amazon yet though
Im so excited for this.. I relate to Holly a lot. Being neurodivergent myself it makes me feel like I can do anything if i put my mind to it, just like Holly. I do prefer his fantasy/sci Fi a lot more though. I finished Under The Dome today and wow! That was crazy. I have 14 novels left and then ive read every novel King has ever wrote. Long days and pleasant nights constant reader!
Upon reading this news, an image popped into my mind that I simply cannot shake and, therefore, must share with others : An unshaven and haggardly sleep-deprived Stephen King, wearing his blue chambray shirt, rigidly seated in front of an old-fashioned typewriter, grinning maniacally at a finished page that reads only... Holly Gibney Holly Gibney Holly Gibney Holly Gibney Holly Gibney (...ad infinitum...)
@MarinaMacca-i2t you only bothered me in the sense that the information you were looking was not only mentioned multiple times in my video but was also written in the video description, so even if you were ‘tired of listening to me’ you still could have found it very easily. But if you’d rather be rude about it that’s your choice 🤷🏻♂️
It should have been Kate McCall! Beverly's grown up feminist friend from IT. She gets beat by Tom. What a better way for her to be a strong feminist figure. Also connecting to old books lol she would have to be aged up a bit. 😅
That’s an interesting shout, although I think in the Mercedes/Holly world Stephen King exists as a point of pip culture - Holly loves the Shawshank Redemption if I remember correctly - so that would all get a bit mixed up
Stephen King should be embarrassed. This Holly Gibney/Bill Hodges schlock was played out three novels ago. My excitement at a new King novel turned to disgust even before that. Here's an idea, Mr. King...write about an author who constantly turns out multiple variations on the exact same theme...with each one, more and more of his soul and talent are stolen by the main character - a demoness disguised as a quirky secretary who plans to enslave both author and constant readers in a neverending creative wasteland... Consider it your autobiography.
Honestly, I don't see why people dislike Holly. I think shes a nuanced and compelling character. I'm excited.😁
I’m glad she’s clicked for you. I’m just so bored of her 😬

Agree. Looking forward to reading it.
Excited? No, dear. You've got literary Stockholm Syndrome.
I’m excited for more HOLLY! Enjoyed her in Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers. Currently reading HOLLY!! Soo good. Im excited to read Never Flinch.
Nice 👍👍
@@DaveReadsKing yes thought holly was very good. And a new King novel is always something to look forward to.

I was hoping for something fresh and new. I’m sick of her now
I’m with you all the way!

@@yernarshambayev5246 yeah that's what I thought too, thanks.

As someone once said
The sequel the body count is higher main characters are more expendable and there’s usually a twist at the end
Yeah but this is the *sixth* Holly book!
❤❤❤❤ I’m looking forward to reading it but I will pick up the paperback
Paperbacks all the way!

And may you have twice the number!
I am so excited. She has been a favorite character since Mr Mercedes trilogy. I loved all the books she has been in.
👍👍👍
I’m always excited for new King, but I do wish he would move on from Holly Gibney. Thanks for the info. Cheers, Dave!
Same! 😊
I’m glad we are getting more King books, but am tired of Holly Gibney.
💯💯💯
I'm in. Holly (and HOLLY, the book) is aces with me.
👍👍

😂😂 this is great - although surely it would be a blue chambray shirt??
@@DaveReadsKing Thank you for the correction of my oversight. Comment edited.
😊
I can't wait to get this one!
👍👍
Never Flinch sounds like a Jack Reacher title.
I guess it does - kind of fitting for the crime angle of the Holly books
In which month should never finch be available? Thanks for the piece of news!
As I said in the video, 27 May 2025 😊
”per my last email…” 😂
@MrNiceguyjin well, y’know, I did say the date at least three times!
@@DaveReadsKing sorry if I bothered you but I didn't hear because I was tired of listening to you

Personally, I think the OG title “We Think Not” is a clue that it’ll be FemActivist vs Trumpers lol
Oh, good call!

Damn at this point I’m starting to think King loves Holly more than his own wife. He just can’t let that girl go
😂😊
It seems as if Holly is one of his “ darlings “ and we know what he does with them eventually….
🙏🙏🙏🙏
tbh not that excited to get more Holly, Jerome, Barbara, etc. 🙃
Same! But I’ll still read it 😅
And Flanagan doing a "Carrie" series. Two things I'm really not that excited about.
💯can’t help but feel like the Carrie announcement from Amazon came to try and deflect from them letting slip about the new book!
@@DaveReadsKing Oh, interesting! Guess that would make sense.
