When things are irritating and noisy it's really hard to settle down. It shows the good and bad side to wild camps. Thanks Trev.
Yea - we take the rough with the smooth out camping sometimes! Thanks for watching!
Bugs, dogs and rain! Sometimes we have to question our life choices 😆 Good to see you back Trev and taking one for the team.
🤣🤣🤣 that was almost the video title! Lol. Cheers for watching!
Love seeing you back ! It always rains on Dartmoor Trev. Even when September was hotter than the whole summer.
I know, I know.. there was none forecast and I left during heatwave but....
Thanks for the new vid Trev.
I've camped in that exact spot in late November. It was an interesting night, freezing cold wind but I was treated to a cracking sunset.
Nice one! Yep, I do love Oke Tor! Cheers for watching
Nice to see you out and about again Trev. Ive often thought about doing a tarp camp up on Dartmoor but haven't as yet! Proper cracking video again mate, well done 👍
Cheers Mike. Yea, you don't always get the crane flies like in this video, but it can be a really great experience.
Glad to see you have been out Trev. Hope you and the fam are all well.
All good this end thanks! Cheers for watching!
great to see you back Trev. You suffered so we don't need to! But you answered a question I have often asked myself :)
Good to see you back out there mate. Been thinking about tarping but I think you’ve just put me off. Was up at steeperton the week before, the best night I’ve had on Dartmoor. Hopefully I’ll get a couple more in before the winter sets in. Keep up the good work, alway look forward to your videos.
Thanks Daniel - to be fair, most of my tarp camps have been awesome - this was the worst for critters! Nothing better than lying on a clear night and looking up to a blanket of stars!
You won’t catch me in a tarp with all those critters about! 😲
After that night out - I dont blame you
good idea. I will try your solution next time I have a light trail.
It saves a good amount of grams, at least!
“ Coming in murky now look at that ! Can’t see Buck all Yer” absolutely had me cracking up haha , great to see you back trev ❤
Hahah! Cheers! It was good to be back!
Another great video Trev. Really enjoyed it. We had our first camp that week over in the West Okement valley (ish). We had terrible trouble with the daddly longlegs too (and had the full tent kit (Mongar 2)). Had a terrible night's sleep too, but first time ever camping and learned some valuable lessons. I was so fed up with it nearly sold our kit but I have seen sense now and won't be of course although might treat ourselves to a 3 person tent, bit snug for two in the Mongar (great tent though). Looking forward to your next one :)
It's a strange thing, you can have the most horrendous camping experience but by the time you get home you've almost forgotten and are already looking forward to the next one. Thanks for watching.
Well done Trev, glad the rain passed, no fun packing up getting pissed on, good to see you 👍
Cheers Andrew! Especially when I didnt even pack water proofs! 🤦♂️
Good idea with the cloud up trev. Might try it with my cu2 next summer but not in daddy long leg season 😂
You should invest in some earbuds to deaden the sound for a better nights kip . Good to see you out
Well done there Trev camp there it’s great spot
Cheers Steve, thanks for watching!
Jezz, that looked horrendous!
Hey Trev, I was on Oke Tor, September 15th weekend. The Craneflys were a nightmare, I mean everywhere and in everything and 1st night heard something being killed, eerie as heck hearing the squeals, no barking dogs though thankfully 😂😂.
Really enjoying your videos, keep them coming.
Cheers my friend.
Absolute bootie Trev! You never fail to make me smile and laugh out with your trips onto Dartmoor 😂 Oke Tor is a beaut spot with such stunning views, just a shame the heatwave stopped when you were pitching up. I bet you slept well at home the next night! Well done for getting out on to the moors, and for all the video editing and stuff you have to do before we can enjoy your content. Nice one Trev 👍
Thanks very much, glad that you enjoyed it. And yea, that bloody heatwave did stop there and then.
I head south rarely but dartmoor looked stunning there 😊
It really is!
First video I saw you in you were beating up a tent with a trekking pole, best laugh I had in days🤣 Let me return the favor and solve your insect issue....look up the Snugpack jungle bag. it's basically a woobie (poncho liner) with a zipper which lets it be a blanket or sleeping bag, but it has an integrated bug net around the head you can zip up and be bug free. Will fit right inside your bivy, and is affordable too.
Sorry you had a horrendous night! Next time will be better (best thing about winter, less insects) Also, the worst camps often make the best stories! 😅 Love that you are so honest in your videos 👍
So true! I'm actually really looking forward to some winter camping. Cheers for watching!
It's been so long I thought you'd bought a caravan...... good to have you back Trev, I use a camping blanket or what ever they call them with a summer sleeping bag, works well, also a Mongar 2. (with inner I ain't that silly.) Bugs are bugs where ever you are, blooming things, don't leave it so long next time.
I'll try not to Paul! Cheers
Hundreds of crane flys up great mis tor last weekend 🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟
Gross isn't it?
Get some earplugs⛺️🚙🏴
That tent colour is perfect for Dartmoor.
Not too bad tucked into the rocks from a distance.
Decent quilt that flames creed one. I'm sure collin waits until I've bought gear before he gets it in stock! 🤦🏼♂️🤣
Haha! Always one step behind him, Gaz! It was a decent quilt, very similar to a naturehike down bag, i used to carry a busted one out with me. Wont need that old thing now
We were overrun with crane flies up on Great Miss Tor last weekend, there were hundreds of then all over the grass outside of the tent.
Yep, they were pretty gross.
You can't beat it to decrease weight but you've shown some of the trade offs for that. Thank you for your experiment for our benefit!
Yep, that's the trouble with tarping
Still fun even when it's a crappy time, bad night, bugs etc.. Just got to focus on the positive bits, got to use all that fancy gear, get out there
Exactly.
That’s a good “better weather” set up. I’d use my head bug net with my Bivi if bugs about in a set up like that. Didn’t visit so much for the suffering you promised us as the “incey wincey spider” moments 🤭
😂😂😂 Hope I didn't disappoint! Thanks for watching.
Did the same with my OEX bobcat but didnt suffer the little skinny legged basts 😂
Yeah, wouldn't have been such a bad canp without them. Cheers for watching
get one of those nets helmets for those insecty evenings Trev?
Wild Beare used one on in one of her latest videos iirc
Great spot to camp even with the Daddy Long Legs, the barking dogs and the rain, atb Simon
Yeah, not a bad pitch. Oke Tor is stunning.
I was up at around Princetown last weekend and we were under attack from May'flys 😂At least we don't have midges to deal with down here.
Yep - always a silver lining!
A real Dartmoor tale, Trev 😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
Ha some kind of inner mesh system would be awesome, hmmmm :). This is why my pack is the same all year round for all eventualities.
🤣🤣 if only huh?
Try it again in the summer when it's light evenings, it's the torch in the tent that's attracting them.
And that was the hound of the Baskervilles you could hear I expect
Yea you're probably right, on both accounts, Colin.
Trev, get the straps for the quilt, they fit round your pad to hold the quilt down and prevent draughts. They dont come with the quilt unfortunately.
I read the title and somehow thought you’d done the opposite, just taking the inner as a bug net. An idea for warmer weather!
If I'd have managed to get out in the middle of the heatwave, and not at the very end of it, that would have been a good shout.
if nothing else, the tent survived your brutal treatment of that zip!
It's a bit stiff to use these days, needs a good old yank.
Don’t understand why you did that Trev, 500gm to be bug free and minimise droughts is a small weight penalty. You found one of my favourite spots there too if I find anyone on it next time I’m out I’ll blame you!😂
What an experience...never again! 😅 I camped August at great nodden freaky night! , needed to pop outside my tent early hours in the morning buut diddnt close the inner door on my tent , came bag to a bugfest all partying around my light including big daddy longlegs, midges, and harvest spiders everywhere... I was only gone 5 mins! . Was a little freaked out took ages to get rid of them ... note to self never tarp or keep open door when there swarms are about 😂.
Oh wow! That does sound a little grim. Yep, the insects can get everywhere. Hope it hasn't put you off. Cheers for watching!
A classic summit or nothing adventure! Trials, tribulations and music just like in the beginning. Awesome classic. Cheers Trev 👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching
SR2 can do the same arrangement.....always looked at the pics and decided that was a feature for different climates !
Yea,pretty much all naturehike tents have the same capability.
Crane fly nightmare there Trev. Head net next time. I think Karensgonewild was exactly at that spot recently and had a visit from a fox, so maybe thats the answer to the wandering food sachet.
I should imagine it is. Cheers for watching
How are the Facet 75's holding up? Seeing them on sale for $60 and considering getting them soon.
Yea I still really like them. Got out for a stroll on the coast on the weekend, really comfy.
Great video Trev and fantastic camera work. Love your work as always 👍
Many thanks! Really glad that you enjoyed it!
One of your best yet 😊
Cheers Andrew - glad you enjoyed it!
I love how honest and real you are.
Actually I'm just really good animatronics! 😆
@@SummitOrNothing😂😂😂😂😂
Oh and is that walking trainers you have on or boots
The trainers Columbia sent me, Paul.
@@SummitOrNothing they look smart
Those bloody crane flys are a nightmare 😖😖
Tell me about it.
Tarp camping has never really appealed to me. It's bad enough when i get a moth in the tent, I couldn't be doing with daddy long legs crawling all over me during the night. The only time I'll sleep under a tarp is when I'm in my hammock surrounded by my bug net. I'm a bit of a pussy when it comes to insects! It was good to watch this video in full & good to see you're back out camping again. It's got me in the mood for a camp on the north moor tomorrow night, can't wait!!
Hi Trev.
Glad you are back.
I wouldn’t really call that ‘Tarp’ camping…
It’s just half a tent.
All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧
@@soggz4246 Yea, I guess it is, but a lightweight option that I always promoted but had never tried. Good bit of fun though! Cheers for watching!
urggh those crane flies looked horrible … apparently they have a venomous bite but because their mouths are so small they can’t bite us (thank god!!) not being a true tarp that big gap obviously made it very drafty ☹️ but would be good in an emergency situation (caught in a storm maybe!) i have the flames creed quilt … i found it a bit chilly when i took it out in 4 to 8 C the other week …. needed to wear my puffy under it … might get one of those mini bivvy bags before i use it next time … thanks for sharing your suffering so we don’t have to 😂 atb Dave mc
Hahaha! Its why Im here, Dave! Yea - I recall that crane fly fact from a Ricky Gervais stand up routine haha. All the best mate and thanks for watching!
Great vid, Darn mayflies lol, always a good watch , cheers
Cheers. They were kind of nauseating after a while. Cheers for watching!
Were your flies undone there buddy?
You think that's where the crane flies came from?
I went camping last week and the flying wood termites were out in full force. They were so loud flying into the side of my tent and buzzing around. It was gross.
Yea, sounds it 🤢
Hi Trev. Thanks for another great video. Not sure I would be able to cope with all those bugs flying around. I camped on Shelstone Tor on Wednesday night and there were a few daddy long legs around and some long black beetles. Thankfully I was able to escape into my inner tent. I remember I was overrun with daddy long legs when I camped on the Blorenge near Abergavenny this time last year. They were strutting around the porch like they owned the place! I've had two great camps on Dartmoor this year inspired by watching your videos. Keep 'em coming.
Yea, they just fly dizzily about continuously hitting me in the face, was pretty gross. Glad you're enjoying the moor!
Another great video. Thanx Trev.
Glad you enjoyed it
Trev thought Nath was with you for a minute but it was a cow
🤣🤣
Just to let you know mate they are Crane flies, pretty harmless don’t bite. May flies are found on Rivers earlier in the year. Must admit they can be irritating.
They made me nauseous after a while!
Nah I'll keep the inner in mine ta! 😆
Fair enough! 🤣
You need quilt pad straps for those clips. They go under your mat to keep the drafts out 👍Decent camp though. Apart from those daddy longlegs. Hate them 😂
Bissly little bastards! They were everywhere! I'll probably mostly use the flames creed as a secondary layer in the winter camps to be honest.
@@SummitOrNothing I've used it through winter last year. Got me well below zero without being cold 👍 impressive little quilt. Wish I had the green though. Bit more stealthy.
Missed this one somehow. Wondering how much the bivvy weighed in comparison to the inner? I've had that thought before when I see ultralight tarp camping but once you've added the bivvy weight there's nearly nothing in it then. Still, looked enjoyable apart from the bugs 😬 atb 👍
Your channel is the nutz m8 keep em coming don't leave it too long nxt time
I'll try!
Good to see you back Trev...👍
Thanks 👍 Its good to be back! More vids to follow!
Nice to see you back out Trev!
Thanks! Great to be back.
Great video Trev, many thanks for sharing.
I think for the bit of extra weigh I'd have to have the inner with me though
(But then again, I have the luxury of the car to carry it)
Loved how you managed to sleep through your stew bag being nicked with everything else that kept you awake lol
Looking forward to your next adventure
Cheers Ivan. Yeah, once I slep I must have slept like a log, unless the fox was proper stealth. Cheers for watching.v
Hi Trev, where is your other half.. Nath..?
He's a busy boy - over due a catch up though!
Well you are a great pair together…
@@garyd3704 Yep. Great tits come in pairs lol
Trevs back! Woop woop!
Bonjourno!
Conspicuously long cigarette mate 😂
Just a standard green rizla I'm afraid andy
I thiugh that was a black bear
A turbulent night in more ways than one. Don't know if bug repellent works for those daddy long legs insects, they looked tedious to deal with. Coffee choc and a fag, breakfast of champions.
Yea - was a grim old night, but made a good video so all's well I guess! Cheers for watching!
In respect to your thumbnail question, yes absolutely 😂 good to see you back out.
You're a cruel lot 😆
Great video. Flame’s Creed sounds like a set of instructions for dealing with the aftermath of a hot curry. Respect.
🤣🤣
Somehow wallowing in someone else's misery is good for the soul !! Loved that one Trev 🤣
Yep - youre a cruel lot lol
Dude, this is a family show. Flies undone at 5:07. 😧
I wish I'd noticed that during the edit - could have cropped it out!
@@SummitOrNothingcropped it out??! Oooer errr 😂
The other day I came to the conclusion daddy longlegs (crane flies btw) are the stupidest insects around. That same day one had landed in the bathroom sink and was trying to scramble out. It didn't once attempt to fly out in the however long it was I was watching
Yeah, I watched one in the night get caught in a spiders web - i thought he was done for - then he freed himself only to fly straight back into it about twenty seconds later.
Idiot phone engineer that saw you the other day :) Good to have you back on the 'tube. Another quality video
Haha... thanks for saying hi! And cheers for watching!
It looks like a tent but is not. Just get a tent and sleep without insects.
It is a tent, I was just trying something out. Thanks for watching
Too much swearing and hating on insects
That is a QUILT not a sleeping bag FFS.
Calm down mate.
