Great video sir. I just got a 74 sprint off of eBay. Theses videos will be a big help during my restoration.

I miss serviceable and rebuildable pedals with large bearing surfaces. I tried to repack a pair of DMR pedals not long ago, the cavity where the locknut is is so small, that a socket can not fit, and their official instructions tell you to jam a screwdriver in there and turn the spindle from the other side…! Expensive pedals but the bearing races are complete crap, and only 5 tiny bearings in there….

I also like the serviceable pedals, you can make them feel like new, Schwinn also used the non-serviceable Rat trap pedals on the Varsity, surprisingly they seem to spin decent forever unless they are left outdoors. On some of the early pedals you can bend the tabs to remove the cap bracket and grease the spindle and bearings. The later ones were impossible to bend, so I just cleaned out the old grease with WD-40 and then injected some heated grease in the bearing race gaps and spun them a few times until the turned freely.👍🔧🚲

Hey Oscar. Can you share your chrome bolt for brake supplier?

The ones on the link below are listed as Weinman and include the chrome pivot sleeves and red washers, they could work as the Dia-Compe are pretty much the same. I went to my eBay purchase history and found the description of the ones I got, they were no longer available from seller but you could try searching
Dia-Compe 1205 bicycle 750 center pull brake arm pivot bolts (PAIR) CHROME - NOS

How did you remove the dust caps? How did you polish the body? Those are the most important aspects.

You can spray a little WD-40 around the caps first, then use a thin flat screw driver to carefully pry the dust cover without damaging the cap. To polish the pedal I use paint thinner to get the grease off then polish with Semichrome paste with soft cloth...Good luck with your overhaul 👍🔧🚲

I love these videos! I just rebuilt my second pair of 440s and I have a question about the amount of "play" that is acceptable? For mine to spin smoothly there is still just the slightest amount of play. Does there need to be No play at all?

Glad you like the content 👍🔧 Slight play is acceptable as long as the lock nut is secure. I find that if I back off the cone with just a little play, then tighten the lock nut snug it will spin freely with none to minimal play. Have fun working on your bikes and thanks for watching 🔧🚲
