    I've been a sneaker collector since 2002 and after the birth of my first child, I've came to the conclusion that life is meant to be lived and not spent.
    I'm getting so much more from my family than any sneaker release I've ever been apart of. I still like shoes but I live more for the experiences that life rewards.
    Shout out to you and your growth. It's good to see more people taking time for themselves rather than impressing others. Keep going and growing.

    I think shoe companies should pull back drastically on releases. I’m burnt out on new updates from them day by day. It doesn’t have the same impact as it did in the past

      Facts , when I was in high school 2011-2015 sneaker releases were just exciting . The sneaker game wasnt as mainstream and watered down. We got 1 or 2 great releases a month and it felt like each release meant somethin. I actually got a rush from getting a new shoe I wanted and adding to my collection. Now it’s just too many shoes releasing and the game is just lame af.

    I agree with a lot of what you said. But for me, it’s not a competition. I’m just buying what I like and wanted as a kid. I do it for me or at least that’s how I justify all my purchases lol. Grew up poor and couldn’t afford nice shoes or cool toys, so I’ve spent a lot of my adulthood catching up. It’s fun!

    Mindsets change constantly, I got a wife and 3 kids and most of the time now I end up getting the sneakers I really want, knowing I can make 300-500 on them depending on the shoe and I’d rather use that money to take my kids to the zoo, or a theme park, or take my wife out to eat and I don’t regret a single thing. I enjoy sneakers, I appreciate them, but success means different things. I got a healthy wife and kids, I got financial peace, I enjoy my job that allows me to be with my family more. I’m 28 this year and I don’t give two shits about material things.

      I’m 25 now but even when I was 20 I felt this way. Like I would want this show so bad and once I got em they just became regular shoes to me. Like I remember I wanted the Yeezy 700 vantas so bad, I got em now and they’re just regular now

    just had this conversation the other day. it's very true that our egos can honestly get in the way trying to keep up with the people we see on social media or that instant gratification that comes from purchasing something new and after you see it and wear it once, you're looking for what's next. we have to be more content and show gratitude to what we have in front of us and not what we see from other's highlight reel. great video bro!

    Man, this video couldn’t have come at a better time for me. Just yesterday I felt the burnout of the always needing more sneakers that I started contemplating selling them all. I’ve been watching your channel off and on since I was 13. I’m 21 now and it’s crazy that you said “I wish I knew when I was 21.” That hit me hard. I think as sneakerheads we lie to ourselves and say “once I have these sneakers I’m done” but then we still need more. Not to brag but I have accumulated around a $20k collection and I still say that to myself. I would love to hear you keep talking about this topic because I don’t think it’s discussed enough. We have enslaved ourselves to consumerism. Always needing the best and biggest thing has such a strangle on our lives. Blessings brother❤️🤙🏽

    Me personally, im not trying to keep up with the joneses or competing with anyone. I like sneakers, always have. I buy what I like and don’t feel guilty about it. Everybody is on a personal journey. Not everybody’s path is the same. At the end of the day you have to do what makes you happy.

    You hit it right on the nail with this video. I’m 31 and recently I’ve also been dealing with these thoughts and changes in my life. I love sneakers always will but it’s true it’s this vicious cycle we get stuck in that we think makes us happy. But happiness can’t be bought! Fighting cancer made me realize the most important thing in my life was not the material shit. It was my time… my happiness!!

    I’m 36 and I realized that I don’t need to buy everything that I want. I think carefully, ponder for a little while, calculate if I decide to go through with it, and make sure I enjoy whatever I bought for a good while before I buy a similar item. I learn to enjoy what I have for a longer time instead of finding good deals or whatever is hot. Video Game, Shoes, electronics, clothes, household items, etc. all have to get vetted by me before I purchase it. Also, the lasting effect of enjoying the simple things in life like practicing a hobby, enjoying going out, exercising, good rest, good movies/shows, music, cleaning, decorating your place, etc. are really rewarding as well.

    It's all a part of growing up tbh. I've been a sneaker lover since the late 90's. I'm 45 now and still have a collection but it's not a priority in my life. Experiences and family is far more important.

    man this is the best video I’ve ever watched today. I can relate to what you said about constantly buying things like sneakers, clothes and what not then aiming for more. I’ve been to that cycle as a sneaker lover too. It was a nice ride until I realized one day that it was so stressful because you’ll get addicted to it and you never stop wanting for more. As a 31 years old I realized peace of mind is more important than spending to the things you never really “need” just to feed your ego. Lesson learned is, just be wise and contented 🙂

    Hey Sneaker Life, I too have been feeling this fatigue with sneakers and materialistic desires. The magic of buying these things is the story they tell and the work you put in to ultimately afford them, not the item itself. Specifically for the sneaker market, it’s been bastardised into a whole business of reselling and yes we have experienced that in the past but it’s just gotten out of hand to the extent that normal consumers who want to enjoy sneakers for what they are and not treat them as a quick cheque or a commodity can’t even do that. I can speak for the rest of your audience that we have grown and matured, and this video letting us know we aren’t the only ones who’ve experienced the diminishing magic of innocence and our love for sneakers is very reassuring. I’ve been also collecting shoes since 2012 and I’m 26 now with a 3 year old now it just feel like the material shit never ends. Like no matter what I do like buy sneakers, cars, and clothes there always going to be something new and it never ends. I thank god I’m fortunate enough to afford it but honestly it’s hard to stop and invest on my self like make content like you.

    Wow Mike this was a really insightful video. I’ve been watching you since I was about 17 years old and I’m 23 now. I’ve been thinking to myself similarly to what you were talking about how as a youngin we want to make all this money to get new stuff and it’s a never ends, I am at the point my younger self so desperately wanted to be; full time job, moved out and have more kicks and clothes than I ever did yet it still feels semi-hollow. The notion that we should be more focused on what pleases us at our core instead of what social media engineers us to desire is a great point

    I've also been falling off on sneakers. Everyone is just releasing so many shoes and so many colorways. It's hard to keep on top of things, hard to pick and choose what you wanna prioritize when it comes to sneakers, and most importantly, everything is so over saturated. Everyone and their momma wears the same thing. There's not a spark anymore, a thing that makes you wanna tap into the sneaker game. Part of it is obviously that we've grown up and started liking other things or prioritizing spending money somewhere else but I think most of what I said still holds truth.

    Went through this in the past two years. It feels like a new sense of freedom not being stressed out on FOMO. I think it’s okay to appreciate a tangible item, but a person doesn’t need to own every single sneaker that comes out. It’s okay to like something and never owning it. Enjoy what you and “time” is the true luxury.

    When I was young my parents couldn’t really afford to buy me sneakers so that’s what got me into collecting as an adult. At one point I had about 40 pairs in my closet & only had 5 on rotation. Ended up selling/trading everything & keeping 5. A lot more happier now

    Don’t know if it’s just Sneakers but I’ve felt the same kind of burnout from social media including Instagram
    You talked about “not being there” and the never ending battle to compete for attention
    At the end of the day, if you’re reading this comment, you love sneakers. But the type of content creator I, personally tend to gravitate towards are those that intend to enrich the sneaker community by being open and transparent of their journey and sharing their perspectives and opinions.

    Great video! I've been involved since '04. Had I kept everything, I'd have well over 1,000 pairs. I've been fortunate to make some great friends, built solid networks, & have some great memories. Most of us flexed for genuine appreciation for the hobby. We didn't trip on who had what. It was always mutual respect.
    Like most good things, it was all hijacked over by these frauds over the years. I still collect, but not like I used to. To be honest, if I had it to do over, I probably wouldn't Lost sight of what's really important in life. Much respect to you to figuring it all out, now & your evolving outlook on what's important.

    Yeah man, I feel you. I went from over 80 pairs to about 30. And that still feels like too much. If I don’t wear a sneaker for over a month, I sell it. Too many other things to do - buy records, books, travel. But to your other point - people always been pushing fake lifestyles, social media just makes it more frequent and in your face. Glad social media wasn’t around when I was a teen.

    Yup! Im feeling you on this topic. Im done with sneakers. Been at it since 2016 and now all the 2016 releases are coming back. I take that as a sign to move on.
    Sneaker culture is the most toxic of all communities im a part of. Probably has a lot to do with age range, immaturity.

    I told myself I’m just trying to stack my bread I done chilled out on buying sneakers I kept finding myself buying a new pair and then a couple weeks later it’s like “oh it’s a new pair out that I want” I noticed it’s a never ending cycle. I’m not gonna say I’m never buying sneakers ever again but I’m learning to be frugal with my paper and starting to learn more about investments and other things like that. I’m just cutting back and focusing on the big picture.

    I’m 8 years in the sneaker game and definitely hear you on this! Back then copping sneakers felt like collecting cool sports cards and it was a fun culture. Now a days it feels like a unneeded status quo that sucks the fun out of it😶‍🌫️😕

    Im 25 turn 26 this month & I totally get where you’re coming from.. after you get the sneakers that you been wanting & been a sneakerhead for 10+ yrs it gets to a eye opening frozen moment kinda thing like what am I doing?     Hey man, I’m 29 too, and what you’re feeling and experiencing is not uncommon. I have made the same changes as you regarding changing what you value-going from caring all about the latest and greatest sneaker to now my 401K and Roth IRA contributions and allocations. Life is weird that way, but it’s a part of our evolution, I guess. Moral of the story keep being great my brotha!

    I figured this out when turning 21 and now at 25 with good savings and not chasing others wants but my wants and more importantly my needs, it feels great. Still a ways to go, but to know I have a good emergency fund and I have all I need and no excess material items is enough for me. Keeping a calm mind is important

    Entire video, masterfully said and felt by myself, as my recent videos have spoken on...there's an entire shift of how we look at it all. And one point I know everyone won't understand that stood out as someone who does content in this space 6:24 ... it's truly centered on just spending money, endlessly! Nonstop, every drop, and there's an inherent expectation to know about every drop and care about every one, as said at 0:38 , absolutely don't care to know every sneaker, especially if I have no interest in buying them.
    I haven't even been at this for 10 yrs and already where you are (in perspective) Mike (likely because I'm older as well). I think as the comments show, you have a LOT of subscribers whose approach to sneakers and consumerism has shifted away from hyper consumerism for them, doesn't mean they love sneakers any less. Change happens for us all.

    Wow, your perspective at your age is very profound. I totally agree with you also. Being a slave to money or materials is not a great idea and that doesn’t mean you can’t have nice things, be wealthy and enjoy life. It looks different for everyone, but we all should be true to ourselves and not to what we think we should be doing based on what others think.

    You’re older than me by a year or two but I’ve been collecting since I was 15 and on UA-cam since it started pretty much (no ads, everything free days) and I agree with you for the most part. Even though most of these lifestyle videos are faked or misleading, I do think the motivation that it can provide has some benefits similar to seeing a rich character in a movie. Complacency is also a very dangerous thing, imagine a world where no one wanted to get better. There definitely should be less of that type of content, but it can do good things for some. I applaud your shift into more life focused content 🙏🏾

    I’m 29 and about to be 30 in a week and i agree with everything you’re saying, with being young and wanting to be a millionaire or make x amount of $$, with the fake hustle/influence space/wanting everything to be perfect, old ppl telling you to do this that and the third but only realizing it when you really go thru it yourself.

    Man I first found your page back when the Columbia 11s came out and I was up early with my parents phones and tablet ready for the drop.
    Over the years life happens and you realize sneakers aren’t life and spending 200$ or more every week on shoes just either always wear my boots for work or Salehe bembury crocs to go out.
