It IS pretty shocking to cost $1000 a month but do you suppose it would cost that much for Cubans? If available here, would probably be ten times that or more. But what I meant was - if they are so much poorer than we are, how can they accomplish so much more in medicine and in education?
@@grandmachristine42 Agreed. When you look at Cuba's healthcare accomplishments RELATIVE to the resources they have, Cubans have way outperformed US. Even with a per capita economy 1/7th of the US, Cuba have comparable or higher health outcomes to the US; higher life expectancy, lower infant mortality, etc. And all of this DESPITE the decades-long American embargo and isolation from rest of the world.
@@RockScorpio9184 the embargo was established back in '62 during the missile crisis, but now the crisis is averted, the USSR is dead, so is Fidel, and Raul stepped down as head of state, yet the embargo is still up -_-
@@RockScorpio9184 well I was looking at an alternative history of Cuba when I saw this in the list and then scrolled down to the comments and saw your comment. Damn 3 years sounds long but the year was 2017... wtf is happening with life
Congratulations to CBC being one of the few Western Mainstream media to do this report. When it comes to Cuba, I do not listen to the narrative of the Western Media, but this is rare for one to cover.
I've always wandered why the U.S doesn't have a tax funded biopharma company. I don't mind the private pharmaceutical firms, but I think tax funded ones could create a more stable platform for medicinal development. Also fun fact, Cuba has such a high population of doctors, that people who are too sick to go to the doctor can instead be visited by one since there is a doctor within walking distance of every sick person.
If he's expecting to continue all this smuggling and technically illegal activity for the foreseeable future and his life depends on it, why would he be willing to reveal his identity on TV and broadcast it? Seems like a risky move to me...
@@RockScorpio9184 Yes, I was thinking the same. With a potentially terminal disease he has nothing to lose. But a chance to extend his life and bring award to US citizens about vital products the embargo prevents us from accessing.
The U.S. Constitution permits a person to take any medication in order to preserve and prolong their own life. There is zero chance this man would ever be prosecuted for acquiring such medicine.
How could anyone not stand in awe of all that Cuba has accomplished?

Our company was black listed by the US DoT and US based banks for no other reason but sending US patients to Cuba to seek live saving treatment.

That’s because Cuba doesn’t have private pharma company.
Loopy marxist
Cuba is doing a wonderful thing for humanity and yet they will not receive a Nobel prize for it...
Cuba was already a shithole 6 years back and now is even worse lol
2 thumbs down from the lucrative chemo industry.
Gracias Fidel
You should be able to take any pharacuticals you want, government has NO right to stop you.
BULLOCK you are right, but the Cuban Embargo makes that forbidden since the 60s or 70s, when Cuba was a "Communist Threat"
