We live in Wales where the locals fought for their living language , its now spoken fluently everywhere and our english child starts to speak it now in toddler group and we learn too, well done! Thank you for keeping the langage alive

I'm part Cherokee on both sides of my family. I have been to Cherokee,NC. I have traveled over the Trail of Tears. I live on the trail now. I have been to Talequah,Ok. I have spent my life trying to connect to my heritage. I'm glad you have this program. 🌲🌺🌲
My husband is from Tahlequah Oklahoma. He has some native American ancestry but it’s not Cherokee from what I understand. We lived there for about 10 years and now we are in my home state of Wisconsin. I miss Tahlequah so much. My husband still has family in Tahlequah but with my disability I’ve not been able to travel back. For those that don’t know Tahlequah is the home of the Cherokee nation in Oklahoma.
Seeing Indigenous languages revived in the younger generations is so powerful! Language is an integral piece of our history, and by initiating this program you are spanning generations!
I had an ESOL little boy come across my path for evaluation for a learning disability. His first language was Navajo. His parents were very much in the same position as these parents. I thought it was incredible that they made their ancestral language a priority for their son. 🤗

This is absolutely beautiful and will make such a difference in connecting all these children with their culture, traditions, and heritage. This is something all cultures should have available for new parents be a part of as soon as their child is born and throughout their life. I really appreciated how every aspect of a child’s natural life was incorporated into this process making it I believe more effective and also exposing the children to more of their own cultural identity with food and traditions being a shared part of the experience. I adopted all my children when they were ages 8-12. My youngest are Puerto Rican and never learned to speak Spanish growing up - they can understand it a little bit when spoken but that’s it. If I knew then what I know now I would have found a way to have them learn Spanish and better connect them to their culture and help them better understand themselves and their history and heritage.
Momma, we all look back and think of the things we would have desperately done differently. Don’t beat yourself up too much over this. You opened your home to children in desperate need of stability, warmth, and most of all, love. Trust me, we ALL could have done this or that better. I think you knocked it out of the park! 😊❤

Speaking the language of your parents and ancestors is the most precious gift given to a child, maintaining it is a struggle because when attending school they only want to speak with children the language that connects them. My way was that at home and me the children speak Spanish and outside of the house you speak English with your friends. That's how it was done, the languages didn't get tangled. By the age of 4 years they already spoke 3 languages (their father is european) and that has served them well in their professional lives. Congratulations, keep this new tradition for the pride of the Cherokee lineage

There are resources for sure. There are 2 languages I believe Northern bands dialect is used most (if I remember correctly) with Eastern being a bit more difficult. If you are enrolled in the clan you can use those resources to get free classes online or attend physical classes. If you are in the boat of many others that have been disconnected but cannot prove that you are indigenous enough (stupid I know) then you unfortunately have to pay to learn. I believe in youtube there are free lessons here with the northern dialect of Tsalagi, but on native tok (tiktok) there are people trying to share the language and help people reconnect.
Today we have reservations, where many tribes have joined together to become one tribe as on the Oregon coast, we have the Silezt Tribe with included many other tribes from southern Oregon and with the tribes came many different dialects and that’s the way it is in the other Reservations around the U.S
Keeping your language alive is vital. It carries the history of your people, and allows that story to continue to be told.
