    Hey everyone - just want to extend my thanks again to your kind words as I recover from Bell's palsy. It affected my voice heavily which you will definitely hear in this video, but it has mostly recovered now!
    Anyway, hope you enjoy this look into Part 2!

      It was an amazing video and I will agree I do like the Japanese audio, but I just have so much for nostalgia for the English dub.

    Becoming a big fan of a Manga, it's interesting looking back to different parts of the anime to see what they adapt.
    While Part 1 mostly adapted the element of the heist and crime indicative to the early material that it takes after.
    By Part 2, Monkey Punch's stories with the master theif had evolved into becoming much more spirited and satirical, fully embracing the feel of a variety show than a true crime series. Thus, Red Jacket (and Mamo) would encapsulate that zanier, wild period of Lupin - until Cagliostro would fully establish the modern traits of the character we know today

      My perfect Lupin is if it's funny. That's all I need regardless of the "deeper" stuff they've experimented over the years I'll never enjoy the edgier stuff like the The Woman Called Fujiko Mine or Goemon's bloodspray because they just aren't funny

    • @zemox2534

      They were not meant to be funny. They were meant to be more faithful to the original tone of the manga

    I miss part 1 and 2 goemon, actually he is just the samurai Guy, but he was more goofy and had a lot of funny scenes. And the zenigata of this season is the best for me, the situations he's got himself in are hilarious, and with best voice action he is probably the star of the show for me.

      Part 2 turn him into a bloody fool. Future portrayals gave a more balanced look of Zenigata. He was serious and fun.

    My brother and I went to the part 6/part 1 dub premiere, but They kept showing the same commercials for about 50 minutes and then the lights came up. The projector "broke". The reason I bring this up is that at some point the people next to us just started watching part 2 out of context clips

    Part 2 on Adult Swim was my introduction to the series and it became one of my favorite franchises. Even with odd pop culture stuff sticking out, the English cast really made it work. The sub v dub debate honestly never bothered me, and Part 2 was a great example as to why. They pulled me into the absurd fun of this franchise and I was invested to see where they would go next.

    It might not be the greatest part of the franchise, but it definitely was a great entry point for many like myself, even if the dub wasn't as faithful as it should have been. Would be great if they could do a more accurate dub in the future, but I can understand that would take a lot of time given the series is so massive. Dan Lorge's Zenigata was certainly the best of any English dub for the character, though I am very much enjoying the energy and passion Doug Erholtz has brought to the table as Dan's successor.

    I'm currently getting my friends into lupin and chose to start by showing them random dubbed episodes of part 2 and I have to say the dub despite being inaccurate sometimes is still great in its own right and keeps the spirit of lupin which to me is what's most important.

    I'm really hoping at some point Discotek releases this series on Blu-Ray. It's actually the one I've been wanting to see the most because some of the episodes were done by the genius that is Noboru Sugimura, who revolutionized Super Sentai with the likes of Zyuranger, Dairanger, Kakuranger, and Ohranger. Not to mention he gave us Resident Evil 2 and the Nobunaga trilogy of Onimusha.
    I need to ask, why does the movie "The Fuma Conspiracy" keep coming up in your video as the one where none of the voice actors played their characters? Like why were they not involved with it? Is it an official movie or just some fanmade thing? That sounds weird that an actor will voice their character for like 30+ years except in that one title.
    One criticism I do have about this video is you really should have played a quick sample of the opening themes for the audience. It seems weird to talk about the music but then never play any tracks from it. In fact, The vast majority of this seemed to just be a still shot in this video compared to your Part 1 review. Is there a reason for that? Don't get me wrong, you still provided solid information, but I felt having actual clips would have enhanced your information a lot better, especially for those who aren't familiar with this franchise. Not to mention having a few comparison clips for the Japanese and English versions would have been most welcomed. Nevertheless, thanks for such an informative video. I'm looking forward to seeing the one on Part 3.

    • @CloudConnection
      @CloudConnection  2 роки тому +1

      Regarding Fuma Conspiracy, TMS refused to hire the usual actors for that one (alongside Yuji Ohno) so a whole new cast was added. Audiences weren't happy with that, so TMS brought the regulars back and the Fuma cast didn't return to those roles again.
      As to why the video is stills and there's no music samples, after the Part 1 video, I got hit with a copyright strike by TMS which took down all three Lupin videos to that point. I fought that strike and eventually won, hence why the videos are restored, but I don't want to deal with that again - hence a stripped down presentation. I'm planning to slowly add some clips back; I actually played a full promo in the Part 3 video and that seemed to pass, so if I do it sparingly, I might be able to stay out of trouble with TMS.
      Believe me, I want nothing more than to have full clips throughout these videos and have more audio from the show as well. You're right that they'd be far more informative for the audience, not to mention more appealing. But I have to tread carefully. I can't really risk having a video tank view-wise just because TMS doesn't want Lupin clips online, even if their use of copyright takedowns isn't warranted.

    • @TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork
      @TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork 2 роки тому +2

      @@CloudConnection As a UA-camr myself, I fully understand the annoying heartbreak a copyright strike can cause. It's why I keep my clips down anywhere from 7-12 seconds. Sometimes I can get away with 14 seconds, but I'll cut out the pauses in the dialog scene to keep it as short as possible.
      I think I might try my hand at reviewing Part 1 after I finish it since I'm loving it so much and see what I can get away with.
      Back to the Fuma movie, that sounds awful. Is it any good? I wonder if i should just skip that one if Discotek ends up releasing it.

    • @CloudConnection
      @CloudConnection  2 роки тому +1

      Good luck should you decide to review Part 1; I can't give you a definitive guide on how to avoid strikes but keeping those clips short is definitely a good idea. Not foolproof, but it should at least keep you mostly under the radar.
      On Fuma, I personally really like it; even if TMS was too cheap to hire the regular cast, the new ones do an alright job and the animation is really, REALLY good. Very fluid, and a lot of great facial expressions / movements. And it's a fun story! It has some faults and TMS' penny-pinching is unfortunate, but I think it's a very good Lupin adventure.

    Sorry, just making a quick comment during real life. But can we expect to see The Secret of Mamo, The Castle of Cagliostro, Legend of Gold Babylon, and Farwell Nostridomus, during this retrospective as they like Psycokinetic Strategy where theatrical releases. Just asking because unless I'm mistaken Mamo was released before Part II and Cagliostro was released during Part II.

    • @CloudConnection
      @CloudConnection  2 роки тому +2

      I'm absolutely covering them, yeah. Mamo actually premiered in December 1978, a year after Part 2 began airing - so that's why the Part 2 video was first!

    Goemon had a few good episodes for himself like the Kabuki 2 parter. It explored his honurable side and his bond with Lupin. Seriously how on earth can you complain after that adventure?
    With that said I must say I think Part 2 is slightly overrated. Animation Is inconsistent (and even horrible sometimes), Zenigata is flanderised and is too often portrayed as a complete clown. The formula can get old and boring very quickly. It is why I liked Part 4 and 5 a bit more since they have ongoing plots. And the dub takes too many liberties with the original script. Yes the voice acting is good but the stupid and obnoxious jokes and pop culture references were just annoying. I am happy they stuck more faithfully to the Japanese script for part 4 and 5.

    My Dad has been complaining recently that he can't find anything good to watch, So I've been considering introducing him to Part 2. He's a big fan of old Looney Tunes, Classic James Bond, Cars, Guns, & Action Flicks so I think this mighty be a good fit for him. He had also just turned 20 back in '77 when this first aired, so he was part of the demographic this show was targeting. I'm just a little nervous on how to introduce it to him. I've been combing through the English episodes trying to find, what would be the best few episodes to introduce him to & in what order. Like "Oh this Episode is great, but you need to know the characters & the gist of the show to really jive with it" or "Oh this episode is great, it really does a good job of introducing the characters, but there's this one cringe scene" you get what I'm saying
