As someone who's partner is actually from Donbas (Luhansk), I can safely say none of these people know anyone from Donbas, and that everything they think they know is complete bullshit. First of all, people have never been "prohibited from speaking Russian" in any part of Ukraine, and it's STILL the case. My partner is a native Russian speaker, and even continued to be so (until the invasion in 2022, of course). My partner and his entire extended family fled from Luhansk to the Kharkiv region in 2014 not because of "Ukrainian shelling" but because of the constant violence in the streets brought on by the armed Russian separatists who had made their way in, like a disease. And who suddenly had VERY heavy weapons they loved to use VERY liberally. This was especially a time of paranoia and distrust amongst the people living there, and the stress of these armed militants taking over the city was unbearable and felt like a ticking time bomb. They moved from Luhansk because they knew what was to come. They knew what Russia was and still is. And look what happened.

Cool anecdotal experience. Of course the bulk of Luhansk and Donetsk residents supported Russia. They voted politically for decades for pro Russian parties, and as you said, almost all speak Russian. And of course there are those who fled because there was violence and disorder but they are a tiny minority. There is very little distinguishing Ukrainian and Russian people (near same history, origin, languages very similar), plus if you take the language factor out, it’s practically the same people who speak the south Russian dialect. And Donetsk also had waves of migration across Russia to the coal mines and factories, so a lot of these people have roots outside of the Okrajina.

When this war escalated I knew nothing about anything going on there. So I listened to Putin's speech, did some research myself and discovered that Putin is Full of shit. Didn't take me long and was not hard to find information about it all. Yet ruissians cant think for themselves, not sure why, using a lot of excuses like I don't follow politics. I have never though more than now, on how gullible the human race is and all thanks to russians putting their head in the sand.
russians still are calling Ukraine Nazis and dismissing simple things right in front of their eyes about media, which country was it again that banded free media...Hmmm russia did that, not the west. About time the west released those mosquitos that only kill russians now. FFS.

For the same reason that Melitopol and Kherson remained intact. If the enemy army leaves the city, it remains intact. The militias did not establish themselves in cities, as the Azovites did in Mariupol. It cannot be said that Donbass was intact at all. During the 8 years of conflict, many civilians died. “From 2014 until the start of the special military operation, until February 2022, 2,269 civilians were killed, including 35 children. About 8 thousand civilians were injured, including 90 children” in the LPR. “DPR Ombudsman Daria Morozova, in a report to the UN Security Council, stated that from the beginning of the conflict in Donbass to the special operation in the republic, 4,374 people were killed, almost 8 thousand were injured.” This is not to say that there was no war before 2022.

Which is fine, you don’t have to know everything, but can be sensitive topic in certain situations such as the one Ukraine is in since 2014.
The fact that many Ukrainians have russian as their mother tongue is not denied by anyone. But Russia, with their hostility and aggression, has used this as their advantage as a justification of their action, using our tendency to simplify against us. My wife told me one day « they stole my grandmother’s tongue and now they steal my mother’s tongue » which is very accurate: many Ukrainians choose not to speak russian anymore, even though it requires efforts for the older generations

Even the others who were bombed were not bombed by AFU (this apply at least for 95% of such attacks, very small part can be counted as collateral damage by AFU but it is really the absolute minimum). Nearly all attacks against civilian infrastructure in Donetsk and Luhansk was done by separatits/ruSSians in order to blame AFU and create that narrative about "Ukraine bombing people". Also Prigozin confirmed that which was probably one of the reasons why he was killed. Before the Ukrainian government decided to send the army to the Donbass in 2014 and begin the ATO (antiterrorist operation), Russia sent Girkin-Strelkov, Borodai, Motorola (Russian military intelligence) who with the help of a battalion of mercenaries (GRU, Wagner) stormed the regional parliaments of Donetsk and Lugansk. And only later was Ukraine forced to defend its territorial integrity, as the government of any country would have had to do. Then a war began in which there were victims of both sides and civilian victims were caught in a crossfire.
Ukrainians also died: 4,500 Ukrainian soldiers; 6,500 rebel soldiers and 3,400 civilians killed by both sides, not just by the Ukrainians.

I live in Donetsk, and to put it briefly, before February 24, life was at least somewhat bad, it was stifled by propaganda and the local regime that instilled its values. If we talk about when Donetsk was not yet under occupation, no one belittled me for the language I speak, no one forced me to do anything, I lived simply and calmly, everything just went on as usual, that Donetsk also had its problems in terms of politics and economics, but these are all natural things that in normal states are resolved over time, at least Donetsk was like that before the occupation. This is how I will always remember it, my hometown. If we talk about the time after February 24, all hell began here, Russian norms began to prevail, people were forced to adapt to them, although there was neither a technological nor physical ability for this, I will touch on everyone’s favorite topic about the bombing of the Donbass, after the 24th it just intensified and in this regard, everything became extremely worse, if we compare before the start of the “SVO”, then military operations took place only on the border of the territories of occupation and Ukraine. I think this argument about 8 years, incomprehensible people seized part of a sovereign state and thought that they would be allowed to move on with the help of armed formations, is complete nonsense? People who supported the occupation of Donetsk should have understood that they were committing a crime by supporting this. It seems to me that people here are deteriorating every year due to the lack of the right choice between cold and hot media. I am sad for my city, and for the people with a pure consciousness who are here against their own will.

The Russian Leader made no secret of the fact that he wanted to turn the whole of Country into Russia. He published a essay about this in June 2021.
He said it has been the biggest mistake of the previous government to admit it as a state.
In the same year later in December he had a long speech, in which he said: Ua has no right to exist.
2 Months Later he started the "Operation".
He also admitted in September 2023 in Vladivostok, that this war was about conquering land, especially Crimea. He was asked what future generations will think about him.
He responded with an example of Katarina II. According to Historians, she is historically weak, because she did not manage to make Crimea Russia. And he doesn't want people to write about him like that in the history books later.
So the Russian Leader admits that he is afraid that future generations will consider him weak if he does not manage to turn Crimea into Russia.
He also says right after that, "National interests always come first." And "that is my very most important guideline and goal." And "I am not ashamed to admit this."
This is the Reason for Starting this back in February 2022. Its all for his Ego. As Wagner Leader said before his Plane Explosion. This "Operation" was only for the Grandpa to look good in his Grave.

The russian people talk in the video about needing to learn history. So here's a history lesson...
    Igor Girkin and Donbas
Mh 17 passenger airliner was shot down in Donbas in July 2014. A Dutch court found three ruSSians guilty in absentia of that crime and those russians are wanted by the ICC to stand trial in the Hague. But guess who one of the russians was?
Igor Girkin! Former FSB officer (now in jail in russia for criticising putin). Girkin has admitted in several published interviews that the FSB invaded Crimea and Donbas in 2014. It was not a popular uprising and russian speaking Ukrainians were not under threat. Girkin has admitted that the mess russia created in the Donbas has led to hatred of russia in the Donbas. He has gone on record saying there was no civil war. Just the FSB causing provocations that were then backed up by the russian army in neutral uniforms.
Girkin boasted: "I pulled the trigger for war. If our troops had not come from Russia to Donbas and Crimea, we would not have been able to start a war."
putin has since invented the figure of 20,000 civilian deaths, offering NO EVIDENCE whatsoever; no cemeteries filled with bodies, no names, no eye witnesses, nothing.
Prigozhin (naturally before putin had him murdered) had also admitted that there were no Nazis in Ukraine and that Ukraine had posed no threat to russia before the invasion. He blamed elites in Moscow for launching an unnecessary and unprovoked war designed to make themselves rich.
That is the truth. Not from me. Not from the West. From the mouths of the russians who were there and started it.

According to official UN estimates, a total of 3,404 civilians died in the Donbass war between 2014 and 2022. That number covers civilians killed on both sides and also includes MH17's 298 civilian casualties, whose deaths are indisputably Russia's fault. More than 3,000 of them died in 2014-2015. During the years 2018-2021, only a little over a hundred civilians died. Most of them died in mines. In addition, many civilians died while handling unexploded ordnance that exploded in their hands. In 2020 and 2021, only 15 civilians died as a result of active hostilities. These figures are from OHCHR reports. It is absolutely untrue what you wrote regarding the settlement of the eastern lands of Ukraine and the famine from which many in the USSR suffered, but only because of the drought in these territories and the stupid management of the Bolsheviks. Although the Ukrainians whine the most about the Holodomor, reserving this prerogative. It is known from the archives that it was Lenin, and later Stalin, who gave carte blanche to Ukraine, giving them the eastern Russian lands, inhabited by Russians, as well as the south, including Odessa, where the indigenous peoples were only Russians and Jews. They also issued a decree in which the study of the Ukrainian language became widespread, which was not the case under the tsar. Large industrial enterprises were created on these lands, which quickly went bankrupt after the collapse of the USSR, while the Ukrainian economy was considered the most developed in the entire USSR. Of course, this is a disgrace, to distribute Russian lands on what grounds, why? Khrushchev later distinguished himself with this when he gave Crimea to Ukraine. And at the same time, they hate the Soviet regime and whine more than anyone, even the Balts. 😂 All this contradicts the fact that Ukraine was deliberately starved of famine. Regarding the Crimean Tatars and Kaliningrad, the information is correct. What can you not read in Western historical tales?

I just wonder why no one of your lot asks a very simple question: why there was no one single victim and no single destroyed house BEFORE you started protecting the inhabitants of Eastern Ukraine? Why was it necessary to send Russian nationalist activists and special forces there in order to convince the people that they were suffering? From those Russian subjects who initiated this mayhem and following orders from Moscow led so called "uprisings" there are only few who survived, most of them were murdered and interestingly not by Ukrainians but local "unknown perpetrators". Some of them, like Prigoshin and his coworkers were executed, others like Strelkov are in Russian prison. Almost all initial so called local leaders of so called uprisings were citizens of RF and members of FSB.

Russian TV visually “correctly” represents the course of hostilities for its citizens. 3. Returns to point 1 I want to ask you why Westerners did not protest so actively when your troops invaded regimes and countries they hated with much greater casualties. Yes, I know, there was a public outcry, but a hundred times less. why? Вecause there was no such agenda in your media. Because they dealt with their opponents. When Russia attacked your ally, there was an unimaginable outcry and sanctions. I don’t remember Americans being excommunicated from the Olympics during the invasion of Iraq with incredible civilian casualties. Rurik's origins doesn't matter at all, foreign dynasty origin is commonness - Rus is neither a dynasty nor "Normans" (who were all over nearby and elsewhere, yet always called Varyags etc), however it is a land/country/folk within Kyiv-Chernihov-Pereyaslov region, distinct from the rest around, which is a straight fact in documents of 9-13 centuries.
Kyiv as a city is completely visible in 9-th century, and Rus besieged Constantinople already in 860 as a great force.
Not only Novgorod wasn't there, being but a tiny village kilometers away from the city founded in 10-th century, that empty place merely couldn't compete or have relevance to a completely separate, wealthy, long populated center of 2 trading routes, eastern and southern - Kyiv. - How many died in Donbass 2014-2021 and how many of these were civilians? (Russia constantly falsifies the numbers given by the UN. 14,000 were the losses on both sides, but only 3,500 of them were civilians, civilians on both sides, also includes Girkin's downing of MH17 = 300 civilians.)
    - How many civilians have died during the 2022-2023 SMO compared to "bombing of Donbass" 2014-2021? (The answer is ofc much more, confirmed civilian casualties already exceed 10,000 and UN also states that the real number is probably much higher. Large part of civilian losses are from Donbass, Mariupol for example. Protecting the people of Donbass should not be a credible excuse for anyone anymore.)
    - Why only Donetsk and Luhansk? Also e.g. Kharkiv and Odessa are mainly Russian-speaking, Ukraine doesn't seem to oppress them and they don't seem to want to join Russia? On the contrary, it is Russia constantly bombing these cities, why bomb these Russian-speaking "Russians" who they are supposed to be saving!?!
