I remember scenes in the TV series ER where the young surgeon (Eriq LaSalle) was constantly practicing his knot tying. I’m sure it took more than a week to get the basics.
Oh, very interesting! I rewatched a few times to follow along with you. As a matter of fact, I was able to follow the backward knot easily after you slowed it down, and I could then follow it easily from the beginning when you did two backward knots in a row after the initial forward knot when you started. I had to watch it a couple of times to see the forward knot. I 🤔 I finally got that one! In crochet, there's a crochet term where the yarn is wrapped around the post of the crochet stitch called around the post and also behind the post. It's actually similar when you see the results. Cool, Dr. H! Thanks for showing us this!
Im not a doctor but I learned how to do sutures because part of my job is to remove them. I wish my knots would have looked that good. But thankfully I will never suture anyone. It’s above my pay grade. This knot is still cool though
I just found your channel last night. Just through one short UA-cam message I knew i wanted to be a subscriber. You are one of the few down to earth doctors I have heard. Your soft spokenness is truly comforting. I'm sure your patients find it so also. Too many doctors lack this quality.
Thank you Doc for this nice tip. I'm not that mentally dexteritous, even crocheting is a challenge for me. But I will keep this info in back of my head for future use. 👍😁
When I was doing my paramedic rotations I ran across a doctor who was notorious for teaching paramedics how to do stitches. Actually he thought paramedics should be able to do stitches so I learned but not on a dishwasher but a real person lol
My late husband had some weird circle stitch after a lung surgery. I think it was where the chest tube was. (He had multiple surgeries for cancer.) It was pre-vaccine/Covid start time. He did not want to go in to remove his stitches because he was in chemo/immunocompromised. I had a heck of a time trying to get that one out. It was really tight and I could not get in to cut it. I did manage to get all 79 of his craniotomy staples out- they gave me the proper staple remover. But, he ended up going in to get that stitch out. I felt a little better about my lack of skills when the doctor had a hard time removing it. There are some fancy sutures out there.
I was gonna be a surgeon, made it all the way theough medical school and all that jazz...could never master the knot. Sooo here I am greeting customers at Walmart. I think it was a lateral move
Whoa so cool. Im gonna try it on my dishwasher too, 😁. So what makes these knots special? They use combination of forward knot and backward knot, so as not to come undone? Or better for better scarring? Or does it make it easy to cut out?
Why are they tied that way? You said there's a forward knot and a backward knot. Is it so they don't come undone or is there another reason? Interesting 🤔
Me - not a surgeon
Also me - spends 1/2 hour trying to learn this surgeon’s knot.
😂😂❤️
I've just tied my fingers together and I'm also now attached to a chest of drawers, I do not have scissors within arm's reach. I have failed.
@@lukedowan8608 Or succeeded, it’s all about perspective! LOL
@@lukedowan8608 hahaha
You’re funny
Lol. It would take me a week to learn this.
He slows it down for us even and I’m still here lost as F about how he even did it 😂
Me too 😂😂😂
Every little girl who grew up making friendship bracelets could do the forward knot in their sleep! 😊
Your comment brought back memories of charm bracelets back in the 80s 😊
Never opening that dishwasher again
That’s why I bake cookies. Never could figure out that knot after a surgery.
Amy! 😂
Love this surgeon for his slow & wonderful instructions ♥️♥️🌺
He has such a gentle demeanor ❤
I can’t keep my shoelaces tied lol I can only image my Patients falling apart 20 minutes after Surgery 😂 Those knots you tied are staying put! 😊
Thank you for bringing us all into the world of surgery
This man has such wholesome and informative videos♡ I appreciate the efforts of him and his team
I aspire to be a neurosurgeon someday, you always inspire me.
Go for it. We need more surgeons
You are just the best guy, Dr.H.!
I remember scenes in the TV series ER where the young surgeon (Eriq LaSalle) was constantly practicing his knot tying. I’m sure it took more than a week to get the basics.
Omgosh! I totally remember that! lol He was always doing that!

This is incredibly Awesome 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you!!!!!!
I can't even keep my double knots from coming apart on my work shoes!
Thank you doc 🙏🙏
You learn to do this and several others during the 3rd year of med. school.
Im not a doctor but I learned how to do sutures because part of my job is to remove them. I wish my knots would have looked that good. But thankfully I will never suture anyone. It’s above my pay grade. This knot is still cool though
👍🙏💝Thank you because I needed to know this just in case I’m ever in the wild and need to suture something cut or severed. 🙏💝
All I know is when I got my forehead stitched up, I was very thankful for the nurses ability to keep things moving.
Fancy!❤
😂

I always wondered this. Thank you so much.
Bet he was big into the Boy Scouts as a kid.😂
Surgical square knot I believe. Very useful knot to know in many applications. Approximates things easily and well.
This man has the best information education for us out here just getting surgery makes me feel better about the situation which is coming soon
You have a beautiful hands sir… if you are out of your current job as a surgeon…you should do hand modeling 🥰
Hey, as I watched this, a commercial with you came on. I'm sorry about your son, but I love how you're trying to help others.❤❤❤
Ok. Never mind that I am not great at math here’s another reason why I am not a surgeon…KNOTS!
It's ok, because this guy isn't good at math either... especially after drinking 5 shots of water.
I tie my shoes like this everyday!
You are fun to watch! Challenge my skills as an RN! 😊 love your quizzes!
I’m a fisherman and suck at tying knots. I can’t seem to get my head around the “simplicity” of it all.
I learned this from watching Grey's Anatomy.
I admire and have the greatest respect for you
Omg I learned this from my mom, she was an expert in fabrics 😮
Yep That’s how learned too
I used to work in the OR for PEDS open Heart team as an assistant
It’s like making a friendship bracelet 😊
Now, I’m in the kitchen with a string when I need to be vacuuming. 😂😂
Thank you Doc for this nice tip. I'm not that mentally dexteritous, even crocheting is a challenge for me. But I will keep this info in back of my head for future use. 👍😁
I always tie backward knots, but with both hands. I should learn your technique
Thank you for sharing!! Things a lot of us would like to know, just didn't know how. Keep it coming.
I love watching you
Interesting to know! I love learning new things as a senior.😊
When I was doing my paramedic rotations I ran across a doctor who was notorious for teaching paramedics how to do stitches. Actually he thought paramedics should be able to do stitches so I learned but not on a dishwasher but a real person lol
I'd be all thumbs.
WOW! Soooo cool! ❤❤❤
Bracelet knot!!😆
I think that would be hard with gloves on. Thank you for your videos. I like them ❤
I'd have to go to Med school just to learn how to do that knot. Kudos to you, Sir.
My brain can't make it happen
Incredible ❣️

Magic at its best 😢
I know how to do it now....wheres my scrubs?😂
I have granite very similar to yours - ❤ it!
In my last surgery, for colon cancer, I got staples.
Exactly why I am not a surgeon
I wonder... do you knot 6 times or is it just once?
Depends on the suture type and the site you're placing the suture at
Wow. One of the most crucial parts of the 500k a year
So I can tie my boat up now
Easier to do it with the needle holder😊
Wow..ur fast!
I just found you and love you❤❤❤❤
I’ve just tied my fingers to the draw 😂
Ha ha
Woooow Dr. H💯🥰😧😮
-That’s great
-now how do i become a surgeon ?
2 years of community college
Reminds me of 🧶 crochet.
I crochet and I think I could tie his knots no problem.
I was gonna be a surgeon, made it all the way theough medical school and all that jazz...could never master the knot. Sooo here I am greeting customers at Walmart. I think it was a lateral move
His man knows his stuff. He wouldn't do a Granny Knot on an elderly Lady.
Whoa so cool. Im gonna try it on my dishwasher too, 😁. So what makes these knots special? They use combination of forward knot and backward knot, so as not to come undone? Or better for better scarring? Or does it make it easy to cut out?
And I am teaching my son everything I know
I flunked suture tying😭
Interesting!❤
Wow. There s a bit more to that than i realized. Never gonna do it...
Very interesting. Half hitches.
Nice one.
Got it ! 😂
If you were really tying, would you be driving your knots down with your index finger?
I'm trying to calculate how many thousand knots he's tied.
Ima,ways wind weed this. Ty. I've has stitches so many times. My kids have. Ty. Ty. Ty.
What can patients do to relieve the removal pain from the sutures?
ok i see why this requires so much school bc man 😭
Optical Illusion! ha I've tried these suture ties, watching other DRs videos.. I will leave it to the experts!
Becoming a Dr. 101
#Ifailed
Square knot
Yes, though he wasn't laying it down squarely.
If you can't tie a knot, tie a lot. That's what it looks like I'm looking at
So who the fuck was just sitting there with a string just going like 🤞🤞🫰🤌🤏🤌🫳🫴🫰dear god i fucking got it
I wonder what the utility of doing that instead of how anyone would. That seems so complicated I would think not learning that would be a better use
Why are they tied that way? You said there's a forward knot and a backward knot. Is it so they don't come undone or is there another reason? Interesting 🤔
Awesome man wish I could have taken his sons place in life and let the boy live
Me too man! Thanks ❤️❤️
So now I can transplant my friends heart?
Considering the number of elementary students who have no clue how to tie there shoes, things don’t bode well for our future surgeons
For all the home surgeons out there 😬
Love from Pakistan brother
You hink I could do this on the first try? Probably knot. 😅
Far 2 cleaver,,❤❤😂😂🎉😢😮😅😊
Wow!!!
I fail , patient is now RIP😅. I will stick to being a medical esthetician 😅
It's like macrema
