No doubt about it in basic training you're gonna gave to do a lot of push ups so you're gonna want to get your push up count as high as possible before you ever meet your drill sergeants. Let me show you the way to do that. You can increase your push up count considerably with this quick and easy routine. First thing you want to do is you want to do some jumping jacks to warm up your body, ok. Just a few. If you can do 25, 30 great. Jumping jacks are simple just like this, ok. Now once your body is warmed up this is the routine you'll really have to do to increase your push up count. The first thing you're gonna wanna do is do diamond push ups to exhaustion and when I mean to exhaustion I mean till you literally cannot push yourself off anymore, ok. And a diamond push up is when your hands are on the ground and it looks like this it's making a diamond. Alright, starting position your arm is straight gonna come down as far as possible gonna push yourself back up. Now again work to exhaustion. Then I want you to wait 30 seconds. Do a normal push up where your hands are normal length. Shoulder width apart, ok. Again you're going to exhaustion. And I'm gonna tell you the reason you're gonna go in this order in just a few minutes. Now we're gonna do wide grip push ups. So your hands are gonna be even farther apart then the normal grip of course. Nice and wide. So in between each of the diamond, the normal and the wide grip you're gonna be taking a 30 second break, gonna be working each to exhaustion. All of those three exercises is one set. You're gonna wanna do three of those every other day and if you're used to where you can do those three exercises without any problems do four sets then five sets then six sets however long you have to go until basic training. Now here's a tip when you're doing diamond push ups you're working your fast twitch muscle fibers in your triceps. When you're doing wide grip you're working your slow twitch muscle fibers in your chest. You're building up your chest your arms and your triceps all on one where you do each of the three variations of push ups. So if you could do twenty push ups before you even start this exercise you should easily be able to do 80 without stopping after you've done a few weeks of this exercise.

Joke or not, if someone goes from only being able to do 2 push-ups up to being able to do 8, that would be a huge improvement actually.
It's not about competing with others, it's about overcoming yourself day by day.

    • @Bank_Da_Bread

William Lynch Well it was a long struglle but lemme explain the process of what I did. I first started doing 3 sets of 10 then increased to doing 3 sets of 13. Then resetted and started doing 4 sets of 10 then 4 sets of 13. You do this till I guess infinity or when you ship out to basic training. Also do this exercise once a day and then b4 you go to bed you do a bedtime blitz. Why I call it that is that in a minute or 2 if your going to go to the army, try to do as many as you can. This is how you gauge your performance. Eventually the more of the exercise you can do, the more push ups you'll be able to do within the time limit.

Just for anyone who is really really bad at pushups. Like someone who can't do 10 pushups. Then I suggest you do around 3 pushups, 8 times throughout the day. It's not that hard and but it really will work. Then start increasing the reps but decreasing the sets up until you reach like 30 pushups, 3 times throughout the day or 40 pushups twice in a day.

Increased my diamond max from 12 to 26, my triceps are my weak link for sure. I love the quick-intense workout. Key is to max out each set. He probably exaggerates the results a bit, but I'm sure they vary by person/body type too. Great routine to mix into your workouts.

I just want to touch on something, when he explains the fast twitch vs slow twitch, he is VERY SPECIFICALLY meaning the wide works slow twitch because he is doing them last in the set, so the body is transitioning from fast to slow twitch fibers as you are forced to go longer.. wide pushups done first would utilize the fast twitch where as the diamond done last would utilize slow twitch. fast twitch = used immidiately to achieve goal (strength size), slow twitch = recruited as the work load takes longer to complete (endurance)
Great video, as a fellow soldier and former trainer i would also go diamond to wide, but throw in a different order every now and then.
Thank you for your video as it will definitely help new recruits.

    • @dustinsvideospace12
      @dustinsvideospace12 7 років тому +2

Do sets all at once. Once you complete an exercise program (any) and your goal is to add strength....you NEED to give your muscles time to recover. Therefore, breaking up any exercise program into a throughout the day thing will work against this goal, as your muscles will have started recovery already and you will be re-engaging them leading to plateau's and possibly injury - This is a great beginner's guide, but take a look around other channels as this is VERY beginner and will get old quick. Just my 2 cents from a current Soldier and Master Fitness Trainer in the Army.

Hi. A Happy New Year to all. My respects to the presenter, Sgt M. Volkin 🙌🏻. I’m 53 years old. I saw this video in October 2019. Until then, my daily push up routine consisted of standard grip sets only (shoulder width). On October 31st I added this routine. I started it with 20diamond/17standard/16-17wide, following this exact pattern, of three “super sets” (this is how I call the pattern) daily. Today, January 6th, each of my three daily super sets counted 50-52d/50s/50w. The pattern works like crazy. It DOES. As an holistic, push up combo exercise. Smashing! Many thanks again and cheers. George from Hellas.👌🏻👍🏻👋🏻

      @islamisthetruewaytogod6812 Рік тому

Hello ! May Allah protect and guide you to his light and happiness in this life and the hereafter, God bless, Ameen. Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist's » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. And terrorists (puppets of the Antichrist) who misinterpret verses, out of ignorance and political motivations, and take them out of historical context (just like radical atheists do by the way), don't help either. Thank you very much for your time.
Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them).
Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI).
Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy.
Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.
Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI).
Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad).
Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning!
Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures.
Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement.
It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them.
(19-22 / Translated by Muhammad Asad)..
      Salam (Peace) ----------------------------

Give 45 seconds of rest in between. 3 days a week. Also recomend doing other workouts pullups etc and naturally you oush yourself to your limit and you will notice actual gains. 3 sets of 10 doesnt cut it to make gains only to gain to an extent my dude.

This method works great with pullups/chin-ups as well, but I apply this technique twice a day, once in the morning and then in the afternoon/evening and you will see fast results especially if your starting off within only being able to do one or two. Even by the end of the week you will see gains but after a few weeks or a month the difference in your performance of these exercises is drastic. Applying the same concept towards pullups I do a set of each of these; narrow grip pullups (overhand), chin-ups (underhand) and wide grip pullups. I always do the chin-ups in between to give the muscles used for overhand a bit of a break. Of course if you can't do a single one to even exercise the muscles then you need to do other basic exercises to build your forearms, biceps, triceps, lats and core

I learned from my father. he would do 100 in the morning and 100 at night. then he would try to push for 200 straight.

Take it from me, I had trouble in basic training. I had to go to get fit for three extra weeks of nonstop working out. I came in doing 0, and left with 20. And I really only had 5 good pushups by 7th week, so starting at 5, I was able to increase four times my amount in just three weeks. Pushups involve the whole body. Surprizingly working out your legs, but more importantly your abs helps out tremendously. If you can ONLY do knee pushups, then really focus on your form. Hands by your nipples, hands slightly outturned, and abs tight. Breathe in while lowering yourself to a 90 degree angle. MAKE SURE YOU HIT THE 90 DEGREES... IT'S IMPERITIVE! Breathe out as you push up. Once knee pushups are too easy, do a conversion. Start as if you're doing a knee pushup. Follow above instructions. Make sure to break the 90 degree mark, then put your feet down and push yourself up. These are a little harder, but once you get the hang of them you'll be golden! Also, Once you get a hold of those, do regular ones. If by the end you can only do five, do EMOTM workouts. (Every minute on the minute) For 20-30 minutes do 5 really good pushups, within a one minute time limit. If you fail to complete the five push ups in one minute, you start the new minute with a penalty of sorts (EX: five burpees) then you have to go right back into the pushups (which you'll have less time to complete because of the penalties.)

jareth sealey Listen just sit in the front leaning rest position for as long as you can, don't do any push ups, just sit in the push up position. When i used to get smoked in the army they would have me sit in the front leaning rest for 5 minnutes before i started doing any push ups... i went from 42 pushups on a PT test in 2 minutes to 95. that was only like 2 months later not even. basic training i was doing like 30...

Ok i'll follow this work-out, 4 times a week. I'll make an update after each session. (diamond>normal>wide)
    Day 1:
    1st set: 17,10,8
    2nd set: 10,7,9
    3rd set: 6,4,5
    Day 2:
    1st set: 17,9,8
    2nd set: 6,4,4
    3rd set: 5,5,5
Note: I still haven't fully recovered from day 1 and I took less time between the sets than on day 1. Also I pushed myself so hard that I almost shat myself on the last set lol
Day 3 (took a day off):
    1st set: 17,10,8
    2nd set: 7,7,5
    3rd set: 6,7,5
Day 4: 1st day of the week, took a day off again yesterday
    1st set: 19,10,7
    2nd set: 9,5,5
    3rd set: 6,4,4
Note: Working out feels really great. If you’re feeling lethargic and if you’re procrastinating and don’t know how to shake it off, just work out and you’ll feel a lot better and proactive.

I stopped editing this comment because I'd take a shower or do something else after working out and I didn't really want to go on youtube and enter the results. Don't worry I'm still on.
One thing to note is that I switched wide grip push ups and diamond push ups (wide>normal>diamond) because as you can see from my results, my triceps are stronger than my chest. In the long term I think it's more preferable to have a balanced body.

One of the questions I always had when watching this. What is the intended rest period between sets? Are these done throughout the day, or intended for a 1 to 2 minute break?

    • @partyhardwithme
      @partyhardwithme 4 роки тому +2

Hi, it's a year ago question but i'll answer un case someone else comes along with the same doubt. The rest period between sets is not important, you can do the three or four sets, divided between morning and night time. The muscles grow by reparing the micro ruptures caused by stressing it, the more you punish it, the more it will strengthen, time between exercises is irrelevant except for the fact that you need to warm up before starting again. Good luck with your routine!

    • @jontotoronto948
      @jontotoronto948 4 роки тому +1

@@partyhardwithme That isn't quite right. If you leave no rest / 30 sec rest - as I have seen other ppl recommend here, I run out of juice and am doing crappy low-number sets very fast. If I wait 10 mins I can do much more. If I wait very long I can do close to full capacity each time. So it makes big diff. Also, in my exp, very short rest time e.g. 30sec between sets does nothing for increasing long term capacity

if you still dont max your push ups. try my advice....
Do weighted push ups, aka put your body armor on or weighted vest and do full range of motion reps untill failure with several sets....
throw in some claps, or different grips too.
(2 days before a PT test)
also, loosing dead weight aka fat off your body will help tremendously even if its 2-3 pounds.
i never used to max pt tests untill i started doing these. And now 300+'s arnt a prob.
I hope this helps some one, as it did for me.
