I believed in Santa Claus until my mom fessed up.. I’ve been studying the Bible (Greek Koine) for decades as a historian and I’m sorry, but basically it’s a superstitious cult that obtained major majority status, and then took advantage of it by eliminating the opposition as much as possible… including fellow Christians
Trumpers would have no idea what you have written about as intellectual dishonesty is way beyond their limited ability to think beyond the mindless void in front of a television tuned the un-American ,whitewing, neo-fascist noise machine erroneously known as Fox News...!
I was an absolute devout Christian. I was called a prophet in every church I went to across the country. One day I woke up with a question, “ why do I believe what I believe?” It started me on a quest for truth which led me to learning Hebrew, and other languages. I’m no longer a Christian but I believe in creation. I’m NOT an atheist.
I just found Deconstruction Zone and am burning through old videos. His technique and ability to shut down tired apologetics and stomp on speculation and baseless assertion presented as solid fact is very impressive.
When I see Justin debating/explaining the Bible to believer, the only quote that comes to mind is "It's easier to fool a person than to convince them they have been fooled".
I've been waiting for these two to make a video together, it was inevitable. Two great guys who are helping many with deconstruction, I wouldn't mind to see more from them!
@@magnusritalinikarlsson4371 because when he challenges something he looks at the Bible itself. Puts it on screen. He can break down Hebrew because he knows the language. He points at how the bible is contradictory just based on what's written. Follow his content here on youtube from TikTok. He knows his stuff and scholars support his statements and it just makes frickin sense when you see the verses.
@@BossRedRanger I am a member of the Baha’i Faith. Religion, as a spiritual and historical phenomenon, evolves according to the exigencies of humanity. God sends divine messengers to humanity to provide the necessary tools to advance human consciousness and civilization and elevate the soul so that, at the time of death, it is equipped to function for the life beyond. You are critiquing ancient religions that were meant for the people of those ages and not for the present time. The ancient divine educators such as Moses, Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, and others were speaking mostly to masses of people who, at the time, were illiterate. And yet, enough and adequate principles were orally taught through parables, allegories, and metaphors to get the job done for a limited time cycle until the arrival of the next divine messenger-for example, from Abraham to Moses was one cycle, and from Moses to Jesus was another cycle, and so on. We can expect God to be perfect, but humanity is not God; humanity (creation) has been ordained to evolve, just as the universe has, so the wisdom is to teach humanity according to its evolved capacity. I highly doubt that you would actually expect even a city map to represent the exact details of “the true reality” of a real and literal city with every single detail. But it does provide the general guidelines for transportation, for a limited time period before the city changes its old routes to a series of new ones. But whether you are using the old-fashioned maps or the GPS navigation, what you see and read on the map is not exactly the factual literal city, but real guidelines that must be interpreted to the closest goals of our transportation, knowing full well that there are numerous things on the map (GPS) that are missing from things that are actually on the city grounds. Now imagine you are looking at old, ancient religions that used to act like ancient maps, and you are picking all kinds of faults with them according to your modern mindset, and yet those ancient religions were simply guidelines and principles for the people of those ancient times. Even then, not everything in them have to be superimposed perfectly with the reality on the ground, just like those maps I mentioned. The number 5 is not and cannot be perfectly superimposed onto 5 continents, but the abstract number 5 can be written, and it can have a definite relationship with 5 continents depending on what we are trying to get at. But the spiritual and abstract cannot be expected to fit and or be perfectly superimposed onto a reality on the ground, but they do provide the deeper truths by providing road signs (relative principles or axioms) in understanding life and our relationship to the world we live in. The other thing is, the law of entropy also applies to world religions. Eventually, each world religion is born, then it gets matured, then get old, and then it dies out, and God provides and put the necessary energy into the system by sending a new impulse (A new world religion with a new Messenger), which begins slowly and grows and eventually gives birth to a new civilization--then eventually, that civilization gets old and dies out-by that I mean, corruption and division set in, and it can no longer respond to the new challenges of an evolving world. This is why religion is renewed from age to age: “Whenever there is a decline in righteousness and an increase in unrighteousness, O Arjun, at that time I manifest myself on earth. To protect the righteous, to annihilate the wicked, and to reestablish the principles of dharma, I appear on this earth, age after age.” -Lord Krishna (Bhagavad Gita: The Song of God, translated by Swami Mukundananda, pp. 138-139) Buddha also said: …‘I am not the first Buddha Who came upon this earth, nor shall I be the last. In due time, another Buddha will arise in the world, a Holy One, a supremely enlightened One, endowed with wisdom in conduct, auspicious knowing the universe, an incomparable leader of men, a Master of angels and mortals. He will reveal to you the same eternal truths which I have taught you. He will preach to you His religion, glorious in its origin, glorious at the climax, and glorious at the goal, in spirit and in the letter. He will proclaim a religious life, wholly perfect and pure, such as I now proclaim.’ His disciples will number many thousands, while Mine number many hundreds.’ -Buddha (Venerable K. Sri Dhammananda Maha Thera, source) Similar statements are found in all world religions. My point is, the ancient religions have had their cycles, and now they can no longer provide the necessary impulse for the next stage of human or spiritual evolution. In this age, God has sent a new impulse, a new messenger named Bahá’u’lláh (it means the Glory of God). It is to His teachings and Institutions that humanity should address its urgent questions. Physics PhD students must address their questions to a physics PhD professor and not to a 3rd-grade English teacher with bachelor’s degree.
I have not seen anyone beat Justin at a debate. I've watched about a dozen of his streams and not just quick rebuttals but detailed explanations that a normal person could comprehend.
That’s because he won’t stop interrupting and muting his guests. Than if you point to scholars who agree with you he just calls you stupid. I’m not religious, but it does not take a genius to see when someone has a bias against something
We don’t “beat”! We love and share knowledge because someone obviously has lied to us for a reason which is presumably to acquire wealth more than others! Let’s stop beating and start loving! I love you! You are me and I am you! Interconnectedness through the concept of consciousness is real and it’s substantiated through empirical analysis and testing within Quantum Mechanics! Just love and let that be your guide! I pray to the maternal source of our origins that we unite together or we will lose this struggle towards true liberty! 🙏❤️🙏❤️
If I hadn't graduated with the degree in theology from Moody Bible institute I'd still be fundamentalist. I'm thankful that going to Bible college opened my eyes and made me leave Christianity.

I got a scholarship to go to a bible college in the early 90's. My intention was to get a PhD or something similar (DD etc) but after two years realized there was no way I would get one because I didnt believe half the BS they were teaching. So I dropped out of studies but continued to go there for 12 yrs because I had a job there working for the building the college was housed in basically as a "spy", seeing all the doo doo and BS that was going on. Went into a ministry after that for about 25 years on my own teaching against all the lies believed by xtianity and found in bibles. Took 15 yrs to realize I didnt believe any of it. Deconstruction complete!
I read the Bible front to back 3 times by the age of 18. I think if people take the time to sit through it, they'll have more questions than anything else. Now I'm in my 50s, in a Bible study, and finding even more confusion and discrepancies. I do not understand how people do this with a straight face.
Ex born again Christian and minister if 30 years here. I love truth and that fact is what finally led me right out of the deeply rooted faith i fiercely defended at one time. The scriptures having any historical relevance can not escape the light of truth. They don't and thats just an absolute fact. How anyone can go through seminary and come out with faith in tact is unbelievable. Although I am no longer a born again Christian. I have managed to hold onto belief in God(s), Source, Spirituality. I just no longer think any if our "holy texts" are worth the paper they're written upon. Religion and writings are just mankind trying to define God. I hold a very loose belief in God and spirituality now, one that doesnt attempt to speak for God and tell people what to believe about God. One thing i think is possible, is if you can't find God on the mountain, nor the forest, nor the sky...Maybe its because you haven't looked within. Know thyself is the key tenet of occultusm. Anyways, i also have personally experienced leaving my body or what can be called an OBE (Out of Body Experience) so i am unable to disbelieve in being just this physical body. Subscribed to both y'all btw! Love what you guys are doing, helping to set minds free.
I enjoyed this conversation so much - thank you! I was on the edge of my seat when you were sharing your stories about preaching to the congregation and funeral service folks while not believing. I experienced the same thing 8 months ago as my husband and I were in the process of deconversion. I was a worship leader (on church staff) for many years, and the last service I led was the only service I ever led not believing a word I was singing. Due to performance experience, I was able to get through it intact, but it was surreal and very difficult. I stepped down immediately afterward because I knew I was losing my faith and couldn't stomach faking it. I can SO relate to what that feels like! You have been such a safe place for us, Derek, and we have learned so much from your channel! Now I am going to check out Justin's channel, too! Sending love to you guys!
Now time to live a sincere and honest life (to oneself) doing good because it is what we want done for ourselves and others; taking joy in living amidst the sometimes apparent chaos. And knowing our loving example is what propels humanity to be better.
I just want to say that I absolutely LOVE your podcast and all your interviews with so many varied people ... I have deconstructed my churchianity beLIEfs .... to where I no longer beLIEve in the narrative 5 decades of churchianity has indoctrinated me to live by.... You have been significant in my deconstruction ... so thank you immensely !! I love your interviews !!
'beLIEve'..............absolutely!. Its pretty simple really, if their God did exist we wouldnt have to 'beLIEve', WE WOULD "KNOW", period. Belief is for little kids because belief really is MAKE 'beLIEve'.
Justin is apologist kryptonite -- been binging on his content for a couple weeks now. Fantastic stuff -- really happy to this collaboration. Nice work, both of you.
Love that "kryptonite" analogy. The indoctrinated folk's dogma withers when Justin focuses them on EXACTLY what the ancient storybook has written within it. One can tell these apologists simply have eaten the prechewed words (gag) from p-ass-tors who make a living CONfidently telling half truths (lies) to soft of thinking sheeple.
The thing that I think is most telling is that it truly appears that Justin was a seeker of God and a seeker of the truth. He didn't appear to be resisting God, but instead investing heart, time, energy, emotions, money, into wanting to know God. The fact that people can do this to the level Justin has and come away confidently and sincerely believing that he was simply wrong is the most profound part of all of this to me. Christian's teach of a God who stands at your front door knocking, just hoping you will at least answer the door. But what happens when you answer the door, find no one there, so you put your shoes and coat on and look all around your house to see who is knocking and find no one. But you don't give up there. You go to all of your neighbors and ask if you know who it was that was knocking and they said they haven't seen anybody. Then you travel block by block asking every single person if if they know who was knocking. You eventually cover the entire city, and the one who was knocking simply does not respond. This is entirely inconsistent with the claim, "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me." Instead, what Justin found from seeking God was that Jesus was not the promised Jewish Messiah. This would have been the easiest thing ever for a real God to clear up at any point for Justin, yet he never did. And still doesn't. This is what is most telling, not the apologetics or counter-apologetics.
I am a former atheist who read the Bible out of curiosity. I can confirm Jesus and the Bible are true. I repented from my sin and put my faith in Jesus. God proved to me He is real by giving me His Holy Spirit that transformed my heart and mind completely. There are many people who had a false conversion and never got born again. Praise the Lord I obeyed what I read.
@@Jesuslordoflords-y4m Cool story Bruv'🤣🤣🤣🤣 Let me try. "I am a former atheist who read the Avesta of Zarathushtra out of curiosity. I can confirm Ahura Mazda and the Avesta are true. I repented from my sins and put my faith in Ahura Mazda. The one ontologically objectively TRUE living God Ahura Mazda proved to me He is real by giving me His holy spirit that transformed my heart and mind completely. Blah blah blah "special revelation" feelings emotion, yadda yadda yadda "what else could it be" and "look at the trees"🤣🤣🤣 See, no empirical demonstrable evidence supported by objectively verifiable facts to substantiate the claim necessary! Just irrational theistic delusions🤣🤣🤣🤣
i relate 💯 to what you said. Holding on to belief while shedding contradictions within the Bible, first shedding the Greco Roman theology to follow the Hebrew Roots of the faith, then studying the Ancient Hebrew and finding the New Testament is fraud and Jesus doesn't even qualify to be a messiah - to then finding issues with the Prophets of the OT. I became Torah only and then finding out that there are Samaritan Israelítes who reject the Jewish Hebrew Bible but only keep Torah. To finding out there's no evidence of Moses, the patriarch, and the Torah was composed far later than assumed....to reading entire chapters in the Ugaritic texts that are found in Genesis.... When you search for the TRUTH, you will never find it unfortunately. All there is, are documents of men's theories.
The front door analogy, makes no sense whatsoever to me. In fact the whole long winded diatribe is confusion personified. For me "this is what is most telling" not even to sure you know what you are on about either. " counter- apologetics" really!
Here is the patience of the Saints, here is the man who has yet to loose a debate, here is the doctor of de-conversion himself, here is Justin, the great...
Crazy how much and i relate to this. Growing up as a catholic i was always a fearful obedient catholic but became self aware of my lack of knowledge about scripture and active ministry. Though daily mass, Bible study, youth groups, talking to homeless to seek Jesus I felt like a superhero. Even at work I was the Christian guy. My next task was to prove catholcisim was the one true faith and this was the straw that broke the camels 🐪 back. I realized the evidence for the gospels is literally a couple of verses written on animal skins the size of a credit card. My world view came shattering down completely and I’m trying to figure out who I am know Ps. As someone who grew up in a broken home with addicts and in deep poverty, Jesus was the perfect opiate to medicate my suffering
There you go. Jesus was your source for fighting through the terrible life you had early on. Stay true to that. Follow in His words of peace and love. As the Bible has said: if you have been wronged 7 times, then let them wrong you 77 times. So on and so forth. Another is to love thy neighbor (not your actual neighbor only, but everyone on Earth) as you'd love yourself. If everyone followed those rules. The world would be a peaceful place with 0 crimes. Don't steal. Don't commit adultery. If you can be true to that. That would be 1 step closer to achieving a loving world. I'm not perfect at all. I've said and done crappy things before, but I'm working on that daily.
Deconstruction Zone (Justin) is big time, getting upwards of 44k views in one day per video stream. He's going to be even bigger. I'm not sure there's not anyone more formidable to Christianity than Justin.
Justin is good, very good but you need to see Paul Anthony Wallis And Mauro Biglino. I've seen all three. If Dereck can bring Paul and Mauro, I believe he will fall off his chair during the interview. It is just mind-boggling what our past has done to so mentally enslave people. Derek got one thing nailed: he said religion is like an opium, it has you in its grip. And it does have withdrawal symptoms. The works of persons as Justin, Paul, and Mauro (these are the three I know) should hint us all that when the time has not yet arrived, a christian in the vice-grip of christianity will never get out irrespective of the person's IQ level. It is beyond reason.
As a secular Londoner, it is fascinating but scary to see how many religious colleges there are in the States. Such a waste of education - no wonder the USA is short of tech people compared to China, etc... Being brought up a Catholic, we never did much with the bible :-) As the one Catholic boy in a state school, I could opt out of Religious Education classes, and hymns and prayers in morning assembly. Still went to Mass every week until my faith vanished overnight. It was assumed I would become a priest at one point...
Ah yes, the shortage of tech workers is clearly down to "religion" - nothing to do with the crushing debt people incur for degrees that promise no real job security. Nothing to do with the neoliberal capitalist obsession with outsourcing labor to the Global South for maximum profit. Why hold the capitalist class accountable when you can pin it on a convenient scapegoat like "religion," a force that won’t disappear overnight, instead of actually grasping how the economy functions?
@@alexmckenna1171 and most of the archaeology digs in Israel conducted by Americans, are barely competent "archaeologists" from these same evangelical colleges, with less than scientific digs and publications

Not to mention they own most colleges, and the media isn't allowed to follow what really goes on on compasses. So not to mention After rump was elected they started harassing and abusing girl's hounding them about their bodies all while the vatican (i mean lets just b honest) but they make sure it doesn't get out just like with these priests that get transfered without exposure and still allowed to stay n service, U know the ones that get replaced instantly(hint). But what's the sad part is the over two billion members calling priests father praying the rosery worshiping idols n popes. They r the masses n don't even know it. They will obey the Sunday law along with many more. If only people knew what Love is but Nobody knows how to Love, Hate has taken over. People Don't even know how to help each other nowa days n Nobody's communicating face to face we don't know our neighbors n sadly people r gonna b seperated from anyone they know n neighbors will b they're life vest or could b if we knew how to love. N Yess Love is the answer. Love wouldn't have caused any of this. Love n hugs
hallel-ujah, from the root HALEL which is the hebrew etymology for the word "LUCIFER" in Isaiah. And Halel is two words in hebrew, ha which means 'of' and LEL which is the hebrew word for NIGHT in genesis ch. 1. All word magic gobligook which equals GOOD NIGHT, LIGHTS OUT if you believe the word magic.
Justin gaining more popularity in the UA-cam space is very gratifying. I look forward to more collabs with him. You two have great chemistry and hearing you both go in on history and comparisons are fantastic! Praise Doug!
I discovered this guy 2 months ago and he is my favourite religious call in content I have ever watched. I think it must be how respectful and knowledgeable he is. It’s like any route they take, he is there waiting for them to catchup.
Justin is awesome !!! As these "atheist" channels grow and coalesce with presenting knowledge and logic to the world...I really hope religion disappears as reason (and sanity) prevail !!
Justin is actually very emotional, based all his evidence on his own "experience," and didn't present one coherent argument, how do you listen to these emotional people?
I know a mother who raises her child in faith and encourages to have QT time. The child lives a healthy life, and achieves many things even though attending services and church activities, while studying hard and working part time to support himself. I have seen many christians live happy life in God, do great things in life. As long as they continue to live like that Christianity will continue to exist.
I ❤ Justin. As a Christian I am a long-time supporter of him. He has actually taught me more than some Christian “leaders” have by forcing me to really look at what I believe and not just blindly follow what I have been told. We may not hold the same beliefs but I hold him in very high regard. ❤
Excellent conversation! This is what happens when you bat away confirmation bias and look at the facts as disinterestedly as possible. Both of you get to look in the mirror and know you kept your intellectual integrity intact.
Then I recommend that you also look into the works of Mauro Biglino ( an expert in linear bible translator) and Paul Anthony Wallis whose journey seems to be as Justin's but much further and a whole lot deeper. Interestingly, both have the same hypnotic way of putting across the facts and encouraging individuals to explore. In his own deconstruction, Paul began another "construct" that feeds off the renderings of the Bible as translated by persons like Mauro Biglino. Mauro is extremely knowledgeable. Fascinating. His work through the bible totally deconstructs the history of humans Fascinating indeed
+30 years ago before all this "new" research I was being drawn into ministry and started studying this from books such as concordances, various commentaries, translations, along with historical and archaeological encyclopaedias and research. When I started reading into the origins of the old Testament and the origins of the multiple creation narratives, etc, the ministry and church lost me completely.
When faith, at its core, is beLIEving what one is told is "The Truth(tm)", nothing clears an open, logical mind than reading where the doctrine comes from !! Great job putting in the work !!!
Thanks Derek! Love you brother and all the MythVision Gaians desiring compassion, love, unity, and empathy! Once we become the Phoenix, the dawn will follow!
Ehrman and Tabor need to be on Rogan. I'd almost rather Tabor bc Ehrman is already a superstar and the very people he needs to reach will tune him out just bc of his name. Regardless, I'd still be great with either one on Rogan.
Calvinism has it right. If you're not meant to believe, you can't & won't believe. But if you're meant to believe, you'll be irresistibly drawn to faith in Christ by The Father, via The Holy Spirit.
derek does such a unique and amazing job of curating different scholarship, and finds another gem for me. this guy is fantastic. i don't listen live, but í'm very excited to be subscribing
I saved this for future conversations with Christian friends. This is the most accessible explanation I've seen by two quite pleasant and highly intelligent people. Thanks guys.
So, I read the comments FIRST and found the viewers in awe and was able to watch the entire 3 hour video so I became interested. Who is this character who is captivating the audience? He must be so smart. So I’m watching. And just like the “wonderful” show “The View” where the sheep audience cheer and praise the so-called intelligent panel on que without thinking, it’s no different here. The Bible was analysed at surface level and the stories and events taken as literal. It’s symbolism completely going over both Justin’s heads and the host. And the audience think you’re both so intelligent for tearing down this “wicked false” book. And you both think you pr something special having the edge over believers too. And I thought I was in for intelligent analysis, real critical thinking. I guess I won’t find it here or on Justin’s channel.
Fantastic conversation. I really appreciate Justin's impressive knowledge and recall of many texts of both the Bible and of other ancient near Eastern literature both of which he used as fantastic examples. I look forward to watching more of Justin's videos now. I do refuse to be inDougtrinated though lol
Brilliant discussion! I especially enjoyed the part about OT prophecy, which shows Christianity is a con. I love that he says Paul doesn't know the OT.
Great job guys. I left the Lutheran Church at 12 for different reasons but ended up with the same idea as you. Paleo contact for me is what I believe in.
Yah. A degree in Biblical studies on my way to being a minister / missionary turned me into an unbeliever. It amazes me that some go through the same process and don't see the fraud of it all.
@@billguthrie2218 If that dont deserve a follow up explanation not sure what does. Sounds like you know or at least believe you know something worth saying?. For instance what lies?
Alisa Childers’ book “Another Gospel” describes “deconversion” as a postmodern process of rethinking your faith without regarding Scripture as a standard. She blames biblical illiteracy for this falling away. Ironically, everyone I’m familiar with, who have deconstructed, such as Justin and Derek are the most literate. She also blames “church abuse” as the catalyst for deconstructing. I understand blaming the church is preferable over blaming the religion, because apologists can’t admit that some true Christians truly deconvert because they realize Christianity itself isn’t true.
Something I would love to hear more about is when Christians had great deliveries from demons and paranormal stuff because of their faith, and how they view it today after they left their faith.
Those people don’t deconstruct because they know the Lord and reality of the spiritual world. Maybe those who witnessed, but not those who experienced.
@@Shabbydoobydoo I like to think broader in this. There are plenty of people that all sorts of spiritual expriences and yet still deconstructed, it is illusionary to think otherwise. We also see people in all sorts of traditions to deal with demons and the supernatural, successfully, and that all outside Christianity. Spirituality is complex.
@@SimonDaumMusic I understand what you’re saying but first find a person that was set free from demonic possession by Jesus who has deconstructed and then ask them. You will not find one because like I said, they have seen the truth. I understand you find that topic curious but those people don’t really exist. Just because it’s complex does not mean there’s no truth. People who have been demonically possessed have seen the truth of the darkness and after seeing the TRUTH of the light of the Lord, I cannot imagine them walking away from that. But if you do find one who has, let me know.
@@Shabbydoobydoo Like I said before, I have come across many people that dealed with these things outside of Christian dogma, and successfully so. There are many Christians who spoke in tongues and experienced all sorts of gifts, that still deconstructed. I have my faith, all I am saying is that I would love to see and hear from people that went through this, and persnally I have no doubt these people are out there. I respect that you believe otherwise, but we simply disagree here.. I even know someone who had an NDE and still remaines a nracistic person. And the other things is, truth, or the TRUTH of the light of the Lord, still means something diffrerent to different people. How to actually know what is truth is a very important topic. But supernatural experiences can be deceptive when it comes to dertermine what is truth and what not, and thats even something we find in the Bible.. I just remain curious and open minded about it.
@ I’m glad to hear you have your faith. The extra context is appreciated. Yes you’re right people do have spiritual experiences outside of Christianity, I have no doubt about that. But I am confused on what your faith is in I suppose. What is your faith in? Do you believe the Bible is the truth? Do you think there is an ultimate truth, or that different peoples truths can be true all at once? Genuinely asking. I also find interesting what people believe and why. But through my own experience with darkness of exploring other truths and the testimony of others I have come to draw serious conclusions on what is deception of light and what truly is. I am curious if you have drawn any.
When I consider how much of the Jesus narrative is borrowed from Homer’s popular Epic, The Odyssey, I have the tendency to connect King Odysseus’ recovery entrance into Troy inside the giant horse as a trope reworked for the Hebrew gospels. Meaning, the significance of Christ the king entering through the gates on a horse of sorts may have been enough for the Hellenized people of the time to get the message. Jesus was channeling Odysseus and his desire to overtake the city.
@@iMrAsonohey that’s okay too. I’m sure you know plenty that I don’t. And my interpretation of the trope of “a king entering a city to rescue a woman” could be wrong. But it’s not uncommon for the Christ to address the church ( a group of 3 or more meeting in his name) as a female bride, even though the groups were mixed. Tropes are often adapted to new stories and not rigidly applied. Using the trope in a pliable manner while still keeping it recognizable was the artistry.
Fantastic interview but I wanted to hear more from Justin without lengthy annoying interruptions from Derek😊 One thing I've observed from my own "deconstruction" is most religions are just a vehicle to support a 'priest class'. It feeds and clothes them, frequently in luxury. They reinvent the rules to maintain their authority as pseudo mediators between God and their flock. Jehovah's Witnesses Governing Body are a prime example of this
Good stuff! One thing I do like about preterism or Israel Only teachings is that it’s recognizing that the Bible was written to Israel only. We put this all together and boom! Some of the pieces come together
I respect your honest exploration of your studies and analysis. It is enheartening to me. I am not a scholar but a follower of my heart and have been on a great adventure since a Christian fundamentalist childhood, (fortunately taught that Jesus/God is within me) guided inwardly to meditation, mysticism, Essenes, Rosicrucianism, Sanatana Dharma/Vedanta, Buddhism; in my 70s now, primarily I am drawn to gnosis and mysticism. 🎉❤😂

Just sitting here listening to my story coming out of someone else's mouth. I was a youth pastor. Went to a local Anglican seminary to get my MDiv and "check the box" for ministry. And got my ass kicked by actually learning to read the Bible (esp. in the original languages). For me the issue of canon was HUGE too. Like, who cares if the Bible is inerrant if we're not even talking about the same Bible! And all the Ravi and John Lennox and Lee Strobels in the world couldn't fix a belief that was rotten to begin with. BTW- I love that he started reading Ehrman to get ready to debate him and got deconverted 🤣
Oh my gosh. I am reading Isaiah right now and it is so clear that Messianic prophesies were fulfilled in the new testament. I guess if you just don't want to believe you won't. For anyone really struggling to find the truth, please call out to God and He will show you the truth as you seek Him in scripture. He is real! And having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the most wonderful thing in the world. There is one person out of many mockers who is reading this comment and really desiring the truth. You will find Him.
@tammy9597 You are the perfect person to call into Justin's next live stream to support the fulfillment of Messianic prophesies. 1 Peter 3:15 urges you to show your faith by being willing to do this.
I can say without a doubt that anyone who has never had a real spiritual encounter are often times the ones found on the fence when it comes to The Father, Jesus and the Comforter. "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened." Mat: 7:7-8.
@@shivadizayin hi. Hopefully I can answer your question. John 19:14 says Pilot was still talking to the Jews at noon (6th hour) on the preparation day of the Passover. Mark 15:25 says that Jesus was crucified at 9 in the morning (3rd hour), and that from noon (6th hour) till three (9th hour) there was a great darkness over the whole land. Luke 22:7-8 says that the last supper took place on the day of preparation for the Passover, which means Jesus was crucified on the Passover and not the day of preparation for the Passover. In Matthew 28:10 Jesus tells the women at the tomb to tell the disciples to meet him in Galilee. And in verse 16 they go there and meet him on a mountain top. However in Luke 24:13 Jesus appears to two of his disciples on the road to Emmaus, then the all of his disciples in Jerusalem that night (verse 36), and then ascended a few hours later that night (verse 50). Not only did the disciples not go to Galilee before the ascension, but Jesus even told them to stay in Jerusalem till they are clothed in power from on high (verse 49). In the book of Acts (same author) which continues the story, the disciples stay in Jerusalem for 40 days. In Acts 1:4 it recaps Jesus telling them not to leave Jerusalem till Pentacost. The rest of the chapter describes how the disciples stay in Jerusalem till Pentacost. Another contradiction concerns the stone covering the tomb entrance. Luke 24:2 says when the women got to the tomb, the stone was already rolled away. However Matthew 28:1-2 says the women went to the tomb, then there was a great earthquake and an angel descended and rolled the stone away. Mark 16:4 agrees with Luke in saying the stone was already rolled away before the women got there. John 20:1 also says the stone was rolled away before Mary Magdelene got to the tomb. Also, the suicide of Judas in Matthew 27 and Acts 1 contradict each other on how Judas died, what he did with the money, who bought the Potter's field, and why it's called "The field of blood". If you're wondering about any other biblical contradictions, I'm happy to share. Thanks.

This is why religion is renewed from age to age:

Similar statements are found in all world religions. My point is, the ancient religions have had their cycles, and now they can no longer provide the necessary impulse for the next stage of human or spiritual evolution.

Justin is apologist kryptonite -- been binging on his content for a couple weeks now. Fantastic stuff -- really happy to this collaboration. Nice work, both of you.
The apologists worst nightmare
Love that "kryptonite" analogy. The indoctrinated folk's dogma withers when Justin focuses them on EXACTLY what the ancient storybook has written within it. One can tell these apologists simply have eaten the prechewed words (gag) from p-ass-tors who make a living CONfidently telling half truths (lies) to soft of thinking sheeple.
Not really but if you listen to this guy 😬
If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me."
Instead, what Justin found from seeking God was that Jesus was not the promised Jewish Messiah. This would have been the easiest thing ever for a real God to clear up at any point for Justin, yet he never did. And still doesn't.
This is what is most telling, not the apologetics or counter-apologetics.
What you described is exactly the path (broad brushstrokes, of course) that so many of us trod on our way out of Christianity.
I am a former atheist who read the Bible out of curiosity. I can confirm Jesus and the Bible are true. I repented from my sin and put my faith in Jesus. "I am a former atheist who read the Avesta of Zarathushtra out of curiosity. I can confirm Ahura Mazda and the Avesta are true. I repented from my sins and put my faith in Ahura Mazda.

See, no empirical demonstrable evidence supported by objectively verifiable facts to substantiate the claim necessary!

The works of persons as Justin, Paul, and Mauro (these are the three I know) should hint us all that when the time has not yet arrived, a christian in the vice-grip of christianity will never get out irrespective of the person's IQ level. It is beyond reason.

Still went to Mass every week until my faith vanished overnight. It was assumed I would become a priest at one point...
😯 The United States is very religious, so there's a job market for people with Masrer's of divinity and PhDs in theology and stuff like that.
Ah yes, the shortage of tech workers is clearly down to "religion" - nothing to do with the crushing debt people incur for degrees that promise no real job security. Nothing to do with the neoliberal capitalist obsession with outsourcing labor to the Global South for maximum profit. Why hold the capitalist class accountable when you can pin it on a convenient scapegoat like "religion," a force that won’t disappear overnight, instead of actually grasping how the economy functions?

hallel-ujah, from the root HALEL which is the hebrew etymology for the word "LUCIFER" in Isaiah. Justin's deconstruction is on MythVision. My deconstruction world comes full circle.
I discovered this guy 2 months ago and he is my favourite religious call in content I have ever watched. I think it must be how respectful and knowledgeable he is. It’s like any route they take, he is there waiting for them to catchup.

As these "atheist" channels grow and coalesce with presenting knowledge and logic to the world...I really hope religion disappears as reason (and sanity) prevail !!

This story of the journey from religion to non-belief is very good. I am enjoying it a lot.
I ❤ Justin. As a Christian I am a long-time supporter of him. He has actually taught me more than some Christian “leaders” have by forcing me to really look at what I believe and not just blindly follow what I have been told. We may not hold the same beliefs but I hold him in very high regard. ❤
Fuckin love Deconstruction Zone! Can't wait to see more debates with popular apologists.
I enjoyed your guest, Justine. He's a lovely guy. This conversation was thoroughly enjoyable and informative.
Wow! Two of my favorites together!
Excellent conversation! This is what happens when you bat away confirmation bias and look at the facts as disinterestedly as possible. Both of you get to look in the mirror and know you kept your intellectual integrity intact.
I love Justin's debate methods. He doesn't let theists pivot and/or change the meaning of words in the Bible to make it say what they want it to say.
All I disagree with him on is him attacking flat Earthers and saying he loves animals yet eats them
@@A.HWasRight attacking? Ironic, considering the comment you responded to.
His work through the bible totally deconstructs the history of humans
Fascinating indeed

+30 years ago before all this "new" research I was being drawn into ministry and started studying this from books such as concordances, various commentaries, translations, along with historical and archaeological encyclopaedias and research. When I started reading into the origins of the old Testament and the origins of the multiple creation narratives, etc, the ministry and church lost me completely.
When faith, at its core, is beLIEving what one is told is "The Truth(tm)", nothing clears an open, logical mind than reading where the doctrine comes from !!
Great job putting in the work !!!

Calvinism has it right. If you're not meant to believe, you can't & won't believe. But if you're meant to believe, you'll be irresistibly drawn to faith in Christ by The Father, via The Holy Spirit.
It comes down to truth vs comfort, religious people choose comfort.

Did she say alllllllllll Christians who left Christianity were abused or illiterate? No she didn't did she.
Jesus and Odysseus are not alike
You should learn and compare both stories. Besides that, I never said they are the same. I’m saying they are using Homeric tropes. Got it?
@@solomonessix6909 I’ve read both stories. My analysis of the comparison is that not even the themes are alike lol
@@iMrAsonono disrespect intended

Fantastic interview but I wanted to hear more from Justin without lengthy annoying interruptions from Derek😊
One thing I've observed from my own "deconstruction" is most religions are just a vehicle to support a 'priest class'. It feeds and clothes them, frequently in luxury. They reinvent the rules to maintain their authority as pseudo mediators between God and their flock. Jehovah's Witnesses Governing Body are a prime example of this
Why don't you just study the Bible

He is real! "... we don't have to make excuses when we see something." A moment of genius! Thank you, Derek.
What do you see?
@@shivadizayin I believe he is referring to seeing contradictions within the Gospels.
@ ok…
Which ones ?
Thanks.
