Not the worst Camaro I have ever seen. I would own that one if the money was right. The rear frame rails replacements and floor pans are available. That car looks to be mostly complete ( but i didnt see the interior) and that is one of the best things about it.
The other shop didn't want to touch it because they either didn't have a good enough tech to do it or they're too busy with "easy" work and didn't want to spend any time. They probably did the owner a big favour because I've seen what happens when shops that shouldn't tackle electrical issues do. They'll spend hours trying to diagnose the problem and trying to justify the bill to the customer. Your methodical and logical approach was spot on.
Motor sounds good! Ya know… as a guy who runs a shop I can tell you firsthand that if I cannot locate, diagnose, or have certainty about any particular issue that a car is having -I will tell you “I don’t know for certain.” 🤷🏻♂️ Not wanting to work on a particular car is common. Not being able to work on someone’s car because (you’re being realistic, and respectful to the customer by letting them know-you won’t be able to get to it within a reasonable amount of time) due to currently having too many waiting in line ahead of it and making the suggestion to the customer your car will get attention sooner at a shop less busy. I find those reasons acceptable for turning a customer away. However, when you choose to make a uninformed statement about the status of a vehicle that has not been thoroughly examined -opens you up to scrutiny…especially when your statement is proved wrong! Especially such a potentially damaging, costly, and irresponsible statement/claim! That statement had the potential to influence the owner-to cut his losses, abandon any future efforts on that project and get rid of the car! The car could’ve ended up parted out, scrap metal …who knows! The shop who previously had the Camaro missed an opportunity to do right by that customer. I’m willing to bet they had a great deal of anxiety and embarrassment when they were informed the car was going to a highly respected classic car shop-AND RIGHTLY SO! Well done Kiwi👏👏👏😊! Honesty makes life so much easier…doesn’t it 🤷🏻♂️
Interesting! In the US, plastic bumpers didn't arrive on Camaros until 1978. (My first car was a '76 - with chrome bumpers.) This car seems to have the normal 1976 chrome bumper on the rear, but a later plastic bumper up front. I wonder if somebody did some "custom" work? From underneath, it appears that some of the "newness has worn off" of that plastic front bumper too!
Outside of the structural rust, that's pretty much an ideal car to have some fun with in a world full of cell phones and door dingers. Hopefully the owner gets a few more smiles out of it. 👍
Miss my 78 Camaro. It was a rusty piece of crap with a 250 straight 6 and an automatic. But i loved it. Im from Ohio. Rust doesn't scare me. I'd love to have that car.
In France shops have an obligation of result, which means that the moment the quote was approved and they start the work, it must come out fixed. And in many cases they don’t want to bother with an uncertain diag that will take time, so they will say it needs a new engine or who knows what either to scare off the customer away, or to not bother spending time diagnosing. I’ve seen that so many times with people with little knowledge about cars. They end up fixing what’s not broken and spending so much money…
Hi Kiwi. I had a 75' camaro and the leaf springs weren't even attached to the frame in front of the axle. I drove it I just didn't jump any railroad tracks!.
Interesting to see they put a 78-81 front bumper on it. It's definitely been ratted up a little, but still has potential...assuming they do something about the frame rust...yikes!! A 9 minute revival....good job, Kiwi!! 👍
I can think of a few cars I got for cheap because the owner or the shops couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. One was a 1985 volvo 240 turbo. I love those cars. But the fuel pump went out so they had it replaced and it just wouldn't start afterwards. It took me maybe 10 minutes to figure out they had the wires reversed so the motor was trying to push gas back into the tank instead of the other way around lol. I figured they heard the pump coming on and figured it was good to go.
I was a kid back then, but IIRC, in '76 there were no O2 sensors or emissions testing and very few aftermarket cats. Seems pretty unusual (in my experience in the 80s) to spend the kind of money dual converters would have required when you could have easily left them off back then. Makes me wonder if it might have been some sort of project car for a magazine or performance company once upon a time.
I prefer the front cliffs of the 74 through 77 versus the 78 through I think it was 82.. my favorite course is the split bumper at the beginning of decade. Great job on moving the car in the positive direction ⬆️
For what it's worth, I had a Ford 302 that sat on an engine stand indoors for decades. I appeared to be locked up. Long story short, the carbon from the combustion chambers fell off and created a piston stop of sorts. Had to pull a head to figure it out. Wierd that it fired without 20 minutes of cranking and pumping the pedal.

Got a built 357ci sbc forged rotating assy and roller cam with Brodix Dragon Slayer heads just waiting for one. 😂
@@hollowell427 Glad you got something to spin wrenches on! Best therapy on the planet. I've had to sell a couple of cars off when life got in the way but I've held on to my coupe for 37 yrs through it all.
You're too kind Kiwi. A running engine is a good starting point but that thing has unsafe vehicle written all over it.
I think I'll be seeing this one again. This was just today's mission!
I can't believe my 1975 Buick LeSabre has a catalytic converter
No yers shops that tell you i junk and we hall off or tell storage fees the not now take up
Of course it was going to start, it's a Chevy isn't it.😎👍

Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
No, that is a FORD! 😨😨😨
I'm afraid not bud...🤣😂
Parts is parts. 1977 rear end with a 1978 and up front end. What is it really?
It's really a 76 with a 78 front clip
The Wonder From Down Under comes through again...get that man a bourbon! The owner of that car just found his new mechanic
Cheers mate!!
How old is the fuel?… I wrecked a freshly rebuilt motor with old fuel once… Never make that mistake again.
Jacked out rocker studs, bent push rods, destroyed a cam.
It last ran in October last year. So not fresh but acceptable.
If its a 76 were is the front Bumper
It's a 76 with a 78 ish front clip
Good bones, needs work, worth saving.
Yeah I think so!
That is not a 1976 Camaro, it's somewhere in the 78 -81 era
It's 76 with a 78 front clip
It's probably best that you didn't take this one for a test drive, Kiwi!
No that wasn't an option for me.! The tires are bad !!!
So the owner brings it to the tire shop to get it running but owner skips out of there without tires. Put tires on her kiwi..
I've told him I wouldn't drive test drive !!
Its deed!
😁😎👍
