- Today I get to work on a 66 Barracuda Formula S. Upgrade the brakes, bolt the steering box back in and a little bit of fine tuning. Then the pay off, a quick cruise around in a classic Mopar!!

How do you not love a car where such attention to detail was paid when keeping it factory stock. Thanks for sharing, Kiwi!
Exactly! Thanks for watching!!
Wow that is a very nice Barracuda Kiwi, that thing is like factory. Unbelievable how it doesn't have any rust anywhere. I really enjoyed you showing this one mate.
My thoughts exactly
Mopar A Bodies Forever!!!
🇺🇸
A bodies and Surburbans!! 😬😁😎👍
Who wouldn't love to find this under the tree christmas morning?
nice to see an old one.....still look'n new...!..that is a rare bird...!...thanks Kiwi...
Love the 273 V8 had a factory VC V8 in the late 70s Spanish 🇪🇸 red with black vinyl top deep dish rims with the V8 caps heads exhaust modes and carb sway bars put many brand X to shame with bigger motors . Nice 👍🏻 car you got to work on MOPAR for life 👍🏻🇦🇺.
Sweet little car. If I WAS a Mopar guy, this would be the one. Props to whoever installed exhaust system, very impressive routing.
It's a nicely done car no doubt!!
Nice car
I will share this video
It’s the button under this video that says share
😬
And it doesn't have an ECM!😆
I just love driving my 1966 Barracuda. There is something about these cars that you cant really understand unless you drive one. I guess the best way I can put it, is they are happy feeling little cars. They arent fire breathing muscle cars, but just really really fun little cars.
Nice video Kiwi! She has had a proud history!
Nice car.👍👍
Certainly a survivor.
Thanks for sharing.
What a NICE car! The owner is very lucky to have both a first generation Barracuda in such wonderful condition, and to have YOU to inspect it & tend to any small issues it might have. I so wish you were closer to give the once-over to my 1959 Rambler American Super.
Thanks for showing us that Barracuda ! Was looking all over fer yer pet Kiwi... maybe he was hiding in the tool box... i know he's there somewhere....
One of his many days off🙄
I'm a GM guy. But who doesn't love an old Mopar
Especially a well loved one !!
nice little car. glad to see it was kept as original as possible with sane modifications. resto mods and customs are nice, but i dig these original cars a little more
Such a rare car and so nice to see- thanks Kiwi
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍. I remember this car when I was a kid , not a fan then ! But age can change your view , I fine it interesting design & cool ! 👀😎👍
Its refreshing to see a car so well maintained inside and out, I'm not a big fan of these older "Valiant style" Barracudas but this is an excellent example.
It really is!
I loved this body style, and it doesn't bother me that they couldn't fit the larger V8- they truly were/are Classic Mopars !
A pleasure to see .Cheers
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching!!
Glad to see it’s staying all original
Agreed !!
Oooooooooooh carrabudha. Love these.
Very nice Barracuda. Thanks for sharing.
Those Chrysler Corporation compacts were adorable, until the 1967 model year where cheapened interior materials began substituting traditional trim.
I used to own several ('63 Dart hardtop, 2 '66 Valiant 2-door sedans, '63 4-door Valaint and a '65 Barracuda 273 2-barreled engine), buying them cheap.
Torsion bar suspension made them ride nice and they all were dependable. I ended up getting rid of my Barracuda, only because I and the seller thought that the frame at the front right was bent. Uncle Tony recently explained that a loosened suspension fastener gave this impression and that it was easilly repairable.
I can't imagine that a limited-slip differential would be an option on a Formula S. Although, General Motors reserved limited-slip on their top of the line luxury hotrods as options. So, who knows
The Sure Grip differential was an option. The 7 1/4 axle is notoriously weak, again, designed for the six, but if it’s still fitted with the original Spicer Power Lok 4 pinion differential, it goes a long way to making it live. It’s a beautiful car, and that’s a nice looking exhaust system.
The best part of Kiwis job--driving everyone else's car!😎
Absolutely !!!!😁😎👍
That is a rare car. Very nice to see.
Thanks for watching
You sure picked a lovely part of the world to live in Kiwi!
Nice to see a good one!
I have a day 2 survivor 65 Dart GT with the 273.Im in love with that jewel of an engine.Theyre like magic.Nothing sounds like it
What a nice Barracuda. Shame you don't see more of these.
It really is!! Thanks for watching!!
Nice car. I spent many years riding in the family’s AP6 Valiant Safari wagon and recognise so many details that are the same. Great to see.
I had a '65 Dart GT back in the day that was equivalent to the Barracuda S. I had the factory Hurst shifter as opposed to the Inland shifter that this car has. Mine was 273 hp with the single 2 3/4" exhaust pipe and square resonator out back with the Sure Grip diff, white with blue interior. Absolutely loved that car. The exhaust note was perfect. Would love to have that one back.
Gorgeous car in super condition. You can tell it’s fun to drive too.
It really is!
My Dad bought this very same car! Except that it had a console automatic. Same colors and interior! But it was used in 1969! Paid $1600 for it, minus trading in a '54 Chevy Bel Air! Fast forward to 1972, I turned 16 and I wanted this car badly! My Dad traded in on a new Plymouth Fury! Damn!
Ahh that's too bad!! Cool story!
Oh yeah, that's the car I seen on UTG a few days ago. Muscle Car Brakes has ceramic brake shoes that are supposed to stop 50% better than part store shoes.😎👍
Love the 63 to 66 Mopar A bodies, I have had 4. Would love to own that 66 cuda.
Being a fellow Kiwi love the kiwi-isms of Kiwi ! I am sure whenever you see one of these like me you just think fast back aussie Valiant AP6 straight away ! I can remember seeing a few of these Barracudas when I was a kid in Auckland , they must have been imported new, not sure whether they were V8 or slant six, they just looked so fantastic with that huge curved rear window, that must be interesting to replace glass on ! Have a good spring as we go into Winter !
I had an AP6 sedan back in the day. I thought it was fast😬. Thanks for watching
Wow, what a great car, I love it, another Kiwi success story. My goal is to bring my Mustang of that same year up to the same level.
If the real thing won't due the trick , you bettah make up some thing quick ! Whoah ! Barracuda !😎🍦😊
You are all Heart.
@@derekbowbrick6233 😂
I think kiwi needs to add this one to his own fleet
Hmmm🤔.
Bloody great cars
Simple and reliable!!
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 I got one here in oz, what’s the guy wanting for that one?
@@garthharris8721 $27,900
Stunning car
Hard to find them this solid!!
Highland green might be a Ford colour but done right looks good on any classic car.👍
Nice . 😊 I picked up a1964 with the 225 Commando auto trans. For $250.00 in tow auction in the late 90s. It had the sport turn lights in the grill and console shift set on the floor silver paint black interior. All stock so not as nice back than but still good looking. To everyone except the wife? So a year later I sold it to a work friend and he drove it from Seattle to San-Fran and smoked the rings like I told him it would . But I got $1500 and I'm sure he got more in Cal'y 😂
Like you I stuck to my Mercury's two 67 Cougars and a 68 Mercury Montego MX that we have owned since 1998. Sold the 57 slab-side Custom-cab with original Chrome bumpers front and rear along with the 67 Ford Fairlain 500 2 door. After buying our Home.
Fun Fact; the 68 Montego weighs almost exactly the same as the 67 Cougar.
Just a Boy and his Toys life style.
Cool story, thanks for sharing!!
Nice video opening kiwi... very professional
gorgeous car, my aunt had the same year same color with slant 6 auto .. my cuz wrecked the front end pretty good, of course everyone wishes they had hung onto them regardless, all about space
Looking back there aren't many cars I'd sell if I had a do over. Don't where I'd put them though.......
Such a sweet car, brother. You guys are doing great things. Keep up the awesome content.
In about 1980 I was working with a girl who bought one of these, a '65. She only had it for a few weeks when somebody shot out the rear window. Even then a replacement was impossible to find. Essentially totalled it.
Kiwi looks best in any old Mopar👍🏻👀😎
Marge agrees😉😝
Companion car to my 66 Dart GT... 235 hp 273 with 4 spd. Super driver :--)
Looks so smooth, what a nice car!
Hey Kiwi,
Tim here, i'm a pure Poncho dude, but BOY that 'cuda is SWEEEEET!!!......just right.....i'd LOVE to have it!!!......ENJOYED the vid for SURE!!!!....TY sir!!....PEACE to you!!
Damned that is clean original!
It looked like the brake cable,is touching the driveshaft.
It does with the suspension hanging. All good under normal ride height
Good stuff. Always liked that year style.
They are cool!!
Dark green absolutely works for me .
*SureGrip* , Kiwi. Mopars have SureGrips, not "posi" or "limited slip" (GM terms).
Sweetheart of a car right there!
- Ed on the Ridge
Love these gen I barracudas. I’m restoring a 65 formula S.
Nice!! Have fun!
Love these Barracudas'! I had a 64 and a 66, fun cars! The big problem was rust, nice to see a non rusty example!
Nice car!
First On Recovery Day! 😂😂😂
😎👍
Nice car, my Dart had the turn signals on the fenders option too. 👍
Bet they look good at night!
Sweet as Bro.
Nice! Kiwi's Cool Classic 'Cuda!
That's a sano little cream puff. Thanks for the great video Kiwi.
The precursor "Ponycar." ...Famous back glass and all... Mustang styling and sales blew the '64 through '69 Barracuda out of the water.🤣 I'm a Ford Man but I must say that Barracuda is so ugly, it's beautiful! Great find!
I've got a 67 Barracuda convertible with the 273 Commando and it's got the Hipo exhaust with the original resonator.
Nice!!!
Kiwi, IIRC those front brakes are from a '73 or newer style A -body. The factory correct discs for this would have been a Kelsey Hayes 4 piston caliper set up....really cool and getting harder and harder to source......the ones they put on this Barracuda are definately more practical and bountiful and probably work as good if not better than the 4 pot units.. Very nice car for sure....Thanks as always for sharing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ahh ok, so they had the Kelsey Hayes like the early Mustangs? I could tell they were Mopar pieces and not aftermarket adapted stuff.
Very quiet car!
Yes!!
Fabulous
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
The other MOPAR, the Signet? That was a cool ride too
Yes!!!
Another example of the saying in the Mopar world “only the green survive “.
Haven't heard that one but yeah it makes sense
You guy's are killing me! Lol Dr. Art rebuilding the 318, uncle Tony the mopar man, now this formula S. I had to sell the Dart gts I restored before I moved to Georgia from Florida. Numbers matching 340 x heads and block 4 speed with a 3:55 auburn cone 8 3/4. Man that was a fun car!
Aww that's gotta burn!! Those are nice!!!
I see these early barracudas getting a lot more attention lately.
Yes they are!!
Valiant,, give them more caster and 1/2 a degree of camber. Will make them drive a lot nicer. 7" rims and suitable tyres will help,, a LOT.
Yes it would!!
My dad had one almost just like it seeing the inside brings back some memories
I'm glad it brought back some memories for you! Dads are special!!
Dashboard interior shot brings back some memories logged a few miles in several of these baracudas
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Very, nice car!
Can't believe how nice a survivor it is for all those original to be so nice
It brakes all the norms
It's such a good honest car!!
What a nice survivor
I really like a nice original or at least been repaired rebuilt and maybe optioned up with factory parts.
You don't see the 7-1/4 sure grips every day but they're around. I have one in my 71 Valiant I got out of a 66 Valiant.
Yeah I was surprised to see that
I had one like that when I was 17 but it was blue on blue with auto trans.
Sweet car and in today's market I can't say that I am not tempted to pay that much for a true original survivor.
They're getting harder and harder to find!
back in the day I was always intrigued by the large bore single exhuast on A-body MoPars. Seemed very "European" like a "big Healy" or Jaguar XK
The sound that exhaust made was what I considered perfect and I liked the look too.
Yeah that's a real nice car. Is it for sale? Looks like there's for sale signs in the back window.👍👍🙂🇨🇦
Yes it is, $27,900
That's not a bad price for that car
The original first gear ratio on this drivetrain would be a 3.08 as I remember, which is anything but tall. Even if it had a later A body 4 speed installed, that’s still 2.66, which isn’t in close ratio territory either. I don’t know what’s possible these days, but those were your options in the 60’s
Well driving it 1st gear was pretty tall 🤷🏼♂️
I dozed interested back of one of these(campground in New Hampshire), spell check...in the not " interested".that morning I was Jimmy under glass
😂🤣 baked Jimmy under glass!!
Ah, a smaller master cylinder bore = an easier pedal - I'd assumed the opposite! I'd think that a larger piston in a master cylinder would equate to higher fluid pressure.
That's noice!
Looking at that dash, it's the same dash I have in my '67 VC Valiant here in Australia, obviously the reverse for RHD. It's interesting to see how much cross over there is in the US v's AUS variants of the Chrysler vehicles. Very clean example that has obviously been well looked after over the years.
Brother from another mother😎👍
Very nice Barracuda, it's in great condition. Shouldn't the rear axle housing have a ventilation bolt on the brake distribution block? I noticed a normal bolt on there. My 69 had a normal bolt too, but you would think the pressure that builds up forces the pinion seal to leak.
Hmm.. good question!
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 After taking a better look at it, the 7 1/4 rears apparently don't need the vent bolt, as there is literally right next to it a welded on cover, that acts as the vent. So never mind!
I had one in dark blue.
I went through 10 minutes of thinking they were cool about 10 yrs ago when I found a project for sale. Then I realized it was a fastback valiant, and the values are the same!
And no desirabity Lol but that back window and the iinteriors were suoer cool and 60s sports car like
The desirability is gaining!
👌🏼⛽️
🥃 bourbon o'clock. Cheers mate!
Got a 67 had since new rotting into the ground in Florida
My 66 Coronet has a 273. I rebuilt it stock but should have done the high compression pistons.
It’s a great cars simple
Yes indeed, thanks for watching!!
Fun car too get 2nd gear rubber!!!!
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
That's what i say when i get in my car, this is noice lol
lol. Are you making fun of me...??😁👍😎
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Naw it's what i say too😂
Its a .better car than any mustang ever was
A great little car no doubt !!
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 it's great to see a man who loves mustang s and fords appreciate other brands as well I took a dislike to mustangs in the early 70 when the local ford dealer had one in for repairs and a family friend showed me how thay did not compare in the body structure and strength to the Australian falcon of the same year and watching some of your repairs only reinforced my opinion on how tinny thay are but that's just my opinion and each to their own..
Are you a trained body man or a mechanic either one you do great work
All the best from a .gmh bloke
