I love that this video has a lot of civ 6 references :) perfect for this channel! You make killer videos! glad i watched that dave wiskus interview with you so i could find this.
I know there are far, far fewer civilization games than RPGs, but one of the many things I like about TierZoo is the diversity of its video game references, while these videos so far seem to draw almost exclusively from Civ VI. More references might be nice. I've also noticed these videos are much more narrative and focused than TierZoo's. That's not a bad thing, it's just interesting.
I love this channel. It is just so high quality and I think that it will blow up anytime. Keep up the good work, also I’d love to see a video about the Aztecs or mesoamerica
Brother! How did I just now figure out you had this channel aswell?! I've been devouring your every Tier Zoo videos for years! Big up my guy! One of the best YT creators out there!
This is incredible content! Please keep this content coming, this is the kind of historical information we need packaged in the perfect formula. Cannot wait for the next video!
What an incredible video. From the illustrations to the sound effects everything just works perfectly! Keep up the good work. A loyal subscriber earned.
First time viewer here! The content you produce is so amazing and high quality that I thought you would have more subscribers, but I was shocked to learn otherwise! Anyways, I'm here to do my part by subscribing, and I seriously hope this channel blows up in popularity because you deserve it!
Whilst a bit historically inaccurate (longships were primarily developed and used for trade, becoming a vikingr was notable but not what the majority of Scandinavian's did. Also whilst Normandy was founded and named after the vikings (North-mans), their culture and military tactics were much more influenced by the Frankish kingdom, which you can see by comparing the way they fought: heavy cavalry, combined with infantry and archers vs the way the Norwegians fought at Stamford bridge: Heavy & Light infantry, using the shieldwall tactic.), I really like the artstyle and hope these videos are a good way to teach kids about history from games.
@@samuelfoster8615 No. I just don't like seeing leather-clad bikers pretending to be Vikings. I also don't like seeing the history of my country being rewritten and having everyone who watched believe everything they saw was real. The king of my country died in the series to fratricide. That didn't happen. He grew old, ruled over Denmark for the rest of his life, and had a child who would come to rule over all of Denmark, Norway, and England simultaneously. But no, in the series, he dies as a teenager in England.
@@Thor.Jorgensen The TV show is obviously fiction. The show literally has magic in it. I'm surprised anyone believed this show was based on reality. Also I don't understand why you care about the history of your country. It's in the past, move on
@@samuelfoster8615 The show does not literally have magic. Don't lie to me. Vikings believed in magic, but that does not mean that the magic was real. The show presents itself as historically accurate, it depicts historical events, and it displays the year all these events are supposed to take place. Vikings were not tatooed, scalp-shaven, leather jacket with metal stud-wearing, bikers. I'd believe you'd see people like that in New Jersy, but not in Viking age Denmark or England.
WHAT????? How did I not know of this channel before???? I kept waiting months for more TierZoo and only now I found out he's into history and I had a new channel to binge watch???? Edit: Oh no, he's only got 2 videos yet =(
There were a lot of inaccuracies in this video, but overall it's still informative. The Vikings did not engage in naval combat. There simply weren't enough rival ships for them to encounter any. It happened once or twice, but it was the exception rather than the norm. And even then, it only happened against local rivaling Viking chiefdoms. About as often as you'd see a pig painted with black and purple stripes today. Pretty unheard of. The Viking longboats weren't expensive. Making the ships from entire trees rather than cutting up the entire tree was just a different technique. You'd still need numerous trees to make an entire ship. Longboats could be made abroad on the spot, as long as they had enough trees around them. Meaning they were simple and quick to make. They were cheaper, faster to produce, speedier, and much sturdier than any other ship at the time.
@@jeffreygao3956 They didn't fight them. Vikings were defined by their ships. They stayed in or near their ships at all times. They relied on surprise invasions or hit-and-run tactics. They only targeted wealthy locations where they had the advantage, where they knew they would win. The Vikings fought smart. The Magyars were, like the Vikings, an Achilles heel to civilized nations who did not know how to properly defend against their attacks. This was before grand castles and city fortifications were built. They simply did not have time to spend days or weeks gathering levies to fight against the attackers, and by the time they did gather a levy, the attackers were gone. The Vikings did not interact much with the Magyars as they were strong but poor. This made them the least interesting people to interact with for them. The Vikings did interact with the Arabs, though, who were wealthy and well-defended. But instead of raiding the Arabs, the Vikings traded with them, commonly selling monks as eunuchs, as the monks were literate and could be used for copying or translating books. The Arabs also had goods that the Vikings would sell to other people through regular commerce since the Vikings had the perfect ships for the job, and they could trade with cities far down shallow rivers too. The Vikings only fought the Irish, the Anglo-Saxons, the Germans, the Polish, the East Slavs, the South Slavs, the Italians, the Spanish, the Frisians, the Goths, and the Franks... Well, and of course, other Viking tribes. The Vikings in general, were a lot smarter than most people give them credit for. They were ruthless, but not much more ruthless than any other people at the time.
Kudos for tracing the links between the shipping tech and trade growth. Perhaps emphasize the difference between longship and knorr, the latter being a very different design, that could carry animals in a covered portion as well as a fair number of people of all ages. The discoveries and raids are well known, but the colonization, often across oceans was even more remarkable. Game players should be aware of the darker side. Vikings were notorious slave traders, often taking young women from Western Europe to the slave markets of the Middl
Sorry, the Middle East. The trade was so lucrative that today's archeologists are astounded by the size of the silver hoards they've discovered in Scandinavia. Note, silver, not gold. Vikings were true entrepreneurs, for they understood the importance of investing one's earning. Silver is fungible, gold is merely treasure.
Back then all people had was cloth metal wood pitch and lard, and putting it together people from Europe have found a way for conflicts in Australia to involve them. Now we have aluminum fossil fuel and plastic and it took me 32 years to be able to go from some shore on the west of north america to 2 hawiian islands to just look at a few things. Guess I better put more points into boats.

That's right; Saying all earlier High medieval Norse people are vikings is like saying "A 16th century Spanish person? You mean Conquistador!"
such an underrated channel
This channel is way too good!!!!!!!
an Expansion of your you tube empire... also I subscribed the moment I saw the MTG card boarder around the long boat. nice video
