Does the catcher really need to know the pitch? Most people don't throw fast enough to create a risk to the catcher for reacting too slowly to a pitch and missing the ball. Also the catcher should be able to see the arm action and seams of the ball correct? The catcher only has to catch the ball, the hitter has to decide if it is a strike and when and where to swing. I guess if you're throwing curveballs that hit the plate it's good for the catcher to prepare for the top spin bounce. But I just try to throw stuff that ends up in the strike zone anyways.
