James NotBond true, and crass wouldnt want to be on radio because of how much they hate government and illuminati. They want to be there own band not singned on record deal like sex pistols
This amazing band had a huge influence on me. First lp of them i got was "best before" and it was like a revelation, still in my first steps into punk and having an itchy to start a band. Anyway from their documentary i keep on finding out the overall huge influence David Bowie had on all of us .

+Good Sir Knight White I wasn't aware "punk" meant neck-beard pirates, sitting around in they're parents basements, stealing music, & commenting on that music.
MAN oh man we need a band like Crass and a song like this now more than ever!! "Fuck 'em! Chosen to make my stand/ Against what I feel is wrong with this land/ Just sit there on their rather fit ass/ Feeding off the sweat of less fortunate class." This line more than ever reflects the pathetically greedy, capitalistic state that this country is in today. This kind of content is what should be motivating our songwriters today, and not subjects like money, sex, hot bodies, and cars. :p
I think these guys are way underrated as musicians. They have some weird ass chord progressions and time signatures. The drummer is excellent. The music is like some techincal King Crimson shit.
And like king crimson, their existence also shaped the entire genre they belong to. King Crimson shaped prog rock and almost any prog rock band has loads of influence from them. Crass shaped punk and grind as we know it and there would be no anarcho without crass
I think playing music that sounds weird is actually pretty hard. Regardless of what you are playing the difficult part is hearing the music in a way that you can push out and in this case I think it would be hard for a lot of bands no matter their technique to be able to hear this music, hence why they have a cool original sound.
Seen them about 5 times at Trucks, a punk club in wigan with poison girls & Honey Bane had some great nights in that place getting covered in spit & beer 😅 but atmosphere was amazing still have a couple of album's, stations of the crass & feeding of the Five Thousand best memories ever 🙂
This is one of those bands that no one I know has even heard of, but damned if they didn't rock out when I played a cover of it for the local punk shows.
@samthomasmusic the drummer/originator of crass was a pretty well-off rich kid who wanted to start/participate in an art revolution...crass was not exactly a working class band (though steve ignorant was very much working class). Really, crass is more an example of how people with divergent backgrounds and interests can come together and feed a revolution. Rap has the same phenomena, though, so your point is still valid about the common ground.
I was listening to a NOFX live concert and Fat Mike gave Mel shit for this band, and he said Banned from the Roxy. So here I am. Not disappointed one bit.
punk is ideology, not music, music is just a medium, through which message is being sent, and as an ideology punk is about using your head by yourself, it is easy to understand but also easy to missunderstand, it"s not something you can read about on wikipedia, or see onTV, it"s something you have to realise, as soon as you start using your head, you are instant part of this ideology. without necessarily aplying a radical dress code, or even having any conections to punk music at all.
Agreed; most people dont "get" Crass at all. They werent a "band" in the usual meaning of the word. They used lyrics and their own sound to get the message across, in the same way as protesting with banners. They were geniuses, just most people didnt realise that. Apart from us. And I think you need to be "of a certain age" to understand that.
so great; great era this was. I loved Crass. they truly believed they could change things; such faith in your cause is so sadly lacking today. Is Anarchy still alive and kicking todsy? Sadly, its been replaced by a resounding Apathy:(
Fabulous. This strange creatures groans almost sound like words of slur. Research to study this rather amusing being will still require years to master.
not quite. the proper amount of gov't is freedom; a republic! pure anarchy is survival of the fittest. If you don't like me or my way of living and your tougher and pushy, I’m fucked. I wouldn't be free....and yes those people exist. a proper amount of gov't provides for all, protects all. the challenge human kind has had is finding or keeping a proper amount of gov't, they tend to grow to oppression and out of control. sad. I LOVE Crass! Great music!
Nope not what we are saying, it's more like get the facts understand its not cheesy Boston, its what was and still is going on in Britain at the time. It wasn't about how well they or cheese plays. You are not alone in not liking this song im sure. To say it sounds crap means you dont know the history or the meaning. this is musical art.
