I love characters like that:)
To put it simply, the world of Borderlands is a SF universe in which humanity has spread across the cosmos.
In space they found ruins of an ancient alien race called the Eridians, more specifically they found the Vaults, big extradimensional stashes containing sweet loot, or monsters, or both.
Of course, since Vaults are so cool everyone wants to get their hands on them, this includes corporations, bandit murder cults and of course Vault Hunters, Vault Hunters are basically adventurers that seek Vaults across the universe, the player characters usually are Vault Hunters.
Corporations seem to be the most powerful entities in this universe, they wage wars, rule planets, sell guns (except Anshin and Pangolin those sell shields), abandon people on mining colonies, and basically do what they want.
There are a lot of different corps, but here are the three that appeared in this video :
- Maliwan : Sell cool elemental weaponry, like rich people and "elegance", Katagawa is a dumbass.
- Atlas : Were the bad guys in Borderlands 1, didn't end well for them but Rhys managed to get them back on foot and they are nice now, they sell Auto-Aim guns (filthy casuals).
- Jakobs : Howdy pardner, would you be interested in a quality Jakobs revolver to get rid of those damn desperados ? Yeehaw ! Also Wainwright is gay with Hammerlock and they are perfect together so thumbs up.
And here's my favorite one (because I can do whatever the fuck I want) :
- Tediore : Are you poor ? Do you not have thumbs ? Do you like square guns that look like they were 3D printed (they are) ? For the same price as a gun from our competition you can have an endless supply of identical guns ! No need to reload, just throw your pistol in that guys' face, it explodes ! And if people thrash talk you because your weapon isn't as fancy as theirs, show them that quantity is actually superior to quality !
Also, there's Sirens, Sirens are women with special powers and magical blue tatoos, there can only be 6 of them in the universe at any given time, we know sirens are linked to the Eridians since they can boost their power with Eridium, a rare mineral linked to the Vaults, there may be more info about sirens in Borderlands 3 (since the main baddie is one and all that) but I didn't finish that game because interacting with Ava makes me want to kill myself more.
Borderlands 1 & 2 take place on Pandora, a backwater planet that was abandoned by the Dahl corporation for years, the problem is they left everyone on the planet when they left so people have survived by eating each other and generally having uncivil comportments, so it's pretty hostile.
Borderlands 3 decided that having an entire universe at the tip of your fingers and not using it was kinda dumb, so you travel from planet to planet during the course of the story.
Well... The Story of Borderlands... Where to begin? In some maybe not so far Future, humanity colonized distant planets, lawless mega-corporations took over and on one of these frontier planets, Pandora, there's a hidden vault full of alien tech EVERYBODY want's. The player takes the role of a citizen and vaulthunter of said outer space shithole fighting against crazy bandits, mutants, corperation goons, wierd ass local wildlife and so on to reach the vault while beeing guided by a mysterious "Angel". Doing so, you can field a plethora of diffrent boomsticks, explosives etc... There's also space magic! ... Borderlands is something one has to experience. Best start with the 1. Titel thou, it also has the best Intro imo.
Borderlands is Sci-fi series that focuses on people, known as Vault Hunters, from around the universe tracking down vaults that are said to contain things beyond your wildest dreams. By the time of 3 multiple vaults on the same planet have been opened up and we join vault Hunters from other games on their journey across the galaxy to fight a cult aiming to use the vaults to take over the said galaxy. All the while various companies that own different planets are fighting each other.
The different companies make guns mostly and one of the big selling points of the series is the companies swapping out parts between each other making billions of different randomly generated guns. The original world itself is also inspired by Mad Max but later ones have different themes.
Edit: Actually yeah Sci-Fantasy is more accurate because you have the Siren which are just superpowered women six of which can exist at a time. There are a bunch of other straight up magic stuff as well. Also the last set of intros is the intro of the game itself to show off the playable characters.
If you want to know the lore, there's lots of videos covering the lore that are short or long, take your pick.
So Wainwright jakobs and the reason it read, "yes THAT jakobs" is because in Borderlands. Jakobs is a well known gun manufacturer
