Alphacool Germany baby, never had problems with their stuff and the price is okay. (However RTX 30xx blocks were just average, EK nailed those because of the 20 degrees GDDR6X temp difference).
Coming from someone who designs botique custom keyboards, I believe I have a quote from a fellow designer that really sums it up: "Theres only so many ways to design an aluminum (or in this case nickel, copper, and acetyl) rectangle. The small stuff is what makes the difference."

You see this design is the only way to design a water block because it’s already there made my ek and your limited creativity on industrial design. Even ek has many different cpu block designs over the years but they decided to pick the most recent one do the exact copy for the obvious purpose 😂😂😂
There's at least 10 manufacturer's of liquid cooling parts, if that were true all of them would be called out for stealing each other's design, and yet they don't. Most actually implement distinctive elements in their designs that you can tell just by looking at it what brand it is, except Cooler Master in this case. Why is cooler master now being blatantly called out for stealing EK's design, whereas other manufacturer's have not? Well maybe because it's true. My guess as to why they blatantly stole EK's look would be, so they would save money on designing and so they could also charge a similar but slightly discounted EK price. Steal someone else's design as well as coat tail ride off their premium prices but slightly discounted. I'm pretty certain they will be making more per unit than EK even at lower prices looking at the rough finish of those blocks and rads. It's also an incredibly stupid idea to copy EK's design because it doesn't look like the rest of their products. Look at the design of the AIO, that looks like CM, and then u look at their custom copied EK products, and that looks different because it's an EK copy. Lack of integrity with their core design.
If cooler master integrates a way to swap the standoffs to match the platform so you don't have to buy a new block switching between AMD and Intel, then the design is genuinely good, regardless of similarity to EKWB. The fact that EK hasn't done this is what makes their current blocks an insulting cash grab considering they don't even perform as well as many other universal designs. There are only so many ways to design a block and to me, the design language is enough different not to immediately hate it as a carbon copy. The design of the square tube fittings is super ugly but the idea is good. I love the look of the square tube itself. If they design a more simple straight knurled finish with the same sharkbite style fitting for the square tube, I will absolutely buy them.
I like the design of the square fittings, but then I am weird is some ways. Lol. But yeah cm's design for the cpu block isn't bad has potential and is different enough to not look like a streight copy. It's clear they copied ek's homework but made it their own in the process, in a way you can't hate.
@@TheObsesedAnimeFreaksEveryone has their tastes and there is nothing weird about it. For me, they are just too busy. Busy fitting designs are difficult to integrate into a custom loop with other manufacturer's products. Ironically, the square fittings for the round tube are way more aesthetically pleasing even with the challenges they present due to their simpler design language. If they use a sharkbite fitting instead of one with the external clasps, the square tube fittings will look awesome.
Do you really switch between Intel and AMD CPUs that often? I can only see this being a use case for a test bench. I don't switch CPUs more than once every few years.
@extracurricularkitty3605 I build between 25-35 watercooling build a year for customers currently plus the occasional marketing build. It's incredibly useful to me to be able to buy blocks ahead of time without necessarily knowing the components used for the specific build. Even if that weren't the case, are you really not getting that being forced to buy a new block if you switch platforms is an unnecessary and, frankly, incredibly stupid overcomplication and additional expense that only exists in custom loop space?
For me the design on the EK copy isn't the problem. It's the fact they just outright went, that's a cool looking popular brand! Then just straight up copied it and made some slight changes after... They could of at least made the detachable piece look different. It is not an inspired design, it is a copied design, with slight alteration.
On one hand, CM copying EK means they can offer similar products at a different price range. On the other hand though, I would have liked to see something a lot more different. Credit where it’s deserved, their fittings and reservoirs didn’t look like direct copies, and while I’m personally more of a fan of round piping, I appreciate the option to go square. The radiators might be copied in looks, but that fin design was certainly different. To me, it looked amazing. Looked really clean and as they claim, likely more efficient. Would love to see some tests done on them.
The square tubing is an interesting idea, but one which I expect will bite them in the ass. There is a reason squaring tubing just isn't "a thing" anywhere (I don't mean just with PCs, I mean literally anywhere), and it's because sealing a round tube in a round hole is easy, and sealing something with corners is difficult. It'll be interesting to see how reliable they are, and if they suffer issues with leaking.
You know that Coolermaster has some of the most expensive cases on the market right? The only cheap cases they have are generic "made in China" looking ones, the rest are like $400-$1000. Theyr'e just gonna slap a similar price tag on it after saving money on designing it cuz they straight up stole EK's design.
20% more heat dissipation on the rads is interesting and would love see a review on those. I love the squared off fitting, aesthetically. Would be perfect look for what I want. I also wondered about if they would catch on things and wouldn't tighten enough. Didn't think about over tightening to line up, but I guess that is a concern too. Since I heard elsewhere they wouldn't be out till June or so, it's probably too late for my next build, so I don't have to worry about it

They also look thin? I dunno. Also I feel they are going to be harder to bend and made to look nice, but that's a skill issue. haha. Good on CM for trying something different, though. Maybe when they come out and some skilled builders do something with them, I'll change my mind.
The rads could be very interesting if they sell 20mm thick variants. If the price is right and the heat dissipation is actually notably improved either from the fin density or something else than it could kill XSPC rads for ITX builds.
Also small fans. It is often that GPU is most lound part of most builds, everything is already much more quiet due do using bigger fans (120, 140, sometimes even bigger).

I am "lucky" that running an ITX setup I can deshroud my GPU and use my bottom intake fans directly on the GPU so it'll run on 120mm fans and have fresh cool air directly from outside the case. I just need to stop being lazy and actually change the parts. Already 3D printed intakes for the fans for the best setup
Regarding the square fittings, That alignment issue is probably going to annoy a ton of people, I wonder why they didn't come up with either a 2 piece fitting where the inner ring rotates and the sqaure is more like a cosmetic covering, that or trying a different type of compression rather than a thread they could use something like a clamshell with the square and clamp down on the pipe/barb.
If the prices are lower and the performance is on par with ek then a say more power to them. I've always thought ek products where ridiculously overpriced for what they are.
yeah agreed.. it seems like custom water cooling is extremely expensive thing for the materials and R&D that's involved in it nowadays.. unless you go aliexpress special custom cooling you are really not going to have a watercooling parts for sub 600 bucks
I seen the Cooler Master items imitating EK and the first thing I thought was why is there EK stuff on the table until I seen the logo on the items. Aesthetics forms a part of a brand's image and identity. Personally I think Cooler Master is walking a fine line in terms of IP infringement.
This NewV8 is EXACTLY the type of cooler I've been hoping for since the Titan Venessa L-type. It's absolutely WILD to me that no such cooler has been made until now. It's like none of these cooler companies have any actual thermal engineers working for them. I hope this catches on, because the concept is very strong, and I'm sure very significant improvements can still be made on it compared to the CM implementation. Also I would never buy EK Waterscams, no matter who rebrands it or cheekily makes very-near-copies.
Pretty sure all of em are working on something like this, but it's expensive to do. Coolermaster being so big, and making coolers for alot of other brands, is just first. It's all depending on what the price is going to be.
To be fair, that cooler looks like it's going to be VERY expensive. I don't think they're the only ones betting on vapour chambers for CPU coolers, they may be simply the first to have a working demo.
"EKWB water scam" ah yes because watercooling is at all a scam. Dude, you might not be interested in the aesthetics or the maintenance, but FFS it's not a "scam" while air cooling is generally cheaper, it does have significant drawbacks with weight, leverage and other issues. Going from air to water can and does lower temps significantly, while also reducing the physical load on the cpu socket and other components. This means that shipping watercooled systems is less hazardous then a system with a tower. Just recently I saw a system with a tower cooler almost completely destroyed in shipping. The reality is that water is better in certain ways, it's certainly not cheaper or more reliable then air but it has its own special advantage over air.
The fins on radiators is great, the vapour chamber to heat-pipe thing was great, and overall I think trying to emulate EKs style was a good idea but they have gone about it the wrong way, I get making a plain acrylic square with black accents would be hard to not make it obvious where the inspiration is from but the straight up copying? don't like that feeling, and I'm sure EK doesn't either.
Yeeeesss!!!! Of the 4 people i've seen covering the CM stuff, you're the first person with the balls to call them out on the blatant copying of the blocks. I thought the rads were a copy too, but now i'm not so sure. They're similar, but maybe the design rotated. Almost like halfway between the ek rads and the watercool heatkiller rads. Still complete bs though.
The rads are a copy. CM just did a lazy swicharoo with EK's top and bottom, using them as sides, and using EK's sides as top and bottom. Look at the rad ports too, EK has very distinctive ports, they copied those too. Those CM rads basically look like a cheap knockoff of EK's, u can tell by the chipped paint on the ports.
I'm conflicted on that CPU block. I agree it's too similar and Coolermaster could've made a really good & unique design on their own. However it still looks really good, I love the mounting system, and EK could use some competition with their wacky pricing. Idk
Honestly I like how they bypassed the patent, in my opinion they improved on the patent cause those stand offs can get cross screwed so instead of your cpu block becoming useless after it’s been cross threaded , now you can just replace worn stand offs and give your water block new life. I may be switching to cooler master as ekwb has been getting cheaper and cheaper in their manufacturing it’s kinda sad really as I own hundreds of their products over many years and you can tell the quality is diminishing as time goes on, so good on you cooler master for thinking around the box
Well, I have EKWB loop in my PC and this really feels like a copy. It looks like they copied mostly the appearance though, as flow inside the CPU block seems quite different to EKWB Velocity². And I completely agree this is unnecessary, CM is no doubt capable of doing their own designs. Anyway, I'm glad for more competition in custom water cooling, it might drive prices bit lower, even for EKWB.

8:53 More commonly known as bar and plate design, like high power, high boost turbo intercoolers. The usual radiators are usually called tube and fin. Bar and plate would reduce effectiveness (depending how it is made, but that increased fin density might help) but makes it capable of supporting higher flow rates and pressures that a tube and fin design will crumple or bulge out. If someone only got a really high flow, possibly high pressure pump...
I would like to see a water block with a vapor chamber or heat pipes to spread heat over the whole surface of the block. The cross section of the AIO looks like a step in that direction - there are indentations in the plate that I assume are for heat pipes to spread heat to the fin stack on the pump.
The copper coolers with the internal passages you are wondering about construction methods, they are likely produced by 3D metal printing. Powder is layed down a few thousands thick and then a high power NdYAG laser scans the surface fusing the powdered metal together and to the layer below. The best machines are capable of printing structures near as thin as paper in stainless steel, titanium, and yes copper too.
Yes, I'm for square tubing. Fittings are iffy unless they are used with the square tubing. Also, that air cooler with the heatpipes dumping at the contact plate is insteresting/cool
Transparent CPU block makes sense but the only thing what is really matter to have visible fins. I don't think there is so many ways to design the thing. Maybe a diagonal alignment of the G1/4 holes would be an upgrade worth considering. If the water coming in at the center, then put the exit to the corner. If it does not affect the cooling performance then go with corner to corner.
All for more vendors going into the watercooling market. Bypassing patents is a way of life for companies and breeds innovation. The block didn't look like a copy either, just an acrylic block with a metal siding, iirc EK wasn't the first ones to do that back in the day. Those square fittings though.. not so sure about that as you pointed out, lining them up will be a pain.
It's funny that they call it G11, as it's also the name of radiator fluid for older Volkswagens. Which I've used to cool a PC while waiting for proper fluid to ship and had it make a lot of mess to clean up.
I think EK's mounting system patent is as stupid as asetek's AIO pump integration patent. So I have no issues with CM working around it. However copying the visual design of the velocity block is lame(partially because I think CM's version is uglier than EK's design).
Why should any normal consumer care if one company copies another? Knowing that EK makes some of the most expensive water cooling tech, I'd assume this part would be cheaper and therefore a win for consumers. You're right that should aspire to do somethings different which I would argue they did that across the other products they showcased, but I don't see anything wrong with trying to bring something one company copying another if it works well and can bring the cost down.
Why would brands do new things and spend money on R&D if another brand just copied it? Customers lose out in the end as the market would just get stale.
@@davido_labido Because it's in their interests to do so that's why. Because they should want to sell more than others and as such be driven to create something others can't. By the competition figures it out, that company should be on to something new. By that logic Intel shouldn't adopt chiplets, AMD shouldn't have created FSR and the DAN A4 should be the only sandwich style itx case. From where I'm sitting that CM NR200 is doing quite well has a decent cost AND reinvigorated itx cases.
I LOVE the displays that Cooler Master put up here. Showing a live physical cross-section of their new aio, advertising their air cooler by running a *live* stress test with the system on display (hoping that FurMark wasn't meant to be a CPU temperature test). There is no better way, in my opinion, to get enthusiasts excited about your product than to be as transparent and specific as possible. Assuming your products are actually good, of course 😄
The only thing that would save that cpu block is if they do indeed provide hike spacing and mounting hardware for multiple platforms. It would be necessary but sufficient to make me prefer it over handing EK another wad of cash at the next change, for a block that performs 2-6° less well than an HK4. Some prefer the look of the EK, I have built with it, and if I can have the same look but the versatility of buying just 1 for any of the current or recent platforms, and also only one HK4, I’m sold…. OTOH personally I won’t use either since mounting a block from the rear is a no-go on test benches….
I like the EK look. I'll be waiting for some actual performance numbers, to see if the old adage is true: it's not who did it first, it's who did it best.
700w air cooler is impressive and i dont care if they copy ekwb as long as the price is reduced im all for it. I feel if anyone can bypass a patient its good for the consumer!😊
The WB is different to me . The only similarities to eks waterblock is that they are acrylic and have metal on the right, inlet outlet on right. Your kinda limited on placement for a wb. The internal water path, amount and shape of holes, direction of holes are completely different. The metal is just a strip compared to eks whole right side being aluminum. I bet the fins are different inside too. It just resembles it and may be better. If its cheaper then eks $240 im in.

Looking at the chipped paint on the ports def looks like Barrow quality. I do use a few barrow things, I don't dislike them. Yes EK rads been out for almost 2 years, and CM just basically took the design from the top and bottom and put them on the sides and used the sides as top and bottom. Knocking off the entire EK series look. How pathetic.
back in computex 2019, the vapor-chamber coolers looked promising, especially the 'U' shaped chamber "MA 3DVVC", the other one with the tubes extending out of the base vapor chamber was also there in 2019. they looked promising for the multi-die AMD CPUs at the time, yet I haven't seen anything on them since till now.
For that M.2 heatsink, I'd be very, very curious to see how far SLS 3D printing would take this concept of a truly 3D vapor chamber. I would imagine the raw part finish could be fine yet gritty enough to be a wicking surface. I would also imagine that it could be made so that the top half could be soldered to a copper plate with the filling nipple being soldered into a hole; or, would this process even need the typical filling method, and instead just squirt the droplets into the upper portion before soldering on the plate. The part is complex enough for SLS to make sense to use, the only other real alternative would be a bunch of soldered parts, a very complex machined part, somehow stamping the external geometry then, or possibly casting the metal, then the internal standoffs, the wicking solution, then the bottom plate; stamping or a cast as an initial process is probably what they're using, those are the only semi-efficient method for a part like this, but I would think SLS would be vastly more efficient and probably cheaper to produce at the end of the day. Custom card coolers modernly are interesting idea. With the various atypical GPU mounts, I wonder if we'll see more custom solutions that break away from the down-draft axial setup. Imagine a GPU that's co-planar with the motherboard, yet has a CPU-style tower cooler on it. If we haven't already seen this, surely we will within a couple years, assuming that GPU mounting style does catch on with a wider audience. Typical vertical GPUs just don't have the breathing room in most cases, considering the cooler is pushed up against the side panel, and Cooler Master's solution seems to exacerbate this unless the compatible cases are extremely wide. I like CM's idea of square tubing. Though I'm surprised they didn't go with hexagonal tubing, maybe that'll be a next generation thing. I don't really understand the round tube compression fittings being square, that should've definitely had been a two piece solution where an outer sleeved piece is decorative and can fit any orientation; or just not use screw-down compression fittings, press-in compression fittings could work as well, it is all based on O-rings after all, or some kind of QDC-like click-together system. As for the 'copied' design, let's be honest and say it's a fairly simple design, EK's patent really doesn't have much footing other than being a combination of parts that otherwise does not make their product special. This is my biggest complain with the patent system, someone can recreate the wheel by changing one miniscule detail and have a patent, someone can piece together random shit and have a patent, it's all effectively worthless in practice anyways; EK's mounting system is just a combination of screws and a backplate, it's really not patent-worthy, and I can guarantee that the fastening system has existed elsewhere. As for _why_ CM did it, it was probably to cut R&D corners, not to mention that it's a fairly basic design, that'll probably end up as an entry-level part that's very price competitive with EK's version of the block. Nobody here is really doing anything novel, nobody here is really improving on design with such leaps and bounds that their idea could otherwise be considered novel, nothing here is so utterly proprietary that they need a patent to protect their product's proprietary nature, etc.; I mean, try patenting a cardboard box, even if you are granted a patent it'd have no standing ground and could be so easily challenged, which will likely happen if EK attempts to go after CM for this block, and I wouldn't be surprised if EK's patent is so effectively worthless that they end up losing that patent when challenged.
I was so confused by that drum kit, especially because it's the exact Roland V-Drums set that I have (albeit with a different kick). Have they made a cooled seat? Because that is a "shut up and take my money" product for me. Playing drums is sooooo sweaty.
There's a fine line between copying and just being similar. When you're trying to do the same thing, solutions tend to go the same direction. They do seem to be going for meaningful functional differences which to me are more important than any casual cosmetic similarity.
With that new open loop stuff I'd love to see what J2C will do with them. And really liking the look of the new 3dvc cooler, just looks like a solid unit of cooling
Sadly Jay seems to stay away from most Cooler Master stuff. I know he has done some things like Phils NR case, but in general he doesn't show many things from them. I'd be very surprised if he did anything with their new open loop products, mainly because he has a sponsorship with Corsair and I think EK as well. I'd love to see it though

I have been wondering why they have not just started to mount 120mm case fans on GPUs like we see with CPU coolers, since they started becomming gargantuan. It should be cheaper and better and no need to design a shroud, just put a 4 pin fan connector on the board
Asus actually did that with Noctua, it added some thickness to the card but not a whole lot, and the performance increase from the cooler was definitely a thing. That said, it wasn't worth the price increase at the time, maybe if every GPU was made that way it would drop the cost down though, I could see that being viable if someone takes one of the noctua clones that are more affordable and puts them on a GPU
that one still had a fancy shroud holding them I would like to see something like the backplate and a rail sticking out further with a line of holes in it for mounting or something simple like that so I could also do whatever fan I wanted. I would actually prefer green pcb, brown box, even unassembled to save money. Having the mounting holes around the chip match like AM5 for radeon cards would be cool too make some good standards across as many parts as possible @@TheOriginalFaxon

Sometimes ,even in technology, things are coming to a dead end, so it's impossible to improvise newer solution ways to the given problem.. Any problem it is.. I'm sure that there are new ways for the solution but at the moment they are unavailable or too expensive. In the past year and more, people faced many challenges ..The pc's thermal problem is the least one.. I think that people are generating the "problems" (look at the Nvidia's "thermal" problem for example) and later they "find" the solution to this, so to "pump" more money from our pockets for something that did NOT even existed some time before.. In my world, this was called "unethical".. Now... I don't know.. Anyway. Thank you for the very interesting video Roman.. It is VERY informative.. Let's hope the newer engineers' generation to find more "ethical" and peaceful solutions to the problems they'll face.. The ncore 100 max looks great, I have an NR200P max and it's been very good so far, only replaced the stock PSU with one that had 12vhpwr by standard (ROG Loki 1kW).
My initial thought on the CPU blocks would’ve been that maybe they get manufactured in the same overseas factories as EK’s and there was some licensing of certain ideas involved, but I guess not?
Any competition for EK sounds great to me. As long as Cooler Master knows that all they have to do is the same but be more accessible price-wise, then PC builders will flock to them from both experienced and inexperienced custom loop-building groups.
EK got too big for their boots, what started off as grass roots and supported the enthusiast water cooler Modders turned into a huge ruthless corporate expensive product line. Bring on the cooler master cpu water cooler, if that can be mounted on intel and amd and cheaper than EK, then ek may finally be forced to up their game Well done CM
The blocks are different enough @11:33. Just like the case you built with Lian Li, Roman; it's still a square box, like 99% of cases out there, just different enough... Btw, I bought one and it's great.
I really like their custom water cooling parts. Hopefully a second revision will address the square fitting issue. A way to unlock the rotation after tightening would be nice. And as long as the performance is on par and the prices are reasonable and not EKWB priced, then bring it. They're overpriced and need more competition.
To be honest there are only so many ways to make water blocks, and it's better for consumers if their mounting mechanisms are compatible with each other

I would rather get EK's CPU cooler even if they somehow make theirs cost less. The only problem I have with vertically mounted GPU’s is their close proximity to the glass. Especially when fan cooled. Won’t be long before all these graphics cards require liquid cooling…….and hence……..increased costs.
The square stuff is cool and all, but ehhhhhhh. It lacks that sleek look with more traditional fittings. I really like the look of that air cooler, can't wait to see it tested and see if it holds up too the claims.
Ok, hate that they look so much like EK products, right off the bat. I don't buy fittings from any of those "top brands" because Freezemod but how exactly do you bend those tube? All those tubes and fittings do is restrict how your can run them.
Regarding the EK block clone, I think they could have changed the design a little, but at the same time i lf they make a clone with similar quality that works just as well for a fraction of the cost, i dont see a problem. Happens in lots of industries all the time.
Cooler Master really bringing up massive nostalgia this year. The GPU shroud/ heatsink project really brings me back to the Prolimatech/ Rainjintek/ Arctic Accelero days. Now if you excuse me let me hop on the new V10 hopium also morbius fans (come on industry it's already dead, move on it's been 3 years, dear God)
Honestly I'm pretty happy with the design direction they're taking. The new AIO and GPU shrouds look high-tech and sleek, but not gamery. The text on the air cooler is meh, but would probably fit an automotive themed build.
I'm looking at the Cooler Master blocks as though they're taunting EKWB to say: "Go ahead, try and sue us. Our legal team is bigger than your whole company."
things I wouldn't do again....vrm+cpu megablocks...just annoying if you have to repaste, your cpu is defective etc...and those rear-mounted ekwb blocks currently have one ony my 13900k it's just easier if you need to repaste or want to upgrade your cpu to have a regular manually screwed block, derbauer also proved in his tests that most mid-high ranged motherboards have good enough vrm coolers
Doesn't every manyfacturer copy something from another manufacturer at one time? If it performs good and the acrylic doesn't crack quickly (EK's cracks quite easy from what I've seen) then I'm all for it... at some point blocks are going to look alike more or less I think.
The CPU vertical bracket V3 is universal. right now i have one installed in my Lian Li O11 DXL and is actual better build and more stable that Lian li's own GPU vertical mount :)
I'm all for every alternative to EK. Their products have gotten so expensive and their quality on waterblocks has fallen off of a cliff

There's at least 10 manufacturer's of liquid cooling parts, if that were true all of them would be called out for stealing each other's design, and yet they don't. Most actually implement distinctive elements in their designs that you can tell just by looking at it what brand it is, except Cooler Master in this case. Why is cooler master now being blatantly called out for stealing EK's design, whereas other manufacturer's have not? Well maybe because it's true. My guess as to why they blatantly stole EK's look would be, so they would save money on designing and so they could also charge a similar but slightly discounted EK price. Steal someone else's design as well as coat tail ride off their premium prices but slightly discounted. I'm pretty certain they will be making more per unit than EK even at lower prices looking at the rough finish of those blocks and rads. It's also an incredibly stupid idea to copy EK's design because it doesn't look like the rest of their products. Look at the design of the AIO, that looks like CM, and then u look at their custom copied EK products, and that looks different because it's an EK copy. Lack of integrity with their core design.
If cooler master integrates a way to swap the standoffs to match the platform so you don't have to buy a new block switching between AMD and Intel, then the design is genuinely good, regardless of similarity to EKWB. The fact that EK hasn't done this is what makes their current blocks an insulting cash grab considering they don't even perform as well as many other universal designs. There are only so many ways to design a block and to me, the design language is enough different not to immediately hate it as a carbon copy. The design of the square tube fittings is super ugly but the idea is good. I love the look of the square tube itself. If they design a more simple straight knurled finish with the same sharkbite style fitting for the square tube, I will absolutely buy them.
I like the design of the square fittings, but then I am weird is some ways. Lol. But yeah cm's design for the cpu block isn't bad has potential and is different enough to not look like a streight copy. It's clear they copied ek's homework but made it their own in the process, in a way you can't hate.

Busy fitting designs are difficult to integrate into a custom loop with other manufacturer's products. Ironically, the square fittings for the round tube are way more aesthetically pleasing even with the challenges they present due to their simpler design language. If they use a sharkbite fitting instead of one with the external clasps, the square tube fittings will look awesome.
Do you really switch between Intel and AMD CPUs that often? I can only see this being a use case for a test bench. I don't switch CPUs more than once every few years.
@extracurricularkitty3605 I build between 25-35 watercooling build a year for customers currently plus the occasional marketing build. It's incredibly useful to me to be able to buy blocks ahead of time without necessarily knowing the components used for the specific build. Even if that weren't the case, are you really not getting that being forced to buy a new block if you switch platforms is an unnecessary and, frankly, incredibly stupid overcomplication and additional expense that only exists in custom loop space?
For me the design on the EK copy isn't the problem. It's the fact they just outright went, that's a cool looking popular brand! Then just straight up copied it and made some slight changes after... They could of at least made the detachable piece look different. It is not an inspired design, it is a copied design, with slight alteration.

On one hand, CM copying EK means they can offer similar products at a different price range. On the other hand though, I would have liked to see something a lot more different. Credit where it’s deserved, their fittings and reservoirs didn’t look like direct copies, and while I’m personally more of a fan of round piping, I appreciate the option to go square. The radiators might be copied in looks, but that fin design was certainly different. To me, it looked amazing. Looked really clean and as they claim, likely more efficient. Would love to see some tests done on them.
The square tubing is an interesting idea, but one which I expect will bite them in the ass. There is a reason squaring tubing just isn't "a thing" anywhere (I don't mean just with PCs, I mean literally anywhere), and it's because sealing a round tube in a round hole is easy, and sealing something with corners is difficult. It'll be interesting to see how reliable they are, and if they suffer issues with leaking.
You know that Coolermaster has some of the most expensive cases on the market right? The only cheap cases they have are generic "made in China" looking ones, the rest are like $400-$1000. Theyr'e just gonna slap a similar price tag on it after saving money on designing it cuz they straight up stole EK's design.

I love the squared off fitting, aesthetically. Would be perfect look for what I want. I also wondered about if they would catch on things and wouldn't tighten enough. Didn't think about over tightening to line up, but I guess that is a concern too. Since I heard elsewhere they wouldn't be out till June or so, it's probably too late for my next build, so I don't have to worry about it

I don't really like the look of the actual square tubes. They also look thin? I dunno. Also I feel they are going to be harder to bend and made to look nice, but that's a skill issue. haha. Good on CM for trying something different, though. Maybe when they come out and some skilled builders do something with them, I'll change my mind.
The rads could be very interesting if they sell 20mm thick variants. If the price is right and the heat dissipation is actually notably improved either from the fin density or something else than it could kill XSPC rads for ITX builds.
That GPU-shroud is DOPE! I really dislike the look of most graphics cards so this clean minimal look is straight up my alley
Also small fans. It is often that GPU is most lound part of most builds, everything is already much more quiet due do using bigger fans (120, 140, sometimes even bigger).

I am "lucky" that running an ITX setup I can deshroud my GPU and use my bottom intake fans directly on the GPU so it'll run on 120mm fans and have fresh cool air directly from outside the case. I just need to stop being lazy and actually change the parts. Already 3D printed intakes for the fans for the best setup
Regarding the square fittings, That alignment issue is probably going to annoy a ton of people, I wonder why they didn't come up with either a 2 piece fitting where the inner ring rotates and the sqaure is more like a cosmetic covering, that or trying a different type of compression rather than a thread they could use something like a clamshell with the square and clamp down on the pipe/barb.

I seen the Cooler Master items imitating EK and the first thing I thought was why is there EK stuff on the table until I seen the logo on the items. Aesthetics forms a part of a brand's image and identity. Personally I think Cooler Master is walking a fine line in terms of IP infringement.

It's absolutely WILD to me that no such cooler has been made until now.

Pretty sure all of em are working on something like this, but it's expensive to do. Coolermaster being so big, and making coolers for alot of other brands, is just first. It's all depending on what the price is going to be.

To be fair, that cooler looks like it's going to be VERY expensive. I don't think they're the only ones betting on vapour chambers for CPU coolers, they may be simply the first to have a working demo.
"EKWB water scam" ah yes because watercooling is at all a scam. Dude, you might not be interested in the aesthetics or the maintenance, but FFS it's not a "scam" while air cooling is generally cheaper, it does have significant drawbacks with weight, leverage and other issues. Going from air to water can and does lower temps significantly, while also reducing the physical load on the cpu socket and other components. This means that shipping watercooled systems is less hazardous then a system with a tower. Just recently I saw a system with a tower cooler almost completely destroyed in shipping. The reality is that water is better in certain ways, it's certainly not cheaper or more reliable then air but it has its own special advantage over air.
The fins on radiators is great, the vapour chamber to heat-pipe thing was great, and overall I think trying to emulate EKs style was a good idea but they have gone about it the wrong way, I get making a plain acrylic square with black accents would be hard to not make it obvious where the inspiration is from but the straight up copying? don't like that feeling, and I'm sure EK doesn't either.
Yeeeesss!!!! Of the 4 people i've seen covering the CM stuff, you're the first person with the balls to call them out on the blatant copying of the blocks. I thought the rads were a copy too, but now i'm not so sure. They're similar, but maybe the design rotated. Almost like halfway between the ek rads and the watercool heatkiller rads.

The rads are a copy. CM just did a lazy swicharoo with EK's top and bottom, using them as sides, and using EK's sides as top and bottom. Look at the rad ports too, EK has very distinctive ports, they copied those too. Those CM rads basically look like a cheap knockoff of EK's, u can tell by the chipped paint on the ports.

I'm conflicted on that CPU block. I agree it's too similar and Coolermaster could've made a really good & unique design on their own. However it still looks really good, I love the mounting system, and EK could use some competition with their wacky pricing. Idk
Honestly I like how they bypassed the patent, in my opinion they improved on the patent cause those stand offs can get cross screwed so instead of your cpu block becoming useless after it’s been cross threaded , now you can just replace worn stand offs and give your water block new life. I may be switching to cooler master as ekwb has been getting cheaper and cheaper in their manufacturing it’s kinda sad really as I own hundreds of their products over many years and you can tell the quality is diminishing as time goes on, so good on you cooler master for thinking around the box
Well, I have EKWB loop in my PC and this really feels like a copy. It looks like they copied mostly the appearance though, as flow inside the CPU block seems quite different to EKWB Velocity². And I completely agree this is unnecessary, CM is no doubt capable of doing their own designs. Anyway, I'm glad for more competition in custom water cooling, it might drive prices bit lower, even for EKWB.
The fact that they had use round pipes in their square pipe showcase case tells you all you need to know about how useful it is.

Bar and plate would reduce effectiveness (depending how it is made, but that increased fin density might help) but makes it capable of supporting higher flow rates and pressures that a tube and fin design will crumple or bulge out. If someone only got a really high flow, possibly high pressure pump...

The cross section of the AIO looks like a step in that direction - there are indentations in the plate that I assume are for heat pipes to spread heat to the fin stack on the pump.
The copper coolers with the internal passages you are wondering about construction methods, they are likely produced by 3D metal printing. Powder is layed down a few thousands thick and then a high power NdYAG laser scans the surface fusing the powdered metal together and to the layer below. The best machines are capable of printing structures near as thin as paper in stainless steel, titanium, and yes copper too.

Transparent CPU block makes sense but the only thing what is really matter to have visible fins. I don't think there is so many ways to design the thing. Maybe a diagonal alignment of the G1/4 holes would be an upgrade worth considering. If the water coming in at the center, then put the exit to the corner. If it does not affect the cooling performance then go with corner to corner.
It will be interesting to see how bending a square tube goes XD Jay is going to have a field day (or not) experimenting with that.
All for more vendors going into the watercooling market. Bypassing patents is a way of life for companies and breeds innovation. The block didn't look like a copy either, just an acrylic block with a metal siding, iirc EK wasn't the first ones to do that back in the day.

It's funny that they call it G11, as it's also the name of radiator fluid for older Volkswagens. Which I've used to cool a PC while waiting for proper fluid to ship and had it make a lot of mess to clean up.

I think EK's mounting system patent is as stupid as asetek's AIO pump integration patent. So I have no issues with CM working around it. However copying the visual design of the velocity block is lame(partially because I think CM's version is uglier than EK's design).
Why should any normal consumer care if one company copies another? Knowing that EK makes some of the most expensive water cooling tech, I'd assume this part would be cheaper and therefore a win for consumers. You're right that should aspire to do somethings different which I would argue they did that across the other products they showcased, but I don't see anything wrong with trying to bring something one company copying another if it works well and can bring the cost down.
Why would brands do new things and spend money on R&D if another brand just copied it? Customers lose out in the end as the market would just get stale.

By the competition figures it out, that company should be on to something new. By that logic Intel shouldn't adopt chiplets, AMD shouldn't have created FSR and the DAN A4 should be the only sandwich style itx case. From where I'm sitting that CM NR200 is doing quite well has a decent cost AND reinvigorated itx cases.

I LOVE the displays that Cooler Master put up here. Showing a live physical cross-section of their new aio, advertising their air cooler by running a *live* stress test with the system on display (hoping that FurMark wasn't meant to be a CPU temperature test). There is no better way, in my opinion, to get enthusiasts excited about your product than to be as transparent and specific as possible. Assuming your products are actually good, of course 😄

The only thing that would save that cpu block is if they do indeed provide hike spacing and mounting hardware for multiple platforms. It would be necessary but sufficient to make me prefer it over handing EK another wad of cash at the next change, for a block that performs 2-6° less well than an HK4.
Some prefer the look of the EK, I have built with it, and if I can have the same look but the versatility of buying just 1 for any of the current or recent platforms, and also only one HK4, I’m sold…. OTOH personally I won’t use either since mounting a block from the rear is a no-go on test benches….
I like the EK look. I'll be waiting for some actual performance numbers, to see if the old adage is true: it's not who did it first, it's who did it best.

The WB is different to me . The only similarities to eks waterblock is that they are acrylic and have metal on the right, inlet outlet on right. Your kinda limited on placement for a wb. The internal water path, amount and shape of holes, direction of holes are completely different. The metal is just a strip compared to eks whole right side being aluminum. I bet the fins are different inside too. It just resembles it and may be better. If its cheaper then eks $240 im in.

Yes EK rads been out for almost 2 years, and CM just basically took the design from the top and bottom and put them on the sides and used the sides as top and bottom. back in computex 2019, the vapor-chamber coolers looked promising, especially the 'U' shaped chamber "MA 3DVVC", the other one with the tubes extending out of the base vapor chamber was also there in 2019. they looked promising for the multi-die AMD CPUs at the time, yet I haven't seen anything on them since till now.
For that M.2 heatsink, I'd be very, very curious to see how far SLS 3D printing would take this concept of a truly 3D vapor chamber. I would imagine the raw part finish could be fine yet gritty enough to be a wicking surface. I would also imagine that it could be made so that the top half could be soldered to a copper plate with the filling nipple being soldered into a hole; or, would this process even need the typical filling method, and instead just squirt the droplets into the upper portion before soldering on the plate. The part is complex enough for SLS to make sense to use, the only other real alternative would be a bunch of soldered parts, a very complex machined part, somehow stamping the external geometry then, or possibly casting the metal, then the internal standoffs, the wicking solution, then the bottom plate; stamping or a cast as an initial process is probably what they're using, those are the only semi-efficient method for a part like this, but I would think SLS would be vastly more efficient and probably cheaper to produce at the end of the day.
Custom card coolers modernly are interesting idea. With the various atypical GPU mounts, I wonder if we'll see more custom solutions that break away from the down-draft axial setup. Imagine a GPU that's co-planar with the motherboard, yet has a CPU-style tower cooler on it. If we haven't already seen this, surely we will within a couple years, assuming that GPU mounting style does catch on with a wider audience. Typical vertical GPUs just don't have the breathing room in most cases, considering the cooler is pushed up against the side panel, and Cooler Master's solution seems to exacerbate this unless the compatible cases are extremely wide.
I like CM's idea of square tubing. Though I'm surprised they didn't go with hexagonal tubing, maybe that'll be a next generation thing. I don't really understand the round tube compression fittings being square, that should've definitely had been a two piece solution where an outer sleeved piece is decorative and can fit any orientation; or just not use screw-down compression fittings, press-in compression fittings could work as well, it is all based on O-rings after all, or some kind of QDC-like click-together system.
As for the 'copied' design, let's be honest and say it's a fairly simple design, EK's patent really doesn't have much footing other than being a combination of parts that otherwise does not make their product special. This is my biggest complain with the patent system, someone can recreate the wheel by changing one miniscule detail and have a patent, someone can piece together random shit and have a patent, it's all effectively worthless in practice anyways; EK's mounting system is just a combination of screws and a backplate, it's really not patent-worthy, and I can guarantee that the fastening system has existed elsewhere. As for _why_ CM did it, it was probably to cut R&D corners, not to mention that it's a fairly basic design, that'll probably end up as an entry-level part that's very price competitive with EK's version of the block. Nobody here is really doing anything novel, nobody here is really improving on design with such leaps and bounds that their idea could otherwise be considered novel, nothing here is so utterly proprietary that they need a patent to protect their product's proprietary nature, etc.; I mean, try patenting a cardboard box, even if you are granted a patent it'd have no standing ground and could be so easily challenged, which will likely happen if EK attempts to go after CM for this block, and I wouldn't be surprised if EK's patent is so effectively worthless that they end up losing that patent when challenged.

I was so confused by that drum kit, especially because it's the exact Roland V-Drums set that I have (albeit with a different kick). Have they made a cooled seat? Because that is a "shut up and take my money" product for me. Playing drums is sooooo sweaty.
There's a fine line between copying and just being similar. When you're trying to do the same thing, solutions tend to go the same direction. They do seem to be going for meaningful functional differences which to me are more important than any casual cosmetic similarity.
With that new open loop stuff I'd love to see what J2C will do with them. And really liking the look of the new 3dvc cooler, just looks like a solid unit of cooling
Sadly Jay seems to stay away from most Cooler Master stuff. I know he has done some things like Phils NR case, but in general he doesn't show many things from them. I'd be very surprised if he did anything with their new open loop products, mainly because he has a sponsorship with Corsair and I think EK as well. I'd love to see it though

I have been wondering why they have not just started to mount 120mm case fans on GPUs like we see with CPU coolers, since they started becomming gargantuan. It should be cheaper and better and no need to design a shroud, just put a 4 pin fan connector on the board
Asus actually did that with Noctua, it added some thickness to the card but not a whole lot, and the performance increase from the cooler was definitely a thing. That said, it wasn't worth the price increase at the time, maybe if every GPU was made that way it would drop the cost down though, I could see that being viable if someone takes one of the noctua clones that are more affordable and puts them on a GPU
that one still had a fancy shroud holding them I would like to see something like the backplate and a rail sticking out further with a line of holes in it for mounting or something simple like that so I could also do whatever fan I wanted. I would actually prefer green pcb, brown box, even unassembled to save money. Having the mounting holes around the chip match like AM5 for radeon cards would be cool too make some good standards across as many parts as possible @@TheOriginalFaxon

Sometimes ,even in technology, things are coming to a dead end, so it's impossible to improvise newer solution ways to the given problem.. Any problem it is.. I'm sure that there are new ways for the solution but at the moment they are unavailable or too expensive. In the past year and more, people faced many challenges ..The pc's thermal problem is the least one.. I think that people are generating the "problems" (look at the Nvidia's "thermal" problem for example) and later they "find" the solution to this, so to "pump" more money from our pockets for something that did NOT even existed some time before.. In my world, this was called "unethical".. Now... I don't know.. Anyway. Thank you for the very interesting video Roman.. It is VERY informative.. Let's hope the newer engineers' generation to find more "ethical" and peaceful solutions to the problems they'll face.. Mounting style is good and I get a patent to protect it is needed but I see no issue in *copying* it but it does look quite the same.

The new velocity blocks are such a slap in the face to the customer that I think I'm ok with it as long as they perform better.
The ncore 100 max looks great, I have an NR200P max and it's been very good so far, only replaced the stock PSU with one that had 12vhpwr by standard (ROG Loki 1kW).
My initial thought on the CPU blocks would’ve been that maybe they get manufactured in the same overseas factories as EK’s and there was some licensing of certain ideas involved, but I guess not?
Regarding radiators , I thought all the vendor's product are the same, what high tech make them different?
Any competition for EK sounds great to me. As long as Cooler Master knows that all they have to do is the same but be more accessible price-wise, then PC builders will flock to them from both experienced and inexperienced custom loop-building groups.
EK got too big for their boots, what started off as grass roots and supported the enthusiast water cooler Modders turned into a huge ruthless corporate expensive product line.
Bring on the cooler master cpu water cooler, if that can be mounted on intel and amd and cheaper than EK, then ek may finally be forced to up their game

The blocks are different enough @11:33. Just like the case you built with Lian Li, Roman; it's still a square box, like 99% of cases out there, just different enough... Btw, I bought one and it's great.
I really like their custom water cooling parts.
Hopefully a second revision will address the square fitting issue. A way to unlock the rotation after tightening would be nice.
And as long as the performance is on par and the prices are reasonable and not EKWB priced, then bring it.
They're overpriced and need more competition.
To be honest there are only so many ways to make water blocks, and it's better for consumers if their mounting mechanisms are compatible with each other
There are only so many ways you can design a cooling block... it looks like every other one out there. The mounting brackets are kinda standard at this point too.
not going to lie. I like the square pipes. I do find the water blocks to be like an exact EK copy..... which is weird, even the design with the black on the side just reminds you of EK. Wonder if they are aware, if there is any design restrictions on that :)

I would rather get EK's CPU cooler even if they somehow make theirs cost less. They've literally copied a patented design with the smallest alterations possible to get around it, the logo is even in the same place for crying out loud. Honestly it's put me off the company in general now...
For the m.2 heatsink, they probably mill it, flip it, hollow it, then lay the vapour chamber in flush with the bottom and seal it. Just a guess, but it's the only way I could make sense of it.
The only problem I have with vertically mounted GPU’s is their close proximity to the glass. Especially when fan cooled. Won’t be long before all these graphics cards require liquid cooling…….and hence……..increased costs.
The square stuff is cool and all, but ehhhhhhh. It lacks that sleek look with more traditional fittings. I really like the look of that air cooler, can't wait to see it tested and see if it holds up too the claims.
Why dont more watercooling companies make Waterblocks for MSI gpus? I like my Byski block but I sure would love to have a Heatkiller block instead.

Ok, hate that they look so much like EK products, right off the bat. I don't buy fittings from any of those "top brands" because Freezemod but how exactly do you bend those tube? All those tubes and fittings do is restrict how your can run them.

Regarding the EK block clone, I think they could have changed the design a little, but at the same time i lf they make a clone with similar quality that works just as well for a fraction of the cost, i dont see a problem. Happens in lots of industries all the time.

Honestly I'm pretty happy with the design direction they're taking. The new AIO and GPU shrouds look high-tech and sleek, but not gamery. The text on the air cooler is meh, but would probably fit an automotive themed build.
I'm looking at the Cooler Master blocks as though they're taunting EKWB to say: "Go ahead, try and sue us. Our legal team is bigger than your whole company."

things I wouldn't do again....vrm+cpu megablocks...just annoying if you have to repaste, your cpu is defective etc...and those rear-mounted ekwb blocks currently have one ony my 13900k it's just easier if you need to repaste or want to upgrade your cpu to have a regular manually screwed block, derbauer also proved in his tests that most mid-high ranged motherboards have good enough vrm coolers

If it performs good and the acrylic doesn't crack quickly (EK's cracks quite easy from what I've seen) then I'm all for it... at some point blocks are going to look alike more or less I think.
Water cooling is all a bit crazy for a casual gamer like me. But it is worth keeping up with in case somebody wants help with a big rig.

The CPU vertical bracket V3 is universal. right now i have one installed in my Lian Li O11 DXL and is actual better build and more stable that Lian li's own GPU vertical mount :)
I think there's a ton of sometimes interesting, other times just silly products at CES and many of them never make it into production tbh...
The G11 would be great for a Starfield themed build.
