Hue and SmartThings (Here's How It Gets Better)

  • Philips Hue and SmartThings have worked together for a long time! They're (mostly) great together, but there are some seriously lacking features. For example, you can't use Philips Hue Scenes in SmartThings. You also can't get products like the Philips Hue Tap Dial Switch in SmartThings, or smart home devices like the Lutron Aurora.
Your motion sensors work too, but this new integration that brings Philips Hue and SmartThings together works 1000% better!
Not only will you get every Hue device into SmartThings, but you'll also get all of the Hue Scenes. You can control by rooms, by zones, or by individual light, and it'll eliminate any popcorn lighting effect.
It's simple to use, and it'll take you minutes. It's mind-blowing good and we should all thank the Blue Yeti Software team!
Here's where you go for the new SmartThings Edge Driver for the Philips Hue LAN control: community.smartthings.com/t/s...

In light of Hue not allowing android notifications, I have been using an Aeotec V3 hub (a rebranded Samsung hub, effectively) instead of the Hue bridges I own. My case use is to allow Hue outdoor motion sensors to send notifications to my phone, thereafter an android app (Alertify) reacts to a keyword (kitchen, decking, hall, etc) notification from a particular sensor to allow specific ringtones (even self-recorded voice ringtones) to override my alarm and provide my now-awoken mind to comprehend which area has been triggered. The alertify app also allows you to set notifications normally, so that your phone doesn't go off in the cinema.
Anyway, I've experienced a few drop-offs on these motion sensors from time-to-time, which I think have happened before and after the turning off of Groovy for the Edge set up.
I've now bought an IKEA Tradfri plug extender to rule out distance related issues, but would this driver assist in securing communication between the Aeotec Hub and the Hue outdoor motion sensors, or is this driver only applicable if I use the Hue Bridge, which wouldn't help me with getting motion sensor notifications to my phone?
I know I could use this driver to activate lights in my house whenever motion sensors are triggered but that won't help me react if I'm asleep.
How do you folk receive alarm notifications to a silenced phone from Hue outdoor motion sensors?
    Thank you.

Is there an edge driver for the old rotary style Tradfri dimmers?
I have a few of them paired to HUE and to some bulbs and it was a huge PITA to get them paired to both the hub and the bulbs.
I would like to be able to just add new Tradfri dimmers ( I have bunch of unused ones)
and pair them to HUE or ST directly and use the ST app to select which bulb/s I want them to control instead of having to pair them to the bulbs and hub.
These used to be a custom DTH for those dimmers on the old groovy platform I think that let you use the dimming function,
I think there was an official ST driver but it just let them turn the lights on or off and the rotary dimming was not enabled.
Ideally I would like to just pair them directly to the Aotec hub directly if there is a an edge driver that fully supports the, (Ie, the dimming function not just on/off) but if that is not possible the I would pair them to the HUE hub and use this new edge driver to import them.
These are great dimmers and they sued to be only $10, I bought like 5 at that price then about 20 more when Ikea put them on clearance for $1!
The CR 2032 batteries need to be changed a lot but I just bought some rechargables, it is a bit of a pain to use them though because if you over charge or under charge the batteries they won't work, CR2032 can be charged to so they give a higher voltage and the dimmers don't like that, but they are still the coolest Tradfri product Ikea ever made, I wish they would bring them back.

No more popcorn effect! Hallelujah, praise Jesus. I have 75+ Hue Bulbs and the staggered, popcorn effect is SOOOO annoying in rooms like the kitchen, bathrooms and dining room etc. that have 6 or more bulbs. Now I get to go redo a shit ton of automations that have individual bulbs listed. Thanks for giving me something to do this weekend, lol.
It's also worth noting that I have two Hue Bridges and both imported. I did, like another commenter, have them show up as offline with the "This device has not updated all of it status information. Please check back later" message. Rebooting the hub fixed this.

Thanks so much as always for the comprehensive video @Bryan 😃 I've installed the Edge drive (lots more confidence thanks to Bud's Smart home channel - highly recommended for all things Smartthings) and have added a few rooms/lights now set up. Works really well. Only exception is the 'Alert' function which is greyed out for me on all lights 🤔 I wonder if this just me or maybe an Android phone issue? Favourites have ported across after a bit of a slim down in the hhurgh......hurghhhhhh 🤮...It's so hard to say. 'Hue app' there I said it 😁 (joke stolen from a shaven haired man in the East Midlands) but sadly the option still greyed out for 'Alerts'. I wonder what's up with the Alerts. Don't know there, but maybe you have a lot of scenes in the app and this isn't working because of that? That's my only understanding of a bug with this. I went back and watched again, and I am experiencing several differences from the video:
First Difference: When I search for devices, and it finds the only the “old” set of hue hubs. In order to get the "second" set of hubs to install , I have to press the hue hub button before I search. When I do this, ST finds the additional hubs and immediately starts importing devices. So, there is no command on the hub (time 4:07) to "start linking”.
ST does load all of the devices, and all the devices work. There are however no scenes.
Second difference: The video says that difference between the “old” hub and the “new” hub loaded with the new driver is that the hamburger menu is different. The video (3:25) says that the old hub should just have Edit/Info. On mine, I get Edit/Remove Device/Information on both the old and the new. There is no “settings” option.
Third difference: Opening the new hub (4:25), my screen does not resemble yours. I get a status: “Connected” and a list of all the connected devices, again, no scenes, only devices. There is no “Add Devices” button at the bottom” (4:48), so no ability to select room or anything else.
Android App Version 1.8.12.21; uninstalled and re-installed
Driver: Philips Hue Beta 7616e454-5cd2-d07e -53c0-443374c30a80, I’ve removed and added the Philips Hue Beta back
Other interesting things of note: When I first search for devices, the “old” hubs are installed with the Philips Hue Beta driver, and the new one has Philips Hue as the driver. This seems backwards.

It worked fine for a coulple of weeks, then stopped. I tried removing it, and then it is not found when trying to re-add. If you hit the pairing button on the hue hub it is found and added -- along with every light in no room assigned. And the Hue hub does not have the options to add rooms or buttons etc. I tried removing the driver and re-adding it, but still no joy. Any ideas how to resurrect it? Maybe I should go back to the old integration?

I have gone back to the old integration, and it looks like I was getting the old integration by pressing the pairing button. I installed the driver and scan to add another device, however, unlike a few weeks ago, the new method does not bring up the hub.

Nope - Hue and TV directly connected to the router. Turn off everything. Turn on the Router, Tv, and hue. Get to enroll and install Philips Hue Beta. Able to check the driver in hub. @Aaron Ruff that's a great idea! I was just adding ST at the end and still deactivating them but your idea seems better especially when device has a longer name, my ST thing is hidden sometimes all the way at the end. ST from Smartthings obviously, but these are the only duplicates that I have. I only use my Hue with TV setup and sync box, my 50+ duplicates are mainly Lutron Caseta and few Nanoleafs.
