      All they have to do is pay the drivers 65% of whatever they charge the passengers. Then they would know how much they are getting for each ride and can charge and budget accordingly. It would also impose some fiscal discipline on the corporate side. Do we really need all of those programmers writing code to screw over the drivers, I mean tweak the algorythms?

      Yeap I thought it would be a great amenities to provide drinks, snacks and even a universal charger for them in the back. The people take them without even saying thanks. It is not fair that the other person's disability trumps yours but this is how the law reads. In my area they are much better now than they were back in 2016, when I previously drove for Lyft. Trash was frequent and the one I turned in left a drink, bright red, which spilled and stained the carpet and floor mat. This lead to me spending $200 for rubber floor pans, which I can take out and clean off. Then I see the stain and am aggravated all over again. They are pans because they can hold a lot of liquid.

      Service dogs are extremely very rare... I done over 7000 rides with uber and lyft combined and as far as I can remember, only maybe 5 or 6 had dogs and only one or two of them was certified service dogs....
      But these dogs can be trouble if they shed a lot especially if they are wet.... I do get concerned for future passengers because they are the ones who we should be concerned about... I believe dog owners need to bring a blanket for their dogs to sit or lay on.... Even apartments has pet fees and most don't even allow pets for a reason...

  • @VidMashUp
    @VidMashUp Рік тому +6

    While I understand the policy, I think pushing the issue with saying that it's required regardless of "fear, allergies, etc" and threatening instant deactivation because if it is overcompensating a little.
    First of all, I love animals and would never turn one away. I've had customers with 120 lb+ dogs in my car and I welcome them.
    However, I was mailed by a dog when I was 12 years old - bitten down to the bone. I've been diagnosed with PTSD from that event, and if my coping mechanisms don't work (they consistently do now), I can work myself up into a panic that would leave me running from my own car. Why does the passenger's disability trump my own? I don't have allergies, but I would ask the same question about that. Yes, UNLESS there is a significant reason to refuse the ride - like your own health or safety - you should be required to take it. Much like the idea that a handicapped person is a "VIP" in Lyft language, Lyft needs to take it down a notch. "Driver's lives matter". Unless you're going by the letter of the law, then you need to relax this policy a little. If you find someone refused a service animal for NO REASON other than they wanted to, then you have discrimination. If you find someone refused a service animal because allergies prevent them from seeing when driving, that's a different story. Disabled people are NOT more important than people without disabilities. This may be an unpopular statement, but it's true. What about the guy that says he has a medical condition and therefore cannot control his putrid body odor. Or a person who tells you he or she has a C-Diff infection and very likely will have diarrhea in your car? Are those rides you must take? What about impaired people who will probably vomit?
    And no, they should not be exempt from cleaning fees. If I had a service animal, I'd have my own lint brush and be as clean as I could. Again, these are not some people entitled to a suoer- privilege that trump's my medical needs. Having a service animal doesn't give them the right to make me sick, physically or mentally. We're not talking about an open space like a store. We're talking about a tiny confined space.
    Like I said, I love dogs and never refuse them. Uber has an Uber pet option to match people with pets to cars with pet friendly drivers. Easy peasy. No need to threaten people. I've had times when bug dogs in my car have given me flashbacks. Whomever made this policy has not suffered from PTSD. This is a misguided policy that outright threatens drivers and takes away their rights to live their life unimpeded. It's not necessary. There are better ways to do this. And giving the appearance that you give handicapped people carte blanche to ignore any and all rules even if it tramples on the disabilities of a driver is NOT the right way to do it.
    And not even providing a tool to verify that it's a service animal is even worse. If it's a service animal, they do/will/should have paperwork. That's their responsibility.
    What if the service animal is a chimp who could, on a whim, rip off your lips and your genitalia (this is a legit non-human primate behavior). Do I have to let that chimp in my car as long as the passenger SAYS it's a service animal? No way! Smarten up Lyft. Have some respect for the passenger AND the driver!

    Two things here:
    1: I don’t know how it’s possible for Lyft to force (since we are “our own boss,” which has been one of the main statements from Uber and Lyft on why they are not responsible to compensate drivers properly) a driver to pick up an an animal especially if the driver is allergic or severely allergic and can provide a doctor’s note. I’ve even encountered a couple situations where an allergic passenger got in my car after a dog had been in and had to get out because it was bothering them so much. If you ask me, Lyft and Uber should have drivers certify that they are or aren’t willing and able to pick up passengers with an animals so that riders can be paired accordingly. As well as require a rider to say yes or no that they have an animal when they order a ride.
    2: In most states it’s legal to ask a person to show proof that their animal is a service animal and refuse an animal that isn’t. But for whatever crazy reason, it isn’t in California. This means that people are very often bringing an animal with them because they know they can’t be told no because they can’t be asked despite it being the law that it’s supposed to be service animals only. It’s one of the stupidest laws I’ve ever heard. So, in CA, you actually are much more likely to pick up someone with an animal than you are on opera singer.

I already have all the qualified supplies for dogs And to make sure my car is clean already For the next rider. I also let people know that if it’s available and they can, if you wash the dog before bringing it in the car, Within two days, there are no allergies associated for other riders. Of course, that might be difficult. If you ride with a service dog or a dog any day. Dogs are always welcome. The Lyft Policy of suspending a Lyft account for refusing to accept a service animal should apply to both sides. People with service animals should have an account identified as a service animal account. This account should be verified by Lyft with required documents uploaded by Lyft riders to prove the animal is officially a service animal. If somebody tries to get a Lyft ride with an account not identified as a service animal account then the Lyft rider account should be suspended the same way are accounts are suspended when refusing to accept an official service animal. And finally we drivers should have an option to refuse or accept animals that are not service animals.

    The ADA has exemptions for businesses with less than 15 people. Drivers are INDEPENDENT contractors; essentially businesses of one. Lyft has an obligation to provide this service, not to force each small business owner (driver) to violate their religious beliefs or put their health at risk. Businesses who try to treat contractors like employees usually end up in hot water. Lyft is misapplying the ADA at the expense of driver health, safety, and religious freedom because they have neglected (are too lazy) to design an app experience where drivers with allergies and religious objections can preemptively opt out of requests involving service animals. The passenger app should include a question as to whether they have a service animal so proper arrangements can be made to dispatch a driver with no allergies or religious objections. I and many drivers are fine picking up animals. Lyft should also have a warning in the app that service animals use the cars the same way restaurants warn of food allergies. Lyft is required to provide service to all. But the way they are trying to accomplish it is a misapplication of the law and very lazy at best.
    In short: Lyft has an obligation to provide AN independent contractor to someone with a disability in a timely manner. They do not have an obligation to force exempt small business owners they do business with to do so. In fact, terminating the contract of someone with allergies or religious beleifs is discriminatory.

They must sit on the floor in the rear passenger seat and all the windows are open. I drive in Chicago. Suffice to say it's a brisk ride. However, another way to get instantly deactivated forever is to accept rides of underaged kids or accept rides with small kids and no child seat. I have yet to see any videos and only one post on this subject. Lyft should be creating videos of these sorts and circulating them to the public. Stop putting the ownness on the driver. Have a reminder in the app. No kids riding alone. No small kids without child seats. Also, remind the pet owner to bring a blanket in order to not spread fur all over the car seats. I'm a huge animal lover. I also have a service dog. I'm deaf in 1 ear and a severe asthmatic. She helps alert me. She has her card and because she's a chihuahua/dachshund mix, I prefer to dress her 🥰
    But when I travel, I carry her card, collar, and immunizations at all times.
    With that being said, because I'm a severe asthmatic, I must pay special attention to keep her very clean. With all the rides I've had, only 4 were with animals. I drove with windows open or I'd have an attack.
    Being a really sweet driver and an animal lover helps uncover truths!
    1st, she was just taking her dog to the vet.
    2nd, he was taking his dog home from the groomers.
    3rd, picked her up from the airport with her dog
    4th, took her to the train so she can travel with her pup.
    **NONE WERE SERVICE ANIMALS **
    I uncovered that with speaking with the owners. After telling them how much I love animals, they freely stated that they lie about being service animals or ppl won't take them. I wasn't angry at all, being that I DO LOVE animals. I'm just highly allergic.
    There are a couple of things to this...we are in a very confined space. Someone else allergic may have a reaction. Are we covered from being sued? Just wondering.
    #2 to show a lint brush is really stupid, Lyft! Out of those 4xs, 2xs I had to turn off and go to a vacuum station to get the hair up immediately! It was blanketed on my floor the 1st time and my seat the 2nd (since the carrier was a bit too small and she sat the very fluffy small dog on my seat).
    I'd now ask, how will Lyft investigate? By asking and having them lie? You can't prove it!!
    Ppl with service animals SHOULD sign up as such! When I travel, I must alert the airplane company. I must alert greyhound. I must alert Amtrak. Why can't we be alerted? This way we can prepare!! Maybe a blanket over our seats that can be rolled up? Someone with a true service animal won't have a problem alerting. I don't mind or care when I travel and ppl ask or require me to tell them. They aren't asking about my disability or my health. And I'm aware that certain ppl are allergic to my service animal. It happened on a flight and I just kindly moved without issue. I didn't have to get off, just move. But that's fair and understandable.
    It would be nice to just know so we can prepare. We don't have rented or company owned vehicles. We are using our own vehicles that some of us take special pride and care. I personally don't allow eating in my vehicle. Some ppl get annoyed...but they're nice about it. Again, it's my car and I've put money and time in it. My car fully lights up like a disco at night. That cost me a lot of money. I keep it stocked with gum, candy, and waters for my riders. I wash my car 3xs a week and vacuum every other day. And my dog never rides in my car. We ride the motorcycle together.
    I understand both sides because I'm part of both...but at least when they sign up, the question SHOULD be there as to whether they have a service animal or not! Like I said, we do it to travel...it shouldn't be an issue. And if they become disabled and in need of 1, all they have to do is update.

    Can we also have a video about how 1 passenger makes a pickup request, but 2 passengers get in. Sometimes the option pops up, "confirm 1" or "other", and when you select "other" it says "cancel ride" or proceed with 1. It's completely unfair. Also, if we drive to a destination where theres a guard gate, and the passenger cancels, we would not be rewarded a cancel fee for driving all the way there because we never "arrived" close enough to the pickup spot. That's a nice little loophole for cheating your loyal drivers. What are we doing about those issues??

This video said "Regardless of allergies" so if I have a medical condition which gives me breathing problems due to pet dander, I have no choice. How can Lyft get away with that? If I provide a doctor's certification of my allergy, Lyft still says I have no choice. I dont mind taking a service dog at all BUT why cant the service dog have their service ID out and avail? Its a pretty stupid if they dont have that out so no one can question weather or not the dog is legitimately a service dog. Example i was having lunch at a local restaurant and this lady was making a scene when her supposed service dog went to the bathroom (2)and then bit an employee. On the other end I have seen service dogs with IDs out and a number to call and verify the status of a service dog. Whats the big deal? Nothing to fear if you don't have nothing to hide. Drivers should not get in trouble for verifying that the dog is legitimately a services dog. Better yet why cant lyft verify all this before we pick up a customer. Like have a pic of the dog or have a notification about service dog on the lyft. Kinda common sense stuff

    • @RideshareGenius
      @RideshareGenius 6 років тому +37

      The law was made to protect people who legitimately have a disability and need a service animal. And I agree with that - no disabled person should be hassled and questioned about their animal or their disability. However, just like everything in life, a bunch of turds have decided to abuse this and claim their untrained pets are service dogs. Until Lyft holds passengers accountable, it's the drivers' problem to deal with...

    • @aordi5630
      @aordi5630 6 років тому +14

      Rideshare Genius why is that a hassle? Some situations are going to be obvious, some are not. Those that are not, should not be considered a hassle if the driver could just verify. Better yet have lyft verify for us im sure the legitimate disabled person can do that. That way we don't have to worry or have any problems.

    • @RideshareGenius
      @RideshareGenius 6 років тому +16

      People with disabilities have enough challenges in life. They don't need to be harassed and questioned every day. Asking disabled people to carry a special ID is a little ridiculous. What if you forget the ID or don't want to discuss your disability for the 20th time in a day? The problem isn't the service dogs or their owners, the problem is folks who abuse the policy and try to transport their pets. A solution should focus on the problem, not the legitimately disabled people who need to transport their service animals.

    • @aordi5630
      @aordi5630 6 років тому +39

      Rideshare Genius well then The easy solution would be for lyft to verify the service dog status. It would only have to be done once and every driver will know as soon as they get a lyft request that the rider will have a service animal with them and will also help in preparing a suitable space to accommodate the service animal. Also Please dont make it seam like its an inconvenience i have seen plenty of disabled people with their service animals and they proudly display the service pet id that is hanging off the animal vest, one person had a little lanyard hanging off his neck displaying the service animal pic and name to avoid any so called "hassel". Just because a person is disabled does not make them special. I treat them those individuals with dignity, respect and like everyone else because sometime they want to be treated like everyone else.

    • @MaricopaDave
      @MaricopaDave 6 років тому +22

      The problem with this is that there is no Federal database of trained service animals. Also, it is against Federal law to require someone to prove that their "service animal" actually is. All you can legally do is ask the two questions that were detailed in the video.
      Anything else, and you are opening yourself up to a Civil Rights complaint, and potential prosecution by DOJ.

      Yes, it is annoying people try to pass off there pets as service animals, but all IDs do is “allow” access to fake service dogs. People think they can go online and get there pet “registered” and that’s what makes it a service dog but that is not the case. A service dog is a dog trained specific tasks to Medicate a persons disability. Not a pet with an “ID” you can tell real service animals by their behavior.
