  • I wanted to make this video to talk more in depth on service dog laws as well as some general information about the service dog world.
    There are so many rules and laws regarding service animals so I am sure I didn’t cover all of it. If you still have questions or want to do some more research I have the link to the site that will give you all of the proper information that you need to know.

    Trying to figure out if I'm "disabled enough" for a service dog has to be the most frustrating thing to deal with for me right now. 🤦‍♀️ I just found your channel and love it. Thank you

      Honestly you can always talk to your doctor and see what they say. But if a dog will be able to make your life easier by doing certain needed tasks then that totally counts

    • @beautysdit3547

      That was a really hard thing to deal with for me too. I had people in my life tell me I wasn't disabled enough to need a service dog and had doctors dismiss me and ignore my calls for help. I finally started thinking that it doesn't matter what other people think of you or your disabilities, if a service dog can help you and they are task trained and obedience trained then it counts. All that matters is that your quality of life improves.❤

      @Truth Revealed yes the ADA does state that u have to be disabled. And it lists the definition of disability. Nowhere does it state that u have to be diagnosed by a doctor though. So people just have to go off what the ADAs definition of disability is.
      I don’t agree with this bc like u said it’s way to easy for people to just declare themselves disabled when they really aren’t. But sadly the ADA doesn’t require any proof of the disability, like they also don’t require any proof of the dogs training ☹️.

      My service dog is 16 he is a diabetic medical alert service dog . Who happens to be a extremely intelligent Shih tzu.I keep telling him he is supposed to be retired but he is my little diabetic crusader. He did ride the special door to door mini bus to go with me to my doctor appt. In Dec. One of my dogs training skills is when he is asked a yes or no question he shakes his head yes or no. My doctor always says hello to Cocco then asks him is your mommas blood sugar levels been good. And have you had to alert this week and tell your momma to test.My dog tells the truth always. Right before we left Cocco went into my purse n brought me my glucometer here my blood sugar level dropped below 90. I didn't feel it . Cocco smells it. My dog told my cousin what he could do. My cousin blood sugar dropped to a dangerous low Cocco handed him a glucometer and put it on his chest n hit it with his paw. And in shih tzu speak gave him hell. His blood sugar was around 45 . Several years later Cocco hands me my cousins glucometer. Basically he told me I was a diabetic. I was a RN I didn't have any signs or symptoms of diabetes. Cocco was easy to train how to behave. He can sit next to me in a booth at at restaurant n not beg for food. He sits on a baby blanket . A training tool, I put the blanket where I want him to sit or lie down. My uncle was a very good dog trainer n my dad had German Shepherds trained by my uncle for the hearing impaired. My dads dogs was his ears. In his job as head electrician for a tire building company. Cocco gets treats but not for his normal every day good doggy manners. He has always been rewarded with positive love and praise and my Thank you. 3yrs. Ago he woke me with a cell phone to my throat. I was having a heart attack while sleeping. He has also has told total strangers that they are diabetics. 6 months ago in Walmart he alerted to a 10yr old little girl who was severely overweight. He took my glucometer out of my purse hanging on my Rolator Walker n put it on her feet. That wasn't a fun conversation with her parents, I ended up taking her blood sugar levels with my glucometer. Good thing I did her blood sugar level was dangerously high. I called 911 immediately. For Christmas he got a 500.00 giftcard for Petsmart. For saving the little girls life. Cocco's training never stops that's why he is so smart and so exceptional. And my little hero.

      Service animal laws are annoying when people act entitled like it’s not a whole animal they’re walking through the store with or getting in your car with not everybody mess with animals now to have people try to force us to have to assist them and say we can’t not do it because they have a service dog even if animals make us uncomfortable like that or just don’t want them in our vehicles is wrong to force like if they gonna be on this type of moving they need to make specific services for these people to get around

    Very well Spake. I did go thru an on-line school and paid them for their knowledge in aiding me in training. This was a one-time fee. Did I have to? No. Did I do it for my own and Luka's sake? Yes. We took a year in training, and we are reinforcing that training daily. They are also very wonderful with after support.
    But yes, many are scamy and just want your money and don't care about the afterward support.

    I appreciate your work and the information you so clearly conveyed. However, I live in a senior HUD property and all residents are required to have their dog on a leash at all times and carried or in a cart while in the building; furthermore the county requires all dogs to be leashed. Can these rules be enforced on our property?

      It depends, for a private residence where not just anyone is allowed then they can make their own rules about dog’s example: (a private home owned by someone, a private lake where only few people are allowed..). If the place rents to anyone or anyone is allowed in like a grocery store, or apartments then they have to abide by the ADA. Meaning that service dogs are allowed and if the dog is working and is required to be off leash to
      Preform their task and is trained to be under control the whole time then they can be off leash. Pets and ESAs must be on leashes in places that require it

      I’m so sorry that happened! In the USA the laws leave a lot of room for abuse. People definitely take advantage and disgusting.
      I wish that they had a legitimate test or certification that people can get. But all the certifications and registrations are fake and that’s what all of the fake service dogs use to trick people.
      But I agree things definitely need to be different bc it’s hurting a lot of people and there is no way to prove a dog is a real service dog or not

      I totally sympathize with this. There needs to be some form of accountability imposed because, as always, many people have no innate accountability. I'll be frank here, I think people should have to get their children certified as well, to have public access. It has gotten that bad! I'm sure I'll catch flack about that (from all the parents of civilized children), but the rest of us know exactly what I'm talking about.

    I ran into this the other day with a lady at work. I run security for a large facility owned by an F500 company which has a strict no animal policy because of what work is being done. When I spoke to the woman, who entered and did not declare the animal to the guards and had it hidden in a little tote bag, she got all defensive when I asked to see some kind of credential to show that it was a service animal and she wasn't just bringing it with her to the meeting.
    Her getting defensive told me two things:
    1. She knew exactly why I was there and was expecting an argument, and
    2. She knew she was causing a scene and getting people's attention but wasn't doing anything to negate it.
    That attitude, and the attitude in this video and comments is exactly why people question yall. No one gives a shit that you have a service animal if it's legit. But whether you want to admit it or not, it's not a common thing to see a genuine service dog.
    It's not that hard to talk to the guards or store owner or manager or whoever for a few seconds to explain yourself when you're on their property as a guest. Stop being so fucking arrogant and defensive about it and calmly explain what it's for and why you have it. Most people don't know the laws and rules like you do and just because the law says you don't need to have documentation doesn't mean it's not a social expectation. You are the one disrupting the social norm by bringing an animal into it.
    Be humble and polite and no one will question it. Get defensive and bitchy, and people are going to think you're deflecting because you know that you're in the wrong. It's really no different than the stories you hear about people getting all shitty when they get caught carrying a concealed gun somewhere they shouldn't and start shouting about rights and self defense and stuff instead of just taking it out to the car.

      I would start with getting a well bread dog, and starting with puppy classes. So much is just building from a good foundation. Once you are done with basic obedience classes then u can do some more research and asking around for a trainer who has experience in service dog training. U will want to also do public access training which takes time and it’s good to have a trainer to guide u through all of that as well. But asking around your local dog trainers u can probably get some info on a good service dog trainer

    I have some questions about psychiatric service dog laws of what qualifies a service dog (registration seems to be not needed) and that service dog being attacked.

    • @dallastheservicedoodle7236
      @dallastheservicedoodle7236  2 роки тому +3

      So for a psych service dog the qualifications are the handler has to have some kind of mental disability (anything that limits them from doing daily tasks) and the dog must be trained in at least 1 task to help the handler. Deep pressure therapy cannot be the only task though bc that doesn’t qualify. If the handler wants to take the dog into public the dog must be under control at all times and in all kinds of situations. The dog cannot be aggressive.
      What are your questions about service dogs being attacked?

So, I was really struggling and had a guinea pig, she really helped me I was always holding her and I stopped fighting about doing homework or going to school. I went online and proceeded to try and register my guinea pig as a service animal, I had no idea about the laws I was 10 and my 40year old cousin had a service dog. When my aunt found out what I was doing she stopped me and had to call my cousin to help explain why my guinea pig couldn't be my service animal.

    I was wondering if schools could ask for a prescription for a service dog. I've given my school my sd's vet papers as well as my diagnosis but they're insisting on getting a prescription from my doctor. Can they legally ask for that? Also could you give me some information on leash laws and service dogs and your opinion on working service dogs off leash. I've been trying to decide if working my SD off leash is ok cause the leash interferes with my ability to do certain things as well as my sd's ability to perform some of her tasks but not all. She is off leash trained and we use an e collar as back up in case a dog charges her or something spooks her so she is always under control and wears a traffic leash as well.

    • @dallastheservicedoodle7236
      @dallastheservicedoodle7236  2 роки тому +3

      I do not believe that a school or anyone can legally ask for a prescription due to the fact that a prescription isn’t a requirement by the ADA. If it’s a private school they can ask for anything they want though.
      Leash laws are different in every state for dogs. I believe that for service dogs though the rule is the leash must interfere with a task if u choose to work them off leash. And the dog must be under control at all times.
      I almost always use a leash with Dallas. I think that people should try to use a leash if the dog isn’t actively tasking. But i also know that sometimes they don’t know when the dog may need to task there for the dog must always be off leash.
      I know some teams work their dogs off leash when they don’t need to be and I disagree with that. A leash is a tool that can be used to keep your dog safe and even though the dog may be very well trained, they can still make unexpected mistakes and having a leash just makes that easier to correct

      Too many people are doing off leash and many think it's the new cool thing to do. Theres tons of options besides off leash. There are traffic leads in multiple different lengths, Hands free leashes, etc. Per the ADA SDs can be off leash but only if it interferes with a disability and theres no other options and I believe it also states that off leash (when it interferes with a task) is only during the time it is tasking and then the leash must be picked back up.
      I highly recommend using another option besides off leash. 20 years ago off leash SDs were almost unheard of and then a lot of the younger SD handlers thought it was cool and started doing it and now theres a ton of off leash SDs who dont really need to be off leash. People say "if I fall I'll land on my dog" but that's no excuse for the dog to be off leash. If your dog is next to you on a leash or not dogs know to get out of the way. They won't stand there as a body lands on them. They are smarter than that. If a dog isnt smart enough to get out of the way then it likely shouldn't be a SD. That's just an example of one reason people give.

Idk if that’s an actual law, it is a law for resteraunts that they can’t be on the seats, so I assume it’s the same for a public school bus, but I’m not sure. The floor is also safer for them anyways so that they don’t fall off the seat in the event of a sudden stop

    Okay. Am I able to get a service dog? When I'm at school and the school is doing something in the gym or something unexpected happens and I end up around a lot of students I can get overwhelmed to the point I may or may not have a meltdown and/or call my mom because I need to leave or I let myself get overwhelmed and ignore it because I don't always realize when I am getting overwhelmed and then hope that something else doesn't tip me over the edge and cause a meltdown. Also sometimes I zone out, sometimes it's fine but sometimes I REALLY badly zone out, hard. Sometimes I get off task and get distracted by something else and forget what I was doing. I am diagnosed with autism and ADHD. I also have a Sensory disorder on top of the Sensory issues I get with autism. So...?
    Also, do you have to get rid of other animals or pets to have a service animal or dog? I don't want to get rid of any animals or have to not be around others with pets as I love animals.

    • @dallastheservicedoodle7236

      I don’t feel comfortable telling someone wether or not they qualify because I don’t know you and your situation well enough. But you can always talk to a doctor if you think that might help you decide.
      I know that there are service dogs who can be trained to assist those with autism. I’d suggest doing some research on different tasks that a service dog can provide you with. Kaelynnvp on Instagram has an autism service dog and u can probably get some info from looking at her page.
      It’s a big lifestyle change that shouldn’t be taken lightly, but if it’s the right thing for you then you may benefit lots from getting the help from a service dog

      It’s perfectly fine to walk by a service dog team. What people shouldn’t do is make kissy noises to get the dogs attention, talk to the dog, or pet the dog. But you can totally walk by us, stand by us… the dog will not get distracted by that. Pretty much just do things u normally would do just ignore the dog completely (pretend it’s not there)

    As a service dog owner, I feel that there needs to be tighter laws regulating service dogs. I say this because my dog is highly trained and there are other "service dogs" not trained that interfere with my service dogs duties. I feel there needs to be state issued ID's for service dogs so not just ANYONE can have them. I also feel that establishments should then be able to see said ID. This would clear up the fakes. • @dallastheservicedoodle7236
      @dallastheservicedoodle7236  Рік тому

      Emotional support dogs are very different from service dogs. So it depends on why u are getting the dog.
      Emotional support dogs are prescribed to someone by a doctor and are basically pets that can live in non pet friendly housing with no up-charge and they don’t require any training.
      Service dogs are for someone who has a disability (something that limits their every day activities). The service dog must be trained to preform specific tasks to assist the disabled person. And must be trained in public access if they will be going into public. It can take up to 2+ years to train a service dog. The fully trained service dog is allowed to accompany their handler into non pet friendly environments so it can assist them wherever they go.
      So if u are wanting to train a service dog to help you then id definitely do a LOT of research (read the ADA… link in my bio) search breeds that will best suit you and your needs. Look for tasks that the dog can be trained to do that will greatly benefit you with your disability. I’d recommend consulting with a professional dog trainer who has experience with service dogs to guide u. Getting a service dog is not a decision that should be taken lightly. It’s a huge responsibility, a lot of work, very expensive, and time consuming. Don’t rush into anything. Watch my video “how to get a service dog the right way” bc there are different ways to go about it (owner training or program trained dog)
      If it’s an ESA that you want then talk to a doctor who knows you and see if they will write a doctor note for u to have an ESA. Which can be any kind of pet. You won’t have to do any training bc the dog will just be at home.

If the dogs not a physical threat (biting, growling, lunging, jumping, scratching) then it must be allowed.
      I’m my opinion I would never force someone to drive me if they are that afraid of dogs and they are respectful about telling me.

    • @dallastheservicedoodle7236
      @dallastheservicedoodle7236  10 місяців тому +1

      Yes, if the dog is under control and not acting aggressive, barking, having accidents, or being disruptive… then they don’t have the right to kick the dog out if it is a service dog. Now if the employees ask the 2 legal questions (is that a service dog REQUIRED because of a DISABILITY , and what task the dog has been trained to do to mitigate the disability) then they can kick them out if those 2 questions are not answered properly.
      Incorrect answers would be…they say they don’t have a disability, or they are confused on the second question and can’t come up with a legitimate task (medical response, mobility assistance, dietetic alert, anxiety alert and response, deep pressure therapy, object retrieval, guide tasks, medication reminders… that sort of thing.)
      emotional support, therapy dogs, basic commands like sit, down, stay… those are not legitimate service dog tasks and they can be kicked out if they answer the question with answers like that.

I didn't know about the two questions but I knew service dogs were allowed almost anywhere. I scanned there tickets and opened the stroller gate and let them in. However just a few minutes later management and security guards walked them back to the front to kick them out. The couple called the police. It looked like they got a refund. Now the service dog owner pointed at me saying she was going to sue me even though I was on their side. After the cops left one of my coworkers said that the police told them they didn't have a case to sue the park due to it being a private property but they could sue the individual managers and staff.
      Now keep in mind that orientation and on the job training never told me anything about service dog procedures.

      Bc you don’t need a doctors note to get a service dog (but some programs will require one) you can always do lots of research on tasks that can help you. You can always train your own dog which is cheaper sometimes. But training a service dog without any help from a professional trainer can be very difficult and most often will not work out.
      Your best bet is to do lots of research and maybe talk to a trainer to see if you can get help if you choose to train one on your own.

    So I just was told by a senior citizen living home place in Sterling Heights Michigan that I was not allowed to come in there and that they would call the police on me because I refuse to follow their policy of proving my service dogs and service dog by some type of registration or paperwork and then saying to me I have to disclose my service dogs medical records to them to keep it on file. Want to explain them they can ask three questions the expected manager Mary became very hostile and saying if I didn't like that I couldn't see my cousin senior living home and that she would make sure of it. She told me I don't care what day they said I don't care what the government says I'm not going to follow anything that I don't think will protect the people and the senior citizen living home and I'm going to follow my policies that I put in a place to protect them and if you don't like the policy of showing me identification proof and medical registration you're not welcome here I told her where to get the information she actually did not care and told me that I am not above anybody else bringing their pet in here and I said excuse me again and it's not a pet it is a service animal is medical Life Line Equipment the service dog is there to do a job for me and she said I can do whatever I want and that nothing's going to happen to her. I called the Ada and I told him what was going on that they were holding my right to see my cousin hostage because I would not give them my so-called she claims documentation my dog's a service dog that proves he is and that I need to prove that he's up to be on his medical records like you know rabies and all that stuff just to come in there to see my cousin in the nursing home and the 88 person told me she was not above 88 she's going to call violation to 88 and it's a federal offense to even create such policies that undermine the federal rights and 88 laws and safety of handlers with service dogs she cannot make up her own little policies to try to weed out who is and who doesn't have a service animal like that that she never felt comfortable when people come in with their service animal she could call the police and they can ask certain questions because the police have the right to ask the same questions that the 88 caseworkers can ask that she could ask and to get to the mom with the dog is his service dog or not. And again it's simple if you know what is you know what is this a service dog what the service dog do and what type of service dog they are and when they officer asked what do they do they may have to elaborate just a little bit so they can determine running out the dog is legit or not but it comes down to this woman thinks that she can put these policies in place to Van handlers with service dogs from coming in to see their loved ones and that if you show up she's going to pull the police on you and I'm not let you in and then furthermore make sure that the people at the front know to not let you in. I call the Sterling Heights Police Department on the matter, and they said they've had a situations like this before the woman is clearly in the wrong and only she violating laws she's trying to create a policy that is a harmful and endangering malicious intent to cause harm to handle it with service animals that she cannot do that that they would send a peace officer up there and that we would wait for the police officer we would go in there first and tell them that we are there to see my cousin with our phones recording on the conversation and if they had any time say no you have to provide this and that we can stay under federal ID law again to them this is what you're allowed to ask and if they want to fight us on that we can say we'd like to speak to the person who I had to deal with over the phone who is the executive manager and then my mother and I would turn around and go out and then inform the police what was going on they would come in there and they would literally start getting everything all the evidence together and our phone evidence and their video evidence and if the detective manager wants to say well my policies are my policies you can leave you're not welcome here we're going to kick you out anything like that we have a right to don't press charges for malicious intent to cause harm to Handler with their service dog by refusing us equal right of entry and telling me I have to leave my service dog outside and not welcome in unless I have to prove something that I don't have any reason to prove to her because it's not legit that her so-called protocol policies or a violation of government laws and she is committing a federal offense by doing that and it is a felony to make up stuff to try to keep people out with their service animals like that so if they put her on Cops I saying he doesn't matter how much money you get does not matter what company you are you do not discriminate against Taylor's with service dogs and you do not tell him that they want to see your family member they have to comply to your policies that you I'm pretty sure from what we know never got approved which would never have gotten approved under the city and federal laws and specifically says What policies can be put in place what does not include your right to ask for validity approve of records of medical or documentation that to prove that the dog is a service animal. Right now I am waiting for Ada to get back with me and my mom and I are getting ready to find a day that we're going to go up to see my cousin and one that time comes I'm driving it but I know we have to do what's right for other handlers to give us all the boys and to stop this woman at the senior citizen living home from violating our rights as human beings to go in there with their service animals to see our relatives we have a right to be there like anybody else and no policy anyone can come up with from Manning proof of documentation that the dogs allergic to service animal or medical records that they claim that they have to put on profile in case something happens to one of their residents because of your dog and there's no such that requirement it's all lunacy it's all manipulative Behavior by the executive manager to try to fight me on it and it's unfortunate people want to claim that they're afraid that your dog is going to attack people because they can't separate pets that are Esa from service dogs and they don't want to you know take the initiative to call the police if they're not sure who can ask question and then get the elaboration on those questions to make the decision about another person should be there. And that is literally what I'm going to right now mama I am totally distraught I am anxiety fear to even show up there because I know what the woman had threatened and I don't want to put my mom in the position of having it as a second witness and then have to call the police just to be able to see my cousin because their policy are Madness and there's no such thing you cannot ask for that. And my mom thinks that because they're like a medical establishment that they think they can do that I said regardless like look I've been to the dentist with my service dog I've been to the doctors no one has asked for that and you know why mom because they can't. This is made me emotionally distressed I am anxious I am trying to take care of my medical conditions that I have and I have been having a hard time sleeping because of this and no one just have to be put through that but that's what I'm going through and I have showing my family your video but again they go and say well what's stopping people from putting their fake animals in these places that aren't service dogs. I keep telling my family if you have an issue with that don't blame handlers the service dogs don't tell me that because I have a service dog I'm making it difficult for people because some people are bringing their fake service dogs places that they shouldn't be. If they're so mad and clients have this change to make sure there's a way to identify service animals I say go right ahead do what you want to do but if you're not willing to take that up to the government and voice it to your you know Congress and whatever then you're part of the problem of why people with service dogs don't want to be around you are feeling discluded and unaccepted and that their rights to live a normal life and function out in society and be part of society is being undermined because you can't accept that there's no such thing as a registration there's no such thing as documentation there's no such thing as a medical requirement of vaccines to prove that the dogs of service animal.

      @dallastheservicedoodle7236  5 місяців тому

      This is the hard thing about America and the ADA. Bc there is really nothing to prove the dogs a real service dog. All u can do is ask the 2 questions and judge by their answers if it’s real or not. For example: “Is that a service dog required bc of a disability?” -yes
      “What task has the dog been trained to do to mitigate the disability?” - emotional support
      “I’m sorry but emotional support is not a service dog task under the ADA and therefore you will have to pay a pet fee.”
      Some examples of real tasks are medical alert/ response, deep pressure therapy, mobility assistance, object retrieval, guiding, behavior interruption, medication reminders, things like that that the dog physically has been trained to do.
      Anything that the has something to do with emotional support, or their presence helps me feel less anxious is not a trained task.
      Also if the dog is being disruptive and out of control having accidents jumping on things and is obviously not trained u can also deny them access even if it’s a real service dog.

    • @dallastheservicedoodle7236
      @dallastheservicedoodle7236  2 роки тому +13

      Not correct. It is actually illegal to impersonate a service dog. If someone does not require a service dog because of a disability then they cannot have a service dog. And even if someone has a disability they cannot just make any dog a service dog just by saying some words.
      If the dog is not trained in public access obedience and trained to perform a specific task to help with the handlers disability then it is not a service dog. And is punishable by law.
      Many people will just put a vest on their dog and answer the 2 questions even if their dog isn’t really a service dog. And still many of those people will get caught and punished. Either someone reports them, or they get kicked out of a store bc the dog is not trained, or the dog really messes up and hurts someone or another service dog (which results in major fines, jail time, and sometimes even the dogs life).
      It is very very horrible to take an untrained dog into a public place. It’s not fair to the public and definitely not fair to the dog who is now in a very overwhelming stressful environment. Service dogs go through years of training to be able to handle the public (and sometimes they even get overwhelmed) so to expect an untrained do to be okay in a public place is selfish and illegal.

No official qualification is needed. No proof of disability. No proof of trained task. Etc. My entire point is that disabled persons have to take it entirely upon themselves to have a service dog, which I’ve done. Please by all means, tell me if I’m wrong. If everything you’ve said in this video is true, my dog is a legitimate service dog (and I’ll literally never have to prove it to anyone… because there is no requirements other than those two questions). It’s not something that people should do just bc they want to take a dog with them everywhere bc it’s a big responsibility, it’s expensive, and very time consuming. It’s a huge long term commitment.
      But if u feel like this would benefit u do some research and speak to a doctor that knows you and your medical issues

      I understand what you are saying. But when I said any dog can be a service dog I was referring towards breed. Many people think that only some breeds can be service dogs. I believe that I mentioned that the dog much be task trained as well as public access trained and I mentioned many examples of how u can’t work a dog that is miss behaving, pulling on the leash, barking, whining, jumping on people, begging for food etc. I also touched on the issue of fake service animals and how papers or a vest don’t make your dog a trained service dog.

    3:25 Registries do exist and they don’t violate the ADA as long as they are voluntary and membership isn’t a requirement for access. Municipalities can have them…they like often provide things a resource if the service dog is lost, for example…or if there’s a fire in a building with a service dog the firefighters would know to look for the dog. The registries have to be voluntary and handler’s can’t be denied access because they aren’t registered. I’m getting this from the frequently asked questions page of the DOJ’s website.
    Q21. My city / college offers a voluntary registry program for people with disabilities who use service animals and provides a special tag identifying the dogs as service animals. Is this legal under the ADA?
    A. Yes. Colleges and other entities, such as local governments, may offer voluntary registries. Many communities maintain a voluntary registry that serves a public purpose, for example, to ensure that emergency staff know to look for service animals during an emergency evacuation process. Some offer a benefit, such as a reduced dog license fee, for individuals who register their service animals. Registries for purposes like this are permitted under the ADA. An entity may not, however, require that a dog be registered as a service animal as a condition of being permitted in public places. This would be a violation of the ADA.
    I hope you find this information helpful.

      Yes Registry sites do exist but the department of justice doesn’t recognize registrations or certificates as proof the dogs a service animal. It says that right on the ADA.gov website. Anyone can get one it doesn’t make the dog a service animal. It’s not illegal to get one. But it is illegal to get one when the dogs not a task trained service dog that mitigates a disability.

    I am totally blind. I adopted my dog a year ago. I never considered getting a guide dog before, because I live in a small town with hardly any sidewalks and pretty bad ditches along a lot of the streets, so the truth is, even with a fully trained guide dog, I still wouldn't be getting out much. Any time I go somewhere, it is with a friend or family member. Having said this, after adopting my dog, and noticing how smart she is, I figured I would start training her to be a guide dog. She knows a decent amount of commands, such as her directions, turn around, home, sit, etc. No bathroom issues, so that's also a plus, but we would need to work on stay, as well as public behavior, because even though she doesn't lunge or try to bite, and doesn't try to growl, she does grumble a lot when anyone comes around. Also, she tends to be a bit winy when attention is not on her. I totally want to keep working on this with her. But, even if she never gets to the point of doing things like helping me cross streets alone and stuff like that, if she is doing everything I really need her to do, is that enough to have her considered as a service dog? True, she might not be as trained as a full blown guide dog, but she is still fulfilling a task as far as I'm concerned. When we go out, I leave the cane at home, and I feel just as confident, often even more so, than when walking with the cane. I know we have to get the previously mentioned behaviors taken care of, but assuming that is done, can she legally be classified as a guide dog? If not a guide dog, a service dog?

    Thanks for sharing. More: I am a landlord and tenant's dogs have cost me $ thousands in damage and repairs over the past 25 years. Four (4) months ago a tenant vacated a property that smelled like a kennel and my (2) year-old carpets were ruined, and my laminate floors were also. Several of my interior doors were chewed also some of the trim around the doors. It cost nearly $6,000 to remedy the situation and I lost (2) months' rent until the place was fit for a new tenant. Support dogs and their owners are no longer welcome on my properties.

      I’m so sorry to hear that. One thing u should know is that they are responsible for any damage that occurs due to the animal and if they don’t take responsibility you have every right to take legal action. I’d definitely make records of how the place looked before and after as proof that it was their fault.
      And Ik that it is frustrating and people abuse the system, but u can get into legal trouble if u try to deny someone the right to have their service dog or emotional support animal. Anyone with an ESA must present a doctors note but there is no such thing as registration or certification, so u are allowed to deny if they don’t have a doctors note. But there is a law within the fair housing act (FHA) that someone cannot deny a service or emotional support animal even if the home has a no pet policy.

Sadly so many landlords have due to the people with untrained fake service dogs and it's those people who effect it for people who truly need a SD and would never cause damages. This is why I wish the US actually had some sort of legit registry for SDs so landlords can know which dogs are legit.
      In your case I think the cost of damages is actually criminal so that tenant could have faced criminal charges. Yes that wouldnt help you financially but it may teach the person not to damage someone elses property. To many people think because they rent an apartment they can destroy the place and do whatever they want and they need a reality check that it's not their property.
      I hope you were able to fix your apartment up and dont ever experience another tenant like that again. Sadly I've seen damage people without animals have caused apartments as well and in this economy I'm sure it's not easy being a landlord

    What do airlines ask for when you fly with your service dog? And is the dog free to fly ?

    • @dallastheservicedoodle7236
      @dallastheservicedoodle7236  2 роки тому

      There is a form u have to print and fill out. It asks some questions on there and then u bring the form to the check in counter when u get there. They will still ask the 2 questions that they are allowed to ask and they are still allowed to deny access to any dog that does not behave the way a service animal should. Service animals fly with the handler free of charge (bc they are considered medical equipment). ESAs can still fly with the handler also but they have to bring a doctors note and the dog must meet the size requirements to be in a kennel that can go under the feet when on the plane. ESAs and pets have a pet fee. If the animal weighs to much or the kennel is to big they are allowed to deny access of the dog.

      U can ask the 2 questions the ada allows u to ask “is that a service dog required because of a disability?” And “what task has the dog been trained to preform?”
      Normally if it’s not a real service dog that last question will stump them. They will either say something like “emotional support” or
      “idk they help me with anxiety”
      “idk what u mean”
      “well he knows to sit and he knows to shake”
      All of those answers are not service dog tasks and if they can’t answer the question then that’s a dead give away.
      They also might try to show some kind of ID or certificate and say “they can be there bc their dog is a registered service dog”… also a dead give away.
      But if everything else checks out then they can still be asked to leave if the dog is out of control or misbehaving. They cannot have a dog in a chair or cart either

    But what if your Ketchup bottle identifies as a dog?
    Not having a system of certification that requires meeting criteria has got to be the dumbest this I've heard of. The person should have an ID card and be required to present it, if asked, by the management/owners of a business or law enforcement. This would prevent the scammers bringing their untrained and dangerous dogs into business when they shouldn't. The service dogs should also be required to display a card size tag on their collar or leash or vest that identifies them as legitimate. Neither the owners or the dogs card needs to have personal info on them. At minimum, they just need a serial type number that should match on both cards. So many of the problems with fake service dogs, fake emotional support animals and people faking disabilities could be solved with a proper, nation-wide system in place. It's ridiculous to think you're being persecuted if there's no way of proving what you claim. It's idiotic.
