  • This is a lengthy topic with far more information than I could possibly share in 10 minutes, however, I wanted to help you understand the concept of 'target marketing' by sharing a couple of examples on how you can narrow down the type of person who'd be most likely to appreciate, like, share, and purchase your work.

I'm a sculptor and painter and I was worried that starting a UA-cam channel would take away from my studio time but it has been the best thing with connecting with people and getting people interested in my work! You are so right about the importance of an online presence. Love these videos!

Thank you! I feel the same - only wish I had more hours in the day (isn't that always the way, though?)

Thank you! I have problems not only with determining my target market, but with disciplining myself to limit my subject matter, style, materials. That is one thing I really admire about you and many other successful sellers. You seem to have consistent, well-thought-out and focused themes. Inspiring!

I do primitive folk art for the most part. My challenge has been finding my target market for that particular genre. Most people in my area like landscapes and animals

Hiya!! I've just sort of stumbled into your channel by way of some other artists' channels, and although my "thing" is more music-centered, and art is more of a hobby, I find your perspective on how social media works very enlightening.

This is very interesting and very true. I have a Facebook business page but Im not reaching enough people. How do I increase that. I seem to get very discouraged very often. Then I end up not posting or even painting often enough. There seem to be soooo many things I'd like to try I get overwhelmed. What a bummer 😕. I just want to enjoy creating and sharing it with others. Although I do want to sell my work. I haven't found the right place to do that yet.

Sonja, thank you for taking the time to comment - so glad you're finding these helpful. I agree, it can be a bit overwhelming. Hopefully, with each piece of info you get, you'll soon be able to map out similarities that your followers have in common and connect with them more easily.

Great info thank you. There is such a learning curve for discovering your target clients as a self selling artist. And it's an evolving goal. No artist who wants to sell their own art would be wasting time by putting in the effort to think about the type of people that will pay money to you for your art. You should do another video on this sometime again :)

It's really generous of you to share such useful and practical advice with us. Thank you so much! Talking about finding an art niche market, do you think picking 2 niche markets is excessive? Like managing 2 shops, one for each audience?

Very helpful video -- great info! Please consider doing another video on this topic; it is very interesting and relevant. I'm wondering if you would also share your thoughts on advertising (for example on Facebook). For folks like myself starting out, it seems an helpful tool to get the word out about my art, but of course, it's a process of sizing up the benefits vs costs. Thanks!

Thank you, You have good idea to say me that is really very good So I have so many people to introduce my art work that is light in my mind So I will work now with my own theory and thought behind it
I would like to say you that there are so many painting created in the past that we don"t like it but they are famous because of they are success in their thought and creation they success what they want to say and it is possible because it is a vision and their own vision.
thank you so much create yourself after sometimes the new idea will come by some experience.

Useful but I'm still not sure who my target market is as I tend to change style which is often abstract, sometimes surreal or conceptual. Other than art collectors/lovers who might like these subjects?
