They are $24 for 4 pens in Australia. So over $5 per pen, and they don't bloody write half the time, scrape the paper, and smear all over the place. Really unimpressed.
(S-Gel) Personally, I like the relative dryness of the ink in these, how pure the black is, and oddly- the type of plastic used in the pen body. Is this the best pen out there? No. But for everyday use, it's pretty nice. My daily writers are ~30 Sarasa pens in rainbow colors 0.5mm, a couple Sarasa grands in off-black, a Fischer pen in my wallet which I hate using but it always works, kuru toga pencils, Sharpie needle nose markers in black, Various Colors of bullet tip Sharpie, and a handful of affordable fountain pens in fun colors
I will say I like the designs. It is nice to see pens that 1) aren't Pilot G2 clones and 2) don't have the Power Rangers aesthetic of bright candy-coloring and/or curvilinear design like so the Energels, Vision Elites, Signo 207s, and Ink Joys.
So happy I didn't jump and get these when they were first available. I was able to get my hands on the metal barrel version which I surely prefer over the plastic. I've never been fond of large branding; however, I don't mind it on Sharpie writing instruments. It contains quick-drying ink, so I'm able to highlight over it without smearing. Not only does the metal barrel feel more substantial, it also takes, with no modification, my favorite refills: Pentel Energel LRN/XLRN, Zebra JF, and Uni SXR (Jetstream). Having a barrel strong enough to last a lifetime and knowing I have a choice in using my most favorite inks makes this a winning pen!
I have sold these (.07 S-gel blue ) to a client and put their branding on them, but the pens do smear ! Even after drying with the slightest amount of moisture. So I would not recommend this as a security ink. Otherwise nice pen. Also I feel the blue is too dark. Nice review still.
I found a Spider-Man pen that was s-gel and as a lefty who has struggled writing with normal ball points it was amazing! So with this review I might have to get these. Cheers!
The S-Gel ink formula is off. Too watery at times. After three pages of writing the color doesn’t look the same. It fades black to a pewter gray. Maybe I had a bad batch.
Nice to see a fellow lefty trying out pens. I’ve tried the Uni-ball Vision in the past, and found that they skip a bit which I didn’t like. Might try the Sharpie and see if they do better in that aspect!
Would it be possible and/or viable to transfer the S-Gel refill in to a nicer shell? Or would you prefer the other comparisons you made, the Energel and/or Sarasa?
As far as I can tell it uses the same ink and cartridges as the PaperMate InkJoy Gel! They both have the same printing and plastic cartridge- aka they basically look identical. They likely are made in the same factory I bet.
The 0.5mm roller does have a true needle tip just lime the Pilot Precise V5/V7 pens. U need to reportj on what other pens will accept the refil & what other refills will fit in it. I think tje Pilot Jetstream hybrid in refil might fit?
Got a bunch of these - they won't bloody write. They dry up and stop working and you need to scribble to get them lubed up again. Also if you don't write holding the pen at an unnatural right angle to the page it will scrape the paper with the steel side of the nib and stop inking properly. Really sub par country-that-begins-with-C (apparently critizing them got auto-yeeted by UA-cam's new comment filter) garbage that barely works. Edit: Also as a left hander it DEFINITELY smears when it scrapes and builds up gel along the metal nib, it smears far worse than a regular biro pen leaving sticky dollops of ink everywhere. Of the four pack I have not one wrote as nicely as his did. Maybe you need to scribble for an hour to break them in, idk.
You aren't the first person with this complaint. I've bought 4 (or so) packs of these since they were first sold and they all worked. Can you try putting it some warm water get the ink flowing?
Would you be able to use the Sharpie as a 'marker' if you want to write something in bold to stand out? Cuz every marker i've tried goes through the paper >:(
I reallly wanna try this but I agree with you. I cannot imagine why sharpie would jump into ball-type pens ESPECIALLY if they don't have like super-strong archival, permanent ink. I generally think of sharpie as like **the** permanent brand, and I really like a sturdy archival gel pen. I Feel like I'd be really inclined to pick these up in bulk if they were permanent. For example, uniball makes a big deal about their Super-Ink! technology so I would imagine sharpie competing well there but they dont? Kinda weird
Remember too that Newell also owns Paper Mate, and they still seem to be the US retail distributor for Uni/Uni-Ball (AFAIK the source for Paper Mate pens.) Newell also owns Expo, Sanford, Parker, and Waterman. This is a giant corporation trying to position each of these brands carefully; it could be that each division is competing internally and they don't have a plan, but is seems impossible that someone isn't working with an actual strategy for moves like this.
Frankly, UniBall's blue was beautiful in the 90s _before_ they went to "super ink", now it's kind of washed out. Talking about the regular rollerballs (Uniball Micro, Onyx, etc.) and maybe Uniball Vision. I think the Gel 207 was always super ink. I'd rather have a nice color than waterproof ink, personally.
@@unsharpenHmm... Ok. Well, I guess sharpie just felt the need to make gel pens. They are one of the best sellers on Amazon so I guess it shows the power of a brand name. Thanks for the great review.
I opened the package and discarded it before I read the back... Now that I know there's a wax tip on the pens that must be removed, I can start using them. @1:08 Thank you very much for posting! 😅
I came her to figure out how to get my pen to write....He didn't mention it but I saw it on his pen package 1:03 (as I threw mine out) that there is a wax tip on it for shipping to prevent damage. I pulled it off and the pen works great!

Can you highlight over the rollerball? I like the sharpie pens with the felt tips because you can highlight over them, but I hate it when the felt tip wears out before the ink is done. My ham fist husband has dulled more of my pens than I can count. I prefer highlighter for colour coding over different pen colours. If I can’t highlight over the writing the pen is pretty much useless to me.
The numbers on s gel pen refill are batch numbers they don't indicate what model they are as for the fonts? they look fine as they are & yes the s gel pens are better than the rollerball pens
Underwhelming performance and ink, and bad quality control. Even in the same 4-pack that I bought, the Sharpie and S-GEL logos on the barrel are all varying width. These are cheap made in China pens that are capitalizing on Sharpie's name.
Fuck the sharpie ones, got them cause i have heard such good things. they are good for a second until the ink disappars and you are just putting pressure on the paper. ridiculous.
I bought a 2 pack to try out and left them in my car as I work from my vehicle and I'm not sure if it was the heal in my area or what but the spring mechanism quit working the next day on me. So not sure if I got crappy ones or they're not built to be left in your vehicle
The one I have gobs up dries out if you put it down for a while . It feels good in the hand but if your work looks bad . I wouldn't buy another one I think it's junk .
1:55 ...I would find this Bulky part , to affect people who have callous buildup from consistent writing...or maybe not ?? 4:21 ...LOL....UGLY BROAD FUNCTIONAL CLIP 😂👍 😅 Couldn't of said it better , myself..LOL 4:54 ...no thanks...don't need another LANDFILL PEN..lol 5:40 ..LOVE that your a SOUTH PAW Scribber
I wanted to love the S-Gel pens, and after testing one or two of them, I bought a 30 pack. I have tasted most of them in this larger pack and they all seem to skip or be very dried out. I would not recommend these. I would return them if I could. Has anyone else had this problem?
Hi Great Methodical Review on these two *Sharpie* *Pens* . I'm buying them both today! Two things though. At frames 2:35 The *Big* *Font* Size is perfect for us Late *Baby* *Boomers* (who grew up with Sharpie), Baby! On the Sharpie *Blue* *Ink* Roller Pen, a _lighter blue_ (than its competition) is better for us *Creative* *Artists* who still need the blue line ink to _"disappear"_ on a copy machine at #FedexKinkos Copy Centers. Same.
Bro I’m 16 and I’m literally doing the same thing 😟
I’m still a kid lol
And there is me,the efficiency guy who found these two can replace lord v5 or v5 rt
A two gel pen pack is under 3 dollars at the local Walmart. I'm going to buy a pack this week. The pen looks good.

hows it infront of sarasa,v5 rt and energel

A 2-pack gunmetal from Walmart, a 4-pack Champagne from Amazon.

Yes they are very good especially for lefties mainly because they don't smudge & they also don't leave ink all over my hand instead of the pages
Looking for pens. Very informative. Feel old watching pen reviews at 18 for some reason.
The S-Gel ink formula is off. Too watery at times. After three pages of writing the color doesn’t look the same. It fades black to a pewter gray. Maybe I had a bad batch.
I'm loving the S-Gel! Haven't tried the Roller yet.
Yeah they write pretty good they 10 bold kind writes pretty good.

Dude, pens are so good now 🖊

Lmk if you found out what shells would work

They’re different brands, but I think they’re owned by one big company.

Does the roller ball have a refill in it, or is it just sealed/disposable? Thanks for sharing these!
Sealed
Would you be able to use the Sharpie as a 'marker' if you want to write something in bold to stand out? Cuz every marker i've tried goes through the paper >:(
Yes
Although it seems like these do not have the 'wow' factor it is always good to have competition, I suppose

I honestly think it's just an inkjoy gel rebrand as it is a Newell product and they own both brands sharpie and paper mate
When I think of the sharpie brand I think: permanent, waterproof, and can write on anything. Do these s-gel pens check off any of those boxes?
Basically, no.

Possible to have Sharpie S-Gel pen fill to fit the Zebra 701?
No won’t work
Unsharpen any good alternatives to the plastic cover s gel?
I wonder if it's possible to convert the Zebra f701 into a refillable rollerball. If I could find a cartridge that would fit though.
My sharpie roller .5 has a needle tip
Just bought a pack of 8 Sharpie S•Gel pens and none of them work.
Thanks interesting. I wonder if it was stored improperly during shipping or something like that

Review on the needle tip sharpie roller pen?
Blue pilot pen used to compare color wasnt a G2 it was a Precison v5 rt!
I switch back and forth between pilot precise and love both
Try the linc pentonic vrt click pen.
I’m honestly looking at these pen reviews to see what I want to get for my College semester 😭
I'm here to decide which pen to order for work. 🤷🏻♀️
I’d say the Gel. It’s pretty smooth. Get the metal barrel version though, it’s a lot nicer.
the pens do smear. I'm writing in a composition notebook, and it smears.
Yes. You gotta let it dry for about 5 seconds

Yea it holds up OK. Not as well as a real sharpie since it’s just a gel pen
If im not mistaken that refill almost looks like a (Pentel lr7) or a (TUL DS500) clone. Or is that just me?
Yeah, they look quite similar in shape/size

yes that is my understanding, or at least it was at the time the video was created.
I think it's a great looking pen just saw the comercial and wanted to know about them that is good amount of ink in the pen
