  • Barbie is a new hit movie from Warner Bros starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling who is literally like me. Everybody knows Barbie from the Barbenheimer event with Oppenheimer, but how exactly did it turn this brand that nobody cares about into gold? It's bigger than Marvel and Fast & Furious and Mission Impossible and even Mario. What!? How!? Well, by making a smartly positioned movie that attracts modern audiences. In today's Film Perfection, let's see how Barbie does that and how we can do that too with our own movies, even if we don't have an automatically successful brand like Mario at our disposal.

    Man, I understand if the schedule gets overwhelming sometimes. Speaking for myself, your voice is a huge part of watching these videos. You are one of the best film-analyst youtubers on the platform and even if I know that you wrote the script, it just doesn't feel like you. I don't want to be demeaning towards anyone, but I couldn't tell if this new voice was AI text-to-speech or not. Could you not hire an editor instead, and just give them your old videos and say "do it like this"? It seems like the first staff member most youtubers hire is the editor. Your editing is fantastic, but I think a good editor could do virtually the same. Can't replace your voice though.

    People can of all ages can understand the silly and zany of the movie, even if 5 year olds will not get the Kubrick or Matchbox 20 references, it still works, the jokes still land (most of the times, unlike Adam Sandler or Kevin James movies - in which the jokes don't land most of the times). What sold me initially was the interesting trailer and the fact that Ryan chose to be in this project. He rarely picks stinkers. When you implement social topics in a film it helps showing both sides of an argument and having the audience lens be their focus. The whole film had a sense of dedication poured into it, the sets, the make up, the casting, the screenplay, the acting and the score was top notch.

You say that your voice is monotone in your own dialect so in English its not that good either, I say that your voice sounds wonderful in English so I can only imagine how good it sounds in your own dialect. Your videos are such a treat, I save your videos just so that I can watch them later in the day and really appreciate them. And I'm not even a filmmaker or anything related! Please bring back your voice. I understand that you need to save some time, so I suggest having someone else do the editing. Your script and your voice are to me, what makes filmento filmento. Your editing is wonderful too, but I had a choice, I would rather you save time by having someone else do the editing.

    When Barbie and Ken were getting their first ever feature film in 2023, we didn’t expect it to do extremely well.
    There were other Barbie movies and movies featuring Barbie and Ken before this one, including Toy Story 2 and 3, but Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie became the greatest Barbie movie of all time.
    As for Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, and all the other Barbies and Kens, they all did absolutely great portraying Mattel’s popular dolls as real people. Even the humans, like Gloria, Sasha, and the Mattel CEO and his crew were amazing additions to the star-studded cast.

    There's no such thing as "modern audience", it's a made up excuse for failing movies and excessive political messaging.
    People are the same as 100 years ago, or even 200 thousand years ago. There are few differences today compared tot he past:
    - There are far more choices for entertainment, so it's harder to attract people.
    - Movies are far more expensive, so they need a much larger audience to be profitable, which has a wide range of big consequences, and generally not positive.
    - Politics infects everything. That's also a good excuse for making a bad movie, you can always blame the audience for being on the other side of the political spectrum.

  • @bobross1829
    @bobross1829 9 місяців тому +4

    This film succeeded because of brilliant Machiavellian marketing. The film itself is pretty meh, just like "Get Out". Get Out was really a pretty mediocre Twilight Zone episode. Really...white people stealing the bodies of black people? If you told people the plot before they saw it, they would eyeroll.
    Barbie first did a viral marketing thing where they somehow convinced everyone it would be cool to see this with a completely unrelated movie. I think over half of each of those movies box office was people just seeing them because it was some meme so they could post on social media they took part. Second, they outright lied in the promos about what it was about. They completely, 100% made the movie seem like it was a cutsy little family movie for young girls. They instructed no one to release reviews and barred anyone seeing it until it was released. Therefore, they short circuited the traditional backlash that might have come if some bad word of mouth circulated that undermined their lies.
    Without those two things, this would have been probably a bomb. The "lessons" learned here are not positive. They played people and exploited some inefficiencies in the marketing machine to fool people. I know A LOT of women who saw barbie with their kids who were angry that the movie was way more adult and political than they thought and would not have seen it if they knew in advance what kind of movie it was. So the key to its success was lying and media blackouts and building a marketing campaign based on creating a viral moment. It is actually pretty underhanded.

    It may prove a hit, it’s not a perfect flawless movie. When you really take a moment to think about it, it’s a confused film that, while it has its potential and bits of technical achievement, whatever “message” it tries to convey is itself confused.
    If anything, it being this massive hit (though that’s largely due to being such a nostalgic brand and IP that both adults and children have connected to for decades) may send out a very different signal to both Hollywood and audiences alike.
    Even still, such success like this won’t last forever, whatever comes up will inevitably go down. Both Avatar and Endgame have had their peaks of not only money, but also talk and relevancy, but those too had faded into the background. So I guarantee this film May will be as well.
