yes, 90% of the china comparisons or soundchecks are just meh...I understand not only metal players use china cymbals but put some effort and hit that china not just riding on it. this was great review!
Currently listening to this amazing video in Marbella, Spain. What a great way to spend my Tuesday listening to different Cymbals. I do love the China symbals, especially the Sabians!!
great comparison video! In the studio I love the sabian holy china, but if I had to choose now I would totally pick the equilibrium. just the perfect cymbal, it has everything I want in a china cymbal. sadly a bit too expensive atm :D
@@GideonWaxman it depends on the gig/situation. In my rehearsal space I use either a wuhan 18" or a Zultan Aja 18". In studio sessions I play a sabian 19" aa holy china. since it's usually heavy music I like screaming chinas without much "tone" :D for example I am not a big fan of the typical metalcore zildjian oriental chinas, since they have a certain overtone and are not that washy. the only china imo which fits my sound even better than the holy china is the equilibrium from meinl. it has the perfect balance between wash and a lil shorter sustain.
Glad to see the Istambul Xist Agop Ion China getting some well deserved recognition, I went for the 16" variant after listening to hundreds of samples online. It's phenomenal for its price.
I've been using and abusing that Meinl Custom Dark 18" for two years. I love it so much that I've cracked it and had to notch it. It has the perfect amount of dark washy whip, what a beauty
@@GideonWaxman ....another Meinl Custom Dark Heavy! I tried the usual research and shopping around for something different or better, and the others I considered were also Meinl. The Extreme Metal 18", the Custom Dual 18", and the Byzance Brilliant Heavy Hammered in 18 and 20"...but to my ear, and for the sound we play, I still haven't found anything that beats the Custom Dark Heavy.
The Dark model has a darker and slightly more 'earthy' tone compared to the standard Classics Custom china which has a brilliant finish and sounds brighter.
These sound very good. I would rank them like this: 1 Tied the Holy China and the Equilibrium China 2 Istanbul Agop 3 Classics Custom Dark 4 Zildjian Oriental 5 Zildjian Heavy Hammered
Just like everything else i guess (the big majority of things, housing and food, maybe clothes became cheaper because of many chinese productions). Its always hard to have a proper explanation on price of things.
You're missing the worlds greatest china cymbal - 18" Wuhan Koi Conical Dark China No I am not joking. There is nothing better sounding. Not even kidding. It's also one of the cheapest at $160.

Is the Sabian Holy China a Chad Smith one? That's what eBay gives me. That or the brilliant.
@evanhayes5891 Yes it is! Chad Smith is now with Paiste though.
Hey man any difference between Meinl 18 Custom Dark China vs Heavy version? They have a new line up I guess
@maximumcarl8138 I personally prefer the Dark version over the heavy. Think it responds nicer and feels better to play!
@GideonWaxman Awesome thanks, appreciate the response.
Damn, someone who actually wacks a china in a cymbal comparison video for a change. Nice dude!
Haha thanks man! Gotta hit them right for those breakdowns 🥁

@@GERGOCZE Appreciate that! Thanks!
I love the music you used to test these, it fits perfectly!
Thanks! I wrote it a few months back and thought it would be perfect for this comparison. 😄
Any chance we could find that music you were using? Love to play along to it. Thanks for the awesome comparison video.
This is easily one of the best videos I’ve seen demoing cymbals keep it up!
Love that! Thank you so much 🙏I'll definitely keep the content coming!
Currently listening to this amazing video in Marbella, Spain.
What a great way to spend my Tuesday listening to different Cymbals.
I do love the China symbals, especially the Sabians!!
man that Sabian AA holy sounds amazing
Love the Classics Custom Dark one the most! Super nice that it's affordable. Gives plenty of room to blow cash on the other cymbals 🥲
Yeah that one sounds awesome for the price!
I’ve got an old Paiste 505 20” china and it’s an absolute monster
great comparison video! In the studio I love the sabian holy china, but if I had to choose now I would totally pick the equilibrium. just the perfect cymbal, it has everything I want in a china cymbal. sadly a bit too expensive atm :D
Thanks dude! What china are you using currently? I saw you playing Zultan before. I'm a big fan

Agreed! The Xist line is incredible value 👏

It's an epic cymbal! What did you replace it with?
@@GideonWaxman ....another Meinl Custom Dark Heavy! I tried the usual research and shopping around for something different or better, and the others I considered were also Meinl. Did you have the medium or heavy one? I want to get one myself but no one ever say’s which one they’re playing
@@dustininge3409I replaced a heavy with another heavy. I think Gideon's playing the medium weight version here. Both are monster 🤘
My ear just comes alive whenever I hear the Zildjian Oriental china’s. I had the perfect 16”, I really wish I still had that cymbal!
Such a great cymbal!
@@GideonWaxman Yep they sound unique.
Perfectly executed China demo! I like the Meinl.👌👌
Thank you so much! I appreciate it. 🙏
That zildjian ultra hammered china sound and look is stellar.
@gestalt7756 I've used this cymbal in the studio several times- it always delivers!
The 19” is the way to go. TRUST me.
That Zil ultrhammered is crazy gorgeous. I just noticed it in the Chimaira inkarceration set 🔥🔥🔥 and got to searching for it. The price, though 🤯🤯🤯
Hey man would you make a video on how you got your snare to sound crisp like that?
Thank you for this excellent video
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed 🤘
the sound of your drum is AWESOME. I liked is so much :)
@@borscast thank you so much!!
I have had many china but my favourite one is still Stagg DH 18". Very versatile, super sound...sadly It crack after a while...
The Paiste 2002 20" Novo is like "WTF?"
Right on
Novos are king.
NICE SELECTION!
Glad you liked it!
great taste man , try the 21 version of the Sabian holy, it's killer
Oh for sure the 21" version is a beast! Glad you liked my choices!
Paiste?
Well done. New sub
Thanks for the sub!
one question: does the sound change from the Meinl Classics Custom Dark China to the Meinl Classics Custom China?
The Dark model has a darker and slightly more 'earthy' tone compared to the standard Classics Custom china which has a brilliant finish and sounds brighter.
thanks!
The whole custom dark series mostly sound very different to the classic custom cymbals. In my opinion, they don't even match each other at all.
Nice one but you forgot queen of china cymbals : sabian AAX Xtreme 19"
Cheers, and yeah I do love the AAX Xtreme line!
meinl byzance china is a gread china cymbals for rocks parts ore sabian china cymbal very cool sound for this rock part
Zilldjian K custom Dark/Z custom/Fx Oriental/Paiste old version twenty/ Zil Swish Knocker wt riviets/and of course Zildjian Low volume 18 china)

Cheers! Glad you liked it
These sound very good.
I would rank them like this:
1 Tied the Holy China and the Equilibrium China
2 Istanbul Agop
3 Classics Custom Dark
4 Zildjian Oriental
5 Zildjian Heavy Hammered
Glad you liked my selection!
wuhan china 18" for me is 👌, and I'm not afraid to smash it because it is very affordable. haha
Check out my review of the brand new Zildjian Z Customs!

I'm surprised that the meinl and oriental is the ones i liked the most.
The Equilibrium Byzance or the Classics Custom Dark?

Has anybody noticed that cymbals are like twice as expensive ans they used to be a few years ago
