While working on a golf course in Florida, I saw a gang of otters teasing an egret. Egrets are actually pretty tough about aiming that beak at animals that bother them, and even dogs leave them alone if they've been hit once. Just so you know the danger to the otters. Anyway, the egret was minding it's business, fishing in a stream, and getting ready to strike a fish, when three otters that were waiting just for this opportunity, slapped the water, and the fish moved. The egret walked on down a bit and tried again...same slap on the water. They kept at it for ever. I went off to mow and came back and they were still at it until the egret started going after the otters. They didn't attack the egret, when they could have. They didn't get their own fish. It was literally more important to the otters to irritate somebody, than to eat or be safe.

A marshall from the army happened to be there at the same time and jumped into the enclosure to save her. He was successfull but gave his life in the process as the Otters atacked him while the lady escaped. The monument to his sacrifice can still be visited next to the restructured enclosure.

I love the river-wolves so very very much, and they're losing their habitat insanely fast. You mentioned that the tamarin monkeys are endangered- the South American river otter population is even lower, and shrinking. As for their aggression toward humans, only 44 cases of otter attacks have been published worldwide since 1875. Such encounters are often the consequence of increasing human encroachment upon otter territory.

This channel is great, man. Very informative, casual, and funny. You encompass all of those aspects to make your videos very enjoyable and watchable for multiple audience groups. Animal lovers, check. Fact nerds, check. Casual UA-cam goers, check. Intellectuals, check. Humor seekers, check. Curious people, check. And that's just a few groups, of which a lot of people identify as more than one. Keep up the good work man. You seem like a genuine and cool dude, and you're smart but not flashy and overly complicated about it. You work hard on your videos and put together nice sums of information to share. You're also one of the few people that actually makes good puns and can be funny without trying too hard. UA-cam needs more channels like you. Those are the kinds of teachers we need! The ones that are so excitable and happy sharing their favorite subject. I had awesome history teachers growing up (3 were above and beyond) and it really led me to always have a strong interest in learning the facts of history and the distortions by the lens of the victor. If kids could have that for every subject we would be leading in education internationally.

6:57 Some species of otter have been observed and documented raping while drowning young (sometimes baby) seals. They maul the nose and frontal face area to subdue it before the sexual assault. Male otters establish a form of alpha dominance that limit the number of females willing to mate with the male otters that are subdominant. It's the subdominant male otters that go on to take out their sexual needs on other animals.
That's not the worst of it... They sometimes hold on to the drowned corpse of the young seal and continue to rape the dead body for days and sometimes even weeks on end.
And in 2015 a family in Vancouver lost a pet dog because an otter literally lured the dog and proceeded to... do what they do... to the pet dog and the family had to watch as the otter bobbed the head of the dead dog above the water so that the family could see it desecrating the corpse.
    Still think otters are cute?
