I have this system on my steep metal roof in a forest with hundreds of trees close by - after 25 years a few small sections were damaged by falling/sliding ice - I plan on replacing them soon
Years ago, we had gutter helmets (American Standard) installed. The prevailing tree detritus here is Douglas-fir needles. They did nothing--the small needles would stick to the helmet edge and be swept into the gutter, along with any gravel or dirt washing off the roof. Note that GH and Leafguards are installed by dealers under franchise and that the mother corporation does no installation at all. Therefore, the warranty (we had a lifetime warranty) lasts only so long as your dealer stays in business--and chooses to honor the warranty. Our dealer went out of business; our gutters were clogging and American Standard suggested we find another dealer to honor the warranty. The closest was over 100 miles away and simply hung up on us when we asked. When the house was re-roofed, the helmets were torn off and scrapped. We went back to hiring someone to clean the gutters twice per year and were money ahead. Be warned--and beware! Investigate BBB complaints as a minimum.
GUTTER HELMET---- OVER 30 YEARS, EXPERIENCED EXCELLENCE OF GUTTER HELMENT INSTALLED ON TWO NEW BUILT,, PREVIOUS PURCHED HOMES , IN WOODSTOCT AND CANTON GA. STARTING IN EARLY 90'S UNTIL PRESENT, 2022. NEVER HAD TO REMOVE A LEAF OR CALL ANYONE FOR REMOVAL OF SAME. PERFECT SATISFACTION!
I had them removed last week...They caused sooo much damage with water flying over the gutter. Damaged patio brick stairs damage behind sidding...And always getting birds nest....I recommend yearly gutter cleaning instead...
My parents put it on about 40 years ago. Several years ago I got on a ladder and looked inside the gutters and they were clean and a large tree was near by.
@Sarah Card please share more details on this. I would love to hear about other peoples experiences before I continue to purchase more products from this company.
@James Holden I’ve still been happy with them I just wish the style I chose was less expensive. I would give them an 8 out of 10. We went with the larger gutters because they looked like crown molding on our home. If you purchase them through Costco you should get a Costco rebate and the price is also a bit lower. Also, if you look into it, they usually offer 20% off their gutter installation. Although I’m not sure that could be combined with the deal you get through Costco.
i've had the same brand for about 3 seasons. they do not work great for pine needles. i just had my house sided and the downspouts came off and several of them were completely clogged.
@DavidPr-jk7fo I do product reviews on my channel often, mainly products that I’ve been satisfied with, I wish the company would give some sort of kickback for my review but I’ve never received money, gifts or free product from this gutter helmet company.
@larryboody6737 I found that the guards can be adjusted and set back to prevent the overshoot of water. I had a section doing the same thing and I had gutter helmet come out and adjustments were made and the overshooting issue was corrected.
I've had gutter helmets for 19 years. They've been pretty good. I need a new roof, they came out to estimate how much to take them off & put them back on. $4100! I paid $3100 originally. Over $12,000 for new ones. It voids the warranty if someone else touches them. I had a bad gutter and took them off one section. Mud & leaves underneath the helmet and roof. Screws falling out, brackets bent and screws that screw nowhere. The adhesive was put on hit or miss and we're not glued down. Water got behind the gutter and rotted the wood. Installer had moved the drip cap and left it open behind the gutter. There even was a cut-off scrap from trimming the helmet blocking the downspout. I'm m getting rid of them all. They quoted me $71,000 for a new roof , gutters, r&r the helmets..the other estimates were less than $20,000 w/o the helmets. Stay away from these.
Gutter Helmet is awesome. I’ve had it 24 years and it’s been flawless. Keep Tweekin.
10 years and no issues with ours. Good product!

@tubastuff thank you for sharing your experience, I hope that is not the case for all of us.

Ours have been horrible.

Does it work in heavy rain???
Yes they do, here in western Washington we get some pretty heavy rain fall.
I'm interested in a Gutter Helmet and am in the PNW too. Any revised thoughts?

@James Holden btw hello neighbor! We are in the Olympia area 👍

People who buy a product do not do this. This is absolutely a representative for the company he's representing right now.

My roof is a little steeper and the water over-shoots the gutter during heavy rain
