Nice review, just brought my first bike and chose the drz.... Speedo has light but no display so I’ll need a new one!
Great too see it has the tacho, definitely an upgade. The light cluster addition look great too
Nice Reveiw. I'm looking forward to getting mine....ordered yesterday.
Awesome!! You're gonna love it... thanks for stopping by and liking the vid!
thank you so much for watching it and liking it! :)
Thanks man! Glad you like!
Mine has gotten washed and rained on and it's fine, so I'm guessing a few puddles won't hurt nothin'. Seems to be pretty weatherproof and sealed.
Thanks for the info. Just got my drz a month ago, and have been thinking of doing this upgrade.
Sure thing man! Glad it helped!
Thanks Nater! I'm stoked that it helped you! :)
Good one man, thanks for the upload.
+Vykier and thank you for stopping by!
I wired it straight into the 12V just like the instructions said...I forget now exactly what points the connections were made at, but I'm 90% certain I wired it up to "wake up" when the bike was switched on. It worked pretty well...no dead battery! Hope that helps...I would get a wiring diagram and look for a spot where you can tie into the 12V that's active only when the bike is on. Best of luck!
No worries! Glad to help, and let me know how it turns out!
Great review. Very helpful in letting me know what im up for this coming friday :) Thank you!
Great feedback. Thank you very much for posting!
Well thank you sir for all your additional help .
no worries...in fact... I think this is the link you are looking for!

Hey Greg! Well hopefully you won't have too many power issues, but yeah, it's a great bang for the buck. I hard wired mine to the tach and it's glassy smooth.
Add the shift light/red line light and it's a killer set up.Thanks for the remarks!! Enjoy your Vapor! :)
What did you enter for the wheel size? How do you keep the trip odometer from resetting every time you turn the until off?
thanks man! Appreciate the kind words!
Ok thank you so much! I'm going to go order my Vapor soon now. Thanks again :)
how is the connector to the battery running and where did you make the switch to light it up?
can i install any of this vapor computer on my suzuki gs500f? installing the engine termometer on the spark plugs? thank you
So if i get this after i get supermoto tires, lower gearing and new exhaust, this will fix the speedometer?
Does this work on quads? I have a warrior and I want to have the vapor for the RPM reading but I didn't know it would have to be all the wiring. I tried to research but I couldn't find nothing
Nice I've been looking for something like this for a while!
Awesome!! Thanks man...glad it helped you!
OK GREAT! Thank you so much! But one question... with wiring the coil... what exactly is that? Also with wrapping the sensor, do you simply just wrap it? Because my plug is right on top of the head obviously and I'm worried about the sensor getting to hot.
I'd like to! It's monsoon season up here but I'll try to find a good time to get out with a cam and shoot some driving footage on the street.
Is there a backlight on it so i can see it while i am riding in the dark?
how did you power the Vapor trail tech? I tried to install the power wires in the ignition coil but my battery would die.
Great review, I have one on order I got from amazon for about $80 shipped! I'm putting it on a 06 YZ450F and unfortunately if you wire it up to the stator you may have problems starting on this particular bike since it creates just enough power for the ignition. I may wire the Vapor up to a 9V battery and just install a external switch to power it up. Either way it really is a bang for your buck! I'll probably hard wire the tach as well.
First thing that I'm doing to my new (to me) Husky TE450
Yes. You are looking for the Trail Tech Vapor Kit model number 75-701. Double check the Trail Tech website to make sure!
hey mate I have one of these on my 08 drz400sm, how do i reset the trip on it?
Great vid, I want get one for my XR 400. Was it difficult to install the tach coil into the spark plug cable? Thanks!
Nice..bought one today with alu frame and indicator lights for my Yamaha Dt125 R 1999.
Complete here in Belgium it is 170 euro...good price..
+Tom van thienen congrats on the purchase man! Enjoy the ride out there with the season coming up!
Yes, I do think it could handle that! I would avoid spraying water into your coil where it would be hooked up for the tach gauge, and I would avoid getting the connectors overly soaked, but that's true of any electrical equipment. But I think even the connectors are well sealed so I wouldn't worry too much about it....just don't blast away at it directly with a high pressure hose. I think it's a great unit for ATVs. :) hope that helps!
You can also set the odometer to actual mileage of the bike.
Nice summary, I have one on a JLR and soon to put one on my DRZ400.
Indeed ya can and I did back when I had the bike. You'll love it on the DRZ!
Oh, so you don't lose your actual mileage if you set this up?
Possibly! You'll actually need to go to their website and check their lists to make sure you find the right model for your bike. They are somewhat specific, so take a gander on over there and double check!
No worries bro! :)
I would try disconnecting it from your bike power, and then take the battery out of the Trail Tech for a few minutes and let it sit.
Then try plugging it back in and see if that reset helps it at all.
Hope that helps!
Great review mate!
Is there a cylinder number setup, so I could run this on a 4 cyl engine?
Yup! Off a 525 I think...stripped out the old crappy bulb and stuck an HID kit in there...5500K, 35W from DID Tuning. Best upgrade I ever did and cheap and easy to do. :)
How did you wire the tachometer?
Video please?
the computer shows me all the time 5,9.
Do you know what i must do, to fix it?
Sorry for my bad english ^^
I've read a few reviews saying the speed is out going above 45mph, does yours?
Good question! It may vary by model, but the battery hatch on the back on my old one looked like a watch battery...flat, pancake shaped. My guess is it may be an easy find at Wallmart or something, or really cheap from Amazon. I'd say look on the back of your Vapor unit and pull that battery hatch off, and see what's in there. The battery model number is probably on the battery itself...
Conversely, if you are running it off the 12V, make sure it's getting enough juice!
How does the rpm´s work? how it measure that? Tks for the video!
What front light is this?
I saw on Amazon model 752-901 fits for klx140 (my bike) and i thought it'd be cool to have that. Is it true that it fits on klx140?
Thank you sir! I assume it will--however, go to the Trail Tech website. Each model varies slightly to best match certain bikes. The 752-301 model you see here works on the DRZ, the RMZ, and I think the KLX 400s. Their other models are set up to match a lot of different bikes. I love this thing...go take a look at their site and find ya one. :D
does this thing tell you how much mpg your getting while your on your throttle?
Can u tell me what is the problem if it don't go to sleepmode
do you t5hink these will be good for enduro racing?
does it keep track of the overall milage of the bike ? i want to get one but i think it will mess with the resale value if i dont track the miles.
yep, sure does! I did with mine...I will say that ANY non OEM odometer will kill your value, mileage correct or not. If you can, keep that stock ODO with the miles.
If not, make a very clear video showing the before and after to show potential buyers someday.
hey! It's actually very quick and very accurate...more accurate above 15 mph ish. But it will actually say "35.3" mph, and it's pretty up-to-the-split-second...I felt like I always knew my speed with instant accuracy. Hope that answers your question!
Would this work on a Atk 605 Rotax?
Hey Andrei! It's a KTM headlight, with an HID bulb installed. You can find them on eBay or from KTM dealers. It cost me about $80 used from an internet site.
Hope this helps!! :D Thanks!
Sorry to bother again... But, i went to their website and saw the Trail tech Vapor in Stelth (Black) the that i was thinking of ordering... But iI didn't see any lists to check for what model... Do you know what page I can check this on? Thanks!
I believe so! Their little manual walks ya thru the set up pretty quickly...so yeah, it should do metric/C numbers if you set it up that way.
I have installed it at my 640 adv and i have noticed that when the interior battery run out and replaced it, it looses all the data km,time etc...
Can you change MPH to KPH? and change Fahrenheit to Celsius??
It's fairly waterproof. The plugins are sealed with rubber o-rings etc, and it looks legitimately waterproof. I wouldn't blast it directly with the hose, but I remember getting mine wet several times and it being fine. So don't gratuitously soak it, but don't fear the water either. Hope that helps!
What’s the power source? Does it have to be wired to a battery?
If I get this should I worry about rocks or tree branches breaking it? I race hare scrambles and Gncc locally. I don't really wanna spend an extra 50 for the aluminum mount/protector but if it will keep this from breaking, I will.
That's is a what i need buddy ! 2013 drz moto burned out ? great video , thanks gonna get it !
glad it helped man! Thanks for stopping by!
will it work on a kawasaki kx 100?
Hello sir i was going about 50 on my gy6 ruckus and the yellow light came on is that just wanring light or what? Ty
hey man, if I had to guess I'd say it was a rev limiter/red line light or indicator. I'm not sure what it's set at stock, but that's my best guess!
Great video ! I'm interested in buying the TrailTech for my '05 DR660 SE , however I'm not sure if I would be able to transfer my mileage . Or did I miss that part in your video ?
There is "a way" to do this...it's not well-known because of the abuse potential, but a few creative google searches should yield what you're looking for. I programmed this one with the correct mileage...there's a legit way to do it. I don't remember what it was (since I sold the bike three years ago) but yes, you can transfer mileage. :)
Sweet vid, man. helped a lot!
+dorkus98 no worries, glad it worked for ya!
Well...in theory, yes it should. The RPM reading is done either by wiring straight into the coil (which quads have, right?) or by wrapping the sensor wire around the spark plug cable. So the RPM actually might be the easiest thing to connect on your quad. Hope that helps!
good video, call all the info I need. might get one for my 05 KDX 200 now
Awesome! Glad it helped!
now is this a universal? would it work on a honda monkey bike?
I know it might be different depending on country .. But does a motorcycle require those indicator lights, hi beams, neutral lights to pass local warrants? (Dashboard) I'm trying to avoid spending extra if I just need the vapor ;) thanks!
hey that was a great review i just have one question is it water resistant like from rain or puddles i don't see why it wouldn't be im just curious.
I forget exactly on the wheel size...I measured it very carefully and then converted it into mm. Because I don't remember exactly how to do that, I'd say "read the Vapor guide" on the wheel size and all that.
Now as for the trip odo, I wired the gauge into the bike's ignition so it turned "on" when the bike did. That being said, it holds the mileage via the internal battery, so make sure your battery is good--a dead batt can kill your odo I think. hope that helps!
Ok. I will. Thank you so much!
Is their any indicators?
Thanks, good review. I have been looking at these but have been hesitant because the bike only cost $200..
I have one on my bike and i have problem with almost everything. I bought bike with vapor instaled allready on it so it can be problem with instalation. When I run my bike it not showing anything until i press mode buton. After that it's showing me only speed, tacho is going crazy all the time and when i put some gas on bike rpm is showing with about second delay and not right it goes directly to 2000 RPM and stop with delay... Do you have any idea what is happening with my vapor. Thank you for your answers
hey Davor!
I would try taking the battery out, replacing it, and resetting the unit.
I'd also try rewiring the tach...it sounds like the RPM detection wire is loose. The loose wire maybe the cause of your delay. Try wiring it straight into your coil, and it might be more accurate. I hope this helps you!!
Well, I can't say for sure but here's two thoughts:
1. Did you wire it straight to the battery or to the ignition? If you wire it to the battery straight, it doesn't know when the bike is "off" right?
2. It takes a long freaking time to go into sleep mode. 30 min+ maybe?
hope this helps!
is it hard to wash your bike because of the electronics on there or is it kinda water proof?
will it work on a pocket rocket?
Thanks mate! I don't actually...someday I hope to! Right now I just do product photography. :) But glad you enjoyed the vid, hope it helped ya out!
that's a great question. Here in AZ, in the US, no. In fact, I'm not sure even a speedo is a requirement out here. Headlight, turn sigs, brake light--definitely. But the rest...I don't think so for most of the US. I would ask your local motor vehicle division for the low down on that one!
Are you referring to the sensor for the temp? Cuz this version with the bolt puts the sensor right into the coolant, so...6 of one, half dozen the other? This version seems accurate enough I reckon. If you were meaning a different sensor let me know...but the accuracy seems to be spot on.
So will this work on basically any atv?
I got a Yahama Bruin 250 2005 I just got today and im looking for ways of making it nice.
It *should* work on your average ATV but I'd do a little googling and a maybe shoot Trail Tech an email and see what they think... I'm sure they're used to their product being used on all sorts of vehicles by now!
Nice video dude, Just bought one for my Crf150f
+Patriot Parker Awesome!! Get that bad boy installed and go ride! :D Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks, I will! +rogueguineapig
yep! That's why I love Amazon. :)
i have a 1997 suzuki 650se and i dont see a stock hole where i can pop in the wire??
You don't have water cooling
Please help! I bought motorcycle that is already including that speedometer.
How do I check total kilometers???
Thanks.
+Tomer Levi try switching it
Awesome! let me know how it goes!
If I remember correctly (and it's been a while since I rode it since it's been cold as heck here) you go to the screen where you can see your trip meter, then hold the center and right (or left) button down together for about 5-6 seconds. You should see the RPM gauge flash once, and then again after a few seconds and it should be reset. Let me know if that works for ya!
Can I install this on my 1995 zx7r? Making a street fighter and need a small compact gauge cluster and thought this would be the best option. Do you gu
It *should* work...my brother put one on his Ninja 500 and it worked just fine. I think it's probably the best option for what you're doing...just do a little research about cylinder numbers but I think you should be ok
Will this work on a dirtbike without a battery? Also would the speedo work i have drum breaks on both sides no disk I know its a little small but my bike is a 2001 xr80r
I *think* so...it runs off it's own internal battery, so yes. Now if you want to power it from the bike, you'd need to find 12V coming off the stator somewhere and tie into it. hope this helps!! :)
I understand what you are saying. Ill try it saturdayish.
Hey Ry,
well mine survived a dump, and honestly, I think you'd probably break the mount first. That being said, I'd protect my investment.
I drive on-road, so if my speedo gets smashed it means I probably did too. For you, yes, I'd be on the safe side. Or just order it, look it over, and then order the protector if you feel it necessary. :)
Good luck!
is it water resistance
Thanks man!!
Where you see the fluid temperature?
anytime! I think it's in the upper right if memory serves, but I'll say that it might have to heat up to a certain point to get it to kick on...maybe like 112F or so? hope that helps!
Can you change it to kmh
Hey Lifted! I would go to Trail Tech's main official website. That will tell you if the 752-301 will work on your '05. It *should*, but ya never know. I wouldn't take Amazon's say as final...so check their site. As for the mod, I ended up using a piece of fabbed aluminum to get the mounting right. It's not perfect, and it's not pretty but it works. I'd check Home Depot for aluminum bits to try a fabbed mount.
oooh...that would look sick!!
i appreciate it man thanks!
Did it come with the speedo cable?
yep! Sure did! It's just a thick little wire with a sensor on the end that you secure down on the forks and put the magnet in the disc where it's supposed to go and you're set! That's all included...it's a very handy little kit!
Good question! Ummm...well, the speedo SHOULD. The tachometer...yeah, it should too if you hook it up right. Temp gauge I'm not so sure about...but I would imagine that if you had a little time and imagination you could at least get most of the features to work. Hope that helps!
