Months of passion, sweat, and hard work was put into this video and I hope it shows. A life philosophy of mine is to improve every day. I hope you can see the continued improvements of this and my future videos. I also took a break from UA-cam and which really helped me grow as a person and my UA-cam knowledge. Thank you for waiting for me. I'm posting frequently on my second channel here, and will leave bigger projects like this on my main channel. Very nice video, and striving to improve every time is always a good goal. But remember that it's also a major pitfall nad that realistically, it's impossible to literally always improve.
This is a great point. Dylan probably sees himself as a "good catan player" (which he is, except he's far better than good). However, what he may not realize is that he is also an EXTREMELY talented video creator and story teller. I find watching his videos relaxing, even if I've seen them before. Hopefully he sees this comment and understands just how talented he is.
I love the talk, the animations, and commentary on positioning and crucial moves - really energetic, but clear and easy to follow. Didn't play much Catan in my life but I love the game and it feels entartaining to watch and listen to such a great player! Keep it up man!
Congratulations, Dylan! Can't help but clap for you with that win for nationals. What a great way to return from your UA-cam hiatus. Hyped for more uploads!
Nice video. I hate when people go against the table and trade someone the win out of their own arrogance. You were inspiring to your viewers by accepting the situation and stoically moving on
Yay for DyLighted's return to UA-cam! Fantastic video, though if I could offer one suggestion for improvement, imo the music was a touch too loud in comparison to your voice-over (though maybe that'd be better if I were listening on headphones?). Just some food for thought!
An audio engineer tip: other than adjusting levels, make sure you are not competing with the music in the same frequency range. if you can look at the EQ in whatever sound/video editing software you have, find out the frequency range of your voice and bring down the freq. of the music in 2 spots: 1) the frequency of your speaking voice (~150 - 200 Hz) 2) the frequency range of the consonants (2kHz - 4 kHz) Similarly, raise the EQ on your narration track in these spots a little, and it will help too.
@@michael-solomon any professionals should. Im a musician and I know a lot of musicians who actually got into music from video editing; making very primitive remixes from the tools inside video editors. My point is that if youre a good editor you would be using those kinds of tools
Glad to have you back DyLighted! As a casual Catan player myself it’s awesome to see so many others with such a strong passion for the game. Keep up the great work!
Congratulations man, I've been seeing your videos for almost 2 years already and have introduced many friends to Catan world. As we live in Brazil, the game is 1/3 of a regular salary so me and my wife decided to continue playing online since 2020 and last month we bought our game, with it we introduced more friends and family members :D Congratulations once again and win the nationals!
I found your videos a few months ago which got me into playing on Colonist. Before that, I'd only played Catan several times with friends. Now that I understand the strategy of the game and have seen a lot of different scenarios play out, this kind of content has become way more enjoyable. I remember watching your first vlog and feeling so confused. Ggs and congrats on making Champs
Ey one of your best videos by far Dylan, so cool, and very easy to follow along. A lot of boardgamers do not always make their videos digestible and easy to follow along from a viewer's perspective. Good stuff!
Thats some great storytelling and editing right there Dylan! I'm so glad that you decided to post YT videos again, they are always so high quality! Congratulations and an early good luck in the Nationals 🎉
Wow. If anyone can actually deserve things, you definitely deserve that win! Yhe way you break down the game has made me love Catan all over again, best of luck for Nationals!
I know Catan gets a lot of flak in the board game community for being too simplistic, but I think a lot of people don't appreciate the amount of strategy and thought there is at high levels of play (as you clearly illustrated here). Also I really have to give Catan Studio/Asmodee credit for creating such a great competitive scene. Congrats on the game!
To me, it feels strange that 90% of the game seems to be in choosing opening positions, with the rest more or less seeming to be a matter of going through the motions afterward. I think this game gets played at this level just due to its sheer popularity, which is itself due to its accessibility (ease). Consider something like Terra Mystica which is basically Catan on steroids, featuring perfect information rather than a heavy reliance on chance. Most would agree it is the better game, but you don't see national tournaments for it because it is just less accessible to the average person. The fact that he is sitting at tables with regional and national level players that still appear to make fundamental mistakes in play also says a lot about the competitive scene for this game.
Awesome video DyLighted! You are a fantastic sport and want nothing more but to pass on the wonderful knowledge of Catan to us all! Good luck at nationals!
I am always happy if you upload a new video. I can see that you're putting a lot of post process effort in it. It's been a fiew years now that I've played Catan, but it's still sitting in my heart. I just don't feel like playing it. But your vids give me satisfaction
I have never played SoC, but I REALLY enjoy these videos! It is always entertaining to watch and listen to someone who knows the subject matter in such depth! Thank you for sharing, good luck and best wishes from Texas!
Dude, I don't know if anyone told you this, but this video is very high quality. Like, it's in that category of really quality youtube videos that are really successful.
I just got into your videos a week or so ago and was binging them. I saw that you were no longer uploading, which made me sad, but now you're back! Warm welcome back DyLighted, hope you enjoy your stay.
Really awesome video. I could notice all the work put in. I'd love to see more videos even if they have less work (and not personally a fan of the second channel idea). Anyway thanks for the video and best of luck!
Your past videos from your tournaments or even just stream games reignited my passion for this game, thank you so much! I'm so glad to see you're back on UA-cam too! Now go get the Nationals in your pocket, we believe in you!
Lets gooo!!!! SO great to watch you come back and play so well. And I'm glad you didn't spoil the win in the title, I was so invested for the whole video. Good luck in nationals!!!!
Hey DyLighted, thanks for the wonderful video; I love how you tell a story. One thing I like about a lot of your other videos is that you pause to give the viewer time to make their own decisions, often with regard to settlement placements. I'd love to see more of that in your future videos, and maybe even include some other big decision points as well! EDIT: I realize maybe that is more of the focus of your second channel. I didn't realize you had one until now. You should advertise it more!
Great video! This was very informative, and the quality of the video was fantastic. You have a rare ability to teach in an effective manner. Keep it up Dylan.
You really should post more I have never played this game in my life but you make it seem so interesting and your brite and cheerful attitude about the thing you love is awesome keep up the great work u should have way more subscribers
What an amazing video! Grats on the W. The explanations were super interesting and all the editing, transitions and cute animations were top notch! Keep up the great work Dylan :)
Amazing return video, better than ever. I'm sure after more consistent uploads the views will pick up again, that's definitely what youtube favors. But if you keep making vids of this quality then i'm sure you'll blow up big time.
Very nice, I'm happy for you! I only play with friends and don't want to stress myself with tracking or thinking too many moves ahead, but I really appreciate your videos and learned a ton! I wish you lots of success and an extra bit of luck for nationals.
Amazing video man! Glad to see you back. My only complaint is if you can turn down the music a little. I'm half deaf and I couldn't understand some parts of the video :D
