      Banana iguanas are neat looking, I consider the Cayman Brac iguanas the best and smartest reptile in the world. Easy to care for and tame and train just like a dog. Never been a reptile to top the Cayman Brac rock iguana! Ani I cant believe why Clint keeps dissing greens, all my male and females are tamer then any in this video.

      We have around 14-ish green & rhinolophus iguanas in our rescue, and several came in as adult male wild caught ones. My albino is flighty as hell. My trans one-eyes baby is as sweet as pie, and we have many greens who are absolute dolls! I agree that iggies are horrible beginner pets tho lol.

      @@DaveDurham to be honest my mother had two while I was growing up and they really weren't that bad. They were extremely mellow and were allowed to roam the house freely every day when I was about 5 or 6 until they passed later on in years and I never got bit. I got whipped once but that was completely my fault.

      Learned helplessness? Iguanas have great vision so it’s a pretty significant impairment. Though that may lead to them being less on edge because they won’t be able to perceive many changes in their environment.

    • @10nycav
      @10nycav 3 роки тому +28

      I don't think it's learned helplessness. It's that their startle and flight responses are triggered by visual stimuli. No visual stimuli, no flight response. (Normally sighted iguanas can be as tame as the albinos, but you have to start handling them when they are very young, and some individuals will tame down a lot easier than others....as you saw with the pied pectinata babies, there is a huge variation in temperament.)

    • @hexxuss1
      @hexxuss1 3 роки тому +4

      We've had an albino since he was very little & he still freaks out when we get him out (he's a few years old). He calms down pretty quick though. He's so blind it's not funny - he'll face surf all over if we put him into a screened enclosure (trying to escape the light when it gets too hot). I have regular sighted ones who are sweeter & some who aren't too. *shrug*

    • @craigstephenson7676

    My babysitter when I was about 4-5 years old had a huge green Iguana that didn't have an enclosure, it just roamed free, and there was all sorts of fake vines and trees and a bunch of "jungle gym" netting hanging from the ceiling and he'd just chill up there all day with his basking lights. I don't remember it ever coming down except to eat. I've always thought they were so cool, but I've never desired to have one because I knew from a young age how large they could get...and was always warned to leave him be or he would likely whip me with his tail.

    I love iguanas a lot and owned one in highschool. I really wish your channel was around when had gotten her. They are great animals but i really had no idea what i was getting myself into. I was 15 and just went to petco and made my case to my dad to get one and he caved. I know it was irresponsible to make a decision like that without doing the proper research. I really wish petco and petsmart were better versed in their reptiles because basically when we asked any questions we found out a year later that everything they told us was either a lie or they just genuinely didn’t know. We had a lot of ups and downs trying to learn what she needed to thrive and because of our early ignorance she had developed metabolic bone disease. We hated ourselves for allowing that to happen but we were determined to ensure that she could live her best life even after our mistakes. We did eventually get everything right for her and she was just the best. Honestly it began my love for reptiles and led me to get my BCI boa down the line. Unfortunately my iguana has passed on now because of an issue with laying her clutch of eggs. It was a very sad day in our family because she was a member of the family. You don’t bottle feed a baby iguana when nursing it from MBD without developing a serious attachment with them. Because of that bond she’d only be fine with me going into her cage to retrieve her (I don’t know for sure that was the reason but i like to believe so). Anyways i love your videos and whenever my friends ask me questions about what to get for their first reptile pet i always always always send them links to your channel and tell them to do as much research as humanly possible when it comes to getting a reptile. Reptiles are amazing creatures and make great pets but people need to know what they are getting into because it’s not as simple as just getting a lizard or snake just to have it. I learned my lesson after Bree (that was my iguanas name) and I’m so happy your channel now exists so that we as reptile pet owners can become more informed and become better pet owners to these wonderful creatures. To be quite honest my next snake that I’m getting is going to be a Kenyan sand boa and i would never thought about getting one if i didn’t watch your video on them so thank you. I’ll be sure to name it Clint! (Also a fun side note with My old iguana is that for a year we believed it was a male and his name was Bro but when we found out it was female we had to adjust for a more fitting name which is how we got to Bree)

    • @alyssastickels1324
      @alyssastickels1324 2 роки тому +1

      I’m sorry that you lost your iguana. And I know it’s easier said than done, but try not to blame yourself too much. You did the best you could with the information and resources you had at the time. You also clearly cared for Bree, given that you made the necessary changes and put in the effort to get her as healthy as possible. I hope the people you’ve helped educate before they got their reptiles understand how valuable your passion for reptiles is. I hope you’re able to enjoy the presence of many other beautiful creatures our world has to offer.

    My cousin had a green iguana that was about 6 & 1/2 feet long, and he was really chill, but he'd been well socialized his whole life. We had to build an enclosure into a room of their house because of his size. Definitely would not recommend for most people, but he was an impressive beast. Absolute unit! 😁

    Green Iguanas still are my favorite :) just love them so much. There is so much you can do with the size of their enclosure, even turn it into their own little jungle. Though I am not going to lie, I do stick with the females since they are easier to handle and do not have as many negative behavioral traits as the males, especially during breeding season. I have a female axanthic blue who is 6 years old and is as friendly as could be.
    Thanks for the video!

    I just have to say, and I mean this in the best way, Clint you are the hybrid lovechild of; Newt Scamander, Mr. Rodgers, Steve Erwin, Jane Goodall, and Bob Ross... I don't know how *that* happened, though I bet it involved a story that started with "One day I was drinking..." and ended with "...and then I jumped into the portal.", but I am so glad that it did.
    I don't know if I will ever keep lizards (though Turtles are a real possibility) but I enjoy watching your videos regardless.
    Thank you for existing, and for you and the video crew and production team, making videos.

    In Mexico I rescued an adult spiny tailed iguana when I was in 4th grade. When my dad and I got it out from being starved and squished under a de-hinged door I grabbed it and was covered in scratches after being clawed and tail whipped. And I put it down and then it ran off on two legs.

    I feel bad for the albino green iguanas. I think it's pretty awful to breed an animal that you know is going to go blind.

    • @amandastakeonit7402
      @amandastakeonit7402 2 роки тому +1

      They are blind from the gate, they know know difference. You are not sending the out into the wild, which by the way wild animals are albino sometimes. I have snakes that have three pigmentations and three of my snakes are amelanistic (think albino) three do not have that trait. All of my snakes are sweet, but the three with amelanism are much calmer and have never shown fear (other than being the same species they are completely unrelated). My other three are sweet and used to being handled but will still "flinch" if you go into grab them (even from the side). My "albino" snakes can see some ( possibly because they have three pigment genes) and especially are aware of light. They will just stare at the source (I do not light my snake enclosures) and they do react sometimes to big movements when it's well lit. They just watch and move their heads, no fear. They live healthy full lives. They are happy to visit with people and snakes a like.
