Briggsta here - this gave us a ton of insight when rewatching this. There were a lot of things I could’ve done to play this better. This was a great teaching moment for my rl friend Dmabe about positioning as well. He’s only been playing the game for almost 2 months now and learned a lot from this single match. Good stuff.
This is literally the first positioning discussion I've seen for Wow arenas. Having put in some reps in Overwatch as a healer, I've seen what positioning can mean in a game. It would be nice to see a discussion of winning positioning for comps other than double caster vs melee healer too.
I'd love to see this kind of video with an actual bad pvp class. This was helpful but as a mage you actually have chances of doing things but what happens with others classes.
I used this info in my latest arena matches. You're the man. I couldn't figure out how to alleviate pressure when I'm getting trained, but this one vid made life so much easier.
Nice guide Xaryu. What about some insight to how the melee should play against double caster? I have been having this frustration in 2s and 3s. We LOS caster cds but I can never stick onto one caster without being peeled off and having to run behind a pillar again. What are you thoughts from the melee point of view?
Yo Xar can you make more rogue mage breakdowns please. I play rogue and just want to know what are the stray against different comps and what should be the main ways to play rogue mage. Thanks keep ballin
@@jorgefelipa2648 I think that's why the other guy is asking if he can make MORE of them :D (more implies there already exists atleast 1 yes I'm fun at parties)
Was it that clutch though? Xar most likely said "crap where's my candy" and both enemies were lined so the lock wasn't doing anything else anyway. a 200 cr lock would have dropped candy at that moment. Not saying the lock didn't do some great things but that's not really the highlight we should be making.
Frost dk, amz talent, delirium. Stun the lock, burst dps the mage. Easy done. Position wherever you want because it's not going to matter. This video is 1dps 1 healer vs 2 dps. Positioning is relevant depending on the specific class, arena, etc. Lots of variables. Good video in showing a very specific type of fight against a very specific type of class. I'm sure you know that but obviously some people here don't which is why they are asking you to do more videos using other classes. Not a bad idea.
I went from a 20% win rate to a 60% win rate. I did this by altering my talents to make sense for PvP. I really spent weeks using PvE trinket/talents for PvP. After 3 weeks, I finally bought PvP trinkets. One more week later I finally altered my talents while doing PvP. I feel stupid.
Hey Xaryu, just started learning pvp and loved the video however I play a melee. What are some of the things the DK couldve done to be in a better position in the game? I feel like playing pillar would be the go to answer but with double dps youre stacking dampening. Curious to see what you think they couldve done better to win the game
healer/melee positioning: healer behind pillar, melee rushes in 60 yards away from you and gets kited behind another pillar. You are forced to go in as well or else he dies. You are in the open, get CC'ed, your melee dies and flames you for lack of heals.
Hey Zar, thank you for the amazing video! The positioning is very important for sure, but could you please also make a guide for more basic movement? I mean, it's important for mage to step back sometimes, but backpedalling does not seem like a good option. Also moving and casting effectively could help to greatly improve results. Thanks!
I always get sapped tho...so how do you avoid the saps, stuns, and any other traps?? I use anything I have to get rid of the spell. I'm also trying to learn arenas....I'm great at bgs but these.....wahhhhh. New sub as well!!!
Great video Xar! You explained the impact of positioning very well and I think a lot of people who watched this video have taken something from it to improve their game-play.
The instructions given by Xar were pretty specific to range here. He would have to adapt how he talked about the fight if he wants to teach melee positioning at a high level.
@@Rave.- i mean his main takeaway is that positioning is something EVERYONE has to be mindful about; range, melee, and healer. in situations where you are melee, the biggest thing to do against caster cleaves and try to fight your opponent near a pillar. If I was the DK I would save burst windows for grip attempts and just hit and run until one of them make a mistake. Save burst for both AMS and a separate grip attempt. He could also kill warlock pets while he waits for a mount up. And can’t monks get a hand of freedom like spell?
Nice video Xaryu. But What would be your advice in case of I'm the Lock and playing with a healer. Do i leave my healer between me and my opponent? Take care and congrats for the great job. ^^
Killing mage in 2s when there is a warlock is probably the worst dessision. He could pop Lichborne, and make good burst on warlock, then easily def from ALL bursts with amz and ams and when dks has nothing warlock would be already dead. Dk was insanely bad but the video is still very useful!
do you make these videos with other classes ? would like a survival hunter vid :D your good at explaining, havent thought about this positioning stuff ever.. but how to position as melee ect.
Me and my buddy play a ton of double mage, we seem to do well defensively positioning but tend to really struggle against off heals with tons of mobility(especially druids) any advice on how to think about offensively positioning to slow the druids down?
You would still position back defensively, and as soon as the druid pushes in you the druid or the partner, and if he doesn't push in, you just drink back up to full
I play arcane mage and uh dk, sometimes this happens where the other guys just stand all day behind pillar and I dont want to wait and go in, should I just wait behind a pillar too and wait until the other team does something? In this case for example, the unholy dk could have just waited all day behind the pillar or what could he have done to win?
Hi Xar! Great content as always! I have one question. I like doing the mirror chess situation. What would you do if you were the other team (DK healer). How would they position themselves to avoid the way you outplayed them. What could have they done better?
Go for the closest pillar and pull the warlock, the monk should get the cc at the mage, try to force any cds from the lock then change to mage again, if it doesnt work just reset.
Great vid man, the only thing i would have maybe liked is an explanation on what the OTHER team could have done better. Could they have played more aggressive since they were a heal/dps comp? why or why not?
This is what I was looking for. So much useful information that I am going to put in good use. Can you tell me or maybe perhaps make a video on how to deal with healers? How to properly set a cc chain to kill them, or perhaps kill dps while healer is Cc'ed. I struggle a lot against healers.
